My 30 gig I pod stays on - intermittent

I read the forum looking for my problem but can't find it. I have had a 30 gig I pod and had no problems with it up until about a month ago. When I finish listening either thru buds or the car I hit pause and the I pod usually takes about a minute then the screen goes dark at it shuts which is normal. But sometimes I hit pause and it never shuts, the backscreen goes dim but the last menu looked at stays and if I forget and leave it overnight it ***** the battery down. Any help?

thx

Aside of using crappy FAT32 with its 4GB limitation or the not really better ExFAT, there are two alternative ways:
Enable your Mac to "understand" Windows NTFS.
There also at least two ways. MacFuse/ntfs-3g for the more experienced user ( http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/ ) or Pargon's NTFS for Mac ( http://www.paragon-software.com ) for the not so experienced.
Enable your Windows machine to "understand" Mac's HFS+ filesystem. on a similar way.

I've gone to that web site and it worked, i-tunes knews its an i pod and not a USB and i can put all my songs and pod casts on there but then when i want to use the ipod the screen is still completly white. and then when i re-plug it back into the computer it doesnt recognise it again. Do you think that i should send it into Apple and get them to fix it? my ipod is still under warrenty. but my ipod has a cracked screen and the hold butten has fallen out. but the screen broke before my ipod started playing up, do you think Apple will still replace it or fix it that its under warenty but has a broken screen and no hold butten?

  • Why have I lost over 1gig on my 8 gig I pod and can I reset my pod and not lose any of my app's

    Help

Some is used for the ipod operatig system.  The rest is due to the reporting method.  The same is true of your computer and most any other device.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte
    Consumer confusion
Since the early 2000s most consumer hard drive capacities are grouped in certain size classes measured in gigabytes. The exact capacity of a given drive is usually some number above or below the class designation. Although most manufacturers of hard disk drives and flash-memory disk devices define 1 gigabyte as 1000000000bytes, software like Microsoft Windows reports size in gigabytes by dividing the total capacity in bytes by1073741824, while still reporting the result with the symbol "GB". This practice is a cause of confusion, as a hard disk with an advertised capacity of, for example, "400 GB" (meaning 400000000000bytes) might be reported by the operating system as only "372 GB". Other software, like Mac OS X 10.6[3] and some components of the Linux kernel[4] measure using the decimal units. The JEDEC memory standards uses the IEEE 100 nomenclatures which defines a gigabyte as 1073741824bytes (or 230 bytes).[5]
The difference between units based on SI and binary prefixes increases as a semi-logarithmic (linear-log) function—for example, the SI kilobyte value is nearly 98% of the kibibyte, a megabyte is under 96% of a mebibyte, and a gigabyte is just over 93% of a gibibyte value. This means that a 300 GB (279 GiB) hard disk is indicated only as 279 GB. As storage sizes increase and larger units are used, this difference becomes even more pronounced. Some legal challenges have been waged over this confusion such as a suit against Western Digital.[6][7] Western Digital settled the challenge and added explicit disclaimers to products that the usable capacity may differ from the advertised capacity.[7]
Because of its physical design, computer memory capacity is a multiple of base 2, thus, memory size at the hardware level can always be factored by a power of two. It is thus convenient to use binary units for non-disk memory devices at the hardware level, for example, in boards using DIMMmemory. That is, a memory capacity of 1073741824bytes, for example, is conveniently expressed as 1 GiB as opposed to 1.074 GB. Software applications, however, allocate memory in varying degrees of granularity as needed to fulfill data structure requirements and binary multiples are usually not required. Other computer measurements, like storage hardware size, data transfer rates, clock speeds, operations per second, etc., do not depend on an inherent base, and are usually presented in decimal units."

  • I-Pod Stays Saying 'Do Not Disconnect.'

I can get it off by just clicking eject through i-tunes but still every time i connect it to my pc i always have to disconnect it manually, so basically it never says that it is safe to disconnect it and i fear it might corrupt it or something. i have have tried all the methods explained on this website etc. but none have workeed. thanks if you can help.

If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • My I-pod mini stays on when my computer turns off.

    Hey there,
I'm sort of new to the whole i-pod scene. I'm not sure if this happens to other people or not. I did a quick search on the forums and didn't see anything like this.
Basically what happens is, I connect my i pod mini to my computer. but if i turn my computer off and leave my ipod mini connected, the i pod stays on (although the back light will turn itself off) and in a short while the battery is completly dead. So I have to charge it again. I know the simple solution is to simply disconnect the i pod mini, but I think it should turn itself off should it not? I always forget to disconnect it and then the battery is drained and i have to wait an hour or so for the thing to charge again.
Is there any patch to fix this?
My psu is an enermax 600w noisetaker
my mobo is the asus a8v deluxe
I only listed these to components as I feel they are the only 2 relevant to my problem (if they have any relevancy at all)
    Thanks for any help guys!
    Pat

Maybe you missed this part of my post.
"Your computer cannot charge the iPod battery whilst it's switched off."
If you leave it connected to your computer without switching it off, then the battery will drain. A computer that is powered off cannot charge the iPod battery. The exception is on some Macs that can charge the battery whilst in "sleep" mode.
And when you say "it's not doing anything" is the 'do not disconnect' screen still displayed? If it is, the iPod is switched on and the battery is draining.
Before powering off your computer, disconnect the iPod and switch it off.

