My 2005, 60GB iPod color won't sync at all! Please help!

I can't sync my iPod at all! I've looked everywhere for help and have found nothing. The only problem the iPod is having is this: When I click the 'Sync' button, nothing happens. There's no error message, nothing what-so-ever. iTunes reads the iPod and everything on it with no trouble. I even reset the iPod back to factory settings. I've never had this problems when I was using a PC and now, on a MAC, I can't sync!
Could it be my user settings? My boyfriend thought when he created my settings on this computer that if he made my account an Administrator account that it would void HIS administrator settings; like there can only be one Admin per computer (which is not the case), so maybe my limited settings are interfering with my iPod? I can't download much of anything without his Admin user name as pw.
Help!! Any one have any ideas about this?
Thanks!

Are all of your songs in your main iTunes Music library and playable in iTunes?
Check the Summary tab on the iPod in iTunes. Is it set to +Manually manage music+ (a checkbox)? If so, uncheck that setting and click the Apply button at the lower right. It should now be in sync mode, but if it still does not sync your songs, go to the iPod's Music tab (next to the Summary tab). Make sure the +Sync music+ checkbox is checked and the +All songs and playlists+ option is selected below. If you made a change, click the Apply button at the lower right.
I even reset the iPod back to factory settings.
Does that mean you used the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and initialize its software? If so, iTunes should have asked you if you want to sync you library to the iPod during the procedure.

My pc only recognises my iPad 2 as a camera won't sync in iTunes please help

I take it that it is through Wiindows Explorer you are able to track the iPad as an external device?
Disconnect your iPad and try a Reset - hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 15 seconds.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your PC.
Also, try a different USB port on your PC, a few times if necessary.

  • IPod won't sync to iTunes - Please help! Tried everything

My iPod won't sync to iTunes. I pug it into the computer, the computer recognizes the device. It automatically opens iTunes once it's plugged in. I was able to system restore via iTunes when the iPod was connected and it wiped the iPod. But when I hit sync it doesn't sync. When I hit the sync button for about 5 seconds the wheel will rotate on the iPod screen and say "syncing" but nothing happens on the iTunes side, (you know normally when your iPod is syncing at the top of the iTunes window it will say "syncing" and you can see the process happening as it quickly runs through the new music it is uploading, this doesn't happen.) I tried restarting the iPod and the computer, system reset, I checked in the control panel to make sure the apple device was started, (which it was,) and even bought a new sync cord to be sure. Nothing. Any ideas?

I was running into the same/similar problem. Is this a new computer but old ipod?  In other words, does your ipod contain music from a previous pc?  If so, that might be the problem.  I bought a new pc and adequately transferred my music from old pc to new pc.  My itunes library on new pc was where I wanted it to be.  But when I tried to sync my ipod later, it wouldn't sync.  Would stop at first step like yours was doing.
If this is the case with you, open your ipod information on itunes.  It will automatically be on "Summary".  Click on "Music".  You will see a box labeled "Sync Music".  Click on that box.  Then you have the option of checking "Entire Music Library" or "Selected playlists.....".  I chose entire library.  When you sync, it will warn you that you will be erasing contents of ipod and replacing with contents of this itunes library.  Like I said, my library was good.  So I chose ok.  It synced fine after that.

  • IPod Classic won't sync at all just say sync completed

When I plug in my iPod syncing starts, like normal, but then immediately stops and say that syncing is complete. The problem is is that I have 1657 songs plus a bunch of different videos and podcasts and only like 6 songs are transfered. All songs, videos, and podcasts are in the proper format.
    I have so far:
    reformatted the iPod
    Restored it many times
    tried to manually manage music
Also I have synced my music with a friends Comp(who has Vista) just to make sure the iPod works, it does.

  • Won't sync...Please Help!!

    Hey,
I am really starting to get a little nervous!!
My 80G 5th gen Ipod (that I have had no problems with for the past year & half),
is giving me a little trouble.
When I connect to I-tunes it,
it won't sync and I get the message,
"the disk cannot be read from or written to".
I have the latest updated version on my I-pod, (1.3, I think)
    but I haven't updated I-tunes for a while (I am running 7.4.2(4)),
cause I had been hearing about some problems with some of the I-tunes updates as of late.
I reset my I-pod several times,
but I really don't want to have to restore it.
I have a lot of movies & podcasts on it
that are no longer in my I-tunes library.
What else beside praying can I do to try and fix it?
Any & all help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thank you,
    Todd

    You have three choices:
1.Go to Apple or Firedog (in Circit City) and pay to retreive your data and restore your iPod
2.If the computer can read the iPod, get Aimersoft iPod Copy Manager and save your data to a folder then open Explorer or whatever you use in Mac to save other files
    3.Get a new iPod....
    I hope this helps! azureVinh.webs.com

  • Problem with iTunes since upgrade. Won't sync properly. Please Help!

Ever since I have updated iTunes to 7.1, when I try to add songs onto my iPod, I get a message reading: The iPod "Sheri's iPod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
My sister just bought the 8gig and out of 1600 songs, it accepted 2 songs. Please help!

