  • MacBook pro not charging. Charging light is not coming up

My Macbook pro's battery was down to 2% so I shut it down and kept in for charging. But the charger's green light or the orange light indicating charging didn't come. I checked the power supply and it was fine. The charger has the slight hum indicating it is getting the power but macbook is not charging and the lights are not coming on. My Macbook is a late 2011 model of 13"

  • Macbook is not charging , plugged in, no light

My school provided 2.4GHz macbook is not charging but the charger is plugged in correctly, I get no light no orange no green absoloutely nothing happens. I tried using a different charger but that again would not work so I'm assuming its a problem with the macbook its self. THe thing is, is that this macbook is merely 1 year old (it's less than 7 - 8 months! ) and yet it already failed me, extremely disappointed, apple. My school wants to charge me $210 just to replace the whole components at the bottom or w/e ...they didnt even check to see if it could be a broken battery inside or something so I tried to do that but stopped since I found ot that the bottom part of it was all covered in the white plastic - i think the term is unibody. What is wrong with it? On another note, I checked the power cycle count with what little battery I had and it was around 2500 - 3000 and I barely had it for a year! Why is it like this? It was also a refurbished macbook I believe...any help would be appreciated, what can I do ? thanks!

If the MacBook is less than a year old it is still covered by Apple's warranty. Contact Apple using expresslane.apple.com if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider.
It sounds, however, like it may have been refurbished by someone else, and thus not falling under Apple's warranty. Check with your school to see what the coverage is.
You can also check the MacBook's warranty status with Apple here. You'll need your serial number.
    Best of luck.

  • HT3964 MacBook will not charge

My MacBook will not charge when plugged in. I know the cord works, I plugged it into my brothers and it worked fine. I've tried the smc reset. I don't know what else to do. I also borrowed my brothers cord and it won't work either.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Probably the battery or your logic board are damaged. Open System Information or System Profiler (in /Applications/Utilities), choose Power in the sidebar and copy here "Charge Information" and "Health Information". It's possible that you have to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller

  • MacBook Pro not charging after OSX Lion 10.7.2 upgrade

After making the upgrade to OSx Lion 10.7.2 my MacBook Pro 2011 (2 months old) does not charge anymore, before worked perfectly.
Magsafe led was off, and battery indicator said power source is not connected. After the battery drained to empty, the magsafe turned on, but goes green to orange to off in cycles. During the cycles, the battery indicator was cycling also from calculating, not charging, etc. and the display was dimming like if I was plugin in and plugin off the magsafe connector. After having the computer connected during all night, now is charged but magsafe does not charge anymore.
I tried the SMC reset and chacked that firmware is up to date. Any clues of what is going on?

Thanks a lot for replying, but what exactly does the istat widget program do?
Also, the fan noise seems like a normal noise every time I launch a program, but it's getting to the point where I am frustrated(annoyed) of the fan noise. I would've thought that upgrading to a Mac book would cause less fan noise because of it's high processor. Sometimes I feel like I should go back to a Dell or HP because of this problem, but at the same time, I love my laptop. ;)

  • Macbook Pro not charging; do I need a new Magsafe Charger?

I have an early 2011 13-inch Macbook pro. Recently, I've noticed that my magsafe charger does not charge my laptop. The light turns on (dull green, not bright like it normally is) and the power source is switched to the power adapter, but the adapter does not charge the laptop (see photo). I have tried the following troubleshooting steps to no avail:
    1) I cleaned the magsafe port, there was no debris t begin with
    2) I reset the SMC
    3) I tried different outlets
When I used my roommate's charger (from a much older macbook with the T-shaped connector) , the laptop was able to share up just fine. So my questions is whether I need a new charger or whether I can fix mine somehow?
    Thanks

Did you also check the magsafe connector of the charger? Possibly one of the pins is stuck. See point 7 on this page: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters - Apple Support

  • Issue with MacBook Pro (Not Charging)

I'm not extremely computer savvy with Macs, so bear with me when you give instructions.
I've had this 15'' MacBook Pro since 2010 for when I entered college. I've been using it since this year. Up until the last week my charger has been not charging very well. The ports are clean and well managed, no prongs or pieces have been worn away; physically the notebook and charger have been kept well since I received it.
This problem started copping up last week. When I attach it to the MacBook Pro the LED light does not come on and the info spot on the top tells me (Not Charging) and even after receiving the low battery warning and plugged in it still tells me that there is no charge and will drain itself despite being plugged in.
Now if I power down the notebook it charges as usual. No issues.
As far as I remember this was NEVER an issue. For the past two years I remember sitting on my dorm bed many a time and when the warning came up I would go get the charger and plug it in and let it charge as I continued to work. It would charge and have no problems with the notebook being run at the same time as the charging.
As I type it is plugged in and seems to have a delay in deciding to charge. I received the warning and plugged it in, it took about 10 minutes until it started deciding to charge with a orange light.
This computer has a healthy charging basis; I oftern drain it completely and let it recharge fully without any interuptions while it is off.
Now it seems as if running it and charging it simultaneously has become a problem often. Why is this?
    Thanks.

