Hi, are you doing it through Settings or via iTunes? If doing it through Settings, try plugging it in via USB and updating with iTunes. Hope this helps.

i have an ipod touch 4g with 8gb but it is stuck in recovery mode and when i try to restore it an error pops up saying that the ipod ipod can not be restored then the number 1604 pops up how do i fix it
Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Tried all of the recommended resets and combinations mentioned, but the ipod is still not recognized. He then said he doesnt know, ma Now what?If it does not work on other computers then I agree with the Genius

My iPod is stuck in recovery mode and it keeps asking me to input my passcode which is impossible if it's stuck in recovery mode.
HELP!!!!Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store -

Hello there!
It sounds like your phone won't boot all the way, and is getting stuck at this screen:
I would recommend you use the troubleshooting section labeled "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" in this article:

I upgraded my iphone4 wirelessly to iOS 5.1 and now I'm stuck in recovery mode and when I try and restore my phone it gives me error code (1) At this point,
I want a working phone. Any ideas?download a program called RecBoot, very easy to use, connect your iphone and click on "exit recovery mode" and it will restart normally. I had the same problem as you, but I solved it with this program.

I have an iPad that is stuck in recovery mode. When I try to restore the firmware, I get an unknown error occured (1611). Does anybody have a solution for this?
There is a way to get it recovered from the so called DFU mode. Try to restart the phone while holding the home and power button at the same time. Then try to connect it to iTunes and do the same again. If you try that again till it works you should be able to use your iPhone as before.
