My 4th Gen shuffle won't sync on my Windows 8 computer. What do I do?

I've got the latest version of iTunes, and it says "Starting Sync", then stops. How do I fix it?

iTunes will do that, if there is nothing new to sync...
You may need to set up or update the shuffle's settings for automatic syncing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Find the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES, and select it.  There is a bar of buttons toward the top, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the shuffle's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the shuffle.
Check the box for Sync Music, if it's not already checked.  You can choose to sync Entire music library, if it will fit on the shuffle.  With this setting, your entire iTunes music library syncs to the shuffle.  Any changes to your iTunes music library sync automatically to the shuffle, the next time it is connected (or when you clickSync).
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select (checkmark) the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres you want on the shuffle from the lists below.  If you want new songs to sync to the shuffle, they must be part of your selection.  For example, you can add them to one of the playlists that you have selected for syncing to the shuffle.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, changes to your iTunes library (based on your settings on the shuffle's Music screen) sync automatically to the shuffle, the next time it is connected (or when you click Sync).

  • Have a 4th gen shuffle, I cannot "sync" it.

Have a 4th gen shuffle, I cannot "sync" it.  When I installed Itunes it never gave me the option to "sync" it or recognize my Ipod.  I have spent hours on this, I have un installed, re installed, rebooted computer, changed ports, you name it and nothing.  Please HELP.
    Thank you..

If you connected it to both your computer's USB port and a USB power adapter on a wall outlet, I think you've ruled out a problem with the power source.  Since you at least get the red light, the USB docking cable is probably OK.
So, if it's not the USB port or the docking cable, the cause is likely to be on the shuffle.  It may be the battery or a problem on the logic board.  If it was just the battery, I think it would still appear in iTunes on the computer (or at least be recognized by the system).
(If this shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.)

Some other posts seem to indicate that the cause is related to voice memos.  You may want to try the remedy described in this document

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen iOS5 not synching on 64-Bit Windows 7 computer

I've been plagued with this problem ever since the iOS 5 update. To begin with I could not update to iOS5 with my main computer(Windows7 64-Bit) at ALL(the update would stop making progress when attempting to backup). I was having the same problem that many people on here have had anddecided to try updating with my auxiliary computer(running Windows XP) and Ifinally had iOS 5! After I updated my iPod, I had hoped that the synching issueI had been having would have resolved itself but that was not the case. After Irealized that it wouldn't sync with my main computer I decided to sync it withmy old computer and restore it to factory default settings and then do the"initial sync" and restore from my backup on my main computer. Finally I was getting my media from my main computer onto my iPod running iOS5,I thought this was fantastic and you can't imagine how happy this made me aftera month of dealing with this irritation. However, to my dismay, I came hometonight only to find that when I try to synch my iPod to my main computer itattempts to synch and then freezes in the second step of the synch while tryingto back up, just like it had when I was trying to update to iOS5. This has really caused way too much trouble for me and I've spent way too much time andeffort trying to remedy this problem.

    - As asked for the versions since many users think that have the "latest" when they do not have the latest version/
    - Q4: I said no that the iPod Touch 4G does not show up in iTunes/My Computer in my post. Please My question read my post.
My queston is does your iPod show up in iTunes when you conenct the iPod to another computer.
"If you connect the 4G iPod to another computer does it show in iTunes/My Computer?"
    If no:
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • How can I find an audio book on my 4th gen shuffle? Can't find it even when it's set to play in order. Tried setting it to Sync audiobooks but a warning says 'do you want to remove existing songs from other itunes library? and I don't want to do this.

How can I find an audiobook on my 4th gen shuffle? Can't find it even when I play in order. When I try to tick Sync audiobooks it asks if I want to continue to remove existing music befoer syncing and I don't want to do that. Can anyone help?

Did you already load the audiobook manually (by dragging it to the shuffle)?  To confirm that the audiobook is on the shuffle...
Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar.  If the sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle name (in the sidebar) to drop down its content list, indented below the shuffle.  Click on Audiobooks there.  To the right, your audiobook(s) should be listed.
NOTE:  if you don't see Audiobooks on the content list, there are no audiobooks on the shuffle.
When you turn ON the shuffle, you are playing from the default All Songs list.  Audiobooks (and podcasts) do not play from the All Songs list.  You need to use VoiceOver to select the audiobook from the playlist menu.  This document explains how to set up and use VoiceOver on your shuffle

  • 2nd gen shuffle wouldn't sync - fixed it (for me)