  • A Blue Screen of Death With My 3rd. GEN Pods

I hope someone has the patience to help
me out with a Pod-related question; your assistance would be immeasurable.
    In 2003 I purchased both a 30-GIG and a 20-GIG i-Pod,
both of course with the functions located just below the
screen, not on the scroll wheel (I think both models
    are 3rd Gen. Pods).
    In 2005 I bought a 60-GIG i-Pod with photo and have
since relegated the 20 and 30-GIG models to
    non-use.
At this current juncture, though, I am within 20 or so
songs of having filled up my 60-GIG with songs and,
rather than spend more $$ n the new 80-GIG model (I
have an external hard drive that has stored more than
90% of my tunes), I would like to restore either the
20-or 30-GIG models and place new songs on it/them.
The problem: After taking the 20-GIG out of mothballs
and fully charging it at a i-Pod dock connected to a portable speaker system last weekend (Altec Lansing), I then placed it on the dock connected to my computer. After almost a minute, my screen turned blue and a statement appeared: Your computer is being shut down to prevent serious damage to your system, or something to that effect.
Being the trooper, I restarted my computer and then proceeded to try my fortunes with the 30-GIG
(same process for charging as mentioned above), and
once more, upon its being placed on the computer dock,
I got the same "blue screen of death" and same
    warning.
In both cases, I had to restart my computer and to of
course, remove the Pods from the dock.
The blue screen contained this information:
"Page fault-in; nonpaged area; .0x00000050 ntfs.sys. If problem continues, disable/remove any newly installed hardware/ software."
Does anyone know why my computer is resistant to the
earlier model Pods but not to either an i-Pod MIni
that I got from a friend over this summer or to my
60-GIGer? It is the same computer I used to load the
songs that currently exist on these two early models
(Windows XP has replaced Windows 2000, if that means
anything). The computer is a Compaq Presario.
Again, my sincere thanks for taking the time to read
    and reply.
    Greg

Have you tried to connect your iPod with other computer? Does it has the same problem?
] Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Stolen i pod

is there a data base somewhere, where you can input model numbers of stolen i-pods. I just got done doing a show at a hotel in NY, and one of the hotel staff went through our stuff and stole two i pods along with some other things. I know you have to sync them for them to work, and if there is a way for that to be disabled b/c of the i pod being stolen it would be great. They were both 30 gig I pod video's.

No there is no way for it to be disabled. Just report it to the police and the hotel management.

  • Playing I-pod with another computer

I have an 80 gig i-pod and i-tunes on my home computer. I bought an i-pod docking station for work. Since it is a work computer it does not have i-tunes on it. It does have windows media player. When I hooked up my i-pod it had the do not dissconnect screen on. What is the problem? Or did I just waste $60.00?

Reformatting the iPod from an application other than iTunes or the iPod Updater will disable its capacity to act as a standalone music player. Music sent to the iPod from Windows Media Player will not be recognized as music by the iPod, and the Windows Media Player will not see music synced to the iPod from iTunes.
The money you spent on the docking station has probably been wasted.

  • I pod video help

I have the 60 gig i pod and when i put my converted movies onto it it plays the movie for 30 seconds then locks up and the sound goes away and keeps playing . I am very frustrated right now and help could be used thank you

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • 18.53 gig ipod??

i have a twenty gig i pod but all my music was erased and i restored it to factory settings. when i plug it to itunes it says i have 18.53 gigs free !!! Is that normal. is my hard drive messed up? shouldnt it have 20 gigs free if it is an empty ipod??? let me know

All hard drives never have the full advertised storage space, and as a general rule it's around 7% less than stated.
It's because hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive space different than computers actually read it.
For a full technical explanation, see these.

Been having the same problem with my new 4G Nano, the computer just wont recognise it, but my old Ipod is fine.
But by chance i had a USB memory stick in the other USB port and the Nano suddenly shows up on my desktop and iTunes 7!! Still won't work without a memory still plugged in as well. But I can at least get music onto it now.

  • COMMON CONVERTING PROBLEM "PLEASE HELP"!!

Hello fellow Ipod owners, I just purchased a 30 gig I pod video today. I currently have approximately 1100 songs. Itunes is only converting 460 songs. I have the same problem Tabs has. I have noticed that any songs I downloaded from other sites are not converting to itunes. Can someone please please help. email me, my email address is [email protected] Thanks :~)

The "Do Not Disconnect" screen will continue to stay displayed on your iPod, simply because you either have Disk Use enabled, or you are manually managing your iPod's songs.
If you are automatically syncing songs to your iPod, then disable disk use.
    For more info, see this:
    Enabling Disk Use for iPod
If you are manually managing your iPod's songs, then you will have to eject it from your computer before unplugging it to make it safe to disconnect.
