My 30GB iPod display screen stays lit when in the cradle

Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 7.0, my iPod (running vers. 1.2) display screen stays lit (albeit at what seems to be half-luminance). It never used to do this. It is powered (and upgraded) via one of the USB ports - as opposed to a FW port.
Is this now normal? Is tere a way to disable this function? Or do I even need to disbale this and instead just not worry about it?
thanks
Theo

Mine does the same, and I've heard that other people are seeing the same thing. I'm not too concerned about it.

  • Lock screen stays lit in pocket when playing music

When I am playing music and listening through my headphones, my lock screen stays lit. This happens if I, for example, check the time with the lock screen on and put it back in my pocket. If I don't click the hold button to manually turn off the screen, it stays lit in my pocket until manually turned off.
This also happens if I use a voice command through my headset. After using this feature, I notice that my phone will stay lit on the lock screen until I manually shut it off by hitting the lock button.
I called apple care and they told me to reset all settings, which I tried. I also started this phone as a new phone, not from a back-up of my previous 3G.
I am not sure if this is also what is contributing to my battery life, or lack there of.

mgsone, you can try to restore you iPhone 4 using iTunes. It'll wipe it and restore it and re-sync everything back on. This has fixed various issues such as battery charge/life and various bugs. It doesn't hurt to try. But please make sure you backup your iPhone 4 before you do so. All within iTunes.

  • Satellite A200 screen stays black when trying to boot

    Hello everyone,
My Toshiba Satellite A200 notebook is not working anymore, so everything started when I was playing a game, suddenly, the screen turned blue with some tiny text written on it. I had to hold the power button a few seconds to close it because nothing was happening on the computer. I then pressed the power button to open it. Everthing was going well, until the welcome screen. At this part, it was written "Welcome" but the Vista loading circle left of it wasn't turning.
After a few seconds, I decided to close the computer again, so I did hold the power button so the computer closed. Here is the problem : I tried to reopen it, but the screen stayed black. Nothing was happening. The power light was blue, but not any computer activity. So I let it like that a few minutes then closed it and tried again, but the same thing happened. I tried to disassemble it and noticed one of the two memory card wasn't fully in its slot. I fixed it, but it didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to plug another screen on it, but that one was also black. So I put back the screen on its computer and tried to boot my laptop and it worked. It was booting, but the first problem came back, the Welcome screen was frooze there. So yes I did close it again and then the same thing happened, the screen stayed black.
I don't think the problem is the screen because as I said sometime it goes to the welcome screen. Also I don't hear any welcome sound when the screen stays black as if the computer would simply not start up. And as I said earlier, I don't see any computer activity on the little light in front of the computer. And left of this one, I clearly see that the computer is ON because the power light is blue.
So this is my problem, next time the computer manages to start up I'll try to boot it on the SAFE MODE, but until then, I don't know what to do. Please, help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    MrRoy
    EDIT :
After letting the computer turned off for about 30 minutes, I started it, and booted in safe mode. At this step, I securely closed my comptuer with the shut down button instead on holding the power button. Then I reopened my computer, and it booted and the problem was fixed. Now my notebook is openened and working.
So if this is happening to you :
    1. Shut down you computer.
    2. Wait for about 30 minutes.
    3. Boot in safe mode
    4. Shut it down using the shut down button istead off holding the power button.
    That should work.

Finally, it doesn't work. I don't know why but my computer did start up after the 30 minutes, but now it's not working anymore. It just won't startup like I said later, with a black screen.
The computer did work for about half an hour. I mean, I managed to start it up but after executing a program, it just froze and I had to hold the power button to restart it. I did it about 3 or 4 times, then it simply did the black screen again. I think the problem is my processor, maybe it's damaged or something, could it be possible?
Because I see that the processor isn't working when I try to start it up.
So let's say it's damaged, would that be the symptoms of my computer?
And if it's the processor, the only way to fix it is to send it to a reparator or something, because I don't feel like it, I'd rather do it myself.
But right now, my computer is simply not booting, like I said in my previous post.
    Thanks in advance,
    MrRoy

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

but you can't lengthen it unfortunately.