You may need a new battery. Draining the battery all the way to zero is not good for the battery. It will shorten its life span.
Take it to an Apple Genius Bar and have it checked out.

  • 2 week old MacBook Pro not charging

I bought a MacBook Pro only 2 weeks ago, and to my surprise, I am already having problems with it. Although the top tool bar shows the battery as charging, and it doesnt lose power while the power cord is connected, it is not charging. The battery power is stuck at 27%, unless I unplug the cord, which obviously causes the power to drain.
Why wont my brand new MacBook Pro charge?

    > Why wont my brand new MacBook Pro charge?
Reset the PMU (power management unit) and re-calibrate the Battery ?
If this fails to make any difference call Apple.

  • Macbook Pro "not charging" during high CPU use

My Macbook Pro Does not charge when I am running several small programs (or one large one). My charger will change from the orange "charging" light to the green "not charging" light a few seconds after I begin running a program or set of programs that have a combined use of over 30% User CPU. Once I close enough programs to drop below about 30% User CPU, the light switches back to orange and begins to charge again.

How's the light on your power cord, on the receiving (your Mac) side? If it shows green, don't sweat, it means it is charging alright, no matter what the battery meter in Windows says: battery management is largely firmware-run on a MacBook Pro, since it's not exactly supposed to run another OS than Mac OS X. If the light shows yellow/orange, then for the sake of experiment, let it run until your battery dies. If it does at all.

  • MacBook Pro not charging iPod Touch 4G!

Hello. Today I plugged in my iPod Touch 4th Generation into my 2011 MacBook Pro 13" and it started charging, but about 15 seconds later it would stop charging it and I would have to unplug it and then plug it to charge it again. I grew suspicious that something was wrong with my iPod and not my Mac, but when I plugged my iPod into an outlet, it charged all the way with no problems. Is something in my MacBook denying the charging of my iPod Touch 4G and how do I fix it??
I also don't want this to effect syncing issues as well, and converting music to iTunes from my iPod.

Did you tried rebooting the Mac?
    Tried another USB port?
    Did it work OK before?
When the Mac sleeps the USB ports will not charge the iPod.

  • MacBook Pro "Not Charging"

Please help me out with this one...
I have a MacBook Pro 15" that I purchased just over a year ago. This last week I noticed that the battery icon (top/right of screen) read "Not Charging". The indicator light on the charger is a faint green. I purchased a new battery, new charger, and made sure I had the latest battery upgrade. Still no charging. What gives. Anyone else experience this? Any fixes?
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks.

i would take it in to the apple store and let them look at it...

  • Macbook Pro not charging... help please!

I have a refurbished 2011 macbook pro i bought about 5 months ago. The problem is that one day I went to plug in my external firewire hard drive and my laptop (which wasn't pluged in at the time) inexplicably shut off. I can only get it to turn on if the power cord is plugged in, but the battery doesn't charge, i just get the "(Not Charging)" status on my battery. As soon as I unplug the power the laptop shuts off never to turn on again until I plug it back in. I have no idea what to do about it. I'm a college student so I kind of need a computer that I can take with me, and right now my macbook might as well be a desktop.

You need to take it to an Apple Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Repair Center and have it fixed. You have a 1 year warranty that covers such problems. There is nothing the user can do to fix this. Sounds like the battery has gone bad. Which is NOT user replaceable.

  • Macbook pro not charging, not starting up after 1 month being off

    Hi dear friends.
My macbook Pro 13 (2011) was off for 1 month and the power was unplugged.
Now while turning on, it is not charging and not starting up, the screen is white and just apple logo is seen.
It would be pleased if anybody could help or advise.
    Thanks a lot.

Are you usre it was "Off" and not in Sleep mode?
If it was in Sleep mode then the battery got completely drained. So as suggested above. Otherwise you will need to take it to an Apple store Genius Bar to be checked out and fixed, whatever that takes.

  • Macbook pro not charging: logic board, battery or magsafe?

My macbook pro (13" late 2011) has been charging fine until today. When i plug in the magsafe power adapter (i did clean it and the port) it only lights up dimly and green. The battery also says "Not Charging" and the computer entirely feeds on the power adapter. I've tried SMC and PRAM reset, and changing the duckhead adapter to the ones included when you buy the macbook but neither worked. I did the Apple Hardware Test and it said everything is normal. I tried charging it at 10% but it wasn't charging so i disconnected it and waited for the warning on 3% but it still didn't charge and the battery % isn't going down or up either when plugged. I also had the fan replaced a month ago but only got it back a few days ago.

  • Macbook will not charge port problem

Hello, My MACBOOK 2010 will not charge. I replaced the battery about 9 months ago but I received a "SERVICE BATTERY " warning. Most definitely. Malfunctioning electrical devices can be very dangerous. On the off-chance, you may wish to stop by an Apple Store and see if they are feeling generous.
