My 8gb iPod Touch Battery Issues?

My iPod has lived in my car, plugged into the USB / iPod slot for about 9 months with no problem at all.
Over christmas, I unplugged it and took it on a trip with me. Upon unplugging, a problem immediately surfaced - the battery dies (on standby, not playing) in about 5 hours from a full charge.
The cable in the car isn't permanent live, so I can say with confidence that this wasn't happening before. It just started happening this one day.
Secondary to this, when plugged into the car now, when enough juice for it to play is finally attained (takes about 5 minutes from turning on the ignition), then the iPod will play around 5 to 10 tracks before all of a sudden, everything stops, the radio goes off and the "overheating" message is displayed on the iPod, though it's cool to touch...
After 60 seconds, you can press the menu button and the message is dismissed and the iPod will play another 5 to 10 tracks before the overheat message is displayed again and you have to wait another 60 seconds before it will go again....
This iPod is only about a year old. Help! Will a reset fix this? or is the battery actually dead? I don't have all of the music on this iPod on the laptop any more. Is there any way of resetting without losing everything?
Thanks,
Ben

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Could be the battery or somethting else.

  • Ipod touch Battery issue

    Hi all
i just got my brand new ipod touch 2nd gen for less than 1 month however i notice that the battery is somehow different from before. Now it can be charged up to 80% with usb cable in less than 1 hour and almost fully charged in 2 hours. and the battery drains down to 20% in 3hours after continual gaming. Is that normal?

  • 2nd gen iPod touch battery issue?

I have an 8 gig, 2nd generation iPod touch that I've had since the summer of 2009. I have used it every day since I got it and have never noticed a problem until recently. Usually I can go for 2-4 days without charging it, but about two weeks ago, I noticed that I was having to charge it every day, otherwise it would die over night. I switched the wi-fi off and I now shut down my iPod every time I'm done using it which have both helped to preserve the battery life quite a bit; however, it's quite annoying having to turn the wi-fi on and off every time I want to use it (I usually just left it on). I'm assuming that this is an indication that my battery is officially dying and, with it being 4 years old, I imagine it has surpassed the maximum number of productive charge cycles. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there something that I can do to fix it or do I need to replace the battery? Thank you all for your help!

Yup, sounds like the battery is dying.
    - Apple will replace the battery/exchange the iPod for $79
    - A third-party place like the following is less expensive.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
    Google for more.
    - Replace it yourself.

  • IOS 5.0.1 did not fix iPod Touch battery issue

My 3g touch does not hold a charge. It was completely fine until the upgrade to iOS 5 which basically killed it! Did the 5.0.1 update and that did NOTHING! Took it to the Apple store and your so called "Geniuses" said I can replace the battery for like $80. Uhhh, NO! There is nothing wrong with the battery. It is the OS that is jacked up! You said that iOS 5 would be compatable. This needs to be fixed immediately! I know that I am not the only one out there having this issue.

    DiscoSteve74,
Are you looking for an email address to contact Apple?
If so, they don't have one. They do, however, have this, a page for feedback.
If you'd like to call them, you might have to pay a fee.
    Hope this helps,
    O.C.

  • My ipod touch has a short amount of battery life of around two hours, but i installed an app that tells you how much battery life left, it said 4 hours, how come? is my ipod touch battery faulty?

my ipod touch 8gb, ios 4.3.2 has a short amount of battery life of around 2 hours, but i installed an app that tells you the battery life remaining, it said 4 hours, how come? is my ipod touch battery faulty

    Some useful info would be:
    What generation is it?
    How old is it?
If it's older than the 3rd generation, then the battery may have run its course (or iOS 4.3 is taking a toll on the battery).
If not, then you might have some issues leaving the wi-fi on and fetching data as well as running apps in the background that abuse location services and notification. Make sure those are off, or only running when necessary. If you see a small arrow in the top right corner (that isn't the music "Play" arrow), then you are currently running a location based service that can drain battery.
Also check your brightness settings, these can really pull battery life.

  • 8gb Ipod Touch does not sync, many other problems

Hello - If anyone has advice i would greatly appreciate it -
Here's the deal. I was given an 8gb ipod touch for christmas last year. The device worked for for several months, one day however it got stuck in a loop where error (9) kept coming up saying that I needed to restore my ipod to the factory settings. I did this and when it finished verifying the installation process it would give me the same error. I took the ipod into the apple store and they tested it on their computer and it worked fine on that, however the took it anyway and gave me a free new one which came a couple days later.
Since I have had the new one i have still had the same problems. I successfully was able to get my applications onto the ipod touch however when i tried to sync the music the ipod would freeze. When I checked the available space on the ipod it said that only 1.2gb remained eventhough there were no songs on the ipod at all. I tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes many times, i do receive an error message a lot on my computer saying that bonjour service is having issues and can not be accessed, but there is nothing that I do on my computer to cause this problem. My itunes again, with the new ipod touch, is asking me to restore the ipod to the factory settings again. Anyone have any idea what is going on or how it can be fixed?
    Thanks

