My 6-week-old iPod simply died. No response even to power source. What gives?

I was playing my ipod 7G on a Bluetooth speaker. I paused play to take a phone call. Came back, and the ipod, which had been nearly fully charged, had ceased functioning. Black screen, not responsive to any buttons or to plugging into power source. Dead in the water. Is this a known problem with 7G?

Yes, it happens to some units. Have you tried the reset?

  • Old Ipod,New computer.No response.Is it Window's Vista's fault?

Alright here is my problem: I have been syncing music into my two year old ipod nano on my old computer. My old computer died a year ago, however,so my ipod hasn't received new music for an entire year.I finally get a new laptop a few weeks ago and am ready to start a new. I've downloaded the latest itunes and then I plug my ipod in and absolutley nothing happens. The little image of the ipod doesn't appear,it doesn't charge, and it isn't even asking if I want to replace my old music with the new music I've compiled on my itunes. I've tried switching on and off hold and I've pressed menu and select at the same time. Still nothing happens.I don't have time to go to a store for help so please HELP ME!!

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

  • Trying to restore ipod, demanding I attach to the external power source.

I have been given a 2nd hand 20gb ipod photo, 4g. It would not sync to my itunes, instead it would get about 30 songs in and cancel itself. I have tried to restore the ipod to the original factory settings using itunes and it is now demanding that I plug it into the external power source to complete the restore. I have only a variety of speaker systems, all of which serve to charge other ipods (Nano, Shuffle etc) but these are not being recognised by the ipod, the display of which remains showing a picture of a plug and socket. Can anyone offer some advice as to what to do?

Your iPod is not an iPod Classic and when updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see this icon displayed.
It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.
    No power adaptor? Try this.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • Are u kidding me! I drop my 2-week old ipod touch and glass breaks!!!!

Yes, I dropped my iPod touch - it's my fault. I was simply trying to put my iPod back in the original casing for safe storage and while trying to close the lid the iPod slipped out and hit the ground - wonder my amazement when I saw the glass completely shattered.  You would think with the advancements in technology why is the screen actually glass.  I just bought my iPod touch on November 1st and now the face is shattered.  It *****!!!! I'm not clumsy and I can count on one hand the times I've dropped my high-end cell phone and never once did the phone(s) stop working or the face break or crack.  I'm ****** that I paid $200 for this piece of equipment that is basically useless to me now.  Apple needs to rethink the glass face of these devices to withstand reasonable incidentals like dropping it on occasion.  And no, I did not purchase the insurance but knowing insurance, this would not have been covered.

Sorry to hear about this. While the iPod isn't any more or less prone to damage when dropped, it depends more on what part of the iPod hits he hard surface first. For example, a drop on the corner is more likely to cause damage than a near flat fall to the back of the iPod. All that being said, you can check with an Apple Store, an internet search or local service provider about a repair. I have seen places advertising repairs starting at about $100, not exactly pocket change, but less than a new iPod. I have seen the watch repair shop in the local mall advertising screen replacements for iPhones, iPods, Droids and other touch screen devices.

  • Please help I am about to break my 2 week old Ipod because it has frozen

My Ipod froze when I connected it to my computer and the computer isn't recognizing it. I tried holding the middle button to reset it, but that isn't working. PLEASE HELP. Do I need to send it away?

To reset it toggle the hold button a few times then, with it not in hold of course, hold both the centre and menu buttons down together for at least six seconds to reset it.

  • FROZEN Brand New Week Old iPod Nano 3rd Generation!!!!

I just got this ipod. I was listening to music.. and went to plug it in. Then I did, and it FROZE. It wont move, the hold isnt on. Ive tried every button, plugging it back in.. and so much more. It wont show up in my computer and it doesnt respond to anything i do. No, i havent dropped it or anything. Ive been treating it like royalty. Help!

