My Acer Aspire One (Linpus lite) has downloaded firefox 4 but I can't open it!

My firefox browser informed me automatically that there was a more recent version and I agreed to install it. Since then whenever I click on the icon the timer spiral operates for a second then nothing happens.
Could sort this in windows but the Acer One makes accessing these sorts of things complicated for non-linux aware people - any help gratefully received!

If your AA1 is still behaving properly (except for Firefox) see here:

• I downloaded and installed Firefox but I can't open the program.

This is the third time I've downloaded Firefox on this computer and have been unable to open it. I allowed it to become my default browser during installation but clicking on any weblink yielded this error message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program." When I changed the default browser back to Internet Explorer I could open websites using it, and also using Google Chrome, but still can't open Firefox.

• Looking for acer aspire one linpus file firefox3.sh.zip

Hi
I've just reinstalled Linux Linpus lite on my netbook and want to upgrade from ff2 to ver 3 but the files on acer's support website have been removed. The live update works but doesn't update Firefox properly. So I was wondering if you had an acer specific update file anywhere? The specific file I'm after is Firefox3.sh.zip. I;ve been in touch with acer and have had no luck....
Thanks Tom

That file was probably created by Linpus or by Acer specifically for their program repository and not available from other sources, Mozilla only offers '''tar''' packages for Linux.
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Linux
That version of Linpus Lite may not even have the correct "packages" for Firefox 3+ versions, the key "package" is usually the GTK package being too old.
Linux on Netbooks only seemed to be popular for a short time here in the US, and IMO, Microsoft killed that "wave" by extending the date they allowed OEM's to sell WinXP Netbooks - until MS could come up with a Win7 Netbook OS. ''(That "date" was almost 2 years later than they allowed the OEM's to install WinXP on any other type of PC. The cost to OEM's was in the range of a couple of dollars, almost matching the zero-cost of Linux to consumers. "Smart marketing" or taking advantage of their "leverage" over OEM's and MS's almost monopolistic control of the OS market to OEM's?)'' As a result, there's little incentive for the various Netbook maker's to keep their Linux software repositories updated and to keep developing the operating system to keep pace with other Linux distros. MS shut that down fast, IMO.
I have an ASUS EeePC 900A, which I bought in Aug 2008, that came with Xandros Linux - Newegg offered me a WinXP OEM disk for $10 with the purchase of the EeePC. That version of Xandros Linux wasn't ever updated by ASUS to be able to run Firefox 3, but I found some Linux forum threads that provided a '''''sh''''' script that would both update the GTK package that Xandros needed for Firefox 3+ versions and install Firefox 3. After the update / installation was complete, I discovered how slow Firefox 3 ran on that old Xandros Linux operating system - it was worse with Firefox 3 than my old Pentium II 350MHz PC w/512 MB RAM was, even though the EeePC has a 900MHz processor and double the RAM (1GB). I dumped Xandros and installed the Ubuntu derived EasyPeasy OS, that came with Firefox 3.6 .
My advice is to install something like the Ubuntu Netbook Edition operating system, or one of the Ubuntu-offshoots like EasyPeasy; both of which come with one of the latest versions of Firefox, and are active projects.

• Hi, i have a new toshiba laptop with windows 7 home edition K and first thing i did was download firefox but it does not open... thank you!

Laptop is L630 and i bought it in Korea, language base is korean/english. I downloaded firefox first but it was US-english, so i uninstalled it and re-installed the uk-english version. Before that I set a persona on firefox 9the only add-on i was in time to set)
When i click on the icons it does not launch...
I tried several tiime to relaunch the PC but so far no change...

I can't think of any way to make the Navigation Toolbar appear/disappear based on which direction you move your mouse.
Well, there is full screen view, where the whole toolbar area including the tab bar slides up off the screen, and reappears if you slide the mouse pointer all the way to the top. (You can use the F11 key to turn full screen view on and off.)
Is it possible this is an option of one of your extensions?

• I have downloaded Firefox but it will not open. I have tried several times to install and then uninstall, but it still does not work.

We used to use Firefox..but for whatever reason it stopped opening. We uninstalled it and we found that the old version of Firefox would open but it would straight away update to the new version and then the problems would begin again and it would not open.

Using another browser, download the FULL installer from
'''[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems]''' {web link}
Save the file. Then;
Using your file browser, open the '''Programs''' folder on your computer.
'''Windows:''' C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (x86)
'''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
'''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla and Firefox folders by adding '''.old''' to them.
Now run the full installer.

• I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
'''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

• I have an older computer and could not read a pdf file so I just added the Adobe software for $14.95 and downloaded it but still can not open the reader. If I can't open it, please refund my money.

downloaded new software and still can't open files

Hi [email protected] ,
In order to read the PDF file, you need to download and install Adobe Reader. Please download it from the link below:

• I downloaded firefox but every time I open it it says like error or something. I press ok & it opens firefox but it sits there forever on the new tab page. What is this?

I'm not really sure what it means. It says: Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Could+not+initialize+the+browser+security+component
Rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) in the Firefox Profile Folder in case there is a problem with the file.
You may have to rename cert8.db (cert8.db.old) as well.
Firefox will create new files.
The file cert8.db stores user certificates and intermediate certificates send by websites, so if you have certificates that you want to keep then you may want to export them now and import them after having removed cert8.db.

• I recently downloaded illustrator but I can not open the app

how do i open the illustrator after i downloaded it. There is no icon on my desktop and it won't come up when i search it in my files

Hi David,
Did you download it from a browser or from the Creative cloud desktop app?
If it's a Mac the look in Go>> Applications & if it's Windows then look in C:\Program Files\Adobe or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe.
If it is not there that means it wasn't downloaded/installed properly and needs to be installed via Adobe Creative cloud desktop app.

• I downloaded firefox but it does not open at all.i need help.

i click on firefox on my desktop home screen, but nothing happens it does not open. i use to use it all the time until i updated it,after that is when the promblem started.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

• Wireless with acer aspire one linux linpus

hi everyone, have just had replacement hh3 which is connecting ok wireless to my laptop, but my wife has little acer aspire one which used to connect ok but now wont, it does pick up the fon sometimes but i would like it how it was and connecting directly to the hub. it does connect ok using a cable but not wireless. any help or suggestions please.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I would expect if you deleted all the existing wifi connections and then reboot. look for wireless connections available then select your ssid then connect - it will ask for key/password then enter then connect. it would normally save infor but I am not a linux user - works in windows

• How do I install the latest version of Firefox on my Acer Aspire One running Linpus Linux Lite?

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. It runs "Linpus Linux Lite" OS. It came with Forefox 2 installed. I have searched the web for advice on how to upgrade to Firefox 3.5.
I had a go at it, I have now lost Firefox 2, but failed to install a later version.
Can someone tell me how t0 get either Firefox 2 back, or better still, unstall Firefox 3.5?
I should say that I'm a novice so I need really basic instructions.
If this plea for help doesn't work, I'll take my netbook to my local PC chap & ask for Windows to be installed on it!
Thanks.
