My adobe reader - version 11 won't open a PDF

My adobe reader - version 11 won't open a PDF - I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled it - same problem.

What is your operating system?
Does the same thing still happen if you update to 11.0.4?

  • Adober Reader suddenly won't open any PDF files (Mac)

I had an old version, I downloaded the latest one, upgraded to the newest, even tried taking that one out and downloading an older version. It doesn't matter which version I seem to have, it won't open any pdf files from the web.
I use a Mac, and Safari. It used to always load PDF files fine, one random place said I had to update it so I did and since then, lately it'd crash and close all Safari windows when loading a PDF or trying to copy something from a PDF. The smart Mac message I have says it could be related to an Adobe Plug in. However, now it won't even load PDF files at all, it always goes to a white page. Nothing happens.
What do I do?? I can't even save the PDF's as individual files and view then in Preview as an alternative option. It's a link online and normally would work. What happened??
    HELP!
    I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
I've always used Safari, it's Version 5.0.5 (5533.21.1 if that means anything).
Acrobat Reader, currently an old version 9.4.0 download. BUT, I had also the 10.0.1 version which also doesn't work. When I had that 10.0.1 version and checked for updates, there was an update (.3 I think?) and I did that and that also doesn't work!
Why did it suddenly stop working?
What can I do to fix it ASAP?
Only with 9.4.0 version I can go to Help and "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" - I click that and the only box I can select is "Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin - View, fill-in and collaborate on Adobe PDFs within Safari"  - I click continue and it tells me there's "No missing components detected. Repairs are not needed." The only option is to click "OK".
With any newer version of Adobe Reader, under Help there is no option to "Repair Adobe Reader Installation". So... I can't even try that with a new version.
I am at a loss for solutions. Hope someone here can help! Thanks!

There are several things you can do. My first step would be to repair permissions. If that doesn't work log on as a different user. If all works properly then you have a corrupt preference file (most likely) or a corrupt user font installed in your user Library (less likely). If that doesn't work download Applejack. Have it repair the disk, remove all system caches and user caches. Then have it check all system and user preference files. Remove any preference files that are corrupt. Reboot and see if your system is working properly.

  • Help!  Adobe Reader 9 won't open a PDF in a browser window!

I just "upgraded" to Adobe Reader 9 today, on my Windows XP computer.
I run Firefox 3.0.8 as my web browser.
Since installing AR 9, I cannot open PDFs inside my browser.  When I try, I get the following error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDFs in a Web Browser.  Please exit Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
I have made sure my Application settings in Firefox are correct, associating PDFs with AR9.
I made sure "Display PDF in browser" is checked in AR9.
I need to be able to open PDFs in my browser for work. How do I fix this error?
    Thank you,
    Ben

No Solution here either, but I'm experiencing similar problems. When opening pdf's my system just hangs and I'm having to reboot. This is not helping me with my business at all.
I suppose it's just part and parcel of upgrading these days. Good luck with trying to down grade. I've just tried and there's more frustration than success. Oh well, I do have a 4 day weekend to get it going again.
    Best of luck to you,
    John

  • Adobe reader x won't open in xp

adobe reader x won't open in xp.. I have uninstalled and reloaded it still will not work

I did the following and it fixed the problem...
Let us assign permissions to the C drive(or the drive where you have installed the OS) and then check.
To apply permissions to a file or folder for a user:
    a. Right-click on the C drive and then click Properties.
    c. Click the Security tab, and then click Edit.
    d. Do one of the following:
        i. To set permissions for a user that is not listed under Group or user names, click Add, type the name of the user or group, click OK, select the permissions, and then click OK.
ii. To change or remove permissions from an existing group or user, click the name of the group or user, select the permissions, and then click OK.

I have a user on Adobe Reader X.  whenever they open a .pdf file, the form fields do not auto-fill until you click in the box.  Is there a setting that can be changed to make the form open properly?

Sounds like the form fields were filled in on a Mac using Mac Preview. This cannot be fixed in Reader only Acrobat. Ask the person who filled in the form to redo their work in Adobe Reader.

  • Can open adobe reader, but can't open a pdf.

can open adobe reader, but can't open a pdf.  have uninstalled reader 2 times and reinstalled it, but still get same results.  running windows xp.

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why?

Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why?

