My "7 days old" Zen Micro is dead..

I just buy a new Zen Micro from ebay last week... Now I have a problem with Power switch. I can't turn on/off... Can somebody tell me where is the nearest service center? I li've in Southampton, UK

Creative's European service center is in Dublin, Ireland; the number is available from the Creative UK site, or you can email them from there. And you'll probably need a paper (not email) receipt showing you got it from a legitimate retailer, or else you won't get warranty service. (A pitfall of buying from eBay...)

Worked perfectly for first 2 days. Then yesterday it started freezing when I tried to shut it down. Today after I took the battery out it said "Hardware Problem" and won't allow me to do anything else (or go into the repair screen). I guess I have to return it.

Thanks for the info. I have to hand it to Amazon: I went online this morning to Amazon.com and clicked to submit my claim for a replacement. In the comments area I said that if they could send me out a new one one-day service I would take it, otherwise I just wanted a refund. I already got the notification that a new one was sent one-day mail, with no charges at all (shipping or otherwise). The link had a UPS label to put on my old box so I can ship it back for free. That's great service to me! Actually more convenient than if I had bought it from a store!

• 1 Year old Zen Micro club - limited membership

Hey forum...
Exactly one year ago, I got really excited about the Zen Micro. I had seen it in the shop on Friday 3 Dec 2004, and decided to look up some info about it in the evening on the Net. I liked what I read, so on Saturday 4 Dec 2004, I took the train back to Brussels, bought the ZM, and started a wonderful year of music listening
So, if your Zen Micro is year old, post here too. Preferably, doing so day-to-day one year after getting it.
It's not the 8 mile high club, but it's a special feeling anyway

• 9 month old Zen Micro with the headphone jack problem

So, I've been putting up with the headphone jack problem for a few months now, and i've finally decided to get it repaired or fixed. I emailed Creative a few months back and they told me to send it in. My question is, since I am out of warranty, will they repair the unit or send me a whole new one all together?
thanks,
mike

Actually, I just sent in my 7-month old Micro in b/c of the headphone jack problem and they sent me a brand new shrink-wrapped one. They didn't charge me for anything. All I had to do was wait 2 weeks for them to send it back to me (grueling but doable) and pay about 2.44 for shipping the micro to them. So now I'd have three batteries if it weren't for the fact that one of them swelled up; I have NO IDEA how that happened. So yeah I guess the point of the post is that you don't get charged anything even if you're out of the 90-day labor warranty.

• Zen Micro is dead...what ne

Here I sit looking at a totally useless, nonfunctional ZenMicro 5GB. Bought it for my 6 yo daughter for Christmas....she was so happy...used it effortlessly for 2 weeks, bragged to all her friends who got ipods how much better hers was, then the thing suddenly died. Will not charge or go into recovery, have updated firmware, drivers, yada, yada...
Now I am waiting for a RMA to send the thing back to Creative after dinking around back & forth with their technical support for a little over a week. The retailer (staples) would not accept it back after Jan 7, and of course our problems started just a few days after that.
I am very disappointed... I researched the various Mp3s and thought i was getting the best one for the money. She has a friend with one that has raved on and on about hers. I suppose I am just unlucky and got a bad unit.
have any of you had experience with this return process...how long does it take and were you ultimately satisfied? Are they going to make me pay for shipping the defecti've unit back?
And why in the h*@ll]h*ll dont they have a toll-free number for support? I am left trying to resolve this by email and it seems to take 2 days each time for a reply.

Well, I have gone through the RMA process twice now (once almost immediately after receiving my player and once quite recently). I have been totally satisfied both times. Basically, you'll need to send the player to Creative's RMA center where they'll take a look at it, diagnose the problem, and likely send you a replacement unit (of course, they reserve the right to fix or replace your unit). For me, the entire process took about a week and a half from shipping it out to receiving a replacement. You will have to pay for shipping to them but they'll cover the cost of shipping back to you.
That's the basic overview. Obviously, more detailed info will be sent to you with your RMA number which, from what you've said, you may already have received. As a reminder, whatever is on the player will likely be lost. So either a) back up your music and files to your computer or b) if you can't access the player at all (I believe this is your problem) you hopefully have all the files already duplicated elsewhere.
Good luck.

• 3 Day Old Macbook Pro. Dead pixel.

I just got a MBP and it has a dead pixel near the bottom and bit off center to the left. I´ve tried just about every thing to fix it, but nothing.
I called the place we bought it, and the stupid Apple policy can only replace it if it has 5 or more dead pixels. There is literally nothing I can do? It´s the most annoying thing ever. I shouldn`t have to pay thousands of dollars to have a fault screen, even if it is just one single pixel.

hard to say, it depends on the product and how much it cost.
If this happened to me again, and was a less expensive computer, I likely wouldn't care as much. It'd still bug the heck outta me, but I'd be able to learn to deal with it.
For what macs cost, I don't have any qualms or any guilt about expecting things to be pretty much perfect. I understand there will be things slightly wrong here and there due to mass production, but when its something glaringly obvious like a stuck/dead pixel, that's where I draw the line.
And besides, there is no publicly stated rule that says it has to be 5 dead/stuck pixels before a replacement/refund. I know Apple has that knowledge base article on stuck/dead pixels, but last I checked, it didn't stipulate any rules when trying to exchange/return a computer for dead pixels.
I can't say I agree with your statement about how few LCDs are perfect. Out of the entire time I've purchased electronics, I've only encountered just 2 instances of a stuck pixel. Perhaps I've just been lucky, I don't know, but I'm seriously not kidding.
Lastly at this point, it seems absurd to still think that stuck/dead pixels are acceptable due to cost. While this might have been the case a few years ago, if cost is the big reason as to why we're supposed to accept dead/stuck pixels, how is it possible that companies like Dell can offer a guarantee on no stuck/dead pixels for their LCDs?

