My Acer Aspire E 15 fails to boot up after the Windows 10 upgrade.

Hello , im having a problem booting up my laptop. i just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 recently. my laptop won't boot up the first time ( the Acer logo appears and the cycling dots turn but then the screen goes black ) so then i turns the laptop off ( pressing the on/off button for several seconds until the blue indicator light turns off ) and then it boots up ok the second time when pressing the on button. haven't the faintest idea on what to do. Anyone willing to help out is appreciated. Thank you. Bye , Neil

Thanks.  My Acer E5-511 works fine when I used the the Win 10 recovery and go back to Win 8.1.  When I reinstalled Win 10 it had the same problem with the brightness bar. I will try the Microsoft Win 10 Reset today and report back.  Until then changing the brightness settings works ok for me. Thanks,Dale

I did a windows 10 update, but to my dismay I lost my touchscreen functions. I checked the properties on MY COMPUTER and it now says, pen and touch input not supported. Help pls

Hmmm.. I upgraded my R7 572G but my touch screen is ok. I'm not sure what you did. However, my problem was the screen does not auto-rotate in Windows 10. So I went to this folder to run as administrator to fix the auto rotate problem and it works. C:\OEM\Preload\FIXAUTOROTATE\EnableRotate.cmd

  • Acer Aspire Switch 10E - unable to boot, no keyboard

    Hello everyone,
I have recently bought an Acer Aspire Switch 10E to do my terrain work, and would love to be able to run Linux on it. I'm running into one problem after another though (most likely because some things aren't officially supported yet, but I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences who might be able to help me out. To cut the long story short, from my own experience, I'm sure Linux can run on this.
In any case, the machine features a quad-core Intel Atom CPU (which should work AFAIK), with Intel HD graphics (which should also work flawlessly AFAIK). It also features a Realtek RTL8273BS WiFi network card (haven't got to trying it out, but my guesstimate is that it requires some proprietary firmware, since it didn't work on Ubuntu live). It has a 1280x800 touchscreen (which worked flawlessly on Ubuntu live), and a dockable keyboard (now that one boggles me). This is just a quick "tldr" version of what the machine is supposed to be. It's basically a 64-bit x86-compatibile tablet PC with a dockable keyboard and which shipped with Windows 8.1.
Okay, so first things first. The Acer Aspire Switch 10E has a 32-bit UEFI, and there is no possible way of booting an OS (live or otherwise, Linux or otherwise) which only has a 64-bit EFI image. There is no legacy BIOS on the motherboard, so (to whom it may concern), don't even bother with online tutorials that tell you to switch to legacy BIOS, as there is no way to enable it. On the other hand, a valid 32-bit EFI image will boot, even in Secure Mode, so don't bother disabling that either. In other words, there is absolutely no need to change anything in the UEFI setup in order to boot Linux, apart from adding your 32-bit EFI image to a trusted list.
Thus, in order to boot any live Linux media, it is (TTBOMK) required to either generate a working 32-bit EFI image, or use an existing one. It took me a while to figure that out, on top of the time to figure out how to generate my own 32-bit EFI image, without breaking something. Bear with me here - this is the first machine I ever owned that features an UEFI, let alone an UEFI without legacy BIOS.
Here is the stuff I found, which I was able to use to get to this point:
UEFI GPT Arch Linux USB (bootx64.efi and bootia32.efi) - Taylorbyte.com
Acer Aspire Switch 10 can't boot 14.04 LTS - Ubuntu Forums
From Ubuntu forums, I learned about this and this, both of which have bootable 32-bit EFI images, which work on Ubuntu live. Those, however, did not work with Arch Linux, for some reason, so I generated my own EFI images from the tutorial found on Taylorbyte.com. Not absolutely sure if I did it right however, since the tutorial seemed a bit dated, but it did get me into the basics I needed.
So, I now have a bootable USB drive with Arch Linux installed on it, with both 32-bit and 64-bit EFI images. My Acer Aspire 10E recognises the 32-bit EFI image and boots into GRUB loader from it, which asks me whether to boot into Arch Linux or Arch Linux Fallback. At this point, my keyboard still works, and I can choose either.
However, as soon as I choose Arch Linux to boot, it complains about being unable to boot from "UUID=<my USB's UUID>", and drops me into a boot console. The cursor blinks, but the keyboard input is not recognised at all.
I have recompiled the kernel for my live Arch USB (via makepkg -o and makepkg -e) as stated on the Ubuntu forums (setting HID_MAX_USAGE = 65536 in a certain header file in the kernel sources), but it didn't do much. The kernel still compiles, so I guess that's a plus.
Without keyboard, I am unable to install Arch on this machine, and I'm currently stuck with this error, which I'm not sure what to make of. I have never stated any UUID's while configuring my Arch live USB, so I suppose something is detecting it automatically, thus preventing Arch from booting (no idea what it could be, though).
So to conclude, I need help with booting Arch live USB on this machine, as well as getting keyboard to work. I have read here and there some people had some success with either Arch, Fedora or Ubuntu, and I've seen (32-bit) Debian 8.1 installer boot normally - without keyboard or wifi, though.
Any help regarding this would be very much appreciated.

