My 3/4g network is messed up I think

I have the 29.99 data plan and whenever I click on a certain website or app I want to look at the 3g goes out and won't come back on unless I restart my phone.. It pops in and out and it is DRIVING me insane.. I pay for something, I want it to work... Please help me

I understand that you want your data to work consistently on your phone. It looks like you have a Thunderbolt. A new software was just released 7/8 that addresses the issue with the phone losing data connection. If you haven't received the software update, you can search for it by going to Settings>Software Update. The software is being pushed out in batches. It may not show up as available until pushed to your phone. If you are still having this issue after the update, please respond and let me know.

  • ACL's messed up, I think

I recently made the mistake of using SuperDuper (great program, just not Leopard ready) to make backups of my system since that first week in November after installing 10.5. Since the sparseimages were getting created, and I wasn't getting error output, I thought all was well. Anyways, I wanted to muck with the partitioning schema, so I made a full backup and then formated my internal hard drive. I booted from dvd and mounted the image, and restored the image. This is when I discovered that super duper didn't have a valid backup, everything data wise was there, but the disk just wont boot no matter what. Anyways, I tossed a spare 500 gig esata disk on, and restored the image to the external disk. I then re-installed leopard to my internal drive and used the migration utility to migrate all of my real system into the new leopard install.
Somewhere along the way, the ACL's got jacked up. After getting the system back booting, a handful of system preference .kexts wouldnt load, Entourage couldn't get access to multiple identities (this is where I got the hint, as it straight out told me permissions were wrong the identities folder and to have a admin move the identities to a location with access. Firefox was all messed up as well. I should have just reinstalled and then just copied my ~ directory over (I thought) but I soon found that chown myusername:myusername (I am the admin too) on the identities folder recursively fixed the entourage, and I just went directory by directory changing ownership by sudo chown.
Anyways, today I noticed that my terminal history wasn't being created using history I got nothing, even after being at the cl for a hour or so.
I decided to sudo chown -R me:me ~, but I know this is not enough, as I cant save a pdf document I want to the symlink at the root of my system hard drive to User Guide and Information.
Also, diskutil repairPermissions /Volumes/myinternaldisk isnt fixing it, as a matter of fact I am getting some output from the command.
    septic-mbp:Library nicitaja$ sudo diskutil repairPermissions /Volumes/OSX
Started verify/repair permissions on disk disk0s2 OSX

I've searched and seen that the 10.5.1 update jacked up some permissions (people loosing write ability to items within their own Documents folder) and that said to run the 10.5.1 update manually after downloading it from apple's site manually (vs automated system update at the apple menu). But I didn't have that problem, so I didn't continue exploring those issues. (I have had to do this to a mac in the office where user lost those privileges)
Anyways, could someone give me some pointers on where to globally change owner ship.
I have a TON of macports and fink updates, and I have no problem globally changing ownership recursively on these folders because NO one but me uses them).
its the Mac specific folders I don't have experience with, the standard bsd linux file structure I have experience working with as well. I have no users on my system but me, if some one could save me the time from having to re-install every app into a fresh leopard install, I would be most appreciative.
I just located the User Guide and Information symlink in /Library/Documentation and the folder carried 755 permissions for some reason. I sudo chmod 775 to it and now (well you get the picture, I have the write bit now).
Again, any hints or at least a list of places I can change
    i.e.
/Library can be changed to username:username -R and wont mess anything up
    /Users .... .....
    Thanks

Boot to the Leopard install disk and from the Utilities menu select a user account that needs its ACL's reset.
Then select the reset option at the bottom.
It is done when there is a faded Done button at the bottom and you can select the hard drive and user name again and the reset button is available again.
This only resets the top levels of the user directories but you should be able to use the Get Info window to complete the changes by choosing to apply to enclosed items.