With 2nd gen shuffle, changed computers, downloaded ITunes 9, created new playlists, got all ready... and shuffle won't sync. Would start syncing, then quit after trying a couple songs, then some kind of error - folder not found or something like that. Tried it over and over in different variations. Looked thru google and tried resetting ipod, uninstall/reinstalling itunes (couple times), uninstalled intunes 9 and used itunes 7 (which someone recommended), searched thru apple support and tried things - same problem. Noticed in Explorer that the Ipod wasn't being detected consistently - would show briefly, then disappear so figured there was some problem with the computer recognizing the device, even though IPOD was recognized in ITunes. Went to Apple discussions looking for "recognizing ipod" and found http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369; which I had seen earlier, but blew it off as not relevant because ipod was recognized in ITunes.
For me, appears that I didn't have shuffle connected to a high-power USB port - just plugged it into first one I saw, which wasn't high-power; did change ports earlier, but didn't know I had high-power ones (or needed them) available in another part in the back of computer. Changed ports and it worked - synced up like it used to.
Hope this helps others - I spent 3 days researching internet, trying variety of different things and being PO'ed - and music-less.

I think it was just that itunes was running- but can't disable that.  I ended up just taking about 30 mins to delete each song individually from the shuffle. Hopfully it will work for the kiddo we are giving it too.  Thanks for your suggestion!

  • 4th Gen shuffle not recognized by Mac OS. What's wrong?

I've been through two 4gen shuffles within a week. Connected them to my NEW MacBook Pro, with up-to-date iTunes. Say's they're currupted. Restore won't work. Tried the connection on another Mac, same thing.
Just for the heck of it, I connected it to my work "Windows" machine and iTune for Window's recognizes it just fine.  What's wrong?
This shuffle should just work on my Mac with no issues! Not happy, not happy at all.

After a trip to the Apple and over two hours with three different Apple speciaists, not luck in resolving this issue. The 4th Gen shuffle is not recognized. The Apple Store confirms that the Shuffle is fine and works on their Macs in the store.
    Steps taken so far...
Removed iTunes and re-installed twice, did not resolve the issue.
    Removed Symantec Norton Security Suite.
Performed an Archive Install of Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard
Ran various disk utilities, still than same.  The Apple Disk utilitiy continuely shows errors on the shuffle.
Tried the shuffle on my wifes new 27" iMac, the same thing happens on her Mac.
Multiple restores through iTunes, no luck.

  • My 4th gen shuffle does not play more then one type of podcast It will only play this american life even if I have the moth on it.  It play what ever is first on the list

My 4th gen shuffle only plays the first category of podcast and will not go to the next category, it will only repeat. Example:it will play all pod casts of this american life(first on the list) and not got to the moth (second category on the list).  It does not work like my old shuffle.

if you make a playlist and load the podcasts in the order you want to listen to them, it will work.  In effect you are double syncing.  I had the same problem and got it to work

  • IPod Shuffle Won't Sync On Computer -- Help !

I have the 2nd gen of iPod shuffle. & I'm using Windows XP.
I don't know why but the shuffle won't sync onto my computer.
It used to before but it doesn't work anymore.
I've tried restoring it with the iPod Reset Utility but it said it won't mount. Also, when I tried connecting it to iTunes, it said that the files were corrupted.
So I tried restoring it there too but it would never finish, even after a few hours.
And another problem is that it won't show up as a hard drive on "my computer."
But when I take it to my brother's computer, the iPod shuffle works.
Is there a way to make it sync onto my computer?
Because all the songs are on my computer and I'll have to send them over to my brother's computer.
Which will take a really long time.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Charging 4th gen shuffle

Can I use the charger from my 2nd gen shuffle, to charge my 4th gen shuffle?

    jmb48167 wrote:
Ok, thanks! The one that comes with it (3.5mm/USB) is short, leaving it dangling from the charger, so I wasn't sure if that's my only option...
AppleStore will be happy to sell you a longer cable:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC003ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MTA4MjUwNDg
The Apple iPod shuffle USB Cable connects your iPod shuffle (3rd and 4th generation) to your computer's USB port for syncing and battery charging and to the Apple USB Power Adapter for convenient charging from a wall socket.
Two cables are included, both with a 3.5-mm jack on one end and a USB connector on the other. The shorter cable is the same length as the USB cable that comes with iPod shuffle. The longer cable is perfect for connecting iPod shuffle to the back of a desktop computer or to a power adapter plugged into a wall socket.
Compatible with iPod shuffle (3rd and 4th generation).

  • TS1369 Since I have connected by iphone 5s to my computer my 4th gen shuffle is not appearing in itunes when it is connected. It doesn't seem to be a USB issue as the ipod is charging when it is connected to the PC.

Since connecting my new 5s my 4th gen shuffle is not recognised by itunes.
The device is not appearing in 'my computer' but is receiving power as it is charging.
I never had this issue with my 4s.
I have tried the troubleshooting with no success.
If anyone has any suggestions on what settings I need to change or what I need to do this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help.

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Also see these (if you haven't found them already):
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes
