My 2012 MacBook Air 13 kernel panics when its opened up from a sleep
My 2012 Macbook Air 13 (512/2.0ghz/8gb) crashes (kernel panic) after the SMC update. It crashes when you open it after it has been sleeping for about 8 hours. It does this after it sits for about 8 hours closed (sleeping) on battery and while plugged in. It is easy to replicate, it happens every day when I come in to work and then when I open it to work in the evening. I have submitted the crash report to Apple each time it happens and explained the circumstances which caused it to crash. Anyone else having this issue? I'm on 10.8 and applied the recent SMC update. It never did this on Lion (what it shipped with).
Are there any power nap logs I can check to see if that is causing the issue? Can I disable power nap to try that?
im having the same issue as you zaze. my march 2012 macbook air hang every single time when it try to wake up from sleep mode. it started to happen after i upgrade to mountain lion and then the smc update. i believe is the smc update[power nap specifically] issue, because before that patch the Mountain Lion OS is doing fine[i update the smc patch a week after it was release so i'm pretty sure is tht smc patch issue.
tire of playing around with the config, on this and off tht, it does not help at all and still hang[keyboard not responding , screen hang, sometimes cursur can move but it can do nothing with it].
i need to go through this multiple times a day until i so fed up that i change sleep mode to kick in after it idle for 1 hour.

2012 Macbook Air Kernel Panics post after installing Mountain Lion
I recently purchased a 2012 13" Macbook Air. No Issues under Lion for over a month. After upgrading to Mountain Lion (and taking the firmware update to support power), I've been experiencing consistent shutdowns whenever I close the lid and let the machine sleep for more than a few minutes. I've been submitting the error reports and gave apple a call yesterday and we went through some troubleshooting steps but the problem has continued. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Trying to figure out if it's a Mountain Lion or firmware bug that I will need to live with until a fix comes out or if it's possibly a third party software incompatability issue. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Hi guys! Just installed ML on my early 2009 MBAir (after market upgraded to a 240g SSD, but still just 2g of ram), and I panicked a bit at first when it turned out to be painfully slow and not displaying right (+slow trackpad!).
Bear in mind that the first thing ML will do is index your files for spotlight, which takes a while and is a bit of a resource hog that will slow everything else down and cause your machine to heat up.
I let it work all night, but by morning, my CPU usage was STILL at 100% and everything slow...
Activity monitor showed nothing over 10% CPU usage... First tip was to display ALL processes in Activity monitor, and not just MY processes, to see what exactly was sucking up my CPU!
Then, and it seems to often be the culprit on MBA's, it turned out that the kernel_task process was using up to 170% of my CPU usage (!). Problem is, that process sort of does a million things, so it can be hard to pinpoint the actual issue.
One of the things it does though, is work against overheating...
Given the download+install+indexing, my machine had been working all day and night, and was indeed getting super hot. Turning it off and letting it cool down for a whole fixed it all.
Kernel_task is back to normal, CPU usage is normal, display and trackpad are back to perfect. And in the end, ML is snappier than SL for me, even with the bare minimum in memory!
Good luck! <3 -
My MacBook Air shuts down when its more than half way charged and won't turn on unless I plug it in to the adapter? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
If you really do have a Mid 2013 Mac Air model then it is still in warranty, as the standard Apple warranty is one year from date of purchase. So take it into an Apple store and have it diagnosed and fixed under the warranty. There is some type of hardware problem that only Apple can fix.

Macbook Air kernel panics.
Hi All.
I have just bought the Macbook Air 1.86 ghz 13,3" 2gb Ram, and 128 Gb harddisk.
A couple of times now i have closed the lid to sent it to sleep mode, and when i open the lid again the computer donst wake again. The only thing i can do is holding down the power button to force it to shutdown, and then powering it up again.
Other times after wake a couple of minutes after the computer comes with the black message that i have to power the computer down.
I dont thing its the software because i have now reinstalled the mac osx three times and currently the software is as venilla as it's get because i have not installed any other software yet other then the one the followed the machine and the lates flashplayer.
Is there any one how knows whats going on.
here: two of the log files i can sent to apple after start up:

Heres what i got from the kernel.log file, from a little before the last crash and the after. As you notice there is no log from a god time before the crash, as 16:12:16 is right after the crash.

