My 30g ipod video just hanged...

i just hope that there are people out there who can help me...i was listening to my ipod....and all of a sudden it stopped..i thought i jst accidentally pressed the pause button or lessen the volume..but as i checked it i saw that the ipod is still on play but the timer is not changing...and i cant even turn it off...i tried to connect my ipod to m laptop..but the computer cant detect my ipod which is the first time it happened...and after connecting it to the laptop..the ipod screen doesnt show the charging display and it still shows the display like it was playing a song....please can someone help me...

Have you tried holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset the iPod?

30g iPod Video with Dead Hard Drive

Whoops... dropped my fancy 30g iPod Video while watching something. Now I have a nice paper weight.
I want to manually exchange the Hard Drive. I have the old one in my hands, but can't seem to get the exact same model. I CAN however find different sizes of various hard drives.
My question is simple: Is my 30g iPod locked to 30g? or can I pick up a 60g Toshiba Hard Drive? 80g? 160g?
I've done some searching and I can't seem to find the answer to this question. I've found people who have replaced with 'similar' hard drives (30g Toshiba for 30g), but haven't found word on restictions.

Check here, http://www.ifixit.com/Products/iPod-5th-Gen/95 . You should be able to put a bigger drive in you just need to order the correct reat case since it will be fatter.

Most of the movies I have are around 450 mb. So for a 30 gig iPod you should get around 60 movies. I use Handbrake to rip movies for the iPod on my mac and Cucusoft to rip them on my XP machine. The size is user selectable and averages around 400 to 500 mb.

Can't upload TV Shows to new 30g iPod Video

We just purchased the new iPod Video (30g) and in Windows XP, iTunes 7 all of the songs and music videos uploaded. However, none of the TV Shows uploaded.
Any ideas?

The only other thing I can think of is listing the past history:
1. Had an iPod Mini before and older version of iTunes.
2. Purchased the TV Shows before buying the new iPod Video
3. Upgraded to iTunes 7 and then sync'd to new iPod.

Could the older iPod be the problem here? Are the shows flagged as not being available to upload to the new iPod?

30g Ipod Video keeps rebooting

I just got the new Itunes 9.0 and synced my Ipod video as usual, but now it just keeps rebooting and is stuck on the black screen with the white apple.
I have tried (twice) going into disk mode, and restoring the Ipod, but it still has the same issue. I have also tried plugging it into a wall charger.
Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advanced!

probably the next best thing to try is attempting to reset it while it is connected to a power source (like the PC). see:

Can someone help me? I have a video file i converted to the proper format for my ipod and I was able to transfer it to the ipod, but when I try to play it on the ipod all I get is a black screen and no sound and after about 30 seconds it goes back to the menu.

I think it might need to be converted again...
If you used iTunes's option to "Convert to iPod" it might not have worked properly (iTunes is limited in the types of files it can work with). You might want to try Googling iPod Video Converter, downloading and installing a third party program, running the file through that, and then trying it on the iPod again.
I've used Videora in the past and have had some decent results with it.

Solar chargers for 30G iPod Video

Has anyone had any experience using any of the small solar chargers on the market that state they work with iPods. Most of them state that they are useable with iPods but I think they all are tested with the Nano or Mini only, and I'm wondering if they may be a little substandard when used with the larger iPods. Also if anyone has electronic knowledge, can you tell me how to decipher the electronic specs that are listed for them, and which one may be the best one to get. They all list specs differently, and I don't know which ones are important.

Ipod video just stopped working

My 30g video ipod has been docked in a lansing charging station for several months. It had been working great until I decided to upgrade it with new tunes I had downloaded. Some of the tunes were from emusic but transfered without any trouble. I updated itunes and plugged the ipod into my computer. After I updated it and itunes had the "safe to disconnect",I still had the "do not disconnect" on my ipod screen. I turned the computer off and then disconnected the ipod. It just froze. I then reset it twice and it froze both times. Then I did a restore but now it is stuck on the "language" screen and won't play at all. When I try to go thru the menu it just freezes. Before the restore I got the message that my ipod was corrupted. It is frozen on the language screen. I have tried restoring it 3 times now but it is just frozen. And, there appears to be faint blue streaks in the screen. I did the "5 R's" and have tried everything. What is wrong? My ipod is about 2 years old. Help!

