My 6th generation volume decreases on its own.

My 6th gen. nano's volume decreases on its own.

Yes. You probably have a short in either your earbud wires or the headphone socket of the iPod. Try a different headset to isolate the problem. If it's inside the iPod, I use De-Ox-It on a tiny swab to clean the contacts. If it's the earbuds, just get a new pair.

  • Main "Play Control" volume changes on its own when I open and close WinDVD or Winfast

Main "Play Control" volume changes on its own when I open these programs, and when they're closed the main volume resets to where it was before the program was opened.
Surely I'm not the only one who has had this problem before.. I've had the problem with both Creative soundcards I've owned, before and after different drivers installations.
It can be very irritating and can potentially lead to damaged speakers if I'm not paying close attention to what my various volume knobs are set at before and after I open these programs.
I appreciate any and all input, thankyou.

  • IPod Nano 6th Generation Volume Button Issue

The "-" volume button on my iPod Nano 6th generation is stuck in the "on" or depressed position against the case. It looks like the button either is binding against the case, or a spring-like mechanism beneath the button is broken.
Any ideas on how to fix the issue short of taking it in for a service appointment?  Maybe by opening the case?

If you open it or have a 3rd party repair site work on it you will no longer be eligible for an out-of-warranty replacement from Apple at a price of $65/$75 (make a Genius Bar appointment before going.
You can buy the switch and replace it but be sure you are up to it. Check http://www.ifixit.com for teardown instructions.

  • Nano 6th generation volume will not increase above a whisper on either docker or headphones. volume showing full

6th generation ipod can only hear whisper of sound in headphones and nothing on docker and volume is fully turned up?

Try restoring your device in iTunes. If that does not work you will need to get it serviced.

  • I pod nano 6th generation volume buttons no longer work

I got a quote from apple and they want 80$ to fix an ipod with a crappily built button.  This is my second ipod nano 6th gen within the past year, my last one had the same button problem but it was with the power button.  I don't abuse them.
How do i go about getting a new 6th gen without paying 80$ for a design flaw.

    Hello,
Have you should made sure your permissions are repaired? If your permissions are wrong, then you will likely have trouble.
I found that it found several audio related permissions needing correction on my system after the update. Since repairing permissions, everything has been fine.
So, go into "Disk Utility" in the Applications --> Utilities folder and repair your permissions.
Start by selecting your hard drive on the left window of Disk Utility. Then, go down and click on the "Repair Permissions" button. Once it's completed, then exit Disk Utility.
Then, go ahead and restart the computer and see how it works.
    I hope this helps.

  • Ringer volume mutes on its own

I've noticed that sometimes when I use the side switch to silence the ringer and then switch back again, my ringer volume (in Settings) is zeroed out. So in effect, the quick switching of the ringer off and on again doesn't do the job but keeps the phone in silent mode. Is this a bug?

It is a known problem. Contact Apple iPhone Support to return your phone for repair or replacement.

  • My ipod 6th generation volume button got stuck!

My ipod was just fine and I listened to it and then I went to turn the volume up for a good song that came on and the button didn't work. I looked at it more carefully and the button appears to be jammed in. The button to turn the volume down works just fine. The settings has it so that the volume limit is as high as it can go, but I can hardly hear it. Help!

There is a simpler way to go about it. Try cleaning it with alcohol and cotton swab. The buttons accumulate dust and sweat around it and get jammed. I had similar problem and tried it and the buttons work !
    Good Luck !

Hello, my ipod nano 6th generation is with the black screen, now restored, already pressed for 8 seconds and decrease volume botação start and not resolved, can someone help?

  • 6th gen iPod Nano volume keeps going down on its own

It's been getting worse lately. It started happening towards the end of each of my run, but now even when I leave it on my desk, I can see the volume just move down on its own to zero. It is very unreliable and during long runs, I have to keep battling with the volume (it goes down on its own, and I have to bring it back up again). Shutting the iPod Nano off and turning it back on doesnt help.
Anyone else encounters this? What should I do? My iPod Nano is about 1 year old.

This issue is usually the result of the Nano coming into contact with moisture (likely from your workouts).  Try putting the iPod into an uncooked bag of dried rice and leaving it sit for a few days.  This should absorb any moisture in the iPod.
After the few days are up, give it another whirl.  If the problem persists, connect the Nano to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.
Otherwise, the damage may be permanent, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced or replaced.

  • 6th gen. Nano volume decrease button repair

Is it possible to get a repair if my volume decrease button won't work?
If yes, then how do I do that? How do I notify Apple? What would be the "requirements?"

