my mother thought unlimited also meant data and now they're all telling her at verizon that she can't go back to her unlimited data plan. your marketing is so confusing!  shes stressed over 1gb of data now!

Now wait a minute....Your mother wanted MORE data when she had unlimited data in the first place? Then as much empathy for her present plight of now being restricted to 1 Gig (for $20 more a month to boot, poor lady) I believe this mistake is on her for failing to think more carefully to what she had, was giving up and jumping into.  I don't find these plans confusing at all. Do I justify them? Absolutely not.  Furthermore I noticed when I went to the plans section of the website, that individual plans were no longer offered. This sent up red flags, telling me that should I switch, I might not be able to go back to the old plans which were apparently "grandfathered." 
My point is, that a little careful research and reasoning could have avoided this unfortunate mistake on your mother's part. Of course, this is all part of Verizon's plan to cattle drive people into the new higher-revenue plans anyway. It's all a carefully engineered paradigm of restriction to get what they want. Higher ARPU's, returns for their shareholders, and fatter bonuses and salaries for the fat-cat corporate execs. What the consumer wants here is irrelevant.

    Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported.     Not a great analogy, but this is a user-to-user forum, and Apple will not allow discussion of jailbreaking; if someone tried to help with jailbreaking the message would be deleted. However, if you have a jailbroken phone Apple will generally not block a discussion of how to unjailbreak it. The only problem is that not all jailbroken phones can be restored successfully; it depends on the method of jailbreaking (which I can't discuss without THIS message being deleted).

    I used Avast and Malwarebytes. The computer was severly infected with the FBI virus. I had to do a repair reinstall of Windows 7. The client is upset about her iPod, which at this point is the only thing still having a problem. I'm not familiar with Apple products, but I told her I would research it.

    Try force quiting the app.  From the users guide:
    Force quit an app:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
    until a red slider appears, then press and hold the Home  button until the app quits.
    You can also remove an app from the recents list to force it to quit. See “Opening and
    Switching Apps” on page 23.

    You should ask your relative to physically take the iPhone to the store rather than shipping it because as diesel vdub has said:
    "No Apple store will accept an iPhone shipped to them"
    All you have to do is safely pack and ship your iPhone from the Philppines to your California-based relative.

    Try deleting the song and downloading it again from the iTunes Store.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

  • Can you move files back and forth between an iPad and a PC using iTunes?

    If I read this article correctly, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094 I should be able to connect my iPad to my PC, fire up iTunes and then on the Apps tab in iTunes I should be able to click on an app, Pages for example and then just drag files onto the Pages Documents column from a Windows Explorer window.
    This is great.  I was hoping to use DropBox but it is such a hassle I don't know why people are so thrilled with DropBox on iPad.  If I can just move files back and forth using iTunes that should be fairly easy.  I wish there was a way to just upload my files to iCloud from my PC but the iCloud control panel app for Windows only seems to connect Outlook, Photostream and Bookmarks. I want to be able to just carry my iPad and not have to deal with a computer. 
    I thought that they said that you didn't need to have a computer to have an iPad.  I guess if you have a computer and then GET an iPad its a different story, unless you have a Mac of course.
    Anyway my question is: can you move files back and forth between a PC and an iPad using just iTunes?

    I still need to do some trial and error testing with DropBox and my iPad.  But can I link my iPad to my DropBox account so that I can always see the files on DropBox when I open Pages on my iPad?  I just want one place to store my documents, and iCloud doesn't seem to be up to the task when it comes to opening a fil;e, editing it and then saving it back to iCloud.  I just want a networked storage location that works like a networked drive on my LAN.
    I realize that hollywood and the music industry are up in arms about file sharing on the Cloud which is why so many things are made more difficult than they need to be.

    There is no other way than to plug into a computer to restore the phone. You can use another computer to do so, but in case you did not back up to iCloud your data and settings will be gone.

    On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
    Deselect the box next to:  Notes
    Then reselect it.
    Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.

    The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
    The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
    This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
    If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

    I take it this was during a call? Close the app and open it again.
    Failing that, and when the call is over, do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank. Be patient, the device will power ON again in the normal way. It is app and data safe!]