When it tells you new hardware is found, do you have the option to search the Internet instead of a CD?
Be sure you turn off all antivirus, zone alarm, firewall etc. Go into Control Panel and check the Security settings as well as the task bar in the lower right corner. Make sure all those are disabled. Then try again.
If still no luck, or you seem to be having USB problems, verify your USB is being recognized by XP by following these steps:
    1. From the Start menu, right-click the My Computer/Computer icon and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The System Properties window opens.
    2. Windows XP and Windows 2000: Click the Hardware tab.
Windows Vista: Click Device Manager. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
    3. In the Device Manager section of the Hardware tab window, click Device Manager. The Device Manager window opens.
    4. Double-click the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" entry.
    5. Double-click the name of each USB Host Controller that appears under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" entry. A window with the name of the installed USB Host Controller appears.
    6. If necessary, click the General tab. If the USB card is working correctly, you should see "This device is working properly" in the Device Status field.
If still no luck, look at [Updating the drivers on your Windows PC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1768?viewlocale=en_US]particularly for updates to the CD or DVD drive, graphics card, sound card.

  • 8GB ipod touch keeps freezing up and won't run apps correctly

I have an 8GB ipod touch that is almost a year old and it keeps freezing up.  Some apps that use the motion side to side to move objects, doodlejump for example, won't work.  I have reloaded apps and restored the ipod and it is still having a problem.  What would be the issue and can it be fixed?

If the restore you did was from backup. restore to factory defaults/new iPod since you may have corruption that is now in your backup.  If you then still have problems I wold make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  If they determine it is a hardware problem and it is within warranty they should give you a replacment iPod.

  • Returned my 8GB iPod Touch -- 10% fee

I returned my 8gb ipod touch today at the Walnut Creek store. I had problems view dark scenes, namely, dark skinned people. The guy said he would show his manager and he said the manager didn't see anything wrong with it. I only had 1 video on it, Episode 2 of Heroes. So, as my headline says, I got charged the 10% restocking fee.
I'm pretty bummed about it too b/c I was told at the SF Apple store (where I bought it) that I could return it w/o a restocking fee. I didn't have my receipt and box w/ me at the time so I figured I would just return it at another store.
The guy helping me didn't seem like he was going to budge and I didn't feel like pushing the issue or causing a scene so I just paid the 10% fee.
Even my wife, when she first viewed video on the lcd screen, asked, "why is it so dark"?
Lesson learned, WAIT a while before buying the latest product or else you'll pay (either w/ a restocking fee, your time, or both).

I'd go back and get your full reimbursement. Show them these discussion boards. Many people have swapped out/returned their touches without having to pay the fee, myself included. Forty bucks is forty bucks, y'know?
For Apple Retail not to have a uniform policy on this is not only outrageous, but also simply unfair. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt at the moment since this is a brand new product, but a statement needs to be made ASAP.

  • 8GB iPod touch Atutomatically Shuts off?

Does the 8GB iPod touch turn itself off after not being used for a long period of time? Just bought one for my mother and it seems to shut off over night when left attached to the PC, never had this happen with any other iPod i've owned including my iPhone.

If your computer is turned off or in sleep mode your battery may drain when your ipod is connected.

  • 8GB iPod Touch default capacity reduced

Upgraded my 8GB iPod Touch (bought it on August 2008 - so no idea whether its 2G or 3G)...If my memory serves me right, the default capacity was 7.38GB when the firmware was 3.1.3. After yesterday's upgrade its reduced to 6.82GB. Did iOS4 consume 1.2GB of my iPod Touch space?
Is this only on mine or anybody else are observing the same?

I was loving my ipod, until Apple did the dumb update. I thought the new software would make me love it even more. But what the software has done to my ipod, decreasing my battery life and lowering my capacity, it just ruined it. Apple has to fix this Cause I'm {and a lot others)are not happy! now i have less space to add music and less time to listen and play games! -.-

  • 8GB ipod touch is frozen or lock.

8GB ipod touch is frozen or lock my daughter got it in sept there is not water damage or anythin i went to charge ,the screen went blue it won't charge. Please i need help fixing it.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 1st generation ipod touch battery

My first generation iPod Touch battery has had it and is barely holding a charge. Does anyone have any experience with the battery replacement companies that are available? Would like to use someone that has had a good experience.

if you're using it for media a lot then the battery will be drained a lot more quickly than just using it for music/podcasts. i often listen to a 3.5 hour radio show via wifi using the BBC iPlayer and that pretty much kills the battery, but if i'm using it for just music/podcasts it will last at least a few days before needing a charge.
hints i have seen for the new batteries suggest that rather than letting your iPod run down, you should keep charging it, no matter how short a period, whenever you can.