  • My MAC is running very slow and i am a complete novice and don't know what to do. i have had my Mac since 2008 and its probably in a mess. if you can help i would be grateful. EtreCheck version: 1.9.15 (52) Report generated 8 September 2014 09:09:26

My MAC runs very slow. Rainbow wheel every time i try to go somewhere. Im a complete MAC novice. Only really use it for iTunes and email. the odd document here and there. The odd spreadsheet. Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in  mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. HELP please, never ever used a forum light this either so please go gentle on me. Cheers Paul

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Setting up network with ATT Uverse, Time Capsule, and Airport Extreme..HELP

    PLEASE HELP!
I have ATT U-Verse which provides their own router. My Time Capsule is connected to the router (in the living room) via an Ethernet cable and has been working fine, and is set up like this:
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network (I joined the ATT network 2wire)
    Network name: 2wirexyz
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Channel: 5
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
When I try to add my Airport Extreme (for wireless printing in the office) by adding it to the same network (I've also tried to extend the network option) the Airport Utility thinks forever then comes up with an error and the Airport continues to flash amber. I've tried resetting the Extreme multiple times and configuring different ways but same result.
What am I doing wrong?? Please help, my wife is giving me grief for not being able to print wirelessly from her MacBook!!
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

    Thank you Tessarax....
So does that mean I need to create a separate wireless network? I apologize, I'm not extremely familiar with how to complete what you've suggested. I know I've seen the bridge mentioned before in the Airport Utility when I've been trying different things. Would you mind giving me some more specific instructions please? Actually I just tried messing around with Airport Utility, let me know if I'm headed in the right direction:
For TC wireless mode I want to "Participate in a WDS network"?
Then where does my WDS remote come from? is that the Airport Extreme? I've plugged in the AEBS but it's not showing up in the Airport Utility...
I'll mess around with it some more tomorrow morning. Thanks I'll let you know how it goes.

  • LMS 4.1 Network Topology Layer 2 view - Re layout map not working

I've finally got Topology Data Collection working on Prime LMS 4.1.
However, when I run Network Topology Layer 2 view and try and re-layout the view to any of the options, Circular, Hierarchical, Symmetrical or Orthogonal, the map never re-draws to that type of layout. It always stays as a mess.
I think it must be a 'feature'.
    Any ideas ?
    Cheers
    Barry

I searched again and didn't find any errors in the same line as the IP or Hostname of the unconnected switches. But I did notice that these switches and all of the devices upstream have "Discovery ani TopoSMFGenerateAbstractTopology" lines where the rest have "Discovery ani TopoSMFGenerateCdpTopology". Do I need to delete everything upstream to the seed device and then rerun a Data Collection? I've included the log. One of the unconnected switches is: 192.168.40.11 Display name: TC160_C. Thanks again.

  • Networking Problem Persists for 6+ Months

If anybody has any suggestions.... I'm all eyes and ears. I'd love to solve this problem.
4 Intel Macs in House. 3 have Airport Cards.
we have 1 Wireless Network (composed of 2 Extreme Base Stations, 1 Time Capsule Airport Base Station and 1 Airport Express (all 4 are "N" compatible and all the computers are theoretically "N" Compatible, but only 3 actually have a Airport Cards inside them. The MacPro Intel Tower DOES NOT HAVE an Apple Airport Card. I wanted one, but when we bought the machine in January 2008 (the week it came out) --- the Airport Card which is not supposedly User Installable --- had not shipped yet. Instead, I got a 3rd Party 802.11n/g/bWireless USB 2.0 Stick Adapter.
Now here is the problem. Assume File sharing is enabled on all 4 Computers... it is. Using Ethernet 1 connection on Mac Pro Intel Tower. I cannot see any other Computer on local Network. But every other computer came see me and transfer files either TO OR FROM MacPro Desktop. But If I connect to Wireless Network via the little USB Wireless N Adapter --- then I can see all other computers and they can still see me too. Transferring works in all directions, but no as fast as if I could use Ethernet. Little Adapter comes with a Wireless Utility Application that works in conjunction with Network Preferences. No Computer ever has problems connecting to Internet.
    Here is more info.
Home hardwired with Cat 5 and in garage we have 2Wire Wireless DSL Modem/Router. This is plugged directly into a Netgear Router and from there into a Switch and from the Switch to Many locations inside where there are RJ45 plugs in the walls.
    Here are some specific questions.
Can I while connected Wirelessly (via the little USB device) also select Connect via Ethernet in Network Preferences? Can I be simultaneously connected to both Wireless and Wired Network?
Can I plug an Ethernet Cable into the 2nd Ethernet Port on the back of the MacPro Intel Tower, and plug the other end into another RJ45 wall connection? Can I make both active simultaneously? And also be connected wirelessly. I'd prefer to be able to connect via Ethernet to the other 3 Computers because everytime I reboot etc I have to re-establish the wireless connection with the little USB stick.
Or just any suggestions PERIOD regarding how to make it so that the MacPro can use Ethernet and see the other 3 Computers (they see it perfectly, but it can't see anything but the Internet when connected via Ethernet.)
Thanking anyone ahead of time who has any suggestions.