    Howdy Hemi,
It sounds like you are setting the volume to the desired level, but it keeps going all the way down on its own after some time. I would start by resetting the iPod Nano 6th gen:
    Reset your iPod
Test the issue again after resetting to see if that resolved it. If it does not, then I would next recommend using the following article to restore the software and try it again.
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Volume turns down on its own

    Hi,
I have a weird problem with my wife's iMac Dual Core.
The volume has started turning itself down to zero after a short while of use, leaving the Speaker < ))) indicator display on screen, but with no volume indicated.
If I use the menu bar volume at the top right to increase it, it immediately decreases back to zero.
If I do a reboot and go back in again, it seem to fix for a short time, but. the decreases down again.
I suspect its something to do with the keyboard Vol down button bring stuck in some way on the (wireless) UK Keyboard we use, but the Keyboard Viewer does not show these keys so cant tell its its being "pressed"... Another reason for suspecting its a "stuck" key is that it does it in a click-click-click tempo (decreasing) similar if not identical to the keyboard repeat interval.
The weirdest bit is that the volume keys and controls work normally after reboot... for a short while...
No other keys appear to be affected, and the rest of the system appears to be working fine.
Thanks in advance for any guidance...
    Martin

    Greetings from Mexico!
So glad to run into your post as I have a similar problem: the volume up key appears to be randomly stuck, such that every now and then, on its own, it will go all the way up to the highest setting and remain there. The gray volume indicator persists on my screen, and the only way to make it disappear is to reboot the computer.
I attempted your solution and the problem seemed to go away and now it's back. Since the file you mentioned is gone...
    com.apple.soundpref.plist
... I don't know where else to tinker.
Curiously, if I disconnect my USB keyboard, the problem goes away, but it manifests itself so randomly I seriously doubt it's a hardware problem.
Left to try is borrowing a keyboard from office and replacing it, but I hope somebody on this forum has a good answer.

  • How do i get my Ipod 6th generation to show up on itunes, then restore without telling me its corrupt!

Hi, so the story is about a month ago i had brought in my Ipod 6th generation in to an apple store because the sleep button was stuck down (that ipod was from this past christmas). It was under warenty so I got another one free, but now this new one wont
    1. Show up on Itunes
    2. When it rarely does (it shows up randomly even when its not plugged in) It says its corrupted. I hit restore and that bar goes on forever!
Ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes tons of times and that doesnt work, ive restarted my computer which doesnt help. ive reseted my ipod by the buttons and the settings hundreds of times! Disk mode ive gone into but i dont really know whats supposed to happen after i plug it in. I have added songs to my library after my old ipod broke and before i got the new one if that makes a difference. My old ipod (6 generation) worked fine on my labtop with no troubles at all so im ripping my hair out trying to figure out what i need to do.

Ipod NANO, forgot to mention that.

  • The volume increase button is stuck on my iPod nano (6th Generation) and I can't turn the volume up. Is there a way to fix it?

I have the iPod nano 6th generation, and I have had it since Christmas 2011 so it isn't that old; recently I went to listen to my music and found that the volume increase button is stuck (basically it's like when you press the volume button down to increase the volume, except it is stuck down like that and won't come back up) but it was only stuck about 3/4 of the way down. For about a week this was ok, I just had to press the button harder to make it go down and increase the volume, but now it won't increase the volume at all and it feels and looks as though the button is stuck the whole way in, even when I press the button with some force. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could fix it or if I need to take it to an apple store for them to fix it?!
Sorry if the way I have explained the problem is confusing, it's difficult to explain but it's extremely frustrating.

This happened to me a few weeks ago.  Instead of taking it to the Apple store and paying $ the 99 service charge ( I did give Apple 139.00 13 months ago! for this ipod), I saturated the end of a q-tip w/ WD 40 and carfefully rubbed around the perimeter of the power button.  I waited a half hour and then cleaned of the excess WD 40.  This unstuck my power button.  I guess the WD 40 dissovled all the dirt under and around (also the consrtuction of the buttons is done w/ double sided tape-- maybe a design issue) the button.  A friend tried isopropyl alcohol w/ great results.  Try this before you give Appple any more $$ or get a new ipod.  It's been 6 wks. and my button functions perfectly,

  • My 6th generation ipod nano volume adjusts itself and turns down volume without me touching it.  This is the second ipod on which this has happened. I can't be the only one with this problem. Help!

My ipod nano 6th generation has started changing the volume while music is playing. It doesn't matter whether I am running or sitting.  It will turn volume down to zero in the middle of a song.  This happened on my last ipod a few months ago and I returned it and got a new one.  This is my second grey one.  I don't want to have to return it again, but I might.

Take your iPod Nano back to the Apple Store.  Let them see what you are seeing.  Only this time............
Prior to leaving the Apple Store:    ***Make sure you have the store staff power the iPod Nano up and demonstrate that it is indeed working properly to your satisfaction.***
