My 2007 intel imac ejects discs within 2 seconds

My 2007 intel imac ejects discs within 2 seconds.  The last time I used my disc hardware was to install software for a new Cannon all in one.  It worked perfectly.  I have tried many discs including one movie made on this same machine.  Pleease help me troubleshoot before I have to transport my computer to the Apple store.   Thank you in advance.

It could be that the laser has dust on it; a laser cleaning disk is available at stores which specialize in audio and video- BestBuy, or OfficeDepot would be a place to start. Run a cleaning session to see how that plays out. It could be the optical drive itself. The best approach is first to try steps that do not involve transporting your iMac as you indicate.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The hard drive is not formatted, and it must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to install OS X.
Close the OS X installer, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility. Then, format your hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as Format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X

  • 2007 Intel iMac with sleep/wake issues

    Subject: 2007 Intel iMac, 2GHz, 4GB RAM, 10.5.6
I'm having difficulty troubleshooting this one and would greatly appreciate any advice/help. Basically this iMac will develop all kinds of problems over night. It will be put to sleep in the evening and in the morning it will be off or it won't wake from sleep. I don't think it's a power issue, as other computers aren't affected.
If you manually turn it off and then on again, it won't recognize the startup volume. Usually at this point nothing will work except Diskwarrior will find and repair some errors and it will work again for the rest of the day, but come morning, the problems return.
I've replaced the memory, changed all peripherals, completely rebuilt the OS (clean install), even replaced the battery backup unit. I've reset the PRAM and the SMC, ran surface scans on the hard drive, as well as all available tests in Tech Tool and Rember. Nothing found. SMART status is clear.
It seems to only happen over night. If I put it to sleep mid-day, it'll wake just fine, although perhaps there's a difference between that short sleep and its nightly slumber which is the key??
I don't think there's a software issue because the person who uses it basically only uses Mail, Safari, Firefox, and occasionally iWork apps. I'll put the latest crash report in a follow-up post, but I don't quite understand its contents and I'm hoping it will provide a clue which someone can help me with.
Thanks for reading this far - I look forward to any responses!
    Rey

Here's the latest crash report. It seems to have originated after sunday night's crash, which is why it shows 10.5.4, which was installed by combo update yesterday. Last night's crash doesn't seem to have a report...

  • Intel iMac install disc versions

I have a big favor to ask of all you forum members. I have install media from different intel iMacs that I need to distinguish from one another. As far as I know, the discs from a 17" iMac with integrated graphics will not work on a 17" iMac with Radeon X1600 graphics, nor will they work across the Core Duo to Core 2 Duo bump. I'm looking for the AHT and any other distinguishing information from these discs so I know which iMac they belong to. Here's what I know so far:
17" Core Duo w/ integrated graphics:
    • AHT version 3A108, Disc version 1.0, MacOS 10.4.7
    17" & 20" Core Duo w/ Radeon X1600 graphics
    • AHT version 3A100, Disc version 1.1, MacOS 10.4.4
All other models I do not know. Can those of you with other models post your install disc versions? I'm looking for all the intel iMac version from when they were released (though I believe I have the first generation above) through the iMacs available right now, as we have all kinds on our campus. Please include the disc 2 version (the 2Z691-xxxx-x number) as well.
Thank you to everyone who can contribute!
    17" Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    17" Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    17" Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Unfortunately I can't give any detailed information since I only have the original iMac CD (disk version 1.0) but until others chime in, here's some information that might be helpful.
AFAIK, it should be possible for the latest version of the OS/Install to work across all iMacs but not the reverse (my original DVD will not boot one that requires a more recent version of the OS or the newer C2D architecture). That being said, each install media set should have the OS version appearing on the disc. You may be able to deduce (or narrow it down) by comparing the OS version and the time the specific iMac model was released. The more recent the Mac revision, the more recent the OS (or at least that is usually the case).
    10.4.4 January 10,2006
    10.4.5 February 14, 2006
    10.4.6 April 3, 2006
    10.4.7 June 27, 2006
    10.4.8 September 29, 2006
    10.4.9 March 13, 2007
The Core Duo iMac debuted in January 2006 and should have (initially) come with 10.4.4.
The Core 2 Duos debuts (I believe) in September of 2006 and likely shipped with 10.4.7 (or 10.4.8 although the first one is more likely).
Not much help, I know, but it's a start.