Not sure if Netgear Router is Configured for Bridge Mode. I need to check on that.
But the 1st Apple Extreme Modem is configured in Bridge Mode -- Like Create a Network etc. (and allow it to be Extended.)
and the other 3 Apple Extreme things (2nd Extreme Airport, Time Capsule and "n" version of Express Modem are just Extensions of the First Airport.
and I don't know how to answer your question as to why we have the Netgear Router in the mix, but I'll try. It might be for logistic reasons (and to avoid seeing Cables)
The 2Wire is in a cabinet in garage and also in that cabinet is the Router and a 16 Port Netgear Switch and Wall Panel that has about 20 or 24 RJ45 ports.
When you asked the question about why have a Netgear Router in addition to the 2Wire, I looked on the back of the Netgear Router to see what was plugged into it.
There is a ethernet Cable that connects the 2Wire to the Netgear Router and then there is a another Cable that connects the Netgear Router to the Netgear Switch and then the Switch has 16 Cables going to the Wall Patch Panel Thing and those Cables are connecting us to the 16 locations in the house where we can plug into Ethernet.
If I didn't have the Netgear Router, I'm not sure how I would connect the 2Wire Modem to the Netgear Switch - the Switch I think is for the local network, but I don't think it has a plug so that we can get on the Internet. I'll have to go double check on that. It's a little hard to see the way things are plugged because the connections are at the back of the devices.
This "MESS" and tangle of cables did not happen at one moment in time. It kind of evolved over time. If we could start over, we would do things differently. Like for starters use Cat 6 in stead of plain Cat 5 for all the wiring we did. But we wired about 10 years ago and nobody even mentioned CAT 5e. And I'm not even sure CAT 6 existed 10 years ago and nobody mentioned that either.
    Anymore questions or suggestions?
    Thanks, spikey11

  • Macbook Internet Network Hacking (Help Please!)

Hi, Thanks for looking...  I am concerned that my apartment neighbor (a computer network engineer) might be trying to hack my Macbook and snoop around with my internet usage, and possibly access my Macbook remotely. Could someone please answer a few questions to ease my concerns please? (The Macbook is connected directly to the broadband modem and there is no wireless internet involved.)
// I suspect he might have gotten physical access to my broadband modem and seen it, is there any information on the modem itself that would give him access to my macbook and internet usage? (The modem says: cable RF MAC Address... and a serial number)
// How easy is it to hack a specific Macbook? Say if my neighbor was indeed a hacker, and wanted to mess with me for whatever reason, would it actually be possible to find out my internet IP address (could he hack the ISP?) to snoop around with how I use the internet? (The Macbook now has the firewall enabled and file sharing, etc. switched off.)
I know very little about this computer networking stuff, so I'm thinking the worst scenario is happening (which is hopefully far-fetched and exaggerated.) If anyone could help me by sharing their knowledge that would be an awesome help! Thanks!

