my 4th gen ipod classic will not unlock. Reset and restore does not work. Any suggestions?
I assume you mean the lock switch seems to be stuck in the On position whether or not it's toggle Off or not?
If a restore of the iPod to factory settings doesn't resolve the issue, it's likely a good indication of a faulty/damaged lock switch meaning you'll need to either take or send your iPod in for service. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange (unless your iPod is still under the 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects and they deem the issue a defect in which case they will swap it out for you at no cost) or send it to a third party service who can replace the faulty part for a little less.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. -
My ipod isnt recognized by windows! xP still charges though, but doesnt do so on an xbox 360 either. works perfectly fine, but isnt recognized on my windows 7 laptop or another one i tried syncing it on. any help or suggestions? thank you for reading

I downloaded new music onto itunes and it plays just fine but when i sync it to my ipod 4th gen. it wont sync. They greyed out when i click "on this ipod". Help me?

That could be a clear sign of a damaged hard disk. Can you try and force the iPod into Disk Mode and then connect it to iTunes so you can attempt a restore or even a low level reformat of the iPod's HD/file system.

IPod touch 4th gen that wont charge or show up in itunes.
I have an iPod touch 4th gen. that wont charge. When I plug it in, it shows the battery with a little red at the one end and a lighting bolt ( the usual screen when charing the itouch after it is completely dead). I have left it in pluged in for a few hours but it never actually charges. Also when I plug it into my computer Itune won't recongnize it. The cords work fine I tested them with my other Ipods and everything worked liked normal. I have tried to restart it by holding the power and home button together but that doesn't seem to help either (again probably because it is dead). Thanks for the help.

HT4623 Dead iphone 5s-hard reset doesnt work. Now what?
We just got my daughter an iphone 5s. we went to update it last night and it turned off and wont turn back on. Screen is black, hard reset doesnt work, and it doesnt register on the phone to be plugged in/wont charge. Only had it about a week. Hasn't been dropped, or gotten wet. ONly the carrier that the phone is locked to is authorized to unlock it.

i think its kind of short circuited is any thing workable in this device or not........I solved my problem by restoring the shuffle to factory settings on the summary screen. Now it seems to work the way it's supposed to. Many thanks to Apple for zero help, as usual. Apple should direct less resources to developing the next snazzy ipad and more to cleaning up and enhancing itunes. I'll make the same editorial comment about the iphone 4 voicemail options.
