My "Solar" accounts program won't run without "legacy Java SE6 runtime" since I upgraded my iMac desktop to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it, nothing happens when you click on the link to apple support
Okay, I'm not a Genius, but, I'm smarter than the one I spoke to at the Apple Store.They told me that they couldn't help me with Legacy Java SE6 Runtime. Adobe has the worst support in the industry so don't call them.
If you have a Time Machine backup, go to one that pre dates your install of Yosemite. Go to the System/Library/Java and drag copy the folder to your internal hard disk. Now you will need the Administrator password. Once copied, drag the old Java folder into your System/Library folder and when asked to replace, click OK. Restart your Mac and you will have use of your software that requires Legacy Java SE6 Runtime.
I'm totally done with Apple since they are trying to box me into a corner. Have fun kids.

Have a completely fine install of Java 8 (tested and whatnot) however I have a Mac OS program that requires Java. (1.1 or later) Of course, I should have realized that Apple would not let it go easily (ha ha) and is giving me the error message "To open "Program" you need to install the Legacy Java SE 6 runtime". I refuse to downgrade to an older, painful (and not completely working) version of Java just because it won't recognize I have Java 8. This program is compatible with Java 8, by the way. i downloaded Yosemite and now I cannot open CS 5.5 Production Premium at all, I receive the message that i need to install the legacy Java SE6 runtime. I am running Java 8 Update 25 (the latest). I have uninstalled and reinstalled CS5.5 Prod Prem already again so please don't suggest this. What do I do?

I had the same problem after upgrading to Yosemite. Illustrator CS6 wouldn't open. I got a message saying I should 'install legacy Java SE6 runtime'.
The link didn't work - it lead to a blank page.
So I downloaded Java8 (latest version) from Oracle but didn't install it. Something told me this was not the right way to go (the problem was with Java SE6, not 8). I then called Apple (in the Netherlands, were I live) for help. I got none. The best they could do was blaming Adobe for the problem or me, for not having the latest Adobe CC app. Rubbish.
And then, magic. I tried to open Illustrator again, got the pop up message but this time the link worked. It took me to an official Apple page, with a link to download Java for OS X 2014-001. The problem is now solved.
If curious, this is the explanation Apple gives for the problem:
'Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005. On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006 or later, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled 'missing plug-in' to download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.'

DW CS6 and legacy Java SE6 runtime [subject edited by moderator]
When I try to open Dw CS6 or Flash CS6 I get this message "
To open “Dreamweaver” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
To open “Flash” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."
These two programs would not open. These two programs was working
before I upgraded to OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1

DrewSorry, but you cannot use a UK iTunes card in any country other than the UK. Sell or give the card to someone in the UK and buy a French prepaid card.

I have an iMac running OX 10.5.8
I need a portable external hard drive to back it up before updating the software to Yosemite but I can't find anything that doesn't require you to be running at least OX 10.6. Is there a suitable hard drive? I'm not very technical and wouldn't know how to do any formatting so I want it to be very basic so that I can just plug it in. 500GB should be more than adequate.Correct. When you purchase devices, they would have stated the OS they needed to work, on the box. This can be overlooked, but it is very important to check when purchasing.
You current OS, is so old, that they technology build into the new devices, is not something your OS understands. It didn't exist when your OS was created, and therefore you need to upgrade the OS to work with the newer technology of these devices.
10.6 software is not downloadable. You must purchase a DVD disc. You can order it from the on-line apple store

Some have found that the page may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.