Hi Marc, Thanks for the swift response.  I'm not sure if Acer (Philippines) will be able to give the necessary support since they are only selling the Switch 10 (not even Switch 11! So backwards!) . I don't mind reinstalling the file from time to time as long as it will fix the problem asap. Would it be possible to know how often you reinstalled the exe file to fix the problem?  One more thing, the only thing that's hindering on buying the Switch 12 are problems like these (since we don't have the tech support yet). Would it be possible for you to send me the fix for the keyboard problem? Thank you very much! ++ How's the experience when you are using it on your lap, let say when travelling on a plane ? Is the built stable enough that it won't stumble that easily?

Creating a Mavericks USB boot drive after the horse has bolted.  Can I create a bootable USB drive from my iMac after installing Mavericks without saving the Install OS X Mavericks.app file?  Do I need to re- download the whole 5.29 Gb from the App Store again?  My problem is my 4Gb/month allowance on a 12 month contract.  I cannot purchase a data block from my ISP and although my speed is theoretically slowed to 64k after reaching my 4Gb, it actually ceases to download in reality.

HI tasclix, it depends what you mean by an OS X boot drive.
If you want a recovery disk from which you can reinstall (by re-downloading) or recover from a time machine backup, then nbar is correct.
If, however, you want to boot and run the OS X installer from the USB drive (so that you don't need to download again), then you will need a copy of "Install OS X  Mavericks.app"; see this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5856
Before downloading again, search your system to see if the installer is still there - it's usually in the /Applications folder unless it has been deleted, but check your whole system for it anyway, you never know, you might still have it somewhere.

  • How to stop the boot process after the GRUB menu?

    Hello there.
I am getting an error message in the boot process, after the GRUB menu, but I can't read completely the message because it is shown too fast. So, how can I stop the process when I see the error message, for writing down it?

I didn't try this before, but if you use systemd, you may want to try systemd.confirm_spawn to invoke interactive booting process, so you can start the services one by one manually therefore locate the one throwing out error message.
It is explained in the systemd manual:

Since a few weeks all my iTunes Updates fail to install. After the installation trial, the previous installation is damaged – a service is missing :
To fix this I have to deinstall all components of Apple Software in exact order as you reveal on your web site. Than reinstall iTunes from Scratch.
I am using Windos 7 64 bit Professional German edition.

    Hi,
to see the cause of Windows 8 update failures, we must look for error messages in the following log files:
Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the setupapi.dev.log from the folder C:\Windows\Inf, the "C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log" and the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log"
to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip to your SkyDrive [1] and post a link here.