Depending on the router, it may be very easy for him to hack it, whether he has seen it or not. If you believe this may have happened, see How to manage a hacked wireless router.
As for hacking the Mac, that's not a significant concern unless he has had unmonitored physical access to the machine. If he has, the only way to be sure he hasn't installed something to monitor you is to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch.
If he is able to get on the same network as you - which you should make sure to prevent by securing your wireless router - be sure everything in System Preferences -> Sharing is turned off. If you must have a service there turned on, be sure it can only be accessed using a strong password.

  • Manage-bde command is not generating recovery key on network location

    Hi,
I am trying to save the recovery key to the network share location and start up key in the USB drive while enabling bit locker. When the OS drive gets encrypted, the default folder for recovery password shows that it contains 1 file but not getting anything
inside it when i checked the properties of the folder.
i have already changed the group policy as "choose default folder for recovery password".
I am using the command to enable the bit-locker as "manage-bde.exe -on C: -rk
<network location to save recovery key> -sk <location of the USB drive>
-rp to enable the bit-locker. It is generating the start up key in the USB but not the recovery key on network share.
Can anyone suggest what i am missing or what else i should do to generate the recovery key on network share.
Does manage-bde process be able to save the recovery key on network share or it hand over to some other process to perform this task.
    Thanks
    Gaurav Ranjan

I got you Manoj, but I want to ask you one think that what if i lost the startup  key or my USB stick. I have my recovery key on the network share.  In order to log-in my machine I need the recovery password. From where i will get the recovery
password(48 digit). Surely from the recovery key on the network share. So how can i get the recovery password if only we have the recovery key.
I know both are different in context. Both are two different thing. I have lost my USB stick along with the recovery password and I have to log-in my machine. How can i do that i want to know that. Do there is any method to get recovery password from the
recovery key on network share. I have retrieved the recovery password when the recovery key in AD. But this time it is on network share.
Also one think which I need to solve is that the manage-bde -protectors -add command creates a new .bek file along with the older one. So the .bek file which get shown at the time of the start up of the machine is different from that stored in the network.
So i am getting confused as which .bek file is for which machine and hard to retrieve the password.
Is there any method to store recovery key on network without the -protectors -add command line so that both the .bek file should be matched and can easily be known for indiviual machine in an OU. As if both the .bek files will be different it would be difficult
to to retrieve the recovery password for the machines.
Please do inform if you need some more information about the scenario if i missed something.
    Thanks
    Gaurav Ranjan

  • How to find SSID and Network Key to setup wireless printer to iMac?

It is easy to find your "SSID" and "Network Key" once you understand what you are looking for. Here is what worked for me when I setup a new wirless printer today:
    1) SSID = Your Network Name
    Ex. Jason's Wi-Fi Network
    Ex. Harry's Lounge
First way to find: on an iMac, go to the top bar on the right side and click on the "wireless symbol". You will see a list of all the wireless networks your computer is picking up. The one you are connected to (if you are able to surf the Internet) is the name you enter when asked for the SSID.
NOVICE HINT: This is the equivalent to walking into a Starbucks and logging onto their wi-fi via their "network name," which has the word Starbucks in it. Some network names will have have locks next to them, meaning they are "secured by a password" and some will not, meaning anyone can access this "free" wi-fi. This doesn't matter either way, it just helps with making sure you have located the list. Of course, it is also possible, if you live in a remote area, that only your network name will show up.
Second way to find: on an iMac, go to the apple symbol in the upper left corner of computer and make sure it says "finder" (if it doesn't, just click on your desktop and it will show up), then select:
go > applications > utilities > Airport Utility > double-click on the image of the AirPort Extreme and the network name will be listed
    2) Network Key = Password used to access your Wi-Fi Network
    Ex. BMXGuy456!
    Ex. Millionare$!!!
This is the password you created when you setup your wireless network, meaning it may not (and should not be for better security purposes) the same password as you use for your Apple ID, email etc.
NOVICE HINT: So if for example a friend came to stay with you and wanted to connect to your "secured wifi" meaning there is a lock next to it, you would give them this password.
    EXTRA INFO:
Why do I need this info anyway?
Because just like anyone who wants to use your wifi when they come over, the printer needs to understand what to connect to, therefore it basically needs the network name to know "WHAT" to connect to, and the "PASSWORD" in order to access that network.