  • Intel Imac install disc

Hi, can i use my Leopard disc that use to install on my PPC for my Intel Imac? Because I put it in but it's not booting into it yet, its been about 15min..

If you have a retail Leopard installer then it will work on either PPC or Intel Macs, but installing on more than one computer at a time violates the software license agreement and is, therefore, illegal.
If you are trying to use a gray-labeled disc that came with a new computer then it will only work on the computer with which it came. The software license issue is still valid.

  • 2010 iMac Ejects Discs After About 10-15 Seconds. Help??

Hi guys, I just tried to put a DVD into my iMac and it ejects it after about 15 seconds. I tried another DVD and it does the same! Any suggestions? I bought the Mac December 2010 so I no longer have Apple Care. Please say it doesn't need a new drive!

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC; then, try again.

  • Which version of Aperture would be recommended for a 2007 Intel iMac?

Just wondering what version of Aperture is going to be best to use on this system, I may be able to pick up an old version 2nd-hand (dated 2007, which matches the date of the iMac) which I assume is possibly Aperture version 1.
The iMac is a 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM, work will just be light  with compact camera digital photos and the occasional scanned document or photo, mainly to fill in the gaps where iPhoto has had some of the finer controls removed.
Will Aperture work along-side iPhoto?  So, in iPhoto (the one that comes with Tiger, '08 I believe), will there be a menu option to 'Send to Aperture', or does Aperture make it's own library and basically replace iPhoto?

Normally I would agree, but this iMac is running Tiger 10.4.11, I believe Aperture 3 requires Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
The reason the iMac is on Tiger is that there was some problem with a couple of applications immediately crashing when they were run, they did not do this until just the other day and then they would always do it, I couldn't find a logical explanation for this and after a few attempts at re-installing bits and bobs I decided to back up and try a clean install of Snow Leopard, this went on OK but none of the Combo updates would install, they all failed as soon as the install started; this could have been due to a bad install from disc but no other discs showed any problems and I have used those discs before without any problems (plus there was no indication of a bad install).  I decided to take Snow Leopard off the machine and go back to it's original Mac OS install DVDs (Tiger).  It is fully updated as far as Tiger and the rest of the software on there goes, it is perfectly usable.
This iMac is always going to be slow compared to an i5 model, I just do not want to bog it down too much with modern features and processor expectations.  Also, while it is running cleanly I am hesitent to put Snow Leopard back on it in case it runs in to the same problems again.
Oh, and I ran repair permissions and disk verify several times (including when booted from the install discs) before resorting to re-installing Mac OS.
The upshot is that I need Aperture that will run on Tiger, which is probably v1 but I don't know about v2 etc.  I am mainly interested to know whether or not v1 is a turkey and one to avoid.

  • What do the intel imac restore disc/ilife 06 come in?

are these discs just in little white sleeves or is there packaging for them like a box? Thanks.

Yes, the two dvds should be in a single white sleeve, but in my iMac carton they're in the 10.5" long x 5" wide "Designed by Apple in California" white box along with the manuals, mighty mouse, and remote. That box sits recessed into the big styrofoam tray (along with the keyboard) that takes up the upper space of the box above the iMac.

  • Late 2007 Intel iMac getting stuck at boot...sometimes.

I'll go into as much detail here as I can, but feel free to ask questions. This is:
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
I rarely shut this computer off, and for the most part it runs fine, but when I do shut it down or Restart, whether it boots again or not is a gamble. I have backups, so I'm not concerned about losing data, just concerned by the instability. There's no boot camp or strange partitioning. Just a single partition "Macintosh HD" that the system boots from.
Here are the tests I've run:
    1) Built in hardware test. I've had it hang while "probing hardware",
but once I run the extended tests, it always passes.
    2) Disk Utility. I've verified the disk and repaired it, occasionally
I get an error, but it's always been fixable, and the last test I ran
said the HD seemed to be okay. I've also repaired the permissions several
times. There are a couple of "Warning: SUID file 'bleh' has been modified and
    will not be repaired." warnings.
    3) Reset the SMC controller, by disconnecting all the cables including power
and letting it sit for 30 minutes -- several times.
    4) Done the Command-Option-P-R reset several times.
    5) S.M.A.R.T. indicates nothing wrong with the drive.
When things go bad, there are several ways it happens.
    1) Sometimes I get the grey screen, no apple or wheel. Just sits at the grey
    screen forever.
    2) After a couple of reboots, I'll usually get to the apple logo and wheel, but it
    stays there forever.
    3) After 10 or 20 reboots, I can usually get it to go all the way through
    and start up.
Sometimes when I can get it to boot from the Install DVD, the physical harddrive is listed in the Disk Utility but not the "Macintosh HD" partition, so I can't check or repair it.
I have thought that this might be heat related, maybe it works better as it heats up, but this doesn't explain the inability to just restart it when it's been running for a week.
What does this sound like to you? I have to admit that I'm stumped, and since I don't really have a good grasp on what's going on at each stage of the boot sequence, I can't narrow it down to one thing or another. I guess worst case I'll take it in to the "Geniuses" at the Apple Store, but I'd like to understand exactly what's going on here.
    Any help would be....helpful.

