My account, daughter's new iPod

I was previously able to share music downloaded with my account with my teenaged daughter's iPod.  That iPod went through the wash and got ruined.  We now have a new iPod generation 7 ... but it won't allow the already purchased music to sync.   We feel stuck ... as though we have to make the purchase of many songs all over again.   We'd welcome any advice ...

but it won't allow the already purchased music to sync.
Why not? What happens when you try? Any error messages? If so, what is the exact wording of the error message(s)?

  • HT1420 I need to authorize my computer for my daughter's new ipod touch but there is no Store menu or Advanced menu in the new version of iTunes I just downloaded today.  I can't see a way to do it.

I need to authorize my computer for my daughter's new iPod Touch but in the new version of itunes that just upgraded to day there is no "store" menu or "advanced" menu that I can see and I can't see a way to do it.  So anything she buys with her i.d. won't transfer.  Help!

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • I own an iPod Touch 4g. Now i'm planning to buy iPod Touch 5g. Is it possible for me to register the new one with existing Apple ID so that i can transfer the apps from my existing account to my new Ipod 5g?

I own an iPod Touch 4g. Now i'm planning to buy iPod Touch 5g. Is it possible for me to register the new iPod with existing Apple ID so that i can transfer the apps from my existing account to my new Ipod 5g?

There should definitely be no issue. You can register more than one Apple device with the same Apple ID and get the same apps on both devices without having to pay for the apps again.
Alternatively, if you want all your settings to say the same, do a backup of your old iPod Touch and then whe you receive the new iPod, restore the backup on it and it'll save you the trouble from having to redownload everything.
    Cheers.

  • I purchased my daughter the new ipod. I downloaded the latest version of itunes and after syncing the new ipod, I was unable to get the majority of my songs. They all appear with an exclamation point. Even the ones purchased on itunes. Why?

I purchased my daughter the new ipod. I downloaded the latest version of itunes. After syncing the ipod, all my songs appear grayed out. They have an exclamation point next to them. Even the ones I purchased from itunes. How do I get my songs back?

Usually, the exclamation mark tells you that the song was not where the program expected to find it. It may also mean that there was an error with the file itself.
If you click on the exclamation mark, it may give you a reason. You can also double click the file to make it play. If the file is not found, it will tell you. Just follow the prompts to look for the song again. It will ask you if you want to look for the other missing songs in the same folder. You can do it, but unfortunately, the last few updates have made the program blind to the songs that are there and you sometimes have to do the same process for each song.
If neither of these help, I would suggest starting from scratch and reinstalling iTunes. I have had to do that before. Do your best to back up the library and such first.
Sometimes a computer will rename a hard disk (Windows) and all the songs on that disk will be gone to iTunes because it will think it's looking in the right place. It can't recognize that the hard disk or partition has been renamed.
I know that this is a podcast, but the principle is the same. A dialogue box should pop up to tell you just what the problem is.
       I hope this helps!

  • If I help out a friend & download a free app (through my iTunes account) on their new iPod Touch, will their device automatically be added to my itunes device list (and they can see all my contacts, pix, music etc)?

If I help out a friend & download a free app (through my iTunes account) on their new iPod Touch, will their device automatically be added to my itunes device list (and they can see all my contacts, pix, music etc)?

Just wondering, what context is this in?
First up, is your iTunes account part of an iCloud account?
Secondly, if it's a free app, why don't they just download it? If they are having trouble finding it on the App Store, but you can find it easily, you can share the link for it via email with them, and if they view that email on their iPod they can just tap the link and it will open the App Store to that App for them, so they can download it themselves.
If you were to go to the Store settings pane and sign in with your iTunes account, that should only provide the possibility for download items from your iTunes account, such as purchased apps, music and movies. However, if you signed in, downloaded the app, and then went back and signed out of the account again, there shouldn't be any access apart from the app you downloaded. This is provided you sign in using the Store section of the Settings app, not the iCloud section.
One problem they will have if you download this in your account instead of theirs, in order to download updates for that app, they will need you to enter your iTunes password to download the updates. Doing that doesn't give them access to anythign to do with your account other than that update, but they will be unable to receive updates for it without your password. They would also likely be unable to sync the app onto their computer, as their computer would not be Authorised with your iTunes account.
If you can answer some of the questions I've asked, I may be able to suggest alternate ways for you get them the app on their device.
Hope this all helps a bit

  • Lost my ipod, can i use my account with my new ipod?

