My 23" HD Monitor Keeps Waking Up - Help!!

My monitor keeps waking up on it's own. I know there must be something going on internally with my Mac Pro that makes it wake up. What should I start with?

I've recently started having this problem with a 23" ACD. It's connected to a 15" PowerBook. I'm still running 10.4.10 on that system.
Before I noticed this problem, I noticed that I started getting problems with devices plugged into the Firewire hub on the monitor. I had some external drives plugged into it, and whenever I switched off the monitor they started experiencing momentary loss of the Firewire bus (hence, they disconnected with an error.)
Suspecting first a software fault (the USB was also plugged into the monitor at this time) I unplugged that. But the Firewire problem persisted. I've stopped using the Firewire hub, and since then started getting this 'switching itself back on' problem.
This all leads me to suspect a power supply fault of some form. Having just read other threads, which report problems with the monitor going off (or not coming on), and suggesting that power supplies have been failing, strengthens that suspicion for me. Looks like it's time to invoke the Applecare warranty.

  • MBP keeps waking up when connected to monitor

Greetings, my MacBook Pro keeps waking from sleep when I have it plugged in to my 24" Apple Display.  Doesn't seem to wake from sleep when it's not.  Anyone else having similar issues?  Thoughts?  I did turn off the option to allow network access to wake it to see if that would help, but alas, this morning she was awake.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yes, that does happen to me. The only thing that works for me is that after you plug it in to press command-option-eject and that will put your laptop to sleep. Hope that answers your question.

  • MacBook Pro keeps waking from sleep on its own

My MacBook Pro keeps waking itself from sleep for no reason.
I had the battery changed for free by Apple (apparently it's one symptom of a problem with the original battery) but it hasn't abated. (Occasionally it won't wake up from sleep too, but that's rare and so not much of a problem). The main issue is its inability to stay asleep.
Anyone else had this? I can't find any advice anywhere else and the Genius Bar at the only store I can get to is always fully-booked.
    Any help much appreciated.

Hi craigie, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In addition to Michael's ideas, there have been some weird sleep issues caused by a System Preference, and although your issue doesn't sound the same, if you run on AirPort (and not Ethernet) I'd check it out anyway:
    -Open System Preferences.
    -Open Network.
-Click on Built-in Ethernet (note what it says underneath it: Not Connected or Inactive; Inactive is what seems to have caused the majority of other issues).
-Click the - button at the bottom of the window to delete the original Ethernet pref.
    -Click Apply.
    -Click the + button.
    -For Interface, select Ethernet.
-For Service Name, enter Built-in Ethernet.
    -Click on Create.
-Make sure your Location is set to Automatic or AirPort (or whatever you normally have it set to).
-Click on Apply and close Preferences.

  • Monitor keeps going to sleep

    Hello there
I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE-063uk Desktop PC, product number: VG251AA, serial number {Content Removed}, with Windows 7, my monitor keeps going to sleep and a message saying VGA NO SIGNAL comes up. The only way to awake it is by switching the pc off at the power button (the F2 or "half moon" button should awake it but does not) .
I have checked everything from the "Save Power settings (which is on off)" to Screen Saver (off as well) and done anything what I can find on the HP help and support, troubleshooting problems, testing this and that, even connected a different monitor and restored it to an earlier date, but I cannot solve the problem.
Please can you help. Thank you.

    Hi vitolaterza,
Are you getting the no VGA signal after the computer goes to sleep? If so this is normal.
Turn off all sleep mode options; make sure everything is set to never sleep.
Check the cables on the back, you only need one video cable going to the monitor.  Also go to hp.com and download the latest BIOS and Graphics driver.
Here is a link to download the drivers.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Why does my iMac keep waking every 2 minutes from 2:00 in the morning?

    Hi,
I awoke the other night and happened to notice my iMac keeps waking from sleep every 2 minutes from 2:00 in the morning. The screen doesn't come on, I hear the harddrive power up for a little while then stop, 2 minutes later it happens again.
I don't have "Wake for Network Access" on, and have tried turning off "Allow Bluetooth devices", I have also done a Virus Scan
I have been able to link the wake attempts to RTC (Alarm) - Real Time Clock. And I have also looked in the console although I don't really understand what is being logged, please see below.
I have OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) installed on a mid 2010 iMac, although I can't say how long this has been happening.
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Byron

  • Program monitor keeps going black in Premiere Pro CC

PC - Premiere Pro CC - AMD Fire Pro (13.101-130604a-158071E-ATI)
I'm working on a project and the program monitor keeps going black in Premiere Pro CC while I am working on the timeline. I've got like 28 GB of memory alocated to the program and just updated the latest driver for my video card. No clue why this keeps happening, but the only way I can get around it is to restart. When I go to close down the program freezes and I have to shut it down in the system preferences.
Under a crazy deadline if you can help? Thanks

here's my story. I'm also having this problem with video appearing in the Program monitor. The only thing I did differently is that yesterday when I was editing, I pulled the Program monitor out of the main Premiere interface and dragged it over to my second desktop monitor. that worked just dandy.
when I opened Premiere today, and opened an entierly different project, there was no video in the output window (and it was locked back into the main interface). I also can't select clips on the TL. The software locks up, and I have to restart.
I am able to create a new project and render the countdown leader. I was also able to import the project that wasn't displaying correctly, and have it work just like normal. So I think I'm back in business for now.
I'm deeply concerned though. I'm doing a webinar about Premiere very soon (with rehearsals tomorrow!). A failure like this looks bad for everybody. Also, I don't relish having to re-import all of my old projects in this way to get the basics working again. Any idea what went wrong? Right now I feel like I'd better never drag the program window to a second monitor to enjoy a larger program monitor while editing.

  • HP pavillion Elite HPE-541F ... system will not start and monitor keeps going into sleep mode

    Good Morning:
Having an issue with my Hp Pavilion Elite HPE-541F and Monitor HP2311x
Yesterday, thinking I was updating Java ... clicked on it and agreed to things being allowed on computer ... started adding icons to my desktop .... then pop ups kept coming up to register etc ... I assumed that something was wrong so I attempted to restore system to previous ... since then my system will not boot up ... will say "starting windows" and I can hear the fans working but thats it ... second part of the issue is that the monitor keeps going to sleep, so even if I try to restart the computer in "safe" mode or anything else monitor goes to sleep and there's nothing on the screen so don't know if anything is doing anything .... Very sorry I'm also not very tech savy with computers ... just trying to save time and money before I have to bring system to computer repair person .... Any help would be appreciated .... Thanks so very much

  • IPhone 4 keeps waking itself up

I tether my phone to my laptop for the laptop's internet connection. No problem there. The problem arises when I unplug the phone from the laptop and take it into town. I put it to sleep (if that's what it's called) by pushing and holding the button on the top outer edge. To "wake" it back up I hit the home button and "slide to unlock" - all as it should be.
Trouble is, the phone keeps waking up all by itself. At first I thought it might be because it was jiggled in my pocket - or an e-mail came in - or something but then it was sitting on a table at a friend's and woke itself up over and over and over. We all (3 of us) watched in fascination.
Does anyone have ANY idea what is causing this? I've been to both my service provider (Rogers) and the local Mac store which also sells the phones. Both are baffled. It's driving me nuts! Sometimes the iPod starts playing too, all by itself. Rogers tech support had me fiddled with some settings but it didn't help. :>(

Thought I'd better report back on this issue, in case others encounter the same problem. I ended up not resetting the phone the next day because the phone behaved itself the whole time I was in town. However, I've figured out what the problem was (I hope).
On a trip back from the coast during a blizzard my phone started going REALLY nuts, not only turning itself on but disconnecting from Bluetooth over and over. Then it was fine for a few days. Then it started acting up again. It finally dawned on me what the problem could be.
I have a Bluetooth keyboard which I pack around in a bag (I hate typing on the iPhone keyboard) and I'm almost positive that is what is creating the problem. My first clue was after I got home through the blizzard. I noticed that there was a text message open and contained one character typed over and over and over. After something similar happening yesterday I think that what's waking up the phone is the keyboard, similar to when a phone call comes in. The keyboard starts typing (from pressure of something in the bag), so the phone thinks it's supposed to be awake and working. If I either turn off Bluetooth on the phone or get far enough away from the keyboard, the phone behaves.

  • Insomniac iMac keeps waking

Anyone have notions why my iMac keeps waking? The console reads like this, over and over:
    1/30/09 3:27:40 PM /usr/sbin/ocspd2262 starting
    1/30/09 3:27:47 PM com.apple.Safari2267 YES
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
    iMac Mac OS X (10.5.6)

So maybe it is the moue or the keyboard itself.
Have you tried pulling the batteries out of both and see if the machine wakes up then?

  • Dock not showing at startup and the monitor keeps blinking

    Hello,
I've had my macbook pro for about 2 years - it's a late 2011 model. I have all the latest updates installed and the latest operating system (10.9.2).
A couple of months ago I started having some issues with it - like one of the usb's not working (had to reset SMC) and mail suddenly marking mails as unread (this solved it: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24908508#24908508).
Now, for the second time, when I startup the laptop, the dock won't show and the monitor keeps blinking and the system is very slow. When it happened for the first time I decided to shut down the mac and waited some minutes before starting it up again. The problem didn't show up again. Now, a day later, the same thing is happening. Clearly this problem is not going away. Yesterday, after the problem I went and repaired the disc's permissions, hoping it was something caused by it.
Hoping someone here can help me with this issue, please.
    Update:
So I managed to open finder and move a folder that I had previously downloaded away from the downloads folder (I read that tip from someone in a similar thread) and the dock showed up suddenly and the desktop stopped blinking.
Either way, that doesn't mean the problem won't show up again. So if anyway has any clues has to what should I be doing with my mac (do I need to rebbot it?), since lately I keep having a lot of issues with it...

