My 2012, 17" macbook pro starts, gray screen and shuts down.

Anybody knows why my 2012, 17" macbook pro is starting with gray screen and mac logo and shuts down after?
I have Mavrick on. Last night i tried to use itunes and got an error for the first time. It said " itunes was corrupted or not installed correctly" . There is no reason because i listened to music just day before. After working on some docs i shut down the laptop. This morning when i tried to start up it didnt happened. Tried all shortcuts to do recorvery. It said " mac HD and Recorvery HD" both are blocked and not accessible.
Ran another doagnoses, checked hard drive and got errors.
I cant see why hard drive might be damaged.
Plz help me out. I didnt do any backup and dont ant to reformat it.
Thanks
-Soleil

Well, i tried different things. First tried Recorvery start. It showed mac HD and Recovery HD but i couldnt choose any, said it was locked.
When i diagnosed the hard drive, dont remember exactly but it ran the HD test and on red showed Hard Drive damaged.
Tonight after putting this questions here i tried again Online Help option, i could see all my folders, files, applications but couldnt open any. It was using Safari.
Not sure whats going on. All started with getting slow and i didnt turn the laptop off "was on sleep" for few days till last night.
Like i said before, last night i couldnt start iTunes, but didnt pay attention to it and shut off laptop. Only if i knew it wont start up again.. :-(

  • MacBook Pro goes grey screen, then shuts down randomly

    My MacBook Pro (just purchased 3 months ago, not retina) shuts down unexpectedly. The screen goes grey, then it just shuts down after a few minutes. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas how to fix?

    You need to reset the SMC on your Macbook.
    * Shutdown your MacBook Pro
    * Connect the power adapter to your Mac
    * On the MacBook's keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
    * Release all keys and the power button at the same time
    * Boot your Mac as usual

  • MacBook Pro won't boot and shut down on its own.

    Hi, I am running a Macbook Pro. My problem is that the OS froze during use, and I could not move the cursor. As which point I force shut down by holding the powerswitch. From that point onwards I could not get the machine to boot, it keep getting stuck at the grey screen with Apple icon. After loading at the grey screen for 15-20 mins it shuts down on its own.
    I've tried to reset SMC (shift-control-option + power button) and PRAM (Command-Option-P-R) but it dint work. Please help. Thanks.

    It appears your problem occured after you upgraded to 10.8.2, but if you did it right after the SSD and RAM switch then it's hard to tell exactly what is causing the issue.
    I advise returning back to factory, hold command option r boot and wipe everything and reinstall 10.8
    ..Step by Step to fix your Mac
    If the problem continues, then make a warranty/AppleCare call, hopefully you didn't strip the screw heads or leave any other tell tale damage inside.
    If your fine on 10.8.2 for some time, then switch the RAM and do a hardware test extended or Rember or Memtest to make sure the new RAM is not the issue.
    If that's fine then Carbon Copy Cloner to the external SSD and hold option key down to boot from it and test that.
    Then do the internal SSD switch and test that.
    Take your time, Mac's are so finicky and you can't just slap this or that and expect it all to immediatly work like it should.

  • MacBook Pro started running slow and freezing up

    Hi,
    What are some things I can do when my MacBook Pro starts running slow and freezing up?  For example, windows are slow to open, and that pinwheel thing keeps spinning.  Clean up tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    tamyc,
    You can try resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller;
    You can try booting into Safe mode, to see whether it runs just as slowly (and freezes up) then;
    You can try disabling your antivirus software, to see if that makes a difference;
    You can download, install, and run EtreCheck, and include in your reply the output from an EtreCheck run, which might help identify software which should be uninstalled or updated.

    Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

    It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

  • My ipad showed a blue screen and shut down.

    My ipad showed a blue screen and shut down.  I cannot restart it.  A soft restart did not work.  I tried connecting to iTunes on the PC but it did not detect the device

    Did you try resetting the iPad?
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears- let go of the buttons.
    If that doesn't do anything, try this for the issue with iTunes not seeing the iPad.

    Hi chesterday, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    You must repair the HD, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft...
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
    You'll need the CD though.
    Unfortunately, Disk Utility can't fix all that much, and the only other Apple Options are erasing the HD, or installing OSX to a second drive, then using Migration Assistant to move stuff over to the new HD.

  • 2012 13" MacBook Pro constant rainbow wheel and heating after upgrade to Yosemite. Link Davis can you please have a look?

    Hey guys, I've been trying to save my mac from this constant lag for the past few days to no avail. I've been reading the forums and trying to figure this out myself but I haven't been able to reach a solution so here I am. I've done a clean reinstall. I've run disk permissions and repaired the disk. I've reset PRAM. I don't have FileVault running. I am constantly getting rainbow wheel, even as I'm typing this question out. Applications freeze in their own windows, for example, Chrome will freeze but I will still be able to move over to another application like safari and use safari. It's practically impossible to run any kind media because it stutters constantly. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance.
    Problem description:
    Mid 2012 13” Macbook Pro slowed to a crawl after update to Yosemite. I currently have 10.10.1 running. I have tried a clean install, I’ve resetted PRAM, I’ve run disk permission verification and repair. None have helped. I constantly get rainbow wheel and all sorts of media stutters.
    Below are my EtreCheck results. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance guys.

  • My late 2006 Black MacBook has a gray screen and won't boot.

    My late 2006 Black MacBook has a gray screen, folder icon, and flashing question mark.  I replaced the HD with a Western Digital 500 GB and had no change.  What's wrong with my MacBook?

    That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive Operating System data is somehow corrupted.
    Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
    Once it has finished booting and you Choose Your Language and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
    If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
    If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • TS2570 Gray screen, then shut down.

    I get the gray screen, and then the spinning wheel, but then it just turns off (about 10 seconds after the spinning wheel appears).  I tried safe mode and resetting the DV/PRAM but each time, it just turns off.   In the case of the DV/PRAM, this did reset as now I hear the startup sound (previously it had been muted) so something is working.
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    I just see the Macintosh HD.  If I select this it just goes to the same gray screen with the apple logo, spinning wheel and then turns off.
    Also I tried target disk mode on the broken computer.  The firewire symbol appears, but I can't see it on my new computer (MBP with OS X Mountain lion).  If I then reboot the new computer and look for boot choices (Alt at bootup) I can see the broken laptop as an external hard drive, but when I select it, evething hangs.
    I don't think I have the 10.5 install disk (moved house and country several times).
