My 8900 keeps rebooting

I've had my 8900 for just under a year, worked well for ages but for the last month it keeps rebooting every 5 mins and is very annoying!
I ran a OS update the other day which seemed to help, but it still does it at least once a day.
Any ideas?

Hi
If you updated OTA then you will have not wiped off the problem which might be caused by a reaction between the device software and an app.
This what I did to completely wipe my BB. I wrote this before starting and printed it off.
If your device is functioning, perform a backup now if you haven't already done so saving the file to a place and in a name that you can easily locate on computer.
I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer thus removing the OS for the BB from the computer in order to ensure that the version I would reinstall would be a brand new downloaded version.
Get the latest Desk Top Software (DTS)
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW
and install it on the computer.
Get the correct latest version of the OS
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
and save it to computer.
If the PC does not recognize the BB, You need to connect the via the USB cable. Then pull the battery from the BB.
With the battery pulled, connect the BlackBerry to the USB connector and as SOON as you see USB-PIN:UNKNOWN hit Next. You have to be quick. From there you can put the battery back in (make sure you install the battery or else when the OS update is completing and the device disconnects from the computer to reboot, it will lose the power provided by the USB connection and you will get an error and have to do it all over again!).
If you don't get it right the first time, try again (unplug from USB, pull battery, connect and hit Next while USB-PIN:Unknown is showing). You have to be fast and the timing is key, so it may take you three or four attempts.
To erase all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps.
1) Download JL_Cmder from http://www.4shared.com/get/oqP9V-2Q/JL_Cmder_v19.html
2) Install JL_Cmder to computer.
3) Double check you have already backed-up the BB. If you DO NOT, you will lose ALL data.
4) Make sure the DTS is closed and plug in the BB to computer via USB
5) Go to the JL_Cmder on your computer and double click it to start. Now,this may take a few tries to connect, so keep trying until it does.
6) On the first screen, Press any key to continue.
7) Now, if your device uses a password, enter it now. If not, press "N"
8) Press 4 to initiate the WIPE
9) Press "Y" to continue
10) Now type "blackberry" to continue
11) On the BB you will see a white screen with a'507' Error. Don't worry, this is what you want! You are now ready to install the OS.
Launch the new Desk Top Software on the computer
1). On the home screen of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, click Device > Update my device.
2). Click View Other Versions. Click the version of the new OS you previously downloaded.
3). Click Install. The DTM will install the OS and then provide you with a list of applications to install. If you have had difficulties with an app, do not install it.
Do not disconnect the device until the whole process is completed and the device has rebooted.
After 10 minutes reboot again by removing the battery whilst powered-on and leave it out for a couple of minutes.
Leave it again for 10 minutes. You should now have a fully functioning BB!

  • 8900 Keeps Rebooting half way through a Reboot.

    Hi,
I use my BlackBerry for Business, it's my primary phone for both work and personal. Recently I got a brand new 8900 and worked great. One night while away on business it froze for the first time, I pulled out the battery and rebooted it and it kept rebooting half way through. I could not connect it to a PC at all.
T-Mobile offered no help and sent me to a third party repair guy who told me it would fix it for 60 dollars. This is frustrating as this phone for one is expensive and brand new and should not fail, and secondly, t-mobile offers no support.
Now for the kicker, my roomate has the same phone and went and got the Droid. He leant me his 8900, also brand new sub 6 months where my first one is sub 3 months old.
Well tonight, I installed the new bbm and it rebooted the phone and guess what....same thing. Now I have no phone and of course, no support from my carrier. What in gods name is going on with these phones?

If there is no error message on the phone display that indicates what is going on ("AppError", "JVM Error", both with codes), then we must guess. You might have some luck with this article:
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
As for support, front line support for BB's is, by contract, not provided by RIM. The carriers and authorized resellers are responsible for front line formal support to end users. It is possible to bypass your carrier and seek assistance direct from RIM, but such involves fees since you are bypassing your support agreement with your carrier. The "Support and Services" tab toward the top of these forum pages provide information about that. But, if you do go through your carrier for support, they can escalate into RIM at no fee to you if they so choose to.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop/Finder keeps rebooting after upgraded to Maverick (mac mini hooked up to a home theater system)

My desktop keeps rebooting ever since I upgraded to Mavericks.
Current setup, Mac Mini hooked up to home theater (Panasonic SC-HTB20) that is then hooked up to my Panasonic Plasma TV.
I usually leave my Mac Mini on running and at least once a day when I turn on the TV I can see that my desktop was rebooted. Firefox and Chrome will say that it wasn't shut down properly and if I want to restore my previous session. Also some times when I switched the input to watch TV and switch back, all my windows will be scattered out of place. For example Chrome will be in the top left hand corner to the point that it's almost minimized and I wouldn't be able to move it as well. Only thing I can do is close out these applications and relaunch them. It doesn't appear that the OS actually crashed, but more like the desktop/finder itself crashed. Cause once in a while I will switch back or turn on the TV and the screen will stay black for a few minutes then I'll see the cursor in the top right hand corner. After that I will start to see the desktop and my application start loading. It doesn't go through the regular process of rebooting where you see the Apple logo so I don't think the OS actually crashed but I could be wrong.
For some reason it seems like Maverick doesn't like the home theater system. An almost guarantee way to reproduce the issue is to wait for the home theater to turn off after it's been inactive for a while. If I turn it on the home theater to have the audio coming from it I will see the desktop goes black immediately then the whole desktop reboot process I mentioned above will kick in.
Never had any of these issues on 10.7 before I upgraded to Maverick.
Anybody have any suggestion? I really don't want to format and downgrade back to 10.7.
    Thanks

    Sounds like a kernel panic.
If you post the report we could have a go at deciphering it.
It would be in /Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports.