I've only had mine just over a month. I just connected it to the USB to update and it froze on me. It thinks it's locked, but I've toggled the lock back and forth numerous times (as it says to on the support page). The backlight remains on, and menu+select does nothing, no matter how long I hold my fingers down. Plugging it into the charger and back into the Mac did nothing either. I'm guessing it's a case of just waiting for the battery to run out.
It's going to have to go back, isn't it? grumble

  • MY 6 WEEK OLD IPHONE HAS DIED

I took my iphone back into carphone warehouse after 2 weeks to tall them of faults, the screen was locking, it would jump like a broken television sometimes, loose sound. The very unhelpful assistant stated that if i reset the phone this would resolve it, and as a result they would not replace the handset.
Today after the phone playing up, i connected my phone to my macbook to sync the new update. The phone is now in "restore mode", which means it gives me the connect to itunes as if the handset was brand new, however, when connecting to itunes it states its in restore mode and cannot connect.
so...... now im left with no phone at all, the carphone warehouse turned me away, and ive had it 6 weeks, so no replacement. ive been advised to go into the apple shop, can anyone help?

What error code is it presenting when you try to restore?
CPW was correct - Apple handles all iPhone replacements. For the fastest fix, take the phone there and they will replace it.

  • My itouch 4 is a week old and is randomly shutting off even when fully charged. Should I send it back? I'm a busy new mother and don't have time to tinker around trying to reset it and shouldn't have to since it is brand new???? What do you suggest?

My brand new ipod touch i bought last week is suddenly randomly shutting off. Its fully charged. I havent upgraded to 5 yet because ive read of problems with loosing apps and ive already added many paid apps. I havent backed them up to my pc yet because im a brand new mom and very busy. Same reason im hoping i dont have to tinker around with this problem myself... Its brand new??? My camera randomly went black yesterday but is fine today but now it keeps shutting off. Should I send it back? Please help?!?!

How hard is to Reset it?  A lot less hard than returning it.  Just hold down the On/off and Home buttons for atleast 10 seconds until the apple apears and then wait for it to reset.  If this doesn't work and you don't want to try restoring it, take it back to Apple.

  • IPod Touch not charging in any external power sources?

About a year and a half ago, I had an issue with syncing/charging my iPod touch (2nd gen I think? There's no camera on it) in my computer (Dell Studio 1700 PC). It charged everywhere else, the wall, my alarm clock dock...
I was told to update my device drivers and that resolved the problem. I was able to charge/sync in my computer again. But since I updated the drivers, it stopped charging in the wall/dock. There was no software upgrade during this time, although there has been in the months following.
Any way I can get it to charge everywhere again? I've seen suggestions that newer models don't fit old connections, but none of my accessories were incompatible at the time of purchase.

I upgraded my software to what iTunes said was the most recent version in an attempt to troubleshoot as well, but there was no change.

  • My ipod touch  went fully dead and wont power up what do i do ?

ok so my ipod is a 3gr and it died, and when i put it on the charger the big red charge symbol came up with a bolt of lighting under it and next the apple logo came up but it keeps shuting of and going to the charge symbol with the bolt and then the apple logo

Does it do anything at all? Try connecting it to the computer. If not, hold down the power and home buttons for 10 sec, let go of the power button and carry on holding the home button for 15 sec. Let go and connect to the computer.

  • Certain MP3s will not play on my iPod despite reset, mp3 conversion, resetting tags, etc.  What gives?

I had this problem with my last iPod too but it's particularly egregious this time around.  These are mp3s that I ripped from my own CDs and that worked for a while and then just stopped.  It's several thousand (my iPod is 120 GB and I'm a serious music fan).  This is super annoying and I'd like to find a way to fix it.  It will play songs and then just skip some.  If it is shuffling, it also fails to register the song that was played previously?
This has been an issue for several years with multiple iPod models.  Someone has to have some kind of explanation?  Please?

You haven't mentioned re-registering the DLL's in windows xp which is the suggested fix on Windows XP for ipod's doing this.
Disconnect the iPod from the computer and close iTunes.
Copy the 10 lines below (highlight and ctrl+c or right-click and copy)
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
    Open notepad:
    1. Start>Run
    2. Type 'notepad'
    3. Hit return
Paste the text into notepad (ctrl+v or right-click and paste)
Save the file as registerdll.bat on your desktop
    Close notepad
Doubleclick the registerdll.bat file on the desktop
A command prompt will appear and these items will be processed. When it is finished you can delete the batch file.
See if it then syncs okay.
