What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than abount 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
as recommended by:

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

even after all night of charging my ipod touch is running out of battery whithin 5 minutes of it being on, why is this?

Try the following to rule out a software problem.:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Ipad 2 - 30gb and running out of space, but i don't have that many movies - can anyone help

ipad 2 - 30gb and running out of space, but i don't have that many movies - can anyone help?  How do i find a directory of files that I can manage (PC user)?
    thanks!

You might have to do some experimenting from iTunes on your computer.
Several months back, I had a phantom 5G of video.  I unchecked ALL video files and synced the iPad and the 5G was still there.  I was able to delete the 5G and bring it back by repeatedly unchecking and checking the "Sync Movies" box.
A "Restore" solved my problem.  Be forewarned that it's not quick:
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

I updated my ipod touch to version 5.0.1 but all my apps are gone!!
Why are all my apps gone? I really want them back, i was rated #4 of all time on one game!

Are the Apps still in your iTunes library?  If they are simply make sure they are configured to sync to your iPod still.  See this article for more details.

  • IPod Touch 4 runs out of battery fast

I have an iPod touch 4 (which I got sometime in December 2010), and I fully charge it, and when I disconnect it I don't immeadiately use it. When I'm about to use it, I can see the battery is already running out. & I haven't even used it. Is something wrong with my iPod?

the reason people don't seem to get is that leaving your iPod on "wifi" mode drains battery, it drains even more if you have the wifi on in an area where there is no wifi connection.
mutlitasking and screen brightness helps but it doesn't give the drainage effect like what you said.
apple doesn't give the iPod Touch crappy battery, it's the users who doesn't understand how it works.

  • Ipod is already running out of space!

I have the ipod touch 8g, and only have a little over 700 songs on it and it's already almost full! There's about 1g of memory left! This can't be right, thought I'd at least be able to get 1,000 songs on there???
The audio file type is AAC, I was told thats how I should be storing my tunes...hmmm, any suggestions as to whats gone wrong???

The higher the kilobits per second (kbps), the higher the audio quality and the larger the file size. The most common bit rate for stereo AAC files is 128 kbps. iTunes Plus songs from the iTunes store are now 256 kbps, twice the size.
You can use iTunes to make a copy of a song at a lower kbps if you really need more songs on your iPod. This happens automatically while syncing to an iPod Shuffle (only), but you have to do the conversion yourself for other iPods. This document explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
If you do a conversion, you will still have the original quality song in your library which you may keep or delete as you wish.

  • Hi, my name's Michael and I had a question about my iPod touch. I recently dropped it but I still have a warranty and Apple Support said they couldn't fix that my screen doesn't recognize my finger is on there trying to do anything?

Hi, my iPod touch was recently dropped but afterwards I called Apple Support and they told me I have a 17 day warranty for my Apple iPod Touch, so then I asked them if I could send it in to get fixed but what had happened to my iPod was that when I click the home button and try to ''Slide to Unlock" it doesn't recognize that I'm trying to do anything else the only thing that I can do is press the "Sleep" and "Home" Buttons and nothing else. Anything you can do to help me please??

Even if you were still under AppleCare warranty, it would not cover damage from a fall.
That "17 day" warranty makes no sense, though. iPods have a 1-year free AppleCare warranty for service, and 90 days for free phone support:

Apple can repair just about anything that might be wrong with your iPod, but it will cost you. Call, explain the problem, ask for a repair appointment at your nearest Apple Store (or get a case number and ask for instructions to mail it in for a repair), but get a firm quote on the repair cost before authorizing the repair (or mailing it in for repair).

  • My ipod touch has software 2.2.1 but all the apps now require newer software. It won't update because it says it's the up to date software. do i need to buy a new ipod touch?

I can't update my ipod touch software because when i check for updates using itunes it says the software is up to date. Does this mean i have to get a newer ipod touch or is there a way to manually update the software to the newer versions?

You probably have a 1G iPod.  See here:
    Identifying iPod models
The 1G can go as far as 3.1.3.  You can purchase that update here.  You may have to use another browser to get the sublink to work correctly.

I have a 8 gigabyte IPod touch fourth generation and 2.3 gigabytes available but I still can't download it. Can anybody help

That would likely be because the app must be downloaded then installed. That means more memory is required than what the app will end up using once installed. Think of it like you are downloading a compressed archive. Then you have to dearchive in order to get the application. Finally, you delete the archive. Until that last step your device needs space for the archive and the contents of the archive.

  • Time Machine running out of space but doesn't delete old backups

    First some context:
I am running Parallels Desktop on a 2011 iMac. The VM is on a partition that is excluded from Time Machine.
I have a second partition where I copy the VM every night using CCC. (This avoids TM backing up a large VM every hour).
TM says initial backup is 220 GB. I have a 1TB USB drive attached. So normally, this works fine.
This morning 100GB were copied to my Parallels Desktop partition. So TM should copy something in excess of 100GB during backup.
Currently, only 15GB are free on my backup volume. But TM doesn't try to delete old backups. It doesn't seem to recognize the size of the backup. Instead when it starts, it predicts about 1GB to backup. Then during backup the amount grows (note that no new data is changed during backup!) and it finally hits the wall at 15GB because the disk is full.
Any idea why TM doesn't figure out the real backup size?
Here's the log from TM Buddy:

  • My iPod Touch storage is almost completely full, but I barely have anything on there! Why is this?