After much stumbling around, I also discovered this answer. I picked up the 2270DW used, without disc or manual, so downloaded what I needed from the Brother site, but the Brother Mac OSX instructions feel as if they're written by a non-Mac user. I am on OSX 10.7.5, using an Airport wireless unit in Bridging mode (because I have to use a provider's router at the front end of my setup). But once I picked my Airport network name through the Brother Wireless Setup Utility and then typed my network name in the SSID box and my network password in the Network Key box ("es" --- I think the "network key - i.e. password" had to be confirmed a second time) after waiting for the utility to process the information, it worked like a charm.

  • I have Fios. I have the TC connected via ethernet to the Fios router. TC WAN port ethernet to Fios Lan port. Then I just have the TC create a wireless network that is different than the Fios wireless network. How do I set up an Airport Extreme to the TC?

The Airport Extreme is a 4th Gen unit. I just want to keep the TC wireless name to go further through my house.

The Ethernet connection will be from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme.
Then you can use AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to configure the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Click the Wireless tab located just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network (Not "extend a wireless network" as many users incorrectly think)
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your TC network
No check mark needed next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Radio Mode = Automatic
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the TC network
Wireless Password = Same setting as the TC network
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and restart the entire network
Computers on the TC network will now be able to move to the area where the AirPort Extreme is located and not have to "switch" networks. This is known as a "roaming" network.

  • 2 macs on the same network with the same name?

I have 2 macs running the latest version of Tiger on the same computer-to-computer network. Are there any potential issues if both computers are named the same when connecting them on this network? I didn't think about this before naming them and I just want to check now before I spend lots of time installing software and customizing them. Should I change the name of one of them?
    Thanks!!!

Are there any potential issues if both computers are named the same when connecting them on this network?
Yes. First there is the human confusion factor. You won't know which machine you are really connecting to across the network. Sometimes Mac OS X and other software will get confused as to which machine you are referring to when you use the name by itself.
You should give them individual names even if it is something as simple as adding a digit (i.e. Mac1 and Mac2).
I just want to check now before I spend lots of time installing software and customizing them.
Changing the computer name should have zero effect on that.

  • Wireless Time Capsule Backup on Separate Network

    Hi Everyone,
I work in a office building that requires a colleague and I to use a wireless network all ready set up throughout the building. We are not able to access the hub of this network and there are no hard-lines though the office space.
We would like to backup two Mac's to a 3TB Time Capsule wirelessly.
Because we can not run the existing network thru the Time Capsule and use the Time Capsule as a router as well as a backup device for our computers, how do we set up the Time Capsule to wirelessly back us up?
I am assuming that I will need to create a unique network on the Time Capsule and whenever we want to back up we will need to log off of our wireless network, connect wirelessly to the Time Capsule, perform a backup, then return back to the wireless network in the office to get back on the internet.
Is this correct or can I set up Time Machine to stay connected to the Time Capsule wirelessly to run regular backups and leave the computer connected wirelessly to the office network?
I will be backing up two MBP's with Retinas and both have Mountain Lion. The Time Capsule is not yet purcahse so I assume it will be the newest one.
    Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the reply. I have another option.
We are also given TIM MiFI devices which have unlimmited data plans and often work better than the built-in network and are very fast a 42.2 Mbps. I acutally find myself using this network more often than the built in wireless network.
TIM MiFi as I understand it is 3G.. I presume you are joining to it as a hot spot??
If you join the TC to it as a hot spot, yes you can do that.. hold down the option key when you select wireless mode and you can join.. but that places the TC in the wireless network of the hotspot.. your high speed connection will drop by at least half due to double hop wireless.. ie 42mbps becomes 20mbps..
Also most hotspot should be setup to prevent this. They are not designed to work as a network but as a internet access to public who should not have access to other computers.. Try it btw .. see if you can transfer files between your two macs with both connected to the hotspot.. I doubt it will be possible.
Am I able to connect to this wifi network with the TC (I think this is called client or bridged mode) and then connect my computer through the TC? Or for that matter, what about connecting to the office wireless in the same way?
You can join the TC to the office wireless network. The TC is then available to every tom dick and harry in the building. Although you can password the access.. do you want it available to whole world?? Passwords I think are passed in the clear.. for AFP.. might be wrong but security is not great.
It will also halve the speed.. same as above. due to double hop wireless.. it will reduce your network speed to nothing for as long as the backup is happening. And you cannot connect to the TC wireless.. it is not able to repeat the wireless network, unless it is an Apple router that is providing it.. which is doubtful.