  • Mac pro keeps rebooting

My Mac Pro 2.1 Keeps rebooting ramdomly. It seems to be more common when editing video.
    Any ideas anybody?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sorry for the slow reply.
My Mac Pro 2.1 screens go black and instantly reboots, sometimes it keeps rebooting until i hold the power button. I have reset pram, smc, renewed permissions and checked hard discs.
I am booting from a drive with lion 10.7.3. It also happens when I am booted from another drive running Snow Leopard.
I have also removed 4 gig of the 8 gig of ram and tried different configs of ram.
I have also disconnected everything except the keyboard, mouse and 2 monitors.
It is driving me bonkers because I cannot trust the mac Pro and I often lose work because it suddenly reboots.
    Any suggestions anyone.

  • Laserjet pro MFP M176n keeps rebooting

    Hi,
I have  a Color laserjet Pro MFP M176n printer. It ha snot been used for sometime.2 weeks ago when I printed something it had constant paper jam. I open the front door to remove the jam problem was not solved, I removed the ink cartridge to see if there was any piece of paper .Switch the apparatus off and  when i switch it on again it just wnt switch on and now it just keep rebooting and wont display anything.
I would liek to know how to solve this problem or if the printer has to be thrown out.
    Regards

    Hi @widadr,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the printer constantly rebooting. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Temporarily disconnect any cables from the printer, except the power cord, just to make sure there isn't any interference for the next few steps.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and in case of a power switch keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power chord.
Try and update the printer's firmware by a USB connection if the issue persists. Software and Drivers.
I will send you another step to try in a private message.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)

Can't check the SN or warranty, cause it is stuck in restore mode.

This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Usually this is caused by your antivirus or firewall blocking iTunes access to the Internet. It can also occur if the phone is jailbroken or if the computer you are using was ever used to jailbreak an iDevice.

  • Lenovo X240 keeps rebooting with Kernel-Power (Event ID:41); Windows 7 Professional

    Hi All
I have my newly Lenovo x240 installed with Windows 7. Sometime, it can boot up, but sometimes it keep rebooting during the windows logo appear.
When it goes wrong, it will have the following screen.
But, if I am lucky, after several "auto-reboot", I can get into the Windows 7. But sometimes, it shows the similar screen above (without windows logo but with what my current desktop), and it then auto reboots.
This scenario is so random, I don't know how to fix it. At this stage, I don't want to use system restore, as some software is installed by my client which is not located near my office, while the reboot issue happens before those installation

    Could you please help?
    BR
    Jacky

    Hi JackyCheung,
I would strongly you to ensure you have the latest drivers and also Windows Updates installed before proceeding with anything else. Have you ran the diagnostics to see if anything hardware related maybe causing the issue?
In this scenario I highly doubt System Restore would help, was it working OK when you got it? what has changed since it was working without the issue?

  • I restored my iphone 4 to prepare it for sale and now it keeps rebooting itself every few minutes saying "Waiting for Activation". What's going on?!

I'm just trying to figure out if theres some other issue at play or if its normal for the phone to keep rebooting while searching for activation. I'd like to sell it this weekend but I don't want to sell a broken phone to someone. I researched this issue a bit online and only found a similar issue having to do with facetime/imessage but this seems to be different. I went through the necessary steps to fix the problem others were having, even though it didnt seem to be exactly the same as mine, but it is still happening. I will say that I got the iphone wet some time ago but it has worked fine since then so I'm assuming its not related. Perhaps the battery needs to be replaced? Any and all input or advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

I should mention it is ios 6.1.3. The phone has now also started, after rebooting, showing the signal bars next to the wifi signal icon at the top but no "Sprint" type next to the bars as usual. And then after a few minutes it shuts down, shows the black screen with the white apple in the middle for a few moments, comes back up with the Waiting for Activation message, the signal bars pop up and the whole cycle just repeats itself.

  • My ipod touch keeps rebooting I restored from the back up it but it keeps rebooting,

My Itouch started rebooting, when i plugged it into itune it told me I needed to restore from back up after several attemps ( I received an error 9 message) I finaly got it to restore, but it just keeps rebooting!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mod
       http://www.wikihow.com/Put-an-iPod-or-iPhone-into-DFU-Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable or another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I just got the new Itunes 9.0 and synced my Ipod video as usual, but now it just keeps rebooting and is stuck on the black screen with the white apple.
I have tried (twice) going into disk mode, and restoring the Ipod, but it still has the same issue. I have also tried plugging it into a wall charger.
Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advanced!

probably the next best thing to try is attempting to reset it while it is connected to a power source (like the PC). see:

  • HD DRV Keeps Rebooting after adding audio receiver

I have had FIOS tv for almost 2 years now with no issues, I am in Edgewater, MD.  I recently bought a new receiver, Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver.  After hooking everything up through the receiver with HDMI cables, my DVR box keeps rebooting.  It only happens when I run the HDMI to the receiver then to the TV.  If I run the HDMI directly to the tv, like it has been for over a year, I don't have any problems.  I know I could work around this by just running the audio to the receiver, but I wanted to take advantage of the HDMI cable and control all sources through the receiver.  Has anyone else had this kind of issue?

Your problem  comes from the looseness of the HDMI protocol. The protocol allows for to much variance in the implementation and because of that a digital "handshake" issues occur. The more HDMI components you add to the mix the more likely you are to have issues. I get the DUI message at every start up and I have HD DVR straight to the TV, however I don't experiance any other audio or visoe issues. Just the meassage as everything intializes.

  • HP 8600 Officejet Pro keeps rebooting

THe printer is in a reboot cycle and never completes the boot process.  Can't get to a menu, just reboots and starts over.

    Hi @RodLH,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer keeps rebooting. I am happy to help!
I would suggest a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector! Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