    Hi Michael,
“AdbeRdr11003_en_US.exe” is the download installed on our CEO’s new Windows 8 laptop.  It is a Dell XPS Re: Windows 8 Adobe Reader will not fully open a pdf compiled with several pdf's into one - why? Dell XPS 13" .  It has a full install Windows 8 Professional for its’ Operating System.
I’ll attempt to attach the file in question.  The file opens fine on our Windows 7, and XP computers (with  the proper Adobe Reader on each).
Our CEO says there is a message that comes up saying he needs Adobe Flash.  I’m attempting to find out whether or not he is trying to open it the ‘Metro’ view, or the ‘Desktop’ view – no answer yet.
If your system strips the attachment, let me know, and I’ll upload the file to an ftp site {if necessary}.

  • How do i make adobe reader my default to open any pdf file

how do i make adobe reader my default to open any pdf file?

What is your current default?  If Adobe Acrobat (X or XI), you can set it in your preferences.
If it's another program, reinstalling or repairing Adobe Reader will set it to the default program.

  • Does anyone know why Reader X won't open secure .pdf, such as a downloaded manual?

I'm using Vista 64,and updated to Reader X.  It will open standard .pdf files, but secure ones (I downloaded manuals for my Canon digital camera software) not only will not open, but cause Reader X to stop responding.
My temporary solution:  delete X and reinstall 9.4.whatever.
What has happened to the infallibility of this software?

It could be that there is a problem with the pdf files. Each version of Acrobat and Reader are more intolerant to malformed pdfs as that is a vector for spyware and virii.

  • Adobe Reader X won't open pdfs in IE8

I've just updated my installation of Adobe Reader X to the latest version, 10.01. Now it won't open web hosted pdfs in Internet Explorer (the previous version did). When I try and open a pdf from a web host I'm told that the file can't be open with the default program (and suggests that the file might be corrupt); I'm only given the option to save the file. Once saved locally on my harddrive Reader X opens the file without complaint.
Any ideas how to solve this? I'm running Internet Explorer 64bit under Windows 7 Home Pro. 64bit and Internet Explorer 8. An interesting note is that the pdfs do open correctly in IE8 32bit.

I have exactly the same problem. Running win 7 64 and IE8 64. Everything was working perfect in version 9. I have tried to repair and looking for solutions too.

  • Adobe Reader 9 won't open some files -- jp2klib.dll

I've had this problem for some time, and I think I've at least narrowed it down a bit. The problem is that some (but not all) PDF files cannot be opened in Adobe Reader 9.x on some computers, though they open fine on others. When you click on a problem file, or try to open it from within AR 9, the file may begin to display, but very quickly you get Windows' message "Adobe Reader 9.2 has encountered a problem and needs to close." AR then crashes; or rather, Windows shuts it down. The crash report gives the following basic information:
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 9.2.0.124 ModName: jp2klib.dll
    ModVer: 2.0.0.4526 Offset: 00032c0d
I tried copying a different version of jp2klib.dll that was on my computer, but that did not help.
This problem only occurs on my desktop, not on the laptop, so it seems to be due to some interaction between jp2klib.dll and a specific driver or piece of hardware.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

There isn't any video acceleration. This is a pretty old computer. I've got a Samsung 912N flat-screen monitor, an HP DeskJet 6940 printer, an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner, an RCA cable modem, and a U.S. Robotics MAXg wireless router attached to it, as well as an ancient Compaq mouse and a Fellowes Glidepoint touchpad.

  • Adobe Reader 9 Won't open at all

Randomly my adobe reader stopped working. It won't open PDF's from google chrome or IE. I've tried restarting my computer, installing Reader X, and tried reinstalling reader 9...nothing has worked. Also, adobe reader won't even open

How are you doing the rename?
The letters between backslashes are folders names. The list of folder names describe a "path" to a folder or file (i.e. folder1\folder2\folder3).
%appdata% is a shortcut that expands to something like johnvic36\AppData\Roaming on your specific computer depending on what your user account is named.
The folder names that need to be renamed are:
    com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.0
    and
    Adobe Muse CC
"com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.0" is in %appdata%. It should be renamed from "com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.0" to "com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.0_old".
The specific Adobe Muse CC folder that needs to be renamed is in %appdata%\Adobe. It should be renamed from "Adobe Muse CC" to "Adobe Muse CC_old".

The latest Adobe Reader (11.0.02) won't open more than one PDF at a time. Seems to require continual re-install for each open. And each time I install, it says the application is already present on my machine, yet I cannot find it anywhere. Any suggestions out there?