Excuse the length of this but I felt detail was essential to hunting this down.
I must add my voice to this thread - seems one of several hundred that remains unanswered and I am fed up with dealing with this. If anyone has a thought I would welcome it. The search engine has no useful results to offer that I have been able to find.
Have a 20GB 4th Gen. iPod. Approximately 4100 songs - 18.2 GB in Library. Consistently after restoring with latest download as of this writing Apr.2 2007 experiencing again what I have been struggling with for weeks with this; As of today after a complete low level formatting of the hard drive - fresh reinstallation of Windows XP and all apps from scratch! 14 hrs of work dear apple folk, Having run a Complete virus check with Kaspersky IS 6.0 (trial), eTrust IS (Trial), and Norton IS 2007, Spy sweeper, Hitman Pro 2, Root kit revealer and a few others I am relatively convinced that there are no mal-spy wares on the system or iPod.
My iTunes library is on another physical drive. I have had no issues syncing from this drive when this did work.
Tried to reinstall the original iPod/iTunes software as per the disk shipped with the iPod # 2Z691-5715-A it failed at 99% to load due to an MSI error. - This confounded me.
Tried sync again using the most recent version of iTunes/QT and as previously posted by others without reply and experienced many times, repeat-many times over, have had the sync stall at no consistent point though roughly anywhere from 700 -1700 songs reportedly having been transferred only to stall. The iPod transfers only play lists no songs are transferred or listed though upon reboot and reattachment it shows data other than audio present but is obviously corrupted and the chkdsk message appears. Chkdsk finds no physical errors and I'm back to the restore loop. The iPod is restorable under Windows most of the time. Sometimes it is unable to do so. I have the luxury of a MacG4 Powerbook but my HD can't store those songs as it is for work use only but iTunes reformats it as a windows iPod or sometimes I have gone to restore it to Mac and then re-restore it to Windows format again on the PC. This I think eliminates the possibility that it is an issue with the USB connector or fire wire cables. I should be clear all sync is done via USB on the PC.
I have tried this on both the separate USB card installed on the system as well as through the USB ports available on the motherboard. Problem remains consistent.
I have experienced occasionally but for the most part infrequently, a report from my Konica/Minolta 2400W Colour Laser printer monitor - connected by USB on the Motherboard USB port, a sudden loss of communication with the printer preceding the iTunes sync stall. I have yet to try with the printer turned off and the monitor software removed but will report results in a further post - though this has never been a problem in the past.
Stall means that iTunes shows the sync in progress but no advancement from the song it is stuck on for hours. Task manager reports that the CPU is engaged at nearly fully utilization varying from 88 -99% of available resources. From iTunes an attempt to eject the iPod stalls with the eject button in pushed down state and hangs - the only way to proceed is to physically disconnect the iPod and close iTunes from the task manager. I have tried reducing the priority level of iTunes and the iPodhelper to see if I could buy time to eject the iPod without corruption but to no avail. Consistently, iPodhelper service and itunes.exe remains open even though the window closes. Of note those services remain running despite efforts to shut them down through task manager. This lead me initially to believe that the software was hijacked by a virus root kit or other malware but I have been unable to find any evidence to support that notion.
Further - i tried after restoring the iPod for the umpteenth time to try another software Media monkey. It too experienced the same bloody problem stalling out through the sync at 300 songs or so and same result with task manager unable to close process despite window being closed.
    My conclusions:
    Problem exists with iTunes software or some yet undeterminable windows process;
    a) USB communications seems fine as am able to restore iPod through connector. Windows XP Pro detects iPod as a drive in explorer.
    b) Song Database is fine and iTunes will play everything on hard drive(s) and in library.
    c) iPod is okay - able to sync and list a few sample songs off MAcG4 Powerbook when formatted Mac or PC.
    d) The R's all work - iPod reports no diagnostic issues
    e) No viral, spy ware, root kit or malware detected after comprehensive scanning.
So what next???? I am completely at a loss... and missing my music..

  • IPod won't sync after restore - Please Help!!!

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my posting.
I have a 3rd Gen 40gb iPod which was running the 2.2 firmware on Windows XP, which has been fine up until recently. The songs started to randomly skip during playback; this went on for a few weeks. So I decided to restore/reformat the iPod using the iPod updater software and this is where the problem started.
I downloaded the most up to date updater from Apple and updated the firmware to version 2.3. However when I came to sync my iPod with iTunes (ver 6) it would start transferring tracks and get about 5 or 6 on there and then it would hang and not transfer anymore and my iPod would just say Do not disconnect. This happened about 3 or 4 times. I decided to restore the firmware on my iPod to 2.2 using an older updater and now iTunes won’t see / sync my iPod at all…
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or what I should do to sort the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Windows PC   Windows XP

I would suggest that you go to firmware version 2.3 again (as opposed to 2.2), as this may be why iTunes isn't recognizing it now.
But, I understand that after you restored your iPod (with the 2.3 version), iTunes would bog up after updating only a few songs.
I think it's probably better to have 2.3 instead of 2.2. Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter when you connect it.
Log off of any other users on your computer.
Then, connect your iPod. When you connect your iPod, press and hold the "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys for about 20-30 seconds. This will prevent automatic-syncing from happening in iTunes.
After you've stopped automatic-update setting, assign your iPod a different drive letter (see below):
1 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
2 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
3 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If you need any additional help on how to follow these steps, post back with the details of your issue, and I'd be glad to try to help.

