My 3gs screen locked on itunes logo during update of itunes after error 1602.

My phone didn't back up properly (it said the backup couldn't be saved on the computer) but I tried to update the OS to 5.1.1 anyway via itunes. During the backup, I got an error 1602. itunes no longer recognized that a phone was connected and my iphone screen now shows an itunes logo along with an arrow and usb connector. I have tried to reboot the phone using all of the suggestions online but it will not reboot and remains unresponsive. It is NOT jailbroken. Help!

Problem resolved! I went to the apple store and they took one look at it and said that the phone was disabled and that they couldn't do anything for me. They offered to sell me a new one at a low price to replace it. He didn't try to hook it to my laptop at all (although I tried everything I found on like both hooked to the laptop and unhooked). Now I just have to figure out how to hook it to itunes and not corrupt this phone too

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Thank you for clarifying. Your question is in your browser, not in iTunes. Each download link is different, and it has nothing to do with the File menu. You can save media files by secondary-clicking on the link to the media file and selecting Save File to "[your downloads folder".

Changing the localization option simply changes the labels and folders iTunes will use for new content. Existing connect properly connected to the library should remain connected. If you've got files that are missing in action, ie. display with an exclamation mark, then they need to be relinked to the library before they can be transferred to your devices.
The default location for a Movie or TV Show also varies according to whether or not the library is in the new "iTunes Media Organisation" layout. Movies used to be lumped into a single folder, but now each get their own. I have a script called FindTracks that can search a media folder in either new or old layout and attempts to reconnect missing items. It currently assumes the US naming for Movies and TV Shows, though I guess I could tweak it for the alternate names if it would be useful. How many files are you trying to reconnect?

Without knowing what you mean by "have had trouble purchasing anything in iTunes", we really can't help to troubleshoot the problem. Can you tell us what you mean by that? What error you are getting, or what is preventing you from proceeding with your purchase?

So, I got this problem with the black screen with a cable and the iTunes logo in it. I tried restoring it, but in the middle of the process, the iPhone turns off (and it is still connected to the computer) and I get an error message (1656). I already tryed the solution that I have to find the "hosts" file, but there's no "gs.apple.com" line to be deleted.
What do I do?

I tried to do this at least 4 times! the iTunes is running the restore but at the end he's failed.. he say there is an error ! I think number -1.

Iphone 3GS. The slide bar does not work, ie the screen lock does not unlock. I have tried to reset (power and home buttons) and also to restore my iphone several times using iTunes without any success. Any suggestions? My son uses the phone now for games, so it has no carrier.

A reset can be done by tapping and holding the Home button and the Sleep/On/Off buttons at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the iPhone 3GS can only be updated as far as 4.2.1
Requirements for WhatsApp are iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

So that app cannot run on the iPhone 3GS.
I stand corrected but apparently you may not be able to update the device regardless.

HT4623 Backed up our iPhone on iTunes, started the update. Got an error notice, were disconnected from server. Phone now has an unchangabel plug in to iTunes screen but cant contact iPhone server. What do we do?

Got an error notice and phone now has a screen indicating to plug in to iTunes that we can't change even if we turn the phone off and back on. Before starting a new discussion I tried everything of your link, google etc... nothing works for me.
I´m using a pc running windows 8, last version of itunes etc.. tried using different usb ports, uninstalling avast antivirus but nothing works.