It could be as easily a bad battery. Bad Batteries have been known to give bad signals to the logic board. You can try to replace the battery. That is the biggest thing that I see.

30G Ipod Video, exchange for defect, now new problem

I had a 30G video Ipod, audio jack was defective, apple store gave me a new one. Problem is, the new ipod will only download itunes playlists (752 songs/audio books) but will not download the library, 1152 total songs. Ipod 800 # was not helpful after downloading any updates and wiping out ipod to factory settings.
I am about to toss this thing in the trash!!! How do I get the songs from the itunes library onto the ipod? They are NOT purchased but burned, and I got them on the old 30G. I am using windows XP, fujitsu N series new lifebook.

Have you checked the iPod options in iTunes to make sure it is set to sync all songs and not just playlists? When the iPod is connected CTRL-click on the iPod icon, and select "Options". Make sure the sync settings are as you want them.

My 30G iPod Video Is Dead.

Hi everyone,
Well, let me first of all start with the story, I was at a pool party, and I had my iPod with me, along with a device to make the iPod listenable to on the radio. [My Mom picked this up for me, it was made by Belkin I believe.]
Anyway, some of my friends were fooling around, and I actually got pushed into the pool when I wasn't expecting it, and I had my iPod and my cellphone in my pocket. My cellphone works today, it just had to dry out, and my iPod still works to an extent. It will respond when plugged into my iHome Alarm/Radio thing, and when plugged into my Computer. It powers up, with the apple logo, then goes to the sad face icon, then after a few minutes, restarts the process.
Yes, I have tried resetting, and Yes I have tried Restoring, Yes I have tried to set it to Disk Mode. None of this works. So, is my iPod completely shot from the water? But I wouldn't think so, because my cellphone would be shot too. What do you all suggest?
Oh, I tried running the new Video Updater, and it said that one of the Configuration files could not be read? =[

All you can do is leave it somewhere warm and dry for a week or two to dry completely. Do not try to turn it on or charge it during this time - you are very likely to do more damage (if you haven't already).
After this period of time, try running the five Rs. With a little (or a lot of) luck, it may come back to life.

Error message when trying to put videos on my 30G ipod video

Every time I try to put videos from iTunes onto my ipod I get an error message saying that the video "could not be copied onto "Brennen's Ipod" because it cannot be played on this iPod".

Thumbnails on 30g ipod video

ok, so i put all the art work on the songs in itunes, but i cant seem to get 'em to appear on the ipod, only some of them do..... help.....

To answer the first comment, they are checked, and the iPod tries to play all the songs. But it gives up on every other song and plays the next one. (I can see the info for the skipped song come up on the display for a second or two before it moves on).
More info:
All these songs will play on the iPod if I access them directly. All of them will eventually play if I mess with the Fwd/Back buttons enough. All of them play correctly on iTunes.
Much of my library was originally encoded in lossless WMV, Monkey's Audio and FLAC. I used third party tools to re-encode to Apple Lossless.
This morning I specifically tested an album that I ripped and encoded with iTunes. This album works fine. The other albums (originally encoded with other formats) have problems.
So I tried the following: I re-encoded an Album with iTunes that had been encoded with my other tools. Now it works.
This is annoying! This is an open standard! the iPod has problems with songs encoded to Apple Lossless via two other encoders! This points to something fishy about the iTunes encoding process! Anyone know any details?
So now I have to:
a) Figure out what songs were encoded viaa iTunes and which were not.
b) select those albums and re-encode.
c) DELETE just the old files (I have used 80% of my disk anyway!
This is so annoying.

Reset it. Method varies by model. So look it up on the apple web pages. If it won't reset let the battery drain, put it on charge and try again after it has been fully charged.

30G Ipod video frozen

I hope someone can help me my ipod has frozen it shows "Do Not Disconnect". The battery is full and the hold padlock is shown in the top left corner. I have tried a reset and nothing happens?
Can somene tell me what I need to do?

Ok, I am useless with the whole ipod thing, but that exact thing happened my within the first week of my new 30g. What I did was let the ipod drain its battery over night and when it was dead, I pluged it into my laptop and it worked ( i.e. wasn't frozen on the "do not disconnect" anymore), but not too well, so in itunes I restored factory settings and then had to start downloading from the beginning (not to bad for me as only a week old and everything still in library)
Would drain it anyway and see how you go