  • Ipod touch won't sync....help!

my ipod touch is recognized by itunes but it wont start a sync, let alone go through a whole sync

Fixed it! I have no idea what I tried but all I can say, if anyone else has this problem is to uninstall everything and I mean EVERYTHING related to apple from the control panel (Windows 7) but then,  unhide hidden folders and go into the appdata folder under users and delete everything in the 3 folders related to apple. Finally do a quick search (Start, search box) of anything like ipod, itunes, quicktime etc and delete those. Then reinstall itunes (and quicktime with it) and reimport songs. That should work cause it did for me! Also, make sure you delete the preferences and configs etc.

  • My video iPod won't sync my videos , please help

okay, well i have a video iPod , and i downloaded videos before , and they copied on to my iPod, but now , i got a new computer , so i had to re-install iTunes and i tried to download a video podcast , and the audio ones copied , but the video ones didn't . it kept saying, "cannot copy because iPod not compatible" or something .
      Windows XP

Does the iPod software version now appear as 1.2?
If so, I'm thinking there's a problem with the file itself. Since it's from the iTunes Store, there's no reason it can't be played on the iPod.
First off, if you've created a backup of your iTunes store purchases, restore a new copy of these files from your backup.
If not, you could try burning them onto a data CD and then ripping a new copy. This may fix the file issue.
If not, you can always e-mail the iTunes Store support team, and ask if they can let you redownload a new copy of the files. Make sure you give them the e-mail address that you used to purchase the songs with, so that they can access an accurate record of your purchase history.

Just click on the link that's closest to the issue you're describing. It will take you to a new page. Scroll down to the bottom of this new page, and you'll see a form to fill out and submit to them. They'll usually get back to you within 2-3 business days.

  • Ipod classic won't work at all. Help!

Today, my ipod has stopped working even after being able to use it earlier today. It will turn on only when connected to the wall charger (that is plugged in to an outlet) and won't connect to my mac. It flashes the apple symbol start up screen. I can only reset it when it's plugged into the charger and I can put it mannually into disk mode at that time too, but otherwise it won't work. Any help?

Ok, I ran into this same issue of a brand new iPod Classic resetting itself continuously about once every 30 seconds, and you could hear the hard clicking sound, with each reset cycle. I had to do the following to get it to work ok.
10 Simple Steps To Fix Your iPod That Is Stuck In A Continuous Reset Loop:
    1) While the iPod was resetting itself over and over (continuously resetting itself), press the Play/Pause button and the center select button simultaneously, for about 5 seconds, and it will display that it is now in disk mode.
    2) Start up iTunes on your computer and then connect the iPod to your computer with the USB cable.
    3) Click on the iPod in the left pane, select "Restore" to restore it to its original blank state. Follow the prompts to continue.
    4) When the computer completes the Restore update, and it displays a message saying that the iPod will disappear and reappear in iTunes in a minute, immediately disconnect the iPod (unplug it from your USB cable).
    5) On the iPod, you should see the main menu, in a few seconds. Pick a couple of settings to update for example the English language, and Eastern Time Zone (New York or Washington, DC), etc.
    6) Press and hold the Play/Pause button to power the iPod off.
    7) Re-connect the iPod to your comptuer with the USB cable.
    8) Start syncing using iTunes, as normal.
    9) All should be well.
    10) Remember to always click on Eject in iTunes, and waiting for visual confirmation, before disconnecting the iPod.
    The End. Whew!

  • ITunes movie download won't sync to iTouch - please help!

I'm sure this question has popped up before. My apologies to those who are irritated by seeing it again.
I downlaoded a couple of movies from iTunes. I can see them in my Movies library. However, when I sync my iPod Touch they don't transfer so I can watch them. I would never have bought (not rented) them if I can only view them on my laptop. The Apple site goes to great lengths to say it is so simple, download a movie, music or more and simply sync your iPod! Sorry, but that just isn't happening here. What do I need to do to get an iTunes movie to play on my iPod Touch! Help!!!

I have to be honest, I simply downloaded two flicks from iTunes and they are older - not likely HD. The first, National Lampoon's Van Wilder is the one I tried to sync several times. The second, Waiting, won't work either. I can play both on the laptop but not the iTouch.
I have spent hours looking for answers to this problem. iTunes sells movies to us and promises that they will work on our iPods. Why not simply sell them in a format that allows that? Apple people...answers???
I located a YouTube video that shows a third party software program that supposedly transfers movie files to iTouch compatible files. The sample showed a file being done but it did not come from iTunes. When I tried to do this, iTunes movies are not shown as files that can be accessed by the program. This is ridiculous.
