Im running 10.10, Mac OSX, it was running fine before a minor update came out, and now I can not open AE CS6. I have uninstalled, reinstalled it, installed the trial of CC 2014. No messages beside "After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup" come up.

Well, looks like a bug in Yosemite. You might wanan read the pertinent announcements, anyway. At this point Adobe apps are not compatible with OSX 10.10.

  • Problem converting WMV movie file to format Adobe After Effects can read...

Trying to convert a windows WMV movie clip so that Adobe After Effects can read, as the Mac OSX version of After Effects does not like WMV.

i'm with the Captain's answer, Flip4Mac's Windows Media Components will allow you to work with the files directly in AE or other QT compliant application
but whilst the free player version will allow you to view the files, you'll need to pony up for at least the Player Pro version if you intend to transcode to another format (otherwise the copy will have a Flip4Mac watermark)

I installed the CC trial with an error window saying: Could not create the file '/Users/dranim/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.2/dummy'.  That was the first window.   Heres the second: After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup  I paid for the month subscription of 29.99. It claims it is downloading again?! Am I missing something here? Why is this process so complicated? I need to get this resolved asap and start working.

I originally had Adobe Photoshop Extended, then upgraded to the Production Suite. I ran the Adobe Cleaner, and that uninstalled most Adobe products, including my existing Adobe install, and then I re-installed everything with the same error code. Since CS4 came with CS5, I've installed AE CS4, but would really like to upgrade because I'm new to Creative Suite, and not sure how CS4 integrates with CS5...CS4 After Effects installed perfectly. I do have a 64 bit system, and installing to an OCZ Vertex 2....every other suite installs perfectly, except AE. And I think that is the coolest program in the Suite. I thank you all so much for taking the time to help, I really want to get AECS5 running...I did try to install after doing the recommended items Adobe suggests for Exit Codes 6 and 7, including turning off many startups...
    I'm baffled....

  • After Effects CC not booting correctly.

My After Effects is taking more than 4 minutes to load and when it does appears to have some errors and not function correctly, taking a long time to do anything and RAM preview only lasting about 10 frames.
    I am running a Macbook Pro 13" Retina Display 2013, OSX 10.9.1, 2.8 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, Intel Iris 1024 MB.
During boot up the loading logo gets stuck on this...
    ...for over 2 minutes. This...
...for over a minute, and then this...
For over a minute, totaling over 4 minutes to load the program once the program does load these 2 errors appear...
Similar problems also seem to happen when I launch Premiere and Audition so I'm guessing its codec related? This doesnt seem to be a problem with my computer power as Photoshop launches in under 4 seconds. I have Quicktime installed both versions X and 7 so I'm a bit stumped. I've seen a couple of help threads on Quicktime problems and have tried the fixes but nothing seems to do anything. I've updated to the latest version through the CC update program.
    Help!

Regarding the link you posted my firewall is not enabled. The only codecs in my quicktime folder are AppleIntermediateCodec and AppleMPEG2Codec which I assume are 1st party not 3rd party?
What exact version of After Effects? Include the minor version number (e.g., After Effects CS5.5 with the 10.5.1 update). Do not just say "After Effects with the latest updates"; give the specific version number.
    After Effects CC v12.2.0.5.2
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
Yes, I am up to date with the latest version.
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".

I would be fine reinstalling Windows. But I'm not sure how to get Windows to install on the partition if I erase the current disk5. Yosemite seems to be a bit different then getting it set up on Mavericks.

  • After effects can't handle a simple gradient

    Hi there
was wondering if anyone can help me seeing how adobe tech support over the phone have not been helpful in the slightest.
I am using production premium cs4, I mostly  after effects and photoshop,  I work on a very  high spec mac pro with snow leopard, however after effects runs very slow, often not being able to give me a full ram preview even after using the edit > purge> all  function.
One of the many issues I am dealing with is how it cant handle any sort of gradient, it justi've included a picture below. This is constantly flickering even when i'm not scrubbing across the time line.
Photoshop is the other screen image, this happens pretty much every time I open a file no matter what its size.
I've tried checking and un-checking the open GL switch but that does nothing.
Everything else on the mac works fine! Super fast infact, I've had to use imovie and Gimp (open source image editor) to get things done as the adobe software is really slow and crashes all the time.
I hope somebody out there can help,
    Thank you for reading.

I'm still waiting for Adobe to transfer my 20000 Euros so I can buy me one of those shiny Macs along with some software , so I can't advise (have avoided 10.6 like the pest on my MacBook), but if you want an honest opinion: Your graphics card is defective or something is up with your motherboard and the slot it is mounted in (not unheard of, given how Apple designs its stuff around the lowest margins, leaving barely any headroom). Never in the world can any rudimentary screen drawing operation cause such artifacts otherwise. I really would replace it, eitehr the card or the whole machine.

  • Premiere & After Effects - Can I Make A Film?

I have After Effects and Premiere CS3.
Is it possible to create comps in After Effects in the 2K or 4K size and edit them in Premiere, to be output to film later?
I have made plenty of cartoons with AE/Premiere that wound up on DVDs, but I have wondered if it is possible to use those programs to make a short film with film-sized resolution.
If not, for what application are the 2K & 4K comps intended?
    Thanks!

