My 4th Gen iPod Touch can not recognize my wifi

my 4th gen iPod does not want to recognize my wifi network. It sees it and even allows me to enter the password, but the circle just keeps spinning and never connects! It was working fine up until about 4 days ago. I have tried turning off and on, telling iPod to forget network and rejoining but it does not seem to work. The most frustrating part is that my wifes 4th gen works fine on the same network when she is sitting on the couch right beside me. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

- Reset the iPod. nothing is lost
reset iPod. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Power off and then back on your router.
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • HT1430 My 4th Gen iPod touch will not turn, doesnt charge, and i can't reset in computer because it says it is protected by a passcode, but i cant enter pass code because the screen stays black and won't even light up... What do I do

My 4th gen iPod Touch has had a blank screen for about 3-4 weeks now, it will not turn on, sync, or charge. iTunes recognizes its plugged up, but i cant reset it because it says its passcode protected, but i cant enter passcode due to screen not lighting up or working. How do i fix this?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • My 4th gen ipod touch will not work in a philips or Sony docking station

I bought a philips(DC320) clock radio and my ipod touch would not work in it.  Thinking it was a problem with the connector on the radio I returned it and bought a Sony ICF-CS15ip because the store was out of the philips radio.  When I plugged my 4th gen ipod touch into that again my Ipod touch would not play through the radio but the radio would recognize and charge the ipod.  I tried my daughter's 2nd gen ipod touch in the Sony and it worked great.  So It looks like there is a problem with the my ipod.  Sony claims that the ICF-CS15ip is compatible with the 4th gen ipod touch and I have the latest IOS 5.1.1 on my ipod.  Any suggestions before I go to the Apple store?  The Ipod is only 6 months old.

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPOd.
That has worked for some users.
However, sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility. In that case yo have to wait for either Apple or the dock manufacturer to issue a firmware update.

  • My new 4th gen. iPod touch is not being recognized by my PC

When I plug in my new 4th gen iPod touch, the computer just says that it is a USB device that is not recognized, what can I do? My operating system is Windos Vista.

    Does the iPod work OK?
Have you tied resetting the iPod? Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore via iTunes.  If iTunes does not see the iPod then the iPod is not usable. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 4th gen iPod touch will not power on, will not charge anywhere, and is not recognized as plugged in by iTunes. This is irritating, as a friend had given it to me in perfect working condition because she got a new 5th gen iPod Touch.

I just got this 4th-gen Touch from a friend because she got a new 5th-gen. when she gave it to me, the 4th-gen was in perfect working order, and I haven't used it since she gave it to me. I had put it in sleep mode and put it on my dresser, wher it has sat without being messed with for two weeks. Now, all of a sudden, it won't power on, it won't charge no matter WHERE i plug it in to charge, and not even a hard reboot has worked. My computer will not even recognize that it is even plugged in. There is no red low battery symbol displayed, nothing to make it seem as if it is charging, and, if it is charging, no response is evoked from it when I tap it, or push any buttons. The warranty on the thing has expired, and I really need to find out what is wrong with it and get it fixed. Can ANYBODY HELP ME?????????  if somebody can point me in the right direction, or even help me get it physically fixed, i am willing to give MAJOR points, and it would be greatly appreciated.

Didn't you already post something similar:
Yesterday, I went and bought a refurbished 3rd-generation iPod touch, with a warranty for needed repairs in the future. When I went home after buying it, I plugged it into my computer to start charging. I plugged it in, and the battery in the iPod exploded, and now it won't power on period, even when it is plugged in or docked. I bought a warranty to go with the iPod because I figured that I was probably going to drop it, and then need it repaired. But Apple cannot even find the purchase record on file from where I bought the AppleCare warranty on it, so now I am stuck with what is now basically a paperweight. What should I do?

And would this be the same iPod with the fried battery?

  • My 4th gen iPod touch won't recognize the remote feature on earbuds other than Apple earpods - anyone else had this issue?

