My 2011 MacBook Pro seems to be running a lot slower.

My 2011 MacBook Pro seems to be running a lot slower then when i first bought it with OS X Lion and now it is running OS X Mountain Lion? So I had the express lane call me to try to go back to OS X Lion to see of that was the problem but the guy said apple "doesn't support going back to previos OS systems".If anyone can tell me how to maybe clean out my mac (was a windows user before) or maybe how to go back to OS X Lion from Mountain Lion. Also I have never used timemachine before so I cant use that to go back to OS X Lion.

The fan seems to be running alot as well and the MBP isn,t that old only 6-7 months at the outside , could it be anything else possibly or do you definately think it is the Crashing issue

  • Late 2011 macbook pro getting hot and running slow, any ideas?

In the last week my macbook pro has been getting very hot (too hot to rest on knees) and sometimes running slow.  It will often cool down after a while but the fan seems to be running more frequently as well.  Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

  • My MacBook Pro seem to be running slower since the last lion update, anybody else?

Since the update of the Lion software my Macbook Pro is running rather slow and the pinwheel appears quite often, anyone else having this issue.  Any suggestions for solution?

This is from an a brody recent post:
Backup your data if you want to isolate all the possible reasons.
    Depending on what is slow:
    1. The hard drive may be close to capacity.  85% is the maximum most Macs can run at without exceeding it.
    2. It may have insufficient RAM.
    3. It may have a damaged directory.
    4. Your use of so-called maintenance tools may actually be corrupting system caches.  Onyx, and Macaroni are all tools that should only be
used by experts who know when they should be used if at all.  MacKeeper shouldn't be used at all.
    5. You have a dying hard drive.
    6. You have a router not compatible with your operating system.
    7. You have a peripheral not compatible with your operating system.
    8. You have a firewall that isn't routing internet traffic properly.
    9. You have some incompatible software.
So tell us when you are backed up, and what is slowing down, and maybe we can help you isolate the problem."

  • Macbook pro retina 15 inch running Yosemite extremely slow previews/rendering

    Hello,
So I got the newest version of Macbook pro retina 15 inch (mid-2014) basic model with 16GB of RAM, updated the OS to Yosemite, got Adobe CC on board, was happy for a second until I tried to edit stuff in After Effects. Preview plays at 13 fps at best when rendering something basic as a shape going from one point to the other. If you add footage it is 7fps or something. Already tried some options that were suggested on other threads like disabling App Nap but so far nothing helped. Please help me out, I'm really getting frustrated because of this.
Also, it takes ages to render final comp form Premiere Pro as well.

  • I just bought a 2011 MacBook Pro 15" and its running slow

I keep seeing the beach ball and safari is sluggish. When I have music playing in iTunes it sometimes skips. My laptop came pre-installed with Lion. Does anyone know a fix or something I can do to at least make it run a bit faster till 10.7.2 comes out?

No, those are normal. In activity monitor click on System Memory. What is the value in front of Page Outs and Page Ins?

  • Upgrade problematic SMC firmware 1.7 on 2011 MacBook Pro before OS X upgrade?

I'll soon be installing OS X Mountain Lion on a 15" early-2011 MacBook Pro (8,2) currently running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.8). Should I upgrade its SMC firmware to the problematic v1.7 (which had number of battery-related or system-power problems reported about it in early 2013, if not since then) before the OS upgrade? (This firmware update was put out to users to "address a rare issue on some Apple notebooks where a battery that has accumulated more than 1000 charge cycles may unexpectedly shut down or stop functioning”; my Mac's battery has gone through just 352 cycles.)
Apple's EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs table says my Mac should have 1.69f4 (SMC 1.7), but that table as recently as mid-April this year listed instead 1.69f3 (SMC 1.5) as what my Mac should have (and that's the version it does have); and the current download page for that firmware, MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7 (though dated Dec 12, 2012) says it requires OS X 10.7.5 or 10.8.2 - Lion or Mountain Lion.
I seem to remember that SMC firmware version disappearing from my Mac's Software Update listings, some while after I'd kept putting off choosing to install it because of the problems I'd read about it (including at least one reporting nightmarish troubles on same machine as mine) and because it didn't seem critical at my stage of battery life. Given the apparent ambiguity about which SMC firmware my Mac should or can have, and ensuing unwanted troubles after installation reported by at least a few folks, can I confidently install Mountain Lion without that SMC version, and then try to install it afterward?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Unable to install Yosemite on my 2011 Macbook Pro (4gb Ram, 2.4 Ghz intel core 2 duo) machine.