I've had totally mixed luck with hard drives in the past. I had a drive fail on me after 1 month and another last for the last 10 years. I'm not upset, assuming it doesn't happen again in 2 years.
Personally, I think the heat inside the iMac makes it a little harder on the drive, which might accelerate it's life. Once it started to go I installed "iMac Fan Control" (just google it) to keep the heat down. No idea if it milked a little more life out of it or not, but I think I'll keep running it.

  • My 2007 Intel iMac is waking from sleep on its own during the early morning hours. Not sure why. Is there a way to find out by looking at some sort of log files or something else?

I'm wondering if someone else is having control of my iMac as it randomly wakes up from sleep while I am sleeping sometime during the night. I've woken up with the light from the monitor brightening my room. Need to find out what is causing it to wake up and stay on. Any suggestions?

I've had this same issue lately. Here's one thing to check: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Wake for Network Access should be unchecked.
Mine is unchecked, so the only other thing I can think of is that it might be Time Machine backing up. My iMac is backing up to an external hard drive, and also sharing that drive over the network so two other Macs can back up as well.
Should be an easy theory to test. Turn off AirPort, unplug Ethernet, and let the iMac sit. See if it still happens.

  • The "about:config" move to restore the seach bar didn't work. I'm running OSX 10.9.5 on AOL/Firefox 37.0.1 on a mid 2007 intel iMac

I changed the "browser.search.show.OneOffButtons" boolean to "False" and restarted Firefox. When it didn't restore the search bar I went back and made sure it was entered as "False" and restarted again - no go.
I don't know where to go to search - Am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks

Maybe this isn't supported or otherwise overridden by the Firefox version that you use.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application from the Mozilla server and save the disk image file to the desktop
    *Firefox 37.0.1: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded

You cannot Sell it with Mavericks Installed... You will need to Restore the Computer to Factory Settings and Install the OS X that it Originally Shipped with.

  • Changed out the hard drive in my imac mid 2007 intel.  Once the disc loads, I get "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." Help! Be gentle. I am truly a novice.  Thanks in advance.

I changed the hard drive in my mid 2007 Intel Imac.  I'm trying to re-install the the op system. I'm receiving a message stating that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." I am a "newbe" to Mac's.  Can someone help? Please be gentle.  I raeally am a novice. Thanks in advance

I believe these are the wrong system restore discs for your model iMac, assuming your are correct that you have mid 2007 iMac.
These gray colored type restore discs are Mac-machine specific and are the wrong ones for your iMac.
    They will not work.
The original OS X restore discs for your model iMac would either install OS X 10.4.11 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard.
You have gray system restore discs for a later model iMac. These will not work with iMac year and model.
    Sorry.
You need to purchase a full retail version of OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard here instead.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
These discs will work with your year and model iMac.
Assuming that your hard drive was installed properly, these white retail OS X install discs should be able to boot, format and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to your 2007 iMac.
    Good Luck!

  • HT6001 updated iTunes on intel iMac and now it won't open at all

I'm using a 2007 intel imac 20" (2ghz intel core 2 duo) and itunes just updated automatically (to 11.1.4). Now it will not open, I just get an error message "iTunes quit unexpectedly" before it even opens. There seems to be no way to uninstall itunes on OS X 10.9.1. I have restarted to no avail. Any ideas? (no, time machine is not setup)
    Thanks!

please, any help at all? I'm about to throw this imac out a window and never by another apple product again.