So, when I tried to record a video, it said my storage was full and I couldn't. So, of course, I started deleting things to give myself more room to put things.
However, I deleted all my apps except for four, more than half of my pictures I have erased, and I only have four songs in my playlist! However, even though I also deleted all my email messages and turned off the iCloud back up, my storage is still completely full!
I don't get it, and it's kind of making me mad, so could somebody please tell me how to reclaim my storage?
    Thanks.

  • Time Machine failure: Disk run out of space unexpectedly

    Hi
I'm having serious problems in the last few days with Time Machine backups.
I have an iMac '27 (late 2009) running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. The internal disk is 1 TB, and I use an external FW HD LaCie d2 Quadra 1 TB for my TM backups. After 3 years the disk is always full, but old backups were regularly removed. All the possible source of large variable files were excluded long time ago (VM disks, temporary directories, large download files).
TM used to work quite smoothly, but now, since 10 days, the backup fails with the message
"The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup."
I've checked previous messages in the forum about such an error, but the various cases do not seem to match my specific problem (or I was not able to find the message with working answer).
It seems that the "unexpected" problem is related to the fact that Time Machine is trying to backup again a large part of my filesystem, and it determines this fact only after the backup starts (so there is no pre-cleaning): when it happens I can see that the target size of the backup increases over time, while more and more data are written on the disk, until the disk is full.
I'll try to summarize my situations with an itemized list:
The current backup fails because it runs out of space, leaving an .inprogress file behind
The latest backup did not fail: the log report a successful backup (checked with Time Machine Buddy)
Examining the content of the latest backup, the one that did not fails, shows that some system directories, /Applications, /usr, and /bin are missing
So, possibly, the "unexpected" error happens because the system is backing up a lot of stuff (like 60GB), and TM discover this only after it starts writing the files
I've verified with Disk Utility both the TM disk and the internal HD, and they both report no problem.
After some digging around, I was able to make TM work again removing the .inprogress file (using the Pondini instructions), removing (using the "Star Wars" interface) the latest backup, the one with the incomplete content, and removing a few older backups to create some more free space.
The first time I thought it was a transient problem, but it happened again after a few days.
So the real issue is, why the latest successful backup is actually incomplete, with a large number of directories missing, but there is no hint of this in the logs?
I've read that old LaCie HDs might have problems with Mountain Lion, and with its power saving settings. May this be the cause? I did already turn off the power saving setting (put HD to sleep when possible) before the latest failure, but nothing changed.
I've also tried to update the d2 Quadra firmware, as indicated by other messages and on LaCie website, but the update fails and the provided instructions are less than useful (I'll try to contact LaCie on this issue).
My doubt is that this does not seem a power save issue... the failed backups happen while I'm actually using the machine (so no wake up/disk spin issue seems to happen), and the backups starts with no problem: they just finish abruptly with no apparent reason but with a success message.
Does anyone have problems similar to mine (successful but incomplete TM snapshots)? Is the problem triggered by the HD firmware, or there are other possible causes?
I plan to repair the TM one more time, and then keep it turned off to run only manual backups, but I'm aware that there is no guarantee that also a controlled manually started backup is not going to fail in a similar way.
    Thanks for any suggestion.
    Maurizio

I am not running out of space, but I do have the same problem.  Every so often TM does a backup which is about 60 GB bigger than expected.   The  extra is always a new backup of /System /Applications /usr etc. - that is the 'system files'.
The key thing is, as you have noticed:
Examining the content of the latest backup, the one that did not fail, shows that some system directories, /Applications, /usr, and /bin are missing
As a consequence the next backup is, in my case, 60 GB bigger because it includes all the system files.
It is as if 'systemFilesExcluded' was turned on for the previous backup (the one that 'did not fail').  But I have looked in the .exclusions.plist for this backup and it is exactly the same as for other backups and does include:
            <key>systemFilesExcluded</key>
            <false/>
It seems that TM is treating this as if <true/>.
Like you, I have done a disk verify and it finds no errors.
I think this must be a bug.  I have had this on four occassions since upgrading to Mountain Lion.  And it is doing a large one right now - I have caught it in the act!

  • Mysterious random reboot with iPod Touch 3G running 3.1 firmware

    Hi everybody,
I ordered an iPod Touch which arrived last week, thinking that it would be the third best thing ever happened to my life (besides my girlfriend and my mac book pro). However it has been a big disappointment for me since the first day I used it.
I have been using the iPod for about a week now, and it randomly crashes and automatically reboots 5 or 6 times a day. I tried restoring it several times but to no avail. I also closely followed this post about random crashes with iPhone running 3.1 firmware (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2152619&start=0&tstart=0).
At first I thought this annoying bug is common for both iPhone and iPod touch user running 3.1. But it's weird that no other user using iPod touch is complaining about the problem. So I'm thinking this might be a hardware problem.
If you guys have any possible solution, or if you are using iPod Touch and have the same problem, please reply. I want to make sure before contacting Apple and exchange for a new one. By the way, it's totally unacceptable that:
    1. Apple didn't announce the problem and apologize to the users who are suffering and literally losing money everyday due to this bug
    2. Apple blocked the online support feature, I'm gonna have to arrange an appointment with them via phone, but the nearest apple support center is 2 hours away by car.
Thanks for reading and I hope there's a way to address this problem soon.
