The subject line pretty much describes my dilemma. My 3rd Gen won't boot up and gets hot when I plug in the charger. Any suggestions?
It is normal for an iPod to become warn when charging. Have you tried the troubleshooting here:

- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. The cable as well as the iPod, is covered by the warranty.

My iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.3 keeps crashing at 45%!when my iPhone nears 45% from a full charge it suddenly says the phone is 20% then 10% then 1% and then it goes dead.when I plug in the charger instead of waitin a few minutes for it to turn on,it instantly turns on and says the battery is 45%!this is OK at home where I can keep the charger plugged in but what about when im on the go?PLEASE HELP!!!
This is most likely faulty battery. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

Particularly:
Battery does not charge
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
iPhone or iPod touch displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
If you see the image below, charge the iPhone or iPod touch with USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
You should see this image when iPhone or iPod touch begins to charge:
If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning the iPhone or iPod touch off and then on again.
If the issue persists, follow these troubleshooting steps.

You can't get iphone to sync pics to a mac? What have you tried? What didn't work?
In itunes, did you go to the photo tab for your device and turned on iphoto to perform a sync. -

Sounds like the battery is dead. Take it to Apple and ask them to check it out for you.

My macbook pro will not charge or turn on. When I plug in the charger nothing happens and the light doesn't turn on. What can I do?
Some basics please, what vintage is your MBP, have you plugged anything else into the wall socket to verify that it is live? which light doesn't turn on, the charger or the MBP?
Hold the power button down for 15 seconds, wait for 2 then press it normally and see te MBP it turns on -
My iphone 5 battery life at the most inconvenient times drains down till the phone turns off. When I plug in the charger for just 5 or 10 seconds, it will often show 35 - 45% left! I unplug the charger immediately and I have 45% battery life! That means I always have to have a charger with me in case it quits! I can't always do that.
The % counter isn't always accurate.
I'd reset the phone, which might help make it more accurate. (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears).
You might also try restoring the phone from a backup. -
I dont know why it happens. I clos my mac, it goes to sleep and when it is already sleeping if i plug the charger then it wakes up, or at least the fans and the white led light near to the infrared thing turns on. And this also happens if it is sleeping with the charger plugged and whenever i want to quit the plug cause its already charged it turns on. All this happens with the lid (top cover) closed and only when it is sleeping and I unplug when it is pluged, or plug if it is not. I have some more Macbook pro olders 2010, and 2009-8 with 10.9.2, and this thing does not happen to them. Please if someone knows tell me??? If it is not clear is the Macbook Pro 13 with 3.0 usb, disk drive, the latest that apple announced with the disk drive, so i think it is late 2012 or 2013
There are two distinct sets of settings for Energy-Saver items -- one for Battery, one for Power Adapter.
When you plug in the adapter, it needs to wake up and change over to the other settings -- sort of like the hospital waking you up to be sure you get your sleeping pill.
The later versions of Power Management are more sophisticated than older versions, so they are more likely to do this "correctly" -- to wake up and change over. -
3rd gen won't boot past apple symbol
My 3rd gen ipod won't boot up. It only display the Apple symbol, makes a few clicks and restarts, looping over and over. The computer does not register it because it hasn't fully booted up. Tried connecting it to both mac and pc. I cannot reset it or restore it.
Trouble started when ipod did not sync correctly.My 3rd gen just did the same thing. I would guess it is toast. Anyone? I tried a reset, but no luck. I was hoping I could restore it, but it will not even be acknowledged by my computer

Latest Version available (5.1.1)
Tried resetting settings
Tried hard reset (home button and power button at the same time until apple logo)
Has a full charge
So basically any time I try to turn the iPod Touch on it will bring up a black screen for a second on the display, fail to boot up to the apple logo, and then shuts the display off.

The only problem is in the process of this occuring I have had a hard drive fail so my iPod Touch backups are more than likely lost without further analysis. So what would be the next best step? I assume refreshing it and backing up everything with a backup on my new hard drive under iTunes. Obviously, my computer would know anything about this iPod since I don't have its previous backups, but I should still be able to get the basics (music,videos,photos,etc) back thanks to default iCloud account right?

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Likely a bad battery

Today my iPod touch (3rd gen) fell onto the floor and the screen turned black. It was almost put of battery anyways so I wasn't exactly worried.... But when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't. It wouldn't hold a charge. I tried hooking it up to the computer and windows pops up a message like "cannot recognize device" and it doesn't show up at all on iTunes. I've tried holding down the both the home and power buttons for 9 seconds. I've tried to enter DFU mode. Nothing seems to work. I could really use some help because I DONT want to buy a new one and I'm definitely not under a warranty. HELP!!!!
Try the remaining items of:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The appointment is free.

Perhaps it got wet before you put it in the dock to charge?
How hot is your "hot"...if hot to the touch as opposed to warm it's probably
DEAD as indicated by the blinking red LED.

Why won't my touch recharge when i plug in the charger unless i turn it off and on first?

I plug in an AC adapter to recharge.
Nothing happens.
If I power down my iPod touch and restart it, then I see that it is being recharged (via the lightning bolt in the power bar).Try the standard fixes to rule out a hardware problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