    Hello People,
I have been trying to download and install the new Mac Os Yosemite on my 2011 macbook pro which was previously running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. But, for some reason I am not able to install the file even when the download has been completed. This is the message i see every time i try to do a 'retry'. Can anybody please tell me whats going on with the installation process. and how can I fix this problem.

    Your model uses:
    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
So the specifications you provided will not work in your computer. Nor will your computer support 16 GBs.
A MBP 7,1 is a Mid-2010 model, not an Early 2011 model. If you truly have an Early 2011 model then it requires:
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
The specs you provided are also not suitable.

  • I recently updated? to Lion from 10.6.8(snow leopard), and things seem to be running slower.  Has anyone had similar problems?  I have Feb 2011 Macbook pro 13" 2.3 Ghz.

As Shootist pointed out, the system uses more power.
However, initially it will reindex the hard drive for spotlight, which will slow things down temporarily.
It also must rebuild caches that eventually will speed things up.
If it has completed indexing the hard drive (no dot pulsing in the spyglass), then there might be something wrong.
Start by booting into the Recovery HD (a partition created with Lion that has Disk Utility and reinstallation options) by holding down cmd-r when you restart. You can let go when the gray screen appears.
When it boots, select Disk Utility and Repair the drive.
If that doesn't speed things up, try re-installing the OS from the same Recovery HD. It won't delete any of your files, but it has helped some people whose Macs ran slow after installing Lion.
Also, how much memory do you have? Lion needs RAM so maxing your Mac out might also help.

  • Running Linux Mint on 2011 Macbook pro with OS X Lion

I want to dual boot my Macbook Pro with Linux Mint. I have heard that there are issues using Lion with dual booting Linux? I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how to dual boot with Linux.
    Thanks for the help!

Hello I run OSX Lion just fine with the "Commodore OS Vision" (Mint 10 based) on my late 2011, Macbook Pro.
the rEFIt bootloader works just fine on harddrives 500gb or lower, on my 750gb drive it doesn't seem to install correctly... I am waiting for a patch
I run everything Natively for best performance... I am not fond of virtualzation.
Here are the steps needed for installing Mint Linux
First within OSX use the disk utility to shrink the main OSX partition. (Usually called Macintosh HD)
Add 2 new partitions with the sizes you wish to designate for a "root partition" and "swap partition".
Format them both with the FAT filesystem.
Next download and burn the iso for Mini Linux, throw it into your drive.
Reboot holding down the "C" key to boot to SuperDrive/CD, the install should be pretty straight forward.
The only part I would like to warn you about is DO NOT resize or change the partitions using the Linux tools.
You can reformat partitions, change filesystem types, etc. just don't resize them or create new partitions without using the OSX disk utility, other wise you will have to sync your GPT and MBR tables using gptsync.
    I hope this helps!

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

  • Problem HDMI connection to new Panasonic TC-60ps34 plasma; tv says no signal but computer detects tv; worked fine on 4 yr old phillips plasma; 2011 macbook pro running os10.6.8.

New 60" Panasonic plasma says no signal won't display picture/sound from 2011 macbook pro running os10.6.8 connected via HDMI with moshi MDP to HDMI Adapter. Same setup on former 4-yr-old Phillips Plasma worked fine (but the tv died!)

Assuming this means the TV was not detected in any of these versions, this would not be a Snow Leopard installation or setup issue. I think that is what sig is trying to tell you.
If this is true, you might want to post in the MacBook forums to see if anyone has a similar issue. It would be a good idea to post the model number of your Toshiba if you do so, as this might be relevant. Otherwise, it sounds like the problem is in the TV, since the MacBook works with other displays.

  • How to you run the fan test for 2011 MacBook Pro?

My MacBook Pro seems to get too hot and I've been reading on the forums how people run tests on the fans and CPU temps, but I can't find where there's an option to do that? Any help would be great. Thanks.
