    - Try resetting the iPod;
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then retore. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Then try placing the iPod in DFU mode and then restore.

  • IPod Touch will not restore - Error msg: (21)

Can anyone pls help? I tried to restore my daughter's iPod Touch and now it doesnt show on iTunes and when i try to complete the restore process, i get an error msg: (21) which is 'security software interference'. I have rebooted, turned off the firewall and disabled AVG Pro - there are no ther security programs on the pc. I still have the error. What do i do now ??

I have no clue what a jailbroken ipod is, but a quick search on it shows that it's some sort of hack? I can assure you it has NOT been hacked and that this is either an issue with the iPod or my USB ports. At this point, I am more inclined to think it's an issue with my USB ports as multiple flash drives do not even register on my computer (though they can be safely ejected...).

  • HT201263 ipod Touch will not restore

Hi- My sister claims to have updated her ipod touch from her ipod & now the usb going to itunes screen will not leave the screen & I have plugged it into itunes & no information for her ipod comes up. Also it says ipod is in recovery mode & needs to restore but I have done that twice now & nothing happens. Please help me!

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • IPod Touch will not Restore

I recently bought a new app on the iTunes store and, after being unable to install it, decided to restore my iPod Touch. I tried doing it with the options provided in iTunes only to find that my iPod can not be restored (error 1604). I've tried manually resetting it, but there doesn't seem to be anyway to do that. I'll it will do is show the Apple logo and then display the "Connect to iTunes" picture. When I do, it says that it must be restored. After preparing to restore, the computer announces this can not be done because of error 1604 and I'm right back at the beginning. Please help.

This is a USB problem. Since you have a Mac, restart your computer first and try it again before troubleshooting the problem.
    From the KB article: (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275)
"Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Connect iPhone to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
    2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
    3. When prompted click OK.
    4. Close and re-open iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
    5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    6. Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection."

  • IPod Touch will not restore in iTunes

My iPod Touch keeps switching itself off suddenly and as instructed I hold the top/bottom buttons together and it usully comes back on.  But, now it will not hold and just keeps switching itself off and on.  A couple of times it showed the apps etc. but then switched itself off again.  I have now managed to get the "plug into iTunes" picture up and each time I manage to get this and iTunes acknowledges it I try to restore it but it gets so far and the iPod shuts down and it shows that it cannot be restored.  A friend has also tried to restore on his computer but gets the same problem.  iTunes is up to date and when I originally tried to update the iPod as requested it would not do it as iPod again shut down.  Can anyone help please or do I need to go to an Apple store to get a repair.  Thanks

Thanks for that.  I have already tried this exactly as written.  I get half way through the restore and it freezes and tells me that iTunes cannot see the iPod and the iPod has turned itself off again. I have tried doing this procedure for about 2 hours and so has our friend on his computer but the same thing happens.

  • 4th Gen iPod Touch will not restore or do anything!

I have a iPod Touch 4th Generation 64gb.  One day, it restarted itself without input on my part.  Now, it's showing the "Connect to iTunes" screen.  When I connect it, iTunes says its found an iPod in Recovery Mode.  When I click Restore, it downloads the latest update and goes through the process of restoring my iPod.  However, when the iPod screen shows the loading bar under the Apple logo, the screen flashes white and restarts.  Obviously, iTunes spits out Error 9 because of the loss of connection.
I've done everything from hard resets to entering DFU mode.  NOTHING WORKS!
    To include some extra info:
    - It's out of warranty
    - It's Black
    - I've tried this on three ( 3 ) different PCs
Any help would be appreciated.  And also, spitting back Apple support pages is NOT helping.

    DId you try this:
    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