  • Is it possible to have the "lock screen" stay lit up while I am charging my iPhone 4S?

Is is possible to have the "lock screen" stay lit up, and not go dark, while I am charging my iPhone 4S?  I would like to turn off the sounds and vibrate but still be able to see the clock and see if any new messages come in.
Also, is there a setting or an app that will turn off all my sounds and vibrate at a given time, say 10pm and then turn it back on at 7am?

    No and no.

  • Does the retina display help your eyes when on the computer?

Does the retina display help your eyes when on the computer for a long period of time? Does it make a difference if you have eye problems?

First, I'd suggest posting your question on the MacBook Pro forum. This is the Mac Pro forum, where the computers start at 50 pounds and go up from there (at least so far).
Second, I think it depends on what your eye problems are. I can say that there's a lot less reflection off the screen than the standard MacBook Pro glossy screen; it's similar to the anti-glare screens that you can find on other Mac laptops. The Retina display also has the ability to present a much crisper image with compatible software.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Sleep Display not staying asleep when encoding video

    Hello,
I am looking for a way to turn the display off and KEEP it off with applications running as normal, until I want to wake it up. It is not always staying asleep.
I have a hot corner set up so that I can instantly turn my iMac display off (including the backlight). This works fine most of the time, but when running certain applications, activating sleep display works for a few seconds then stops working and the screen comes back to life.
Example applications which cause this are iTunes when encoding a video (e.g. converting a movie to iPod format), iSquint when encoding video, iDVD when encoding and burning a DVD - seems to be anything that makes heavy use of the processor.
I have tried all sorts of things to get around this:
    1. setting the sleep display timer to 1 minute in the Energy Saving settings
    2. 3rd party application and widget "Sleep Display" (http://linestreet.googlepages.com/home) which claims to make the display go to sleep and STAY asleep, suggesting "This version may work for people who experienced the monitor going off then coming right back on" - which indicates that it's not just me having the problem. This "Sleep Display" application doesn't work with Leopard though; the author acknowledges this and suggests he will update it if he upgrades to 10.5
    3. different application - http://www.imalc.com/Site/SleepDisplay.html - this does the same as the hot corner and wakes up within a few seconds
    4. sleep display tool in Dockables - same problem
    5. "shades" system preference add-on, this makes the screen black and keeps it black but doesn't turn the backlight off
    6. tried hiding the offending application, moving it to another space - nothing seems to work!
    7. covering the imac with clothes - not ideal!
    Thanks for your help!
    Jim
P.S. the screensaver does stay on - so whatever is waking the sleep display isn't disturbing the screen saver - this suggests to me it's a bug. Obviously a black screensaver isn't the solution though - the backlight is still on.

I've got a very the similar problem. Brand new iMac 24" that shipped with Leopard -- my first Mac after jumping ship fom the Windoze side.
I had iTunes updating it's album artwork and since it was taking a while, I went to bed. When I turned out my light, I realized the screen had not yet gone to sleep (a good 15 minutes after it should have). So I set up a Hot Corner to put the display to sleep. When I put the mouse there, the monitor would go to sleep, but wake up within 10 seconds. At first I thought it was just the mouse moving as I walked away, but it wasn't.
I ended up turning the computer off because the big beautiful screen was throwing too much light. Since, I rarely turn my computers off and they're usually doing SOMETHING, this is really annoying.
Admittedly, I haven't tried some othe the potential solutions above, but this has to be the same bug. Screen saver stays on, monitor comes out of sleep.
    Any help would be.....well.....helpful.

  • Display stays off when using the remote...

I've setup my mac to deactivate the screen after 10mins of inactivity. When the display is automatically switched off, the remote doesn't wake the screen when I press buttons anymore. I can hear all the typical front row sounds when I press the buttons but the screen stays black. The display comes back on as soon as I move the mouse though....
It worked fine before I updated my firmware. :o(

Seem to have found the cause: It only happens after i've used Windows via Bootcamp. After restarting front row a couple of times it works again though.
    Hooray!

It's really annoying and I need someone's help. Thanks! ^_^