Ok so now I have this problem pratically everytime I startup the laptop. I know I have to move some files around (it doesn't have to be in the downloads folder, now it happens in the desktop as well) for it to stop. But this is pretty anoying. I'm looking for a permanent solution ofr this problem. Can someone help me, please?

  • Imac keeps waking up immediately after being put to sleep

    hi
firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere in the community
i bought an imac in june of this year (running most up-to-date version of mountain lion), and normally when i leave it, i put it to sleep instead of shutting down
have had no issues in doing this until last night.. now, as soon as i put it to sleep, it goes into sleep mode and then instantly wakes itself up again
i have checked the battery on the mouse and the keyboard (98% and 100% respectively)
i have nothing plugged into any usb ports
any ideas on why it keeps waking up by itself and how to resolve this issue?
    thanks

    hello
    thanks for your reply
i am new to apple products and to the community, and having read the community etiquette i apologise for not referring to the 'more like this' section before i posted - lesson learned
in respect of your advice, i checked the energy saver options as you suggested and the 'wake for network access' option was unchecked
interestingly, i have never had this issue until last night and i have made no system changes, downloaded or updated anything?
still a bit confused, will read through the 'more like this' posts and see if my answer lurks there somewhere
    thanks again

  • PS CS6 keeps opening Adobe Help in browser & crashes

Photoshop CS6 keeps opening Adobe Help in browser - crashes and takes OS with it.
Bug frequently reappears in Layer Options and in Color Picker.
I keep getting this bug (and many others) for years. I did report it about a year ago. It's incredibly irresponsible from Adobe not the correct this. I had a crash just 10 mins ago, it wiped out 2 hours of work.
I'm a CC subscriber and I have the issue on two different PCs (home and office) with Windows7.
If you have this issue, please reply to this topic. Adobe must see the masses reporting this issue here too.

I have the same problem when using layer styles, Adobe said they fixed it here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5697913
But I am using the latest CC and it's still happening to me.
Update: I did manage to save my work by going to the photoshop window and very quickly hitting escape to close the dialog box for layer styles. After that I was able to save my work without any more help pages opening.

  • HT6208 Cannot download the latest update 7.1.1 even though plugged in and on wifi keeps saying error help!!!!!

Cannot download the latest update 7.1.1 even though plugged in and on wifi keeps saying error help!!!!!

I am not getting an errr #. It just says that there are purchases on my ipod, not in my itunes. I transfer all of my ipod purchases into itunes. Then I try an download the new version of my ipod 7.1.1. It still says there are purchases on my ipod touch. So I just hit continue because their are not purchases on my ipod, that aren't in itunes. It extracts the software, and backs up ipod. Then itunes just closes. When I reopen it I get the same message A new iPod software version (7.1.1) is available for the iPod “My" iPodl”. Would you like to update your iPod now? My imac has recently been restored to as new, I have the newest ipod touch, and my version of itunes is also the newest version. The only thing that I can assume is that the problem, is another untested & bad update, from Capn Cook.

  • TV remote keeps waking IQ505

How do I turn off the IQ505 remote receiver?  I do not have a tuner and my TV remote keeps waking up the computer.

WOWzers, that is a real issue for a lot of ppl, especially those that play some game called "Windower".  I just googled it and found loads of frustrated users out there trying almost everything to disable it...
However, I think I stumbled across a good thread, sounds like a combination of ppl managed to figure it out.

    2) Turn off SSDP Discovery:

    4) Preventing installation of IR device drivers:
    - Upon reboot you will receive a prompt asking you if you want to install the device drivers -> SELECT "NEVER FOR THIS DEVICE"

    - Follow directions from earlier and select "Manual" from the drop down menu (Startup Type) -> Apply -> OK

  • ICloudDrive.exe keeps waking up my PC

I have my Windows 7 PC set to sleep after being idle for 10 minutes. Since I installed the latest iCloud control panel and enabled iCloud Drive my machine keeps waking up after sleeping for about 10 seconds. The machine then sits there for the 10 minutes specified, sleeps for 10 seconds and wakes up again in this sleep wake loop. After much searching I have discovered that it is iclouddrive.exe that is causing this problem. If I kill the iclouddrive.exe task everything is ok. The machine sleeps until I wake it or one of the scheduler tasks wakes it.
I can leave iclouddrive.exe running, go into control Panel / Power Options / Advance Power Setting / Change When My Computer Sleeps / Change Advance Power Settings / Sleep / Allow Wake Timers and set it to "Disable". The machine sleeps after 10 minutes ok and wakes as normal when the mouse or keyboard is used, BUT no schedules tasks run.
It seems to be a bug in iclouddrive.exe .

This fix would not correct the situation with my PC.  The only thing that works is to complete disable the iclouddrive services, etc.  Hoping that Apple comes up with a fix for this soon.  In the meantime, I have unchecked the iCloudDrive option to prevent it from running on my PC until the bug is corrected.
