My 4th gen ipod wont restore

hey i've been having trouble with my ipod for a week now.
the motor inside starts to wind up then just stops,and continuously does this. anyone no why? or how to fix it?
i tried restoring the settings, but my computer doesn't recognise the device, and on the rare occasion that it does, when i do press restore, it says i do not have the correct updated software.
i have a 4th generation click wheel ipod, and the latest version of itunes. please help

Okay! I may have a solution for some of you! I have a 4th gen click wheel, and it was doing the whole restart thing over and over, but never getting past the apple logo.
You need to get to the diagnostic mode. To do this I had to hold down the select and rewind buttons at the same time. (for some models it's the sel/ff buttons or the ff/rw at the same time. The Apple logo will briefly appear backwards, and then you should hear a chime. My screen came up as:
IRAMPASS
PLAY TO CONTINUE
(and some other junk)
press play.
Another menu will come up, scroll through the menu (my Ipod I had to click ff to scroll through. There were 3 pages to scroll through. I got to disk mode on that menu and with the ipod connected to my computer, I started disk mode. Once disk mode started my computer recognized the ipod (finally) and I was able to restore from the computer.
I did lose all the music stored on it, but I'm happy to have made this progress, considering when I got this ipod from a friend two days ago, who was about to throw it in the garbage, it would not even turn on!

So ive had my ipod touch 4th gen for about 4 months now. Its been dead for about 2 weeks now since I just came back from camping. I try to charge it via outlet but it keeps on showing the red battery emblem with the thunderbolt. Disabling the computer's security software (firewall and antivirus) usually resolves that error.

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.

When synching my 4th gen ipod touch I get error msg saying ipod could not be backed up because session could not be started with the ipod. It only does synch steps 2-5. Do I have to restore it?

You have to have an internet connection, either wireless or through a computer with iTunes. When you choose Software Update you can only update to the latest version for your iPod Touch, iOS 6.1.6

I just got a 4th gen. ipod touch. it works fine everything is great on it but when i try to sync only check marked songs onto it from itunes it wont sync any songs at all. I thought i solved the problem when i clicked "autofill" in the music tab under "my devices" but all that did was randomly put songs on my ipod. i went to the settings and unchecked "choose items randomly" and tried again but it did the same thing. i know its not my computer cuz the same thing was happening with my old ipod. i have "sync only checked songs" marked but it just wont work. IPod touch 4th gen that wont charge or show up in itunes.

I have an iPod touch 4th gen. that wont charge. When I plug it in, it shows the battery with a little red at the one end and a lighting bolt ( the usual screen when charing the itouch after it is completely dead). I have left it in pluged in for a few hours but it never actually charges. Also when I plug it into my computer Itune won't recongnize it. The cords work fine I tested them with my other Ipods and everything worked liked normal. I have tried to restart it by holding the power and home button together but that doesn't seem to help either (again probably because it is dead). Thanks for the help.

4th gen ipod dropped and will only freeze on restore

My 4th gen ipod droped about 6ft or higher and won't do anything but freeze on the restore screen
Details= the apple logo with a black bar with white outlining (oviosly a loading screen). It was connected to my computer for about 4h and no progress was maid. Itunes keeps saying "waiting for ipod".
Its not much to wwork off of but i don't have much to tell.

4th gen iPod nano won't recover from restoration, what do I do?

So my dad gave me his old 4th gen iPod nano and I didn't want to listen to the garbage he had on it so I plugged it into my computer and restored it, and when it was done restoring, it said it needed to recover. I've tried to do the same restoration process a few times now, and it will not recover. My iTunes recognizes that an iPod is plugged in, but it says that after my multiple restorations, I have 0 KB of available storage, when I should have 8 GB. It says the software is 1.0.4 and my laptop is running off of Windows 7. I've used different cords to make sure it isn't the cord, and it's not. My iTunes is updated and so I know that's not the problem. Help?