I lost my ipod, can I use my old account with my new ipod?

Yes.  There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account. Simple connect it and sync it as you wish.

  • I put in the wrong birthdate when registering my daughter's new iPod touch. When I went to correct it, it looked me out

I put the wrong birthdate when registering my daughters new iPod Touch. It didn't let me establish a new account because the birthdate was too young. When I went to correct it, it continued the lock her new registration out. Now I can't successfully register her on iTunes with her correct birth year.

i just opened my ipad, started my apple account/I.D. and realized I put the wrong e mail. I was having trouble correcting my I.D on the Ipad so I went to my laptop and make the proper changes/slash e mail address I wanted for my apple ID. I got back to my ipad and try to download an app I can't because I have to sign in my apple account and I can't because it still has the irrelivant I.D/email address..
So, i did what you said.. went to setting>app store> tapped on my e mail.. it asked me to sign in (with my invalid emails address showing). I signed in with the password I had created. It said "incorrect".. I went to reset password. I reset password, tried to sign in and it says again "unvalid password".. this is getting irritating.  I have been asking and no one knows what to do.

  • I recently got a new ipod and I had to redownload itunes onto this computer. I am unable to sync my music that was already on my account to my new ipod. Anybody know what to do?

    Help!

There is no such thing as a "sub-account."  Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account."  Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases.  iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account).  You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying.  You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend.  Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library.  Is that on a different computer?  How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod.  What is your "old iTunes"?  Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

  • My daughter's new ipod touch if locked!!! plzz help...

we bought the ipod off a friend for x-mas and nothing was wrong with it.when we tried to work it x-mas morning its locked. it's showing a usb cord with an arrow pointing up to a disc with an music symbol on it..i plugged in to the computer but still not doing nothing. please help and thank you..

Happened to me when logged into my son's Windows Vista account, which is locked down (internet security). Kept getting the -9808 error. I couldn't change the settings loose enough for it to connect. When I connected to my "Admistrator/Parents" Vista account, it recognized the Ipod Touch right away. If you don't have different user accounts, try reducing your security as far as possible (only temporarily to get the Ipod connected the first time).
Once we loaded it the first time, we could then enter iTunes from the child's Vista account just fine... sync music, etc.

  • Do I need to create a new account for my daughter's new iPod touch?

When she sends a text, it shows up as coming from my email account which is associated with my iTunes account.  Does she need her own iTunes account?

I've tried to do that but it won't let me delete my email address, and when I try to add hers I get "an error occurred while verifying your email".  I know that her address is correct so I don't understand what's going wrong.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Setting up an account for my new IPOD

I want to sent up an account in the ITUNE STORE so I can pay for my purchases.  I first went in to establish a new account becuse my old player was not an IPOD and I was pretty certain I didn't have an account.  When I went to apply for a new account, it did not take my e-mail address because it was already used by another account number.  So I went into the sign in for existing accounts and clicked on the prompt for forgotten pasword!  It sent me a link in my e-mail and I composed a new password, but the new password didn't work, I got the same message that another account was associated with my e-mail address.  I thought I had fixed it, but I tried it again and I set up another password, and THAT one didn't work!  I keep getting the same message that my e-mail address already has an account #.  What do I do?  The way it looks, the account number is my e-mail address, so I shouldn't have another account number.  What am I doing wrong?

Just take the CC # off the account you don't want.
