My 2nd generation Ipod red light stays on

I got a 2nd Generation Ipod Shuffle, and it was fantastic up until now.
It was docked and the green light was on, So i ejected it, and the green light just stayed on. The ipod was off, up until i turned it on after removing it from the dock. Shortly after my ipod's light turned red and isn't recognized by itunes anymore. The light just stays red and doesn't shut off whether the ipod is on or off. I put the ipod back on the dock hoping that something would happen but it just stays the same. i turn the ipod on, and nothing happens whatsoever. the red light just stays on and nothing happens.
Something is obviously wrong with my ipod, can someone please help me?! I'm extremely frusterated by this, it worked just fine, and i plugged it in to charge it and ever since then it hasn't been the same.

That shouldn't be happening.
IF you have an Apple Store within reasonable distance take it there for a replacement OR contact Apple:

my 2 nd generation ipod will not stay on an app for instance ghost radar classic stays on for a minute then goes to app store

Believe it or not the iPod can go for months on end without ever completely powering down. Sometimes it helps to simply reboot it like any computer.

  • My 2nd generation ipod nano wont stay charged

So yesterday I used my ipod to go for a run, and it was about halfway charged. I woke up this morning and it was all the way emptied. Im positive I had turned it off. So, i charged it, and it charged quickly to about halfway, and went for my run, and the battery quickly emptied down from the usual green color to the red color, so i went back to the house to charge it. I charged it for a longer time, and ended up charging it almost all the way, and then went out for a run, and the color quickly went down to the red again. I'm going to try charging it all night and see how it reacts in the morning, but im trying to see if anyone else has had the same issue.

You aren't giving an amount of time you charged it....you said "for a long time" but that isn't really saying much. Were you allowing it to charge for a couple of hours?

  • 2nd Generation iPod Nano Dead?

My 2nd generation iPod Nano was working fine this morning. Played music as it did for all these years. Later this afternoon I turned it on and the display would not light up. No music played. Seems like the battery is totally drained. Plugged into USB wall charger (from Apple) and get no indication whethr or not this thing is charging. Same when I plugged into my Mac. Does not show up in iTunes or on the desktop.
Is my iPod Nano Dead? Has the battery bitten the dust and cannot be recharged again? It's a shame that none of these iPods have user replaceable batteries... Other than being dead I am quite sure that if I could put in a new battery it would work again. I don't like spending a lot of money for something that does not last me at least 10 years.

If the iPod's battery has been fully drained it can at least 30 minutes or more of charging for the iPod to show any signs of life and even after that a hard reset might be required. To reset the Nano, press and hold both the Select?Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Do they still sell the 2nd generation ipod nanos ?

I was just wondering whether or not they still sell the 2nd generation ipod nanos. i live in Canada and ive been wanting a red ipod nano for ages...and my silver one is now starting to skip. i might as well get a new one seeing as my silver one has been through alot of rough times...
If they are still selling them, do they have the red ones in Canada? If so, where can i get one?

They have refurbs on the online store, but not the red. You might try stores in your area that sell iPods, ebay, or if you are near an Apple Store check the Black Friday sale.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch.  Lately the screen will not light up and also at times while typing it returns to the home screen (such as in facebook. Any suggestions?

Have you tried any of the usual 5 R's for troubleshooting.  See here for more information.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If none of those resolve the issue (including restoring the device back to factory defaults), the backlight issue is likely hardware related, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • My 2nd generation iPod Shuffle suddenly quit - Fix?

My 2nd generation iPod Shuffle suddenly quit on me just recently with no warning.
The lights indications say t has no music on it but connecting it to the computer shows the loaded tunes. I tried a full reset and reloaded the tunes but still no joy.
Further reading suggests either a dead logic board or a sick battery.
As a last resort I am wondering if anyone knows of a software approach before I get the tools out and start pulling it apart.

    I've found my own answer...
I was getting the green-orange-green-orange sequence of lights which all the info I had found to date said was the "No music" code. As I could see the MP3s on the iPod in iTunes I knew there was were MP3s on it.
Various knowledge seraches I did suggested adud battery or dead logic board - both terminal problems for this model unless you have spare parts ( which I do, courtesy of friends who have retired their Gen 2 iPods).
Then I found that under recent versions of iTunes (V 8 or later) it won't recognise podcasts or audio books as being present if you have the iPod set on shuffle.
I only ever listen to podcast and audio books on my Gen 2 AND had bumped the mode switch onto shuffle resulting in an apparently dead iPod. Put the  mode switch back to continuous and it's working again. Stupid !
I love Apple products  but I'm also a firm believer in the principle of "If it ain't broke don't fix it". All too often I seen Apple 'fix' something that wasn't broken over the 25 years I've been an Apple user.