  • Please help Mum's Acer Aspire 8.1 won't boot to windows even with a windows disc BSOD

Hi.  I am sooo very frustrated.  My mum has an ACER Aspire E1-522 series.  She's been having probs with it since last summer as it turned very s-l-o-w and would take forever to do its updates...however, the internet is messed up here sometimes and hard to 'jump onto' with Wifi as she's not 'hardwired' to the internet.  Anyway, I had cleaned out her system a few times, no probs...Then AFTER the last update from windows ( approx. a month ago) and the computer shut itself down. Whenever she turned it on, it would 'interrupt' her after sign on screen for Windows and then say it was fixing itself.  I told her I would try to fix it (as we CANNOT afford to take it to repair for $100+) So I bought a 16g usb to do a back up on (it has never been done) as the back up would not go onto discs (??) Now, that I invested $ in that, the darn thing will ONLY come on with logo, and IF I'm lucky, will come on with blue screen "windows encountered an error, wait for repair..." then it goes black (or sometimes blue) for days...WHAT can I do?? How do I fix this? I don't know how to get the battery out either, but I don't want to damage the computer in case it does have to go to the shop.  And how does one even 'get in' for the RAM in case that is the problem? PLEASE PLEASE help!! ( it's not even 2 yrs. old... but it is out of warranty...) Thank you for reading my rant! (OH-PS: We tried to boot to windows with a disc and NO luck..)

    Hi,
Would you please first check if the system can startup into Safe mode?
Then, please try the startup repair in Advanced menu after you boot your computer via installation media.
How Run "Automatic Repair" to Fix Startup Issues in Windows 8 and 8.1
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2843-automatic-repair-run-windows-8-a.html
Then, if the issue still persists, try to boot PC in WinRE, and enter command prompt to run following commands:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

  • Cant boot up after the 10.4.9 update :(

Well, I too am now stuck, unable to boot after the 10.4.9 update. My problems are a bit different than others on this forum. When I boot up, I get the dong startup sound. Then it switches to the white screen with the apple logo. The spinner NEVER shows up however. After awhile, the G5 fans start revving up really loud. I have let it run in this mode for up to an hour, and nothing ever happens beyond that.
I have tried to boot up in single user and verbose mode, but I cannot. I press Command-S or Command-V right after the dong startup, but nothing happens except that it goes to the Apple logo screen.
I am able to hold down Shift at startup, but then when I click my disk icon, it hangs at the Apple logo screen again.
I am currently running the Extended Hardware test from my Powermac G5 CD. It looks like everything is going to pass just fine.
I am a huge fan of Apple, but this just absolutely *****. It seems there are a lot of people having these problems. Get your stuff together Apple.
Does anyone have any idea what else I can try?

    I got the following:
    Checking Catalog file:
    Invalid key length
    Volume check failed
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
    Uh oh.

  • Install failed - won't reboot off the Windows CD in order to "re-format"

My installation went OK until the reboot failed. The error I get is "Disk Error - press any key to restart" but it won't restart with a key press. Nothing. Have to power down / restart - hold Option - etc.
How can I reformat the partition so that I can boot into Boot Camp, when I remove the disk and try this I get the same thing.
If I put the Windows CD in and start with the "C" key pressed it just restarts the installation (3rd time).
Any ideas ? Am I confused about what is supposed to happen ? Either way, I'm stuck.
    Thanks,
    Ed

Well, I used a Vista CD instead and it seems to have worked. Although not by the book. Seems OK though.
I think my XP CD wasn't bootable for some reason.
    Thanks,
    Ed

  • Cannot get to dual-boot screen after Win 8.1 upgrade

    Hello,
I have an iMac with Mavericks. Recently installed Win 8 to dual-boot. Instrux then were to hold OPT button during startup to be presented with options for OS with which to boot.
Since Win 8.1 upgrade there is no way to get to that prompt. MS/Win help topics not useful (unsurprisingly). I have the original install disk but would far prefer to save my current config of Mav. Thoughts for workaround?
    Cheers,
    Michael C

holding down option key at bootup not giving you the bootmenu have nothing to do with win8.1
even if one never installed anything in terms bootcamp at all then holding down the option key should give the option between osx and the restore to last clean osx version
if you don't get the option then I'd say the cause is not windows as the menu is handled by the bootloader which is before windows takes over

  • OPMN fails in cluster environment after the machie reboots.

