My 580EX II only exposes correctly in bounce mode :-0

I noticed that my speedlight underexposes (by at least 2 stops) in the normal flash head configuration. Once I place any kind of an upward bounce on the strobe, I get a correct exposure. It exposes correctly in the left/right bounce configuration. It also underexposes in the 7 degree down position as well. I noticed this when I had an external battery source attached to flash. I disconnected it and the flash was still underexposed with fresh batteries. I did a "reset settings" on the camera and it still did not fix the problem. :-/
Any thoughts?

I called Canon and "solved" the problem. I put solved in quotes because I still don't know what caused the problem. Prior to posting and calling Canon I reset the camera settings and that did not help. When I called Canon and told the tech of the problem, he was scratching his head too. Then he asked me if I reset the speedlight. I told him no, because I didn't think there was anything to reset, but just to humor him, I reset the flashhead. I have no idea what that did (it did not reset any custom functions, nor change settings on the display that I could see), but after the "reset", my speedlight worked fine. I would like to say that I had it on some whacky setting, but it's funny how no one could diagnose the problem. The only other cause that I could think of was a faulty speedlight in which a reset fixed. I'll be keeping an ey on it to see if the probelem replicates in the future.
If anyone out there needs to reset their speedlight, go into the menu and select: "external speedlight control" and then push the "set" button, bringing up the next menu. Select: "flash function settings." This will bring you into another menu with "flash mode" as a defaulted selection (however, any one of those selections in that menu will work) Push in the "info" button on the camera and you will get a "Clear all Speedlight settings" prompt. click "ok."

Although there is one little thing that I've noticed. The iMac works properly, but I tried to software update to see if that may help my Minecraft sound issue (as I still don't think only having 2GB instead of 4GB would cause such a problem) but the software update application won't work. Running the "Software Update" from the apple menu on the toolbar gains no response, nothing happens. If I run the software update from system preferences, the application icon appears for a second, then disappears (as in the blank app. icon, the blank canvas with the pencil, pen and ruler in the bottom right corner). It does this every time I try to run it. It did work when the computer was crashing, but this started when on one of the occasions I ran the app. while it was crashing. Since this occured during the crashes, and still occurs now, I'm wondering did something simlar happen minecraft, as it's sound disappeared during the crashes and is still gone now.
However, the computer is now working again without crashes, which is the main thing, thanks for helping me fix the issue

I already ried the following: zap pram// open-firmware startup// repair permissions// turned off all startup items// disabled automatic login// tried booting from startup disk// started up in single user mode - it said all is fine - but it could not boot// connected via firewire to my other computer and ran disk warrier from my other computer - it said all was fine
STILL - cannot startup normally. can ONLY start up in safe mode. Suggestions please

Tecra 8100 only boot up in safe mode

I seem to have lost the display drivers to my Tecra 8100.
Since I attempted to use an extra screen which worked fine until I came to boot up the following day when it would only boot up in Safe Mode.
What have I done wrong and how can I rectify it?
Driver detective doesn't work, just comes up as having performed an illegal action.

I'm afraid that it seems that Toshiba no longer provide the drivers for the Tecra 8100 as it's such an old computer, around 12 years old. I have been on the Toshiba website and tried again on the site you suggested but to no avail. Sorry about that but am still hunting.

Hi. I am in need of advice - and am not very IT savvy! I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8 OS. A site I use every day told me today it would only open in 32-bit mode. I researched and found some advice on how to choose 32-bit mode in system preferences. I do not have that box to click in system preferences. Can anyone tell me as to why suddenly this has happened, and any suggestions on how to go back to 32-bit mode would be great! I did try restarting holding down the 3 & 2 keys as suggested too. No luck. Thanks for any help.

Does the site use 32-bit mode Java? If that's the case, you should have both 32 and 64-bit enabled though Java Preferences in your Utilities folder:

I have a PSD file open and I added a new layer via the copy command. I have added a Layer Mask to the new layer and I'm trying to use the Brush Tool with black forground to cover part of the new layer. I'm following an online tutorial step by step, but when I try to use the Brush Tool I get "could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode". The Image>Mode is set to RGB. I'm stuck!

First, show the tools optiond in the bottom of the screen (shortcut F4)
Now look at which of the three options you can select, brush, impressionist brush or replacement tool. I suspect you have to select the brush.

The reason of the message is that when you are painting on a mask you are in greyscale mode for the mask. For instance, if you paste a coloured layer into a mask, it will be converted to greyscale.

After installing Acrobat 8, can only open Word in safe mode

After installing Acrobat 8, can only open Word in safe mode. If I delete my customized Normal.dot, then all is well. However I want the macros available from the customized Normal.dot. I tried switching Templates after opening Word and it immediately triggers an error message: "Word has encountered a problem and needs to close." It then recovers all my recent documents even though they were fine, had no need to be saved. Thinking that Normal.dot had been corrupted, I went back to the original M$ Normal.dot and re-created my macros and saved as a new Normal.dot. The next time I open Word, I get the error message.
I have a template with only one macro. It does not cause this problem. The template I prefer has 3 macros and I will need to create more.

I am told by my company's IT folks that the problem resides with Office 2003 sp3. If you remove SP3 and revert to SP2, the issue vanishes, so they say (I have not done it yet).
M$ is possibly ignoring the issue permanently, since they are on a new initiative to unseat PDF in favor of their own document format they're working on presently. I've sent a million error reports to them and....NOTHING.

What i would like to do is a simple button with an action method, This button is initialized, created, assigned to its action method and shown ONLY in Debug and AdHoc modes. So as a developer or tester, i can see the button, but in the release, the client won't be able to see that button.
What i did so far is the following:
-In my project-->Build Settings Tab, i set the Debug values to 1 in both Debug and Adhoc, like this:
-Then i opened up the prefix.pch file, and there, i am blocked and i don't know what to do.
Basically, my action method is something like this:
UIButton btnSwitch=[[UIButton alloc]init];
//Etc...
The above code should be called in a specific file (The UIViewController class which should contain the button).
How can i do that, i mean, how can i tell my application to execute that code in a specifi file only in DEBUG and Adhoc modes.

Welcome to the 'wonderful' world of HTML5 e-learning.
In my view, from the issues I am seeing everywhere, HTML5 output from rapid e-learning tools such as Captivate is not ready for the kind of mobile device e-learning you want to develop.
Sorry to be pessimistic, but you may need to consider going back to the drawing board and coding it from the ground up.

New OS 3gs wiped out contacts now only operate in Emergency Call mode

HELP!!! I installed the new OS on my 3gs last night. This morning I noticed all contacts wiped out. So I tried to do a restore and now I'm getting error messages in iTunes and my phone will ONLY operate in Emergency call mode. I need help PLEASE!!

Unfortunately that's where the problem started I keep getting and unknown error everytime I try to Sync up. This keeps happening after I did the restore in iTunes. I've turned off the phone, logged out of itunes and I keep getting the same error about error -9812

Because GPS has nothing to do with WiFi, cellular signals, or data of any sort. GPS is implemented by signals sent by satellites that are received by GPS receivers. The receivers process the information from the GPS satellites and calculate your location. GPS never sends data anywhere; GPS functionality is receive only.
If you have WiFi or cellular data turned on this can improve the accuracy of GPS, because the GPS receiver can then use the known location of cell towers and WiFi networks to refine the GPS location. GPS by itself has an accuracy of 10 meters, or about 34 feet. Using the additional information from WiFi and cellular data this can be brought down to 3 meters (10 feet). This mode is called Augmented GPS, or A-GPS.
