My 2nd gen ipod touch just stopped detecting wireless networks.

I know my wifi is fine because my laptop and phone can connect. I've tried resetting to factory settings as well as resetting network settings on the ipod. Nothings working. Any other ideas?

Is this the problem;
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
Frequently it is due to a hardware problem.

  • 2nd Gen Ipod Touch screen just went dim

On my 2nd gen ipod touch my screen just went dark, no "backlight" or brightness. I'vwe turned off the auto brightness, I've restored the whole ipod and I am running iOS4.1. Up until today I have had no problem like this. I, of course, can't find anything on the forums similar to this. When I bring the ipod out of sleep I have a lit screen until I slide the bar to unlock, then boom no light. If I catch the screen in the right light I can see the apps, but other than that, NO Deal. Is there a fix??? Is anyone else having this problem???
    thanks
    Tim

Well, I think it is fixed or I have gone the longest amount of time with the screen not going dim, no thanks to Apple.
I went as far as trying to jailbreak my ipod and "downgrading" to iOS3. I got it jailbrokenm but could not downgrade to anything, so I went back to iOS4.2.1.  It actually worked worse while jailbroken, the screen never lit up.  The "fix" came about when I created a whole new library for the ipod, loaded a fresh download of iOS4.2.1 and took all of the extra apps off and so far the screen has been staying lit all the time.  the only thing i can think off was that there was something wrong with library file.  Now if Apple could come up with an easy was for me to have my ipod open the new library when connected istead of me having to do the Shift+click method, becasue I am not sure if it is safe to delete the original library file.
Anyone having the same problem try creating a new iTunes library and copying your music files over, hopefully it helps you too.

  • 2nd gen iPod touch+iOS 4.2.1=problems

Hi!I have a 2nd gen iPod touch which has iOS 4.2.1 I'm using it with a Samsung Galaxy microphone headset. Since I have iOS 4.2.1 on the iPod, it skips tracks, stops in the middle of the track and starts to play another one or just simply puts itself into FFW or stops while in my pocket. I'm using the device with this Samsung Galaxy earphone/mic combination for a long time, however I had no problems with it under earlier iOS versions. The shuffle for shake option is switched off in the settings of the iPod. Why is my iPod still going crazy in my pocket? Even when the screen is locked?

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults.
If you still have the problem then you may have a problem with the headphones. Maybe a bad connection or intermitent short/open.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch sleep/wake button will not work

Like the title says, the sleep/wake button (top button) doesn't work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. In short, I can't put it into sleep mode (I have to wait the one minute), turn it off to save the battery, take screenshots, or even reset it (without iTunes, anyways).
I don't have any guesses on why it's not working. It just stopped working one day. I don't see water damage (via the water damage detector in the earbud jack), and I don't think I dropped it in a way that would harm it (unless dropping it on carpet counts).
I should also mention that randomly, one day after school, I was messing with it, and the button worked. I think the battery had died, and I managed to turn it on then. It worked for a few hours (I charged the battery), and then it went back to not working.
The warranty's up (and I'm broke), so I can't repair it. I also want to point out that the problem started not long after the warranty expired. What, at this point, is my best option? Should I just save up for the newest model? Or would it be cheaper and more efficient to save up just enough for a repair? Any other options I should consider?
    Thanks in advance.

As I said, you can move on to Restore. Backup everything then Restore as New. Restoring from backup would just copy whatever software issue you may have. But it sure looks more and more like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the button to see if perhaps some dirt particles are stuck there.
You can also make an appointment with a Gnius at the nearest Apple store to have it diagnosed. Apple does not fix iPods, they just replace them with refurbished units, so it won't be cheap. Prices are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You can Google for third part repair hops or do-it-yoursel kits.
    Good luck.

  • Can I exchange my 2nd gen iPod touch to a new one?

I just wanna know if I can exchange my 2nd gen iPod touch to a new one or higher without paying?

    No.

  • Please help; What makes the 2nd Gen iPod Touch better then the 1st Gen?

I am thinking about buying an 8gb iPod Touch, should i save some dough and buy the 1st gen iPod Touch or pay a bit more and buy the 2nd gen?
Also, what makes the 2nd gen iPod Touch better then the 1st gen, what has been improved, changed, etc...?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the 1st gen touch since it first came out and just got the 2nd gen touch last month. I'll list a few things I like about the 2nd gen touch.
    1. internal speaker. makes a huge difference in my opinion.
    2. new design. alot nicer to hold in your hand than the 1st gen.
    3. seems faster overall than the 1st gen touch.
4.display no longer has blue tint. now has more of a yellow tint. makes pics and movies look a little better.
If you can afford the 2nd gen touch I would highly recommend it.

  • HD Video's Won't Play on 2nd Gen Ipod Touch

I recently bought a 2nd gen ipod touch, i had owned one before, but that was when HD videos were basically just starting, so i had never had problems with getting tv shows on my ipod, i have recently downloaded 2 HD episodes of Family Guy, but whenever i try to put them on my ipod an error comes up that they aren't a supported format, is there a way i can trade these HD versions for SD versions, or a way that i can get a converter that can put them in the right format? (When i looked on itunes, i only saw hd episodes, because it was season 9 of family guy, i have no clue if there are any SD versions, so a converter would be the most helpful)

HD is NOT supported on the 2nd gen ipod touch.
Every time you download HD content, the SD version automatically is downloaded as well. Sync this version, not the HD version.
I would guess that there is an SD version/ Look more closely.

  • 2nd gen iPod Touch - can earphones with mic be used?

My daughter just got a 2nd gen Touch. She wants to buy some apps that use a microphone for input. I realise the 2nd gen doesn't come supplied with inline mic earphones (as opposed to the 3rd gen, which does), but can she buy any brand of earphone with inline mic and expect them to work?
Or does she need official Apple ones?

I have a 2nd generation ipod touch with the 3.1 software loaded. I don't see a menu available to pair a Bluetooth stereo headset. Is this capability available on the 2nd gen ipod touch?

  • How to sync contacts to 2nd gen iPod touch?

I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and have just moved from MobileMe to iCloud on all of my other devices which are supported.  On the iPod Touch I now should be able to sync contacts and calendars only via iTunes, since it will not work with iCloud.  All is well with calendar syncing.  However, even though I have the appropriate boxes checked in iTunes to sync contacts, I get "no contacts" on the Touch.  What might I be doing wrong?  Thanks!

Thanks, I had seen that support article.  It states that although the Touch will not sync with iCloud, both calendar and contact data will continue to reside locally on the device.  In my case this is true, and can sync locally with iTunes, for iCal, but not for contacts.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch doesn't wake up regularly to receive email

How can I get my 2nd gen iPod Touch (using ios 4.2.1 Build Version 8C148) to 'wake up' regularly to receive email (from my gmail account)? When the screen blanks (locks) while the wi-fi is on, it appears to also turn off wi-fi (I assume to conserve battery charge) until I unlock the screen, & therefore doesn't check for email every so often - I have to unlock screen & check manually. I want to know if there are iPod settings (I feel I looked over all possibilities, but could have missed something) or an app that can enable my iPod Touch to check for email every 10 minutes (while the screen is locked & there's enough charge in the battery) & if I receive one or more emails, generate the audio notification. [I tried several search phrasings on this support site & saw nothing similar to my request for assistance]
    Thanks.

The only setting is to have Push turned on in the Settings>Mail. However, your problem may be related to Google stopping Push for Gmail

  • Downloading HD videos on a 2nd gen. iPod Touch?

    Hey guys!
I'm having some difficulty downloading some newer HD videos on my 2nd gen. iPod touch (Legend of Korra episodes if you must know). Two of them aren't downloaded on, one of them I have no clue why, and the other "The Voice in the Night", cannot be played on the iPod (even though the other ones can). I'm wondering if I can change the video so I can download it onto my iPod without buying it again.
    Thanks!
    P.S.
The other episode is "The Revelation", and it just won't download for no reason (iTunes doesn't notify me that it won't either).

Should work fine, it is a USB power adaptor.

  • Movies converted for AppleTV won't sync to 2nd gen iPod touch with iTunes 8

I have about 40 movies that I converted to "Apple TV" format with Quicktime Pro. They all play fine on my Apple TV. But only one of them will sync with my new 2nd gen iPod touch... and that one was converted by someone else for me to Apple TV with iSquint!
iTunes tells me the remaining videos cannot be played on this iPod. ***? They play in iTunes, they play on the Apple TV... what's the difference with the iPod?
So now I'm having to completely reconvert all my movies to iPod format with the function in iTunes 8 "Create iPod or iPhone version" but this is PAINFULLY SLOW!!! One video on my brand new 3.06Ghz iMac Intel Core 2 Duo took FOUR HOURS
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else find a faster way to fix it???
    HELP!!

    It just does.
You can do it quicker using other tools.
For instance I have a hardware device called Turbo.264 which shifts the conversion off the computer and is much quicker.
You can read all about it here :-

  • 2nd gen ipod touch obsolete?

ever since earlier this year, I have been noticing that more iOS application updates are no longer being written for iOS 4. this wasn't a major concern until a week ago, when I started noticing that the number of updates that were incompatible with my 2nd gen ipod touch had gone from 4 to 13 within 8 days of each other. since there looks to be fewer and fewer apps that will run under iOS 4, I have gotten to wondering about my current iPod. A few months ago, my 2nd gen iPod Touch was diagnosed by the genius bar in SF. the employee who ran the tests told me that my iPod was having some hardware issues, and a replacement would cost me $99. I really didn't see the point in doing anything at the time, but, if I am not going to be able to use the iPod as I have been doing for the past 3.75 years, then it might be time to replace it. I know that apple will discontinue support for iOS 4 completely before too long, and I don't want to be stuck with an ancient ipod. I was stuck with an ancient ibook g4 for 7 years prior to getting my current MacBookPro. any suggestions or feedback would be greatly welcomed! thanks

"Do we simply toss them out?"
    No.
"I think that this is a little ridiculous"
Since you don't just "throw them out", there is no "ridiculousness".
"I paid for a product that I can no longer use simply because it is older."
Baloney.  You can use the product, until it's no longer operational.  If it breaks, you can have it repaired outside of the warranty.