  • I have a 2nd generation iPod....I have switch on the OFF position and it will periodically turn on (thus draining the battery) by itself.  How can I fix this?

I have a 2nd generation iPod shuffle.  Recently, after I turn switch to OFF position, it will turn on (green light flicks on) by itself periodically and obviously battery gets drained.  How can I fix this?

I don't know of a way to fix an issue with the switch, if it's a hardware issue.  You can try doing a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes, to see if there's some software glitch.
However, I often leave my shuffle with the power swtich in the ON position.  When you are not playing music, the shuffle goes into a "sleep" mode after about a minute.  You'll notice that you need to press the Play button twice to get it to play again; the first press wakes it up.  In my day-to-day experience, I don't notice any difference in battery life between the shuffle being OFF and ON (and not playing), even if I leave it ON overnight.  And keeping it ON avoids needing to constantly move the tiny swtich, and saves it from wear and tear.
So, you might try just keeping the power swtich in the ON position, and pausing playback to "turn it OFF."

  • 2nd Generation iPod ... Dock Connector??

I did some searching but was unable to find an answer. Is there some kind of device that will allow me to utilize dock connections (ie. hook up my iPod to my car stereo) on a 2nd generation iPod? Surely someone has developed a device which will allow older iPods w/o dock connections to hook up via firewire or the headphone jack...? Any suggestions would be great!

Surely someone has developed a device which will allow older iPods w/o dock connections to hook up via firewire or the headphone jack...?
I'm not too sure why it would be a high priority. Apple did not sell too many 1st and 2nd gen iPods compare to the later models with a dock connector.
On those older models with a FireWire port, there is no capacity for +audio out+ coming out of the FIreWire port on the iPod. It was just for the data connection (syncing). The only +audio out+ is from the headphone jack, which is the solution. Just get a cable with mini-stereo jacks on both ends or an adapter cable with (white/red) RCA connectors on one side (whichever connection is needed on the output device being connected to). You can buy such a cable at Radio Shack or any electronics store.
If that is not possible, what sound input connection is need for the device you have in mind?

    I have a 2nd generation Ipod.
I have it connected to my computer and see (my name) ipod on my screen.
Everytime I try to add a new song to the Ipod, this message comes up and I am not sure what to do:
The Ipod, (my name) is synced with another ITunes library on A74F65. Do you want to erase this Ipod and sync with this ITunes Library?
An Ipod can be synced with only one ITunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this IPod with the contents of this ITunes library.
Then it asks me if I want to delete and sync.
I am not sure what to do for fear of erasing everything I have put on my Ipod.
I would appreciate if someone could help me out.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to use iTunes to play the Music in your iPod but which is not in your itunes library. I don't think Apple design iTunes for use in your way. As to put and play music in iPod, the music has to be in iTunes first, so you play music in the iTunes music Library. the window with Ipod music is just to show you which music are already in the Ipod, in case you want to Manually Manage your huge music library.
Here is the iPod/iTunes manual from the Apple Support Site.

All my photos and videos from 5th gen. Ipod were all gone and there are some pictures that i really need as soon as possible. Is there a way i can i can get those photos and videos back? • ITunes is getting my brother's 2nd generation iPod mixed up with mine!

I got a 1st Generation iPod Nano for Christmas last year. It has been working great, and I've experienced few problems. For Christmas this year, my brother got the 2nd Generation iPod Nano. We both have seprate iTunes libraries in our seprate accounts on the computer. I was uploading songs from his library onto his iPod for him. As soon as iTunes said "Okay to disconnect" I did so, and then closed out of iTunes, logged off his account, and signed onto mine. I opened my iTunes, and plugged in my iPod, and where the summary of the iPod showed up, it said "Erich's iPod" instead of mine. I thought this was strange so I clicked it, and all of my brothers library was replacing mine on my iPod! I unplugged my iPod and checked it. It still had the name I had given it, but iTunes had it all mixed up. Is there anything I can do to make sure only my library is uploaded onto my iPod when i plug it in, and make sure that my iPod is recognized instead of my brother's?

  • 2nd generation Ipod nano not syncing?

My 2nd generation Ipod nano won't sync up with my Itunes library anymore after updating to Mountain Lion and the latest version of Itunes.  I plug it into the USB port on the laptop and the Ipod beeps and seems to be getting charged by the laptop but no sign of connectivity on Itunes.  I've also got an Ipod shuffle that I used just earlier today and it seemed to work fine with the same set up.  I'd like to switch back to using the Nano though and it seems to work fine other than Itunes not recognizing it now.  I know it's old but if it seems to work fine and i'd like to keep using it if I can sync it up.  Early 2011 15" Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.2.

I have unfortuantly had the exact same problem following my update to iTunes 11.
Incase someone explains the problem for me and not you, here is the link to my post. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4755057
Best of luck getting it to work!