  • Mac can no longer find the network NAS

For some reason I can no longer see my NAS when connected to my home network. I go to work and see other computers just fine. It's kind of infuriating.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Mad Clan
    Welcome to the discussions.
You provide very litte information, which leaves us guessing. Please try to be as elaborate as possible in your answers.
First of all: Check the power of the device. You won't believe in how many cases this was the simple solution for my own issues.
Second: Assuming, the NAS is not connected wirelessly: Check the network cables. To be absolutely sure, replace the one connecting the NAS to your network.
What does your home network look like? Do you have a router seperate from your internet connection (meaning you're having two boxes)? Do you connect wirelessly?
What NAS product do you use? Please provide brand and modelname. Did you just take it out of the box and it just worked or did you have to configure network settings?
Can you think of a reason you don't longer see the NAS? Was there a power outage, did you add a new device to the network (if only temporarily, please mention it), had you someone accessing your network who doesn't live in your house, did you update your computer or the router?
All these questions potentially lead to different steps needed to be taken.
    Kind regards

  • HP LASERJET 4000 PARALLEL PRINTER - CONNECT TO NETWORK

I have a HP LaserJet 4000 printer with parallel interface currently connected to a desktop computer (WIN 7) via hardwire connection.  I have a wireless home network with another desktop and several laptops that I would like to be able to print to this printer, preferably via a wireless interface.  Does anyone know if this is possible and if so what it would take in additional hardware.  Even though this printer is no longer sold, in terms of usage it is still new, on the first toner cartridge!
    thanks

Can you elaborate as I'm not that tech savvy but have a similar issue.  I have an HP Laserjet 2100M that I love as a "workhorse" printer.  I previously had this printer and an Epson Stylus Photo R800 "networked" so I could print to either from my MAC.  I recently moved from CT to FL and would like to replicate the network.  In retrospect, I think my network was facilitated by the HP printer being connected directly to an old PC which must have been like the printer server you described.  The old PC did not move to FL so I now have a MAC, a cable modem, an Airport router and a new PC laptop that I would like to connect.  Plus, I'm looking to buy an all-in-one to have the functionality that I had before the move (a separate fax machine and an HP printer-scanner-copier that also didn't make the move.  (As an aside, I was looking at the HP 8600 to buy and was concerned as it doesn't say it supports Windows 8 so I have to find something else.)
Sorry for beng so longwinded but I'm at a loss for which direction to go and recognize I'm in over my head but beleive what I want to do can be done (I just don't kow how)

  • Network printing and Indesign cs3

Since updating to 10.5.3 network printing has not worked with indesign cs3. We are now using 10.5.4.
It worked with 10.4.x on the same network. I don't think the printer or the printer driver is the problem but if it matters we are using an hp deskjet 940c. Driver for the printer was updated in February when we purchased the macbook pro we are using.
I've read a bunch of stuff on this and given that it works in 10.4.x with the same printer, drivers, and application program, I'm forced to conclude the problem lies in the OS which is the only difference.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.

    Hello Rich,
Can you explain how the printer is networked. Is it shared by another or does it have its own ip address? (Don't know the model so sorry for the question)
If it is a standalone networked printer, what connection method (protocol) do you use for the printer queue?
Are you able to print from other applications?
Can you post the last 10 entries of the cups error log. You can find this by opening the printer queue, clicking the work Printer in the menu bar and selecting 'Log & History'.