Apple earpods don't fit my ears well, so I bought a pair of Sony earbuds a few months ago. When they came, I noted that I could turn volume up and down, but the remote portion didn't work - couldn't pause or skip music. They weren't the highest quality so I assumed it was a fluke.
I just got a new pair of earbuds and same issue! The volume works but the remote does nothing. I tried to use my boyfriend's Apple earpods with my touch and the remote works fine. Also, the new earbuds I got work, remote and all, on his 4th gen Nano.
I can't seem to find anything online about why these earbuds that are supposed to be compatible wouldn't be working. I've cleaned out the audio jack so it's not a lint issue, plus it really does work just fine with Apple earpods, only alternatives don't work. And again, I can hear fine and the volume can be controlled but the remote to pause and play and skip isn't recognized at all.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

So just in case anyone else ever runs into this...
I solved the issue and it was that between the plug of the new earbuds being slightly thicker than the Apple earpods, and the width of the case that I was using for my iPod, there wasn't a connection being made to activate the remote function.
I took off the case and now the earbuds work exactly as they should!

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch will not turn on

Over the last two years, I've battled with inconsistent performance from my iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. At some point, I think it got overheated, and I believe that's when the battery issues started. Here's an in-depth look at the various problems...
    1) The iPod will not turn on for weeks at a time. YES, I HAVE tried pressing the home button and wake button at the same time. Please do not suggest that I do that. When I plug it into either a USB port or my wall charger, the iPod will either A) not respond in 90% of cases or B) show the little charging symbol in the other 10%. If I unplug my iPod at this point, it shows the typical "Connect to charger" illustration. However, if I leave it connected to the wall, it will sit there, acting like it's charging, but never actually does. It never even gets to the Apple screen, and this often goes on for days. I have already tried "restore" mode in iTunes to no avail either.
    2) The iPod will charge (after weeks off of the charger), but only for about 25-30 minutes. Once I get it to turn on, it will only charge to about 20% usually, and then I have to remove and re-insert the USB plug to get it to charge further. I cannot use the iPod during this charging time, as it will deplete the battery and put it back in the state from number 1 for weeks. In connection to this problem, my laptop (primary charging source) now makes the sound effect of a USB device being inserted and removed fairly often, even when no iPod is connected, and when the iPod is connected, the USB ports will randomly charge (or not charge) my iPod.
    3) Even on full charge (that rare occasion), my battery life only lasts about an hour.
I don't have a Genius bar anywhere near here, and this iPod is at least 3 years old, so it's not worth pouring a lot of money into to repair or replace. Any solutions?

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
Sounds like at least a bad battery

  • 4th Gen iPod Touch will not restore or do anything!

I have a iPod Touch 4th Generation 64gb.  One day, it restarted itself without input on my part.  Now, it's showing the "Connect to iTunes" screen.  When I connect it, iTunes says its found an iPod in Recovery Mode.  When I click Restore, it downloads the latest update and goes through the process of restoring my iPod.  However, when the iPod screen shows the loading bar under the Apple logo, the screen flashes white and restarts.  Obviously, iTunes spits out Error 9 because of the loss of connection.
I've done everything from hard resets to entering DFU mode.  NOTHING WORKS!
    To include some extra info:
    - It's out of warranty
    - It's Black
    - I've tried this on three ( 3 ) different PCs
Any help would be appreciated.  And also, spitting back Apple support pages is NOT helping.

    DId you try this:
    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
If you tried evetthing here then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • 1st Gen Ipod Touch can't see any WiFi networks?

My friend gave me his old Ipod Touch, and everything worked fine for a while. Recently though, the WiFi just cut out and I can't connect or see anything. When I open up the 'Connect to WiFi' menu, there are no options.. even though I know there is internet because my computer is connected. I have tried typing in the name of the networks and I get an error that reads 'This network was not found.'
I have tried reformatting it to factory specs three times through Itunes, and it still won't show up.
Anyone have any ideas? Is the wireless card/adapter dead?
    Thanks
