My 3GS phone, the earpiece speaker shuts off about 5 seconds into a phone call, Is this an easy user correctable software fix or a hardware problem that requires service?

Yes. Apple doesn't repair most problems.  If out of warranty, you may be eligable for this:
Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
iPhone model
Out-of-Warranty Service
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c,
iPhone 5
$269
iPhone 4s
$199
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS,
iPhone 3G, Original iPhone
$149
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax. When setting up out-of-warranty service, Apple will request credit card pre-authorization for the maximum service fee listed above.  This amount will be deducted from your credit limit. The final service fee we charge will be determined during testing and may be less than the service fee listed above.Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPhone is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. iPhones that are repaired or replaced have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare product coverage, whichever is longer. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

Have you tried any troubleshooting? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears? Have you restored from a back up? Have you restored as new?
Has your phone ever been jailbroken?
If none of the standard trouble shooting steps work, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store for evaluation.

  • 3GS IPhone shuts off from incoming and outgoing calls 2 or 3 times a day

3GS IPhone shuts off from incoming and outgoing calls 2 or 3 times a day. The phone stays on but I can't call out or receive calls till I turn the phone off and back on.

I have the same problem with my 2 month old 3GS phone. It will shuts off from incoming and outgoing calls 2 - 3 times every day. I would miss important business calls. And will discover it only when I need to make a call. In this case screen looks normal. I choose contact, go to next screen - call in progress, it also looks normal, but there is no dial tone. Than I would restart the phone, and it will work again, displaying my missing calls, and angry voice messages of my customers, which trying to reach me. Please help us solve this problem (or maybe it is time to exchange my 3GS for a new one?)

  • Mac Mini Tiger: halfway thru install dvd for snow leopard, install stops due to needing Leopard first. Unable to find command to exit installation, I force ejected dvd, now computer shuts down thirty seconds into powering up.

No combination of keys held down while powering up, nor unplugging from power source, will give me a screen, or utilities, or rebuild; the machine just shuts off thirty seconds after starting to power up.

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

Then try booting from install DVD.
It sounds like the SN DVD was an upgrade-only disk. Those only upgrade from Leopard,

This was the third Restore I've attempted today.... 'm not sure what all I did including unplugging and plugging it back in, and messing with tryign to select my phone vs. my husbands but it starting moving again.  It's now attempting to "back up" from ICloud... we'll see. Thanks

  • In the process of shutting off, my iPhone 4 froze. I can't get it to change or connect to anything.

In the process of shutting off, my iPhone 4 froze. The little scrolling circle just keeps displaying. I can't get it to connect ot iTunes or to my charger. So far, nothing I have done has changed anything.

Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an  appears. This should take about 8 seconds, and it reboots the phone. If it doesn't something is seriously trashed in your iPhone's memory.
You can then try a forced restore. Restart your computer, launch iTunes, put the iPhone in the cradle and hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for a long time (20 seconds). This puts the phone in Recovery mode, and it should prompt you to restore the phone.

  • Cannot shut off skype on android phone

How do you shut off skype from android phone.  I can't find any button to shut it off once it's on!

This thing has totally hijacked my phone.  I can not make any calls at all with my regular cell phone service.  Everytime I try it immediately opens skype and tries to dial from there.  I have hit the "sign out' button, that does not work.  I have pulled my battery out and sim card out, that doesn't work.  I have powered it off and on; that does not work.  I can not even call my provider to report the problem as it only goes to skype.  I do have the most current version of Skype; so that is not the issue either. there apparenly is not way to call anyone and get a live person for help????  I have tried everything.  This is a business phone and consequently has shut me down without it????  HELP.This is because you have set (by accident) Skype to be the default application for calls. To change this go in Settings, then Apps. You should be in a tab called "Downloaded." From there, scroll down until you see Skype. Click on Skype, scroll down and touch the "Clear defaults" button. Next time you'll dial make sure to select "Dialer" or something like that (and definitely NOT Skype) before clicking on "Always launch this app". I hope this helps. P.S.: As a follow up from my previous message, I have uninstalled Skype and stopped using it. I switched everything to Google Hangouts and Whatsapp.

  • Why was the program automatally  shut off immediately  ?

I  bought I pad in HK .  When I used QQ and memory note,  when I wrote "我” , the program was shut off immediately , I has to visit the program  again.  Why ?

I cannot speak to this specific instance, but many times, when the pad shuts down unexpectedly, there is simply a memory problem.   Double tap the home button and see the apps in the recently used area.  Most of them are simply recently used, but some do continue to keep some memory reserved.
Double tap to see the task bar.  Touch and hold any of those icons until they jiggle, then shut them down by touching the minus sign.
Them reboot.  Press and hold the sleep and hold buttons until you see the apple logo.  Ignore the red slider.
Going through the task bar and closing off old apps is a good way to keep the machine running well.

  • Macbook Pro seems to be bricked by ML install. Upon restart it shows a progress bar which makes it to about 15%, and then the machine simply shuts off. Help?

Title pretty much says it all. Install seemed to be going fine, then upon restart it hit a gray screen with a progress bar for about 30 seconds. Once the progress bar makes it to about 15% the machine simply shut off. I tried turning the machine on again a few times, but each time I had the same issue. I then tried running the 10.8 recovery disk, but it just showed the gray spinning wheel for about 6 hours. Any ideas?

Something similar issue with me too. Intallation went fine. Then it started updating java once reboot it got stuck on grey screen. It wont boot at all. That spinning wheel keeps on going forever. :(

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.