  • 3rd gen 8GB ipod touch stuck on connect to itunes

This isn't fair. I just bought this 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch (my first ipod ever, only owned Mp3 players) from best buy today and i can't even use it...
I'm going to start from square one, this will be long-winded, so forgive me in advance. But detail might help you guys help me out...
Okay, all giddy with excitement I boot up my touch for the first time. It tells me to connect it to itunes. I do that, hooking up the touch to the computer via usb. Vista detects it, installs the "apple mobile device" drivers just fine. Good, so then I open up itunes -- latest version -- and it's telling me to set up my ipod; name it, etc. Alright, I'm almost bursting at the seams here with excitement, but then itunes is notifying me that iOS4 is out. I upgrade, it takes a few minutes to do its stuff, it's done, and bam it's working. I play with the ipod a little bit, looking at the apps that already came with it. I disconnect, play with it, then reconnect to the computer again.
So now, itunes for some reason is doing a "recovery" process -- i did not tell it to initiate this. So it's in the process of "recovering" (backing up, i guess?) and Vista is prompting me to install the driver "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery)" I tell it ok, locate and install them. It does that, I'm guessing, for it's now prompting me to insert a CD. Well, there is no CD so I tell it to find this driver on the internet. It says "cannot find drivers check manufacturer's support site blah blah blah." At this point, itunes tells me that it cannot complete the "recovery process" -- no error code or anything, and the dialog box closes.
Now, my ipod goes into the connect to itunes screen. Itunes does not recognize it, for it does not even display my ipod at all. Vista does however, and each time i connect the ipod to the computer it attempts to install the "apple mobile device (recovery)" driver and fails each time. I don't know what's happening. I've lost all functionality in my ipod, can't even get into DFU. iTunes just refuses to recognize it. I've tried all of those fixes (reinstalling itunes, rebooting, trying that method where you go into device manager and update the apple mobile device (recovery) drivers....all of it doesn't work). I've spent hours websearching...
And I'm at a loss. I'm ready to throw this thing somewhere. Can you guys suggest any help for me? Please...

  • 8GB iPod Touch 2g unresponsive

Here's it the situation: a coworker of mine bought an 8GB iPod Touch 2g from a friend because it "wouldn't work". Then the coworker came to me to see if I could fix it. I asked if it had been jailbroken/dropped/etc. He said it hadn't been jailbroken, but he was pretty sure it had been dropped. After getting my hands on the iPod I have not noticed any evidence of it being dropped. Anyway...
My first action was to plug it in to the computer and let it charge. When I finally got home almost 12 hours later, nothing, not even warm. OK, let's try to restore it...nothing. Enter DFU mode? Nothing. Every solution I have seen to try, I have tried. Nothing is happening at all.
Is my only solution to make an appointment at the Genius Bar? If so, is it going to cost me anything since the iPod is out of warranty? It isn't my iPod, that's the only reason I am asking.

I have an older nano that iTunes can't see unless I reboot it while it's connected to iTunes. You could try that.
Otherwise one of these support articles might work

    Hope this helps.

  • Well its another 3rd gen. 8gb ipod touch problem. Apparently they don't exist and that really ticks me off because the apple packaging clearly stated it was an 8gb 3rd gen. and now i can't update it. Apple lied and now im paying for it.I better get a new1

A year or two back i dad just used up all of my money to buy a brand new ipod touch 3rd gen. 8gb. I bought it at a local sams club and i even still have the packaging that says it was an 8gb 3rd gen. But Apple lied to me because it is only an 2nd gen. I looked it up and they don't exist. Now i can't get any games or anything because of thier false advertisement and ripping us off (as you can't update from iOS 4.2.1). This also happened to many of my friends and other Apple customers throughout the U.S. It was an unopened product from Apple. Since they tricked us i hold Apple accountable. I demand a refund and anyone else in this delemma please share your story. APPLE OWES ME A REFUND.

I see that you have the same problem as guys in the sites I found.
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/54866
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55334
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55180
I think most of them manage to came out either with FULL REFUND, with 75-90% DISCOUNT for iPod 4G purchase, or FREE iPod touch 4G 8GB.
I'll tell you this, it's not Apple who lied to you, it's the misled DEALERS. I've been collecting evidences and it seems from the beginning (the time of press release) until the release of iPod 4G, Apple never stated that they intended to release iPod touch 3G in 8GB.
See this image of Apple online store back in early 2010 :
The 8GB model were only UPDATED with iOS 3 however the true NEW iPod touch at that time (Apple hadn't used the terms Generation yet) was available in larger capacity. The iPod touch 8GB wasn't RENEWED but rather RE-RELEASED with lower price as previous 8GB iPod touch were more expensive. If you still not convinced enough to believe it, well search the youtube and watch Phil Schiller's presentation in 09/2009. He shown 8GB model (he didn't say new) would only experience updated price of $199 but later on, he pushed the 8GB aside and explained the NEW larger capacity models would be granted double capacity and improved performance
Hence, I'm truthfully sorry to say that the one whom to be wronged isn't Apple but dealers themselves for false advertising. I suggest you to bring up your complain to the dealer with valid evidences because if you don't, I'm afradi you might lose your chance due to the time being.