I really hope some one can help me.i too have been having a good number of kernel panics and had an older macbook that had a good number which caused apple to replace that unit.
a couple of recommendations based on what i've been experiencing with 10.6.6 and my mba.
1. report every kernel panic
2. if you can keep track of what applications you were running and what you were doing.
3. check for updates often and install them. apple is aware there are a few situations that cause more kernel panics -- flash run sites are the cause of a large number and there are firmware upgrades coming to address these issues.
4. you can run disk utilities to see if you have a hardware or software related issue. this can be done with the assistance of a senior tech support rep on the tech support line or at the genius bar.
5. let apple know you are having these issues as they can be caused by your hardware or your apple software or 3rd party applications and if apple is aware of your issues they will work to address them. -
MacBook Air Kernel Panic after boot
Hi all! Recently, My MacBook Air had been kind of acting up. Everytime when I cold boot it, it would start, then after a few seconds later crash, then a kernel panic would occur after a few seconds. This happens recurringly and I do not know what is the cause of the problem. It seems that this would only happen after a long period inbetween the first boot and the next boot.
Answays, here is my crashlog for reference:

Please help me solve my problem! This has only happened recently after my update to Mavericks.Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to the problem:
Hamachi
Elmedia Player
Razer mouse driver
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you check that all are up to date, and if they are, uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can determine which is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes. -
My Macbook has a Kernel Panic when trying to boot from Mac OS Install DVD
It might also be relevant that my Accounts Preference Panel crashes System Preferences when I try to open it. Disk Utility sees no problems with my drive, and booting into single user mode and doing a disk check has no results.
I am running a 2010 Macbook
2GB Ram
2.4 Duel Core Processor
Mac OS 10.6.8
Windows Installed Via Bootcamp, but problems occured before Windows was installed as well.
Anything Else that I need to add?Try reinstalling Snow Leopard. If you continue getting a kernel panic booting from the DVD, then either you have a bad installer disc or you have a hardware failure.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/. -
Macbook Santarosa kernel panic when ends battery charge
I have a serious problem with my Santarosa Macbook (less than one month old).
When I am in battery mode, and the MB ends out the autonomy, it does not go in standby safesleep mode. It simply goes (badly) "off", just like if I would take the battery outside the battery bay.
I have tried to recalibrate the battery, following more the one time the apple's tutorials. No results.
I have also reseted the SMC and the PRAM: the only result is that now, when I arrive at the end of the battery level, the MB does not anymore go "Badly off", it goes in Kernel Panic.
What can I do?
Could it be a software related problem? Or (sigh) is something Hardware related?
Thankyou!
Here follows my last Kernel Panic:

Kernel panic when i open logic
Hello people i need your help!
This is driving me crazy. Has anyone had this before? Does anyone know what to do?
When i open logic i get a kernel panic as the 'updating tree' dialouge gets halfway. I have now idea what, how and why its doing it. it was running fine untill yesterday. i moved a few folders around but that was it i did not install anything new so i cant understand why this is hapening?!
Please i need answers
Is there anyway of contacting apple directly?
thanks
andy9 times out of 10 a kernal panic is due to a hardware issue. For example, bad ram.
I had something similar happen to me after I clean installed Tiger. Everytime I tried to install logic it would hang at a certain point. I took it to the shop and they diagnosed deffective ram.
You might be able to use your apple hardware test cd/dvd that came with your mac to check your hardware. Also apps like Techtool pro also diagnose hardware issues.
I found the following numbers at the bottom of apple.com/uk
Call the Apple Store on 0800 039 1010 (UK) / 1800 92 38 98 (Republic of Ireland)
They may try to get rid of you if you're outside of warranty (hardware) this happened to me and I pushed them about it being a "software" issue. This got me put through the "Pro Apps" dept (Australia)
Good luck

Kernel Panic when Remote users disconnects from AFP share
System 1 Macbook System 2 Mac Pro both 10.4.8. On my Macbook I mount an AFP share (Not SMB but a public share) on the Mac Pro. After copying files etc if I disconnect the share the Mac Pro will throw a kernel Panic. Found it odd that the Mac Pro dies even though I'm actually on the Macbook mounting and unmounting the shares. I couldn't find anything online about this. Anybody have an idea how to fix? SMB doesn't cause this problem only MAC to MAC.
Thanks,
dave.

Thanks for helping. I'm green at this! Getting definite experience as you can see, but can you help me with an actual real live make and model of a graphics card that is known to work on the G5 Xserve?
I called ATI re: their Radeon 9200, and was told by tech support that they do not support this card on the G5 Xserve. Yet, Scott Maiden, in his post above, referenced an ATI Radeon card.
What cards are being successfully used? Can I have a list?
Apple Tech Support will not give any such list. Maybe they know of some problem with all? (When I bought the Xserve in September of 2004, Apple Tech Support recommended the VillageTronic card.) The new, yet un-released Quad-core 64-bit Intel Xeon Xserve has "built-in graphics functionality, with mini-DVI output and support for industry-standard VGA displays," according to Apple's web site. Hopefully this will eliminate this type of problem in future releases of Xserve. But for the nasty here and now...
All I need is an inexpensive graphics card to administer this Xserve. Currently I am using a 21” SuperMatch SVGA monitor.
Thank to all who have helped.

jamescalvin-
The only cards I have found to work reliably in the
G5 XServe are the cheap-arse PCI models. I do not use
my XServe for serious graphics work so I do not know
how it works with other cards.
Can you swap in a known compatible PCI card for
testing purposes?

My Mac always kernel panic when I open links in Chrome.
hello guys, here's my problem:
When I use Chrome, there're chances that when it 'loads' a page and then causes kernel panic and restart my mac. what i say about it 'loads' means openning a link in a page. or click the reload button on the menu bar.
I dont remember if it happened before I updated to Marvericsk. It happens a lot now. like every 50 pages opened it panic once. I uninstalled most of my chrome plugins and it doesn't work. Too bad..
and below is the report. hope you can help me. thx!

You may find the troubleshooting steps toward the bottom of the article below helpful. Please keep in mind, diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

Kernel Panic when i open screen
Hi all
So my computer was running fine today, but after moving between classes, i re-opened my laptop and a kernel panic screen popped up. So i restarted, and when the option to report came up, i clicked the report button. No log popped up or anything, and spotlight quit working. I proceeded to repair all permissions, and run through all the maintenance and cleaning options in Onyx. I restarted the computer a few times, and did some work on Matlab.
Afterwards, i closed my laptop, and when i opened it, i got another KP, and spotlight doesn't work again. Again, i clicked report, and nothing popped up. So i looked around and found my crash log. This is what it had for the most recent KP:

I tried the same upload from my account (admin) ans from my wifes account and had no problem uploading the pictures.
I did get a kernel panic once on my account during an online game, once about a month ago.

Thank You for any help.
PBHI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
First because FB uses Java to go Safari/Preferences and select the Security tab. Where you see; Web content Make sure the top 3 buttons are checked.
Next, go here for help to install the Facebook plugin now required for uploading images.
http://www.facebook.com/help/?ref=pf#!/help.php?page=830
Go here to make sure the Facebook plugin is installed, go to ~/Libraryy/Internet Plug-Ins/ and make sure this file is there: fbplugin1_01.plugin.
Make sure you are running the latest version of Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/About Safari. It should be 4.0.4 If not, click the Apple Menu/Software Updates to bring your system sofware up to date.
Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Kernel panic when trying to upgrade from OS X 10.7.5
Running an intel imac with os x 10.7.5, I tried upgrading to mavericks. After downloading and try to restart, I get a persistent kernel panic. Have used disk utility from recovery HD to repair permissions and repair disk. Still get kernel panic screen on restart. What now?
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report. -
MacBook Pro kernel panic on wake from sleep
I need some advice. Over the past few days, my MacBook Pro has been experiencing kernel panics when I open the screen and it wakes from sleep. The panic is immediate; there is no lag or time between opening the computer and the initiation of the event. It appears to be intermittent however and I wanted to get some input on this before I start troubleshooting it. Perhaps I may need to have Apple take a look at the unit but I would like to solve the issue (if possible) myself.
One thing I did notice is that the kernel panics started only after I recently updated Mac OS X with the most recent Security Update 2006-003, Quicktime 7.1 and Front Row 1.2.2. Not sure if this is related however, it is interesting that the panics started almost immediately following the software update.
Here is the panic log:

MacBook Pro 2 GHz 1 GB Ram Mac OS X (10.4.6)One other thing I noticed that could or could not be the problem but is sure curious is the option in the Energy Saver control pane for automaticly dimming the screen before sleep. I first noticed when I got my MacBook Pro that this option was enabled without it be marked as on. I checkmarked it then unchecked it again and the screen did not appear to dim before sleep anymore. However, since the last kernel panic on Monday, I have reenabled the option thinking it could possibly be this. It's kind of far fetched I know, but my system has been stable for past 2 days so perhaps this software flaw in the Energy Saver is the blame. Sort of makes sense since this timmer for dimming is activated before sleep of the display which might corrispond with some part of the sleep/wake system of the computer and/or Mac OS X. Later, I am going to try turning the dimmer off and cycling the computer from sleep to wake and see if I get a panic. I'll keep everyone posted as to my results.

Kernel panics when in sleep mode
I bought a macbook pro about a month ago. It first came with Mountain Lion installed on it. I began having kernel panics when I put the laptop into sleep mode by closing the lid. After some time I would open the lid to find that the laptop had rebooted with a kernel panic. This continued to sporadically happen. I called apple and went to the apple store. The mbp passed their hardware tests so they did a clean Yosemite installation. I am still having the kernel panics. They all look nearly identical. I'm not sure what could be causing this. Any ideas are appreciated.

Apparently the forum software here is preventing my from posting my entire log. After doing a clean install of Yosemite this same kernel panic continued to happen and I started getting gpuRestarts as well. Finally they replaced my logic board at the apple store and so far no more panics. My google results lead me to believe this was a failing GPU.