• Three day old zen not working

I can't turn it off any longer, and the little bar thingy that shows you how much longer the song has to play no longer scrolls across the screen.
It was working earlier this evening, but when I used the removable storage thingy it stopped working.
I have my 'sleep' timer set to 5 mins, and my idle time set to 5 mins, and it has been paused for about 30 mins, and is not turining off...
Help!

If you're feeling insecured, you can just return the player and get a replacement set - creative has a 7 days -to- exchange programme. Contact customer support or your retailer before making the replacement.

• Day old Nano g5(?) dead?

My son got an ipod Nano yesterday. We plugged it into my iMac and followed the instruction. Not that there were many it just went straight into a sync mode thingy.
Anyway we put 15 songs on it to start with and away he went. He was headed into town and 1/2 way into town (a 2 1/2 hour drive) he said the screen went white and then it went dead.
I've plugged it back into my iMac and nothing. I've tried to reset it, nothing. I'm not sure what else to do next.
Any suggestions? Has this happened to you before?
Please help!

I'm a new nano user and I felt my nano was dead until I ran across this article. My nano just needed a reset.

• Zen Micro Frozen, No Touchpad, No Firmw

As you can probably tell by my message, i'm having more than my share of my 3-day old Zen Micro:
Please help me out with whatever you can, since Customer Support seems beduffled.
- It all started when my TouchPad froze. Joy.
2- Then, i couldn't restart becuase it won't shut down. I have to yank the battery out.
3- I tried holding down the 'off' button whilst i put the battery back in. But how can i restart without the touchpad?
4- Customer Support told me to d/l the version 2 firmware whilst in the recovery mode (the screen with 4 options). It didn't work, becuase the firmware wouldn't update whilst the player was connected to the USB port. However, once i disconnected the USB port, the firmware would start up, and then ofcourse freeze.
Customer Support told me to send it in, however; thought i'd try u guys.
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the reply,
I tried doing that on my laptop, but there's still a problem.
This sucks, i don't wanna send it back to Creative for repair when i just got it 3 days ago!!!!

• Zen Micro Freezes when USB plugged

My 5 day old Zen Micro 6 GB freezes when I plug it in with the USB cable. It freezes on the "Now Playing" screen. And then I get a little window that pops up on my desktop saying "USB device not recognized." The only way to un freeze it is to remove the battery.
I've also found that if I turn the player on, and have it in Menu, NOT playing any song, it will dock fine.
I'm using firmware 2..02.
I've tried (in this order)
Re-formatting with 2..02
Disk Clean up
Uninstalling EVERYTHING on my PC and then reinstalling it
Still getting the same error. I'm running WIN XP SP2.
Anyone offer any advice?Message Edited by pi534 on 06-9-2005 06:44 PM

The same problem happens with my 5 gb Zen Micro. But I have noticed that, it happens when I plug it to an USB port with extension cord. It never happens when I use it through my laptop's USB but in my Uni'versity's lab when I plug it in the USB port which is in front of the case by using an extra cable, it freezes. I have to turn the case around and directly connect to the USB. I don't know why but that's the solution I found

• Zen micro is de

Hi
I was listening to music with my 3 days old Zen Micro and as I was skipping a song it froze. I let it stay like that for a couple of minutes to see it it started again, but it didn?t. So i pulled out the battery, waited a bit, and reconnected it. But now the player wont start at all! And even not charge the battery. I have tried the recovery thing (hold in the powerswitch while connecting the battery), but nothing happens. I?m not able to connect the Zen to a computer at the moment, becasue I?m i gran canaria on vacation, and not going home for 2 weeks. Anybody have some smart tips? I really need my music!!!!
Thanks!!

• Zen Micro not getting powered

New Zen Micro 4GB Player. (2 days old)
Was working fine and now suddenly, it's not getting powered on.
Battery had enough power before it became dead.
Looking for some help on this issue.
Thanks
Krishna

Thanks.
Your suggestion brought my Zen Micro back to Life. I was really happy but it didn't last long. Because the touchpad seems to evoke no action on the player. I can perform the functions (like playing a song) through the Creative Software suite while being connected to the PC. Once disconnected from the PC, Zen Micro goes dead, though the the battery is adequately charged (for about three hours). Still could not power on using the touch pad power on option.
Awaiting your suggestion..

• Creative Zen Micro failing to boot

I'm stuck with my 3 month old Zen Micro failing to boot up. It gets stuck at a screen showing 'CREATIVE' and refuses to go further. It happened to fall from my hand to the ground a day previous to this. But immediately after it fell down, it was playing properly and I listened to a song before shutting it down. I tried charging it. It is not turning on or off. It will automatically discharge. My cousin bought this from the US. I am in India and I don't know if I can get any service centre to check for hardware troubles. Can you help me?

Unfortunately that does sound like a hardware problem. If it is broken because it was dropped then this would not normally be covered by warranty. For more information on warranty or possible repairs, you can contact Customer Support for India:
