My 4s has ' horrendous ' battery life since the iOS 7.1 upgrade

I've turned off everything in the background and dimmed the screen and yet, when it sits on my hip at work - while not taking in a call or ANYTHING else - the battery drains to 50%.  And heaven forbid I should use it for anything.  It actually went to 8% left on the battery, which I haven't seen in the 26 months I've had this phone.  I've gone on-line to forums to look for other fixes I haven't thought of.
I have an offer from Verizon to go to the 5C for free, but am ready to throw Apple under the bus and move to the android platform.  I have to make a decision by March 31 - so Apple, are you going to solve this?
I can't believe you all didn't test this update in the real world with real users before rolling it out.

Hello reddingmari,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

It's probably the battery indicator, not the battery itself.  Run it down until it shuts down automatically.  Ignore any low battery alerts that appear.  Then, charge it overnight with the 10W charger.

Your battery has reached the end of its life. If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay.

• What is going on with the battery life since the osi upgrade

Why is my battery life drain quickly

Mine is better. You will find thousands of discussions about battery life with every version and every upgrade and between upgrades over the past 7 years. Nothing is different with iOS 7. Rather than me repeating what must have been said tens of thousands of times for this and every other version try searching the forum for answers. Start with "More Like This" to the right.

• My iPad has been going crazy since the iOS 5.0.1 update.

Touch screen seems to be selecting things on its own and it types on its own.  Pages in iBook turn by themselves and the screen keeps flashing.  Sometimes, it won't let me move beyond a certain point on the screen.  Happens about once an hour.  Turning it off helps, but it usually starts again.  Any way to go back to ios 5.0?  Any help would be appreciated.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported. Have you tried closing all apps completely and doing a reset and seeing if that helps ?
To close all apps, from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
To reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

• My iPhone 4 is not allowing me to put music on it.  It connects to iTunes, but does not sync nor does it allow me to upload music to it.  This has been a problem since the iOS 6.1.3. Update. What can I do?

I really need help with this. It's been going on for a while now, and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wait until the next update.  All I know is that my iPhone 4S, isn't allowing me to put music on it.

The next iOS update won't change this.
Are you able to transfer anything else from your iTunes library and computer via the iTunes sync process such as a movie, TV show, podcast, audio or print book, apps, and photos from your computer?

The Battery in my laptop has been replaced twice and this is the third time the battery has swollen up.
Since the first time it was swollen I have asked the reason but Apple has not come up with a reason and just replaced it.
Second time also the service centre replaced the battery but were unable to give me a reason.
I had asked them to replace the laptop as this has been happening repeatedly and seems to be something with the laptop
otherwise why should every battery they put swell ?
This is the third time this has happened. And now they refuse to replace the battery or the laptop also.
What is the solution?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and press the problem. Elevate to store manager if necessary. Maybe the charging circuits are defective resulting in overcharging which is causing the battery problem.

• Decrease battery life since Maxx software upgrade

My Droid Maxx HD had excellent battery life prior to my recent software upgrade that occurred earlier this week. Now come 5pm my battery that use to last till 9pm is dead! What can I do to extend the life of the battery so it does what I bought it for?

Sorry for the battery issues, but let's narrow down what could be doing it.  I'm gonna provide some information that will help you this.  Some of the information will have a question before it, and the information will clarify why the question is important.
How are your charging your device on a normal basis?  If you are charging it in the car more often than the wall, that will not give you a quality charge and you will see the charge drain faster than charging it from an outlet.
How do you close your apps?  Most game apps are intensive on your battery if they remain open, even if you are not actively using the app.  Simply pressing the home button doesn't allow your device to "sleep" so you're going to have a degredation in battery life.
Have you updated the apps since your device software updated?  If the app version you currently have isn't what is most current, it would cause issues  with overall performance.
What charger are you using?  If it's not the charger that came with the device, or an approved charger you would have issues getting a quality charge.
Do you recall any app you downloaded right before you began having issues?  Some apps are "high risk" and interfere with your device and it's functioning.  If you have installed an app right before this started you can try uninstalling them in reverse order from their installation.
Well, I'm done taking up your time and I hope this information helps.  If you find out it is an app you recently downloaded, but you want the app I would suggest either posting some feedback to the app developers.  An alternative solution would be to purchase a charging case/portable charger.  Good luck with your battery issues.

• Battery life. The elephant in the room or is it just me?

So the trade-off against integrating the antenna into the case (at such cost) was to make room for a bigger battery, so we could enjoy longer battery life between charges on our shiny new iPhone 4s. Really? My 3G was nearly two years old when I traded up to the iP4, yet its battery discharged at a far slower rate than the 4's battery from out of the box. Is mine just fitted with a battery that came off the production line on Friday afternoon, or am I expecting too much from the new model given its enhanced capability (as compared to the 3G and bearing in mind I skipped the 3GS), which must be expected to consume more power? Whatever, I am disappointed by the battery life of the iPhone 4, yet surprised to read no mention of any battery issues in these posts, especially as battery life was supposed to be one of its selling points. The reviews also seem to confirm an improvement in battery life that just doesn't square with my own experience. Anybody got a view?

I'm surprised my battery is doing well although I have replaced my iphone for the 2nd time. But here is the result from the first replacement:

comparing to what others have posted, similar stats but seems like mine only goes for 5 hours at tops or a bit over. So i took it to the genius bar, and this is why they replaced my iphone for the 2nd time.
Here is what I do with my iphone 4,
Basically I unplug it at exactly at 7 am, through out the day, I only check my phone every hour. Do some textings, check 2-3 apps every hour. of course i get phone calls in the morning and at night so during the day it's not a problem. From the time my phone is in sleep mode, and the time I wake it up, sometimes it stays, but sometimes I lose 1%, but then the moment I text or check few apps, I lose 2% more, which is fine i guess as the apps does eats small amount.
As seen on my stats, I can only get 5 hours of usage somehow. Even though the standby stats says 1 day 14 hours.
As for my 2nd replacement, even if it has similar stats (still on first charge so I have to drain it to calibrate the accuracty). I'll probably just keep this one, as long as the phone last the entire day is fine with me.

• IPod hardware failed, new one under warantee has horrid battery life

I have an iPod 80GB purchased in 10/06. Last month, the drive failed and I was able to easily get it replaced at the Apple store where I bought it.
However, the replacement's battery life is not as good as my old one was. Since the replacements are (I assume) all refurbished models, this must be a used battery. There are only a couple months left on my warranty, do I need to prove that the battery life of the new model is less than 50% of the original life before Apple will do anything about it?
Will they do anything?

Check the warranty status on the WD web site.  You may be able to exchange it.
Ciao.

• Is it any differences in battery life between the different processors (MBPr late 2013)?

Is it any differences in battery life between the 2,4GHz i5, the 2,6GHz i5 and the 2,8GHz i7?
I'm planing on buying a macbook pro 13" but I'm a little bit uncertain which processor I should chose. I want as much power as possibly but if it's any significent battery diffrences, then I would chose battery over power. I've read that there is about 45 min diffrence between the 2,3GHz and the 2,6GHz in the 15".

I imagine that there are but since Apple makes no such distinctions, I suspect that the differences are not that great.  I have not seen any reports or studies to that effect.
If battery life is of paramount importance to you, consider a Macbook Air.  The advertised battery run times are significantly longer than the Macbook Pro.
Ciao.

• Core i7 Haswell's - Significantly Less Battery Life Than The Core i5's?

Is anyone with a Core i7 macbook air, new one with the Haswell processors, seeing less battery life than the same system with a Core i5?
Long story short, I started out with the Core i5 and 4gb ram (store bought) and decided after a week to go with 8gb ram and figured I'd up the CPU to the i7 as well and ordered from Apple.com.
The original Core i5 REALLY WAS getting upwards of 12 hours on battery; this Core i7 is more around 6+ hours. I took it to my local Apple store, they tested it out, showed everything hardware wise was fine and suggested reloading to factory...Done (nothing installed/change from factory; NOTHING)...Same issue...
I know, and expected, to get less battery life with the Core i7, but almost 50% less? ***?
Anyone else seeing this?
Thanks!
Scott

Several have reported same, contrary to vociferous statements by others to the contrary, since the I7 idles at a low power consumption, and bursts data quicker than the I5
You are not supposed to be getting that, if as you say you have NOTHING installed at all, just factory. However that rating is for minor web surfing and word processing etc.
More important than longer batt. life to me are these stats.    Id return it and get your orignal I5  13" ..but get 8gig of ram.
Geekbench: i5: 5868, i7: 6287 (+7%)
Handbrake: i5: 12min12s, i7:12min5s (-1%)
Cinebench: i5: 11.13fps, i7:11.54fps (+4%)
iMovie: i5: 5min1s, i7: 4min56s (-2%)
PhotoShop: i5: 68.7s, i7:57.4s (-17%) <<<<only "real" improvement area of the I7
Final cut: i5: 2min7s, i7: 2min 4s (-2%)
But your I7 experience is not supposed to be normal however,.....despite many others reporting same.
Love my new macbook Air, ....sounds like you loved your original I5 13"  , .....seems youve come full circle.

• I just bought my first iphone.  I am so disappointed in the battery life on the iphone5.  Have the phones always been this way?  Is there anything in the works to improve the battery life?

I just bought my first iphone.  I am so disappointed in the battery life of the iphone 5.  Is this the norm for iphones?  Are they working on a fix to this problem?  Almost wishing I had bought something else.

Without knowing what battery life you are seeing we can't determine if you have a problem. Have you compared your usage to the Technical Specifications?
Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
Standby time: Up to 225 hours
Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
Under normal use, unless there's a problem with your phone, battery life is comparable to any other smart phone and better than some. If you've never owned a smart phone before you will be disappointed with the battery life on all smart phones. You should expect to charge any of them daily. It's a mistake to think of it as a phone at all; it's a very powerful pocket-sized computer that can also make phone calls.