Is it possible to create comps in After Effects in the 2K or 4K size and edit them in Premiere, to be output to film later?
Yes, perfectly. However, for that to be halfway painless, AE ideally needs to run on a 64bit operating system so it can take full advantage of the maximum addressable RAM (4GB on Windows, 3GB on Mac). And of course you will need a lot of processor power as well. The question also is, what you are going to output - true 2K/ 4K or just 24fps HD 1080. The latter is quite common to use for short films and commercials in cinemas these days. As for other tools - well, depends on what you do. Fusion and Nuke may offer more robust features in some areas, but e.g. if you work based on Flash files, they may not be all to helpful for your project since the won't handle SWFs natively. Likewise, going back and forth between Premiere and the comp app would not be as straightforward. It's really a mixed bag, but you should consider that these programs come from the world of movies where a per-shot based compositing approach is used and other features are predominant. This may not lend itself to what you plan on doing. also think about the day when you may need to get other people on board with regards whzat tools they use and how you exchange data as well as their specific skills. You may even find that your best buddy who so far has only been using Photoshop to draw background plates has a full Master collection and would be able to use AE and Premiere as well without hassle, so rather than shelving out more money for otehr tools, that may already swing the decision in a specific direction....

  • "After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed [...] (0 :: 42)" error message

    Hey all.
I've recently been getting the aforementioned error message, and from what I've gathered from my reading into the problem it's probably the most generic AE error message there is. Fun. If it makes a difference, it always appears when AE is initializing the User Interface. I haven't tried all the other programs yet, but Photoshop CS2 seems to load up without a problem, as does Premiere Pro 2.0.
I'm running AE 7.0 as part of the Creative Suite Production Studio Premium (Student Edition), 2GB of RAM, and am running on a Gateway MX6640b (?) laptop. And I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to the technical side of computers, so my apologies if I haven't listed all the relevant specs of my laptop.
I haven't been able to pinpoint what may have caused this problem (I guess that's pretty evident), but I've tried a ton of stuff to try and get it sorted. I've ran multiple disk checks (which have thrown up a bunch of unreadable files, all of which have now been fixed. Though it seems to always find another bad file cluster each time I run it), defragged the hard drive, updated my video drivers, reinstalled AE7 as well as uninstalling and installing it, installed the AE Render Engine, ran the Adobe Updater, and uninstalled and installed the entire Creative Suite. I haven't installed any new fonts since I last used it (I've read that incompatible fonts may cause this error message). And now I'm at a real loss about what to do.
Incidentally, by running the "Install After Effects Render Engine" program, it actually threw up more error messages when AE was starting up than before despite the fact that it claims to fix bugs / corrupt files etc. For some reason it couldn't find any of the palettes (Audio, Tool, and the like) - but I sorted that out when I uninstalled and reinstalled AE.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can run AE without OpenGL capable hardware, so that shouldn't be the cause of your problems. It's probably either a corrupt preference file or QuickTime installation.
Try these tips and report back:
    i http://generalspecialist.com/2007/02/troubleshooting-after-effects-7.asp
The "Render Engine" is a version of AE that can be used on unmanaged machines that collaboratively render a project over a network. That's why it doesn't have all the options. It can't be used for anything other than rendering.
Make sure you enable "Show hidden files/folders" in Windows XP's view preferences. See my blog post for other ways of deleting the preferences.

  • After Effects can't find AfterFXLib.dll file and crash on start up

    PLease help.
After Effects crash on start up giving a message that the file AfterFXLib.dll is missing.
I searched for that file in the provided location and found it there.!!!
    Why AE doesn't recognise it?
    What shall I do?

Without system information, nobody can tel lyou anything. DLLs not being loaded could depend on amillion factors from a broken install to security tools blocking functions to third-party DLLs referenced by the specific DLL not being on your system. As a start, simply reinstall the program. For anything beyond that, we need some serious technical facts.

  • Pausing "Media Export" in PP... - After Effects can do this

    Hi everyone,
Just more curious than anything, but was wondering why Premiere Pro doesn't have a pause feature when rendering a video, while After Effects does.
It is a feature that could be handy in PP also, if all of a sudden you have something that has more priority and you wish to pause a rendering without aborting it.
    Dave.

    Hi Bill,
Well, now I'm in trouble.  I guess I did mean "export" .  See, I'm a 3DS Max guy from ages ago, and I grew up with "rendering" scenes, and so I always say "rendering" when in fact PP is "exporting"
    I feel a bit embarrased now :-(
My video sequence is ready to go... I go to File --> Export --> Media --> EXPORT.
I always call this "rendering"   oops, sorry for the confusion.
In AE, the outputting of frames into a video format, is called "rendering"  , 2 different terms but the same outcome is achieved.
    Sorry for the confusion.
    Dave
    the_wine_snob wrote:
    David,
Thank you for that clarification. Coming from you, I assumed that you DID mean Rendering. Some posters mix up Render and Export.
Colin has pointed out how to "continue" Rendering. As you will observe, the red lines turn green, incrementally. At the worst, you might loose a little bit, of the last segment being Rendered. Colin nailed it.
    Good luck,

  • What versions of After Effects can open project files from which versions?

Since this question comes up a lot, I just created this article that gives the details for all of the versions going back to After Effects 7.0:
"opening After Effects projects from previous versions and saving back to previous versions"

Please look at the Oracle Text reference manual for a list. Ultra Search uses the INSO filters of the underlying Text engine.