    Dear All:
Have you ever meet the following problem or have any suggestion for it? Thanks a lot.
There are machine A and B have been setup successfully in a cluster environment, everything is fine.
However, after the machine B reboots, the Oracle BI Server and Presentation Server in machine B could not start.
The error message for Oracle BI Server is:
[2011-06-02T10:40:34.000+00:00] [OracleBIServerComponent] [NOTIFICATION:1] [] [] [ecid: ] [tid: 1060] Server start up failed: [nQSError: 43079] Oracle BI Server could not start because locating or importing newly published repositories failed.

    The detail information is:
    1)     Machine A and B both run Windows 2008 server 64bit.
    2)     Machine A runs Admin Server+BI_Server1(managed server). Machine B is configured with “Scale out an existing installation” option and runs BI_Server2(managed server).
    3)     BIEE 11.1.1.3
    4)     In EM, the shared location of shared repository has been set to something like \\10.91.61.158\shared\RPD. The catalog path has been set to \\10.91.61.158\BIEEShare\CATALOG\SampleAppLite. Both path could be accessed by machine A and B.
    5)     Before machine B reboots, everything is fine. All the servers could be started.
    6)     After machine B reboots, the managed server BI_server2 could be started successfully. However, “opmnctl startall” would incur the above error message.
Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks a lot!

I have previously installed Boot Camp on this Computer (MBP mid 2012, 15" 2.6 GHZ).  I recently replaced the hard drive and was reestablishing bootcamp again.  While Boot Camp is writing to the USB thunb drive it crashes and rebootrs.  The crash does not generate and message other than a note that there has been an error and the computer is restarting.  I have tried several different thumb drives all with the same result.  It makes me think that the new hard drive (a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 7200 rpm unit) does not work with Boot Camp.  Does anyone have any thoughts or solutions?

    Hi,
I solved the problem myself. This might help others.
    Recap:
The Windows XP Pro CD was always ejected by Boot Camp and it wouldn't mount at all when inserted in the CD slot. The CD was however readable on a Windows Machine.
It was not easy to detect but the Windows CD was physically deformed. It wasn't flat. It was a little convex (the outer edge was higher than its center). My iMac wasn't able to read it at all but a PC was able until I decided to test it with a full install on the PC. About half way during the installation, it stopped and an error message was displayed by Windows Setup "Disc Read Error - Disc might be damaged".
I ejected the CD and discovered the deformation. So I carefully placed the outer edge of the CD over a ring and put some weight on its center to try to undo the deformation. I've waited 2 days then retested the CD and it worked at the first attempt. My iMac was happy and so was I. I made a security copy of the CD while it's still readable in case I have to re-install later.
I find Microsoft cheap of putting their Installation CD in a paper sleeve. If the CD have been stored in a CD case this would not have happened.
    End of the story.

  • How do I restore Windows 7 in Boot Camp after the Lion Update?

I was hoping my Lion update would be as smooth as other users' - unfortunately, it has messed up Boot Camp. The partition is now "Lion Recovery HD". I would like to know:
if the original Boot Camp partition has been erased - i.e. I need to do a full reinstall
how to go about recovering my original partition (I did a backup of the partition prior to the Lion Update)
if my Windows 7 is an upgrade disk, will I need to install Vista first?
    Thank you!

    this is what i see:

  • Windows 7 crashes on boot repeatedly after 10.9.2 upgrade

As the title says, after running the 10.9.2 upgrade last night, it's impossible to boot up into Windows 7. Just preceding the login screen, my MacBook Pro restarts itself. A following Windows boot attempt brings up the "recovery" screen where you're able to attempt a diagnostic / repair, or boot normally. The repair process gets as far as trying to restore the system "to a previous safe state", but as both my keyboard and mouse are completely unrecognized (re: nonfunctioning) at that point, I can't even click anything to attempt to proceed.
    Anyone have thoughts? Much appreciated.

I am also having the same problem with Windows 8.1. Was working perfectly fine until I updated Mavericks to 10.9.2.
Now when I restart the computer and boot from the Windows partition windows begins it's boot process then the screen goes blank. I end up having to power down.
I also would love some help here!!
