My airport card is activated but refuses to be connected at any local network

r       My airprot card is activated but refuses to be connected at any local network even when i do enter the correct password (wep key). I want to know if the problem is my airport card or something else.
  thank you for your answering

You don't want a WEP based network.  Those are easily cracked.  If your network is WEP, it may have already been cracked, and someone changed the password.  Change it to WPA2.  If you are stuck with an 802.11b device on the network, hook it up via ethernet based 802.11g or better wireless/ethernet router.

  • Airport does'nt want to connect to ANY wireless network

    hello there.
once more someone writing who is experiencing problems with the macbooks incorporated airport.
after joining a 3rd party wifi and returning home, my macbook is unable to connect to ANY wifi network. the bar is completely grey, but airport finds all available networks. in the network dialog appears "airport is active, but not connected to any network", indicated by a red lamp. i am also not able to connect to my network's router typing its local ip in the browser.
rebooting hundreds of times, removing all networks from the list and re-adding my WEP-secured home network did not solve the problem.
i also tried almost all solutions apple offers to fix airport problems including installing the newest firmware, but all this resulted the same.
in the diagnostics, airport seems to work normally, exept that i cannot connect to any network. furthermore, now my macbook does not accept the (correct!!!) WEP for the wifi, telling me that it is invalid - i tried it with and without the "$" in the beginning.
does anybody have an idea how to bring me back online?
    gracias, benbanderas

IM having a very similar problem myself! i have my Macbook for around a year now and i have never actually had any problems with it apart from the wireless connection. my router is a speedtouch 576 and i have never been able to pick up a signal.
I dont fully know how to connect it to a wireless network even if there was signal because I have never been able to go online wirelessly. when i do get a signal a bar appears then disapears several times and when i try to connect it says password is wrong even though it might be correct (using all different 128's and using the $ )
not sure if it is a hardware roblem but I wondered if i could take it to an apple care store and see what they think about it. perhaps thats the best thing you could do if you have applecare?

    Hello NotAppleSavy,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the computer wont connect to networks. I see you have used network diagnostic. I would recommend that you read this article, there are a lot of other things you can do in this article that may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • When I try to sync my iPod iCal with my MBP iCal via WiFi I get a message saying "Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" but I am connected to a local network and thus the syncing does not complete"

When I try to sync my iPod iCal with my MBP (OS 10.7) iCal via iTunes and WiFi I get a message saying "Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" but I am connected to a local network and thus the syncing does not complete because the downloading never completes because I am not connected to the internet.
Why does syncing iCal need Safari Safe Browsing Data?  How can I turn this off?

    See:

"Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" is just some data that is synce with the computer. To turn off on the Mac go to System Preferencs>iCloud and turn off Safari

you have definitely tried the correct steps, all you would need to do now is a back up & restore to factory settings. If after that the issue remains then you would most likely need a replacement unit.

  • PC has 'excellent' connection to Airport card in G4, but...

I have a G4 tower with an Airport Card configured to "Allow this computer to create networks".
I have a PC laptop that has "excellent signal strength" connecting to the wireless network I have set up on the Airport card.
According to my ISP, once I register my Airport card's MAC address with them, I should be able to connect to the internet with any device that has a wireless card in it.
I cannot, however, get a DHCP address on the PC through Airport card, whose MAC address is registered with the ISP. Again, the signal strength from the Airport card in the G4 to the PC is "excellent".
They cannot help me as they do not support wireless networks, and Apple can't help as the unit 'seeing' the wireless network is a PC.
Can anyone out there help me?
    Much obliged...

Okay, I got it sorted out! Thanks both of you... iFelix, after a while I did find your links
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1011.html
    and
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1010.html
and followed them, and I had done everything exactly right. I was getting the 10.0.x.x address on the PC, but was not getting to the outside world.
So I called a PC using friend (my boss actually -- cool when you can call your boss your friend) and he helped me determine on the PC that all was right (I am novice on PC but almost expert on Mac), then he suggested I turn OFF "Firewall" in my Sharing System Preference. That is what did it. I had Firewall turned on, and as soon as I toggle it, I either gain or lose access with my clients talking through the airport card. (BTW - meantime I ran to work to get my PB G4 and it is the same way, with Firewall ON, I can't get through the airport card, although I do have a 10.0.2 address, with Firewall OFF, I can get through on both the PC and the PB....)
Also, just to clarify, my ISP allows 2 MAC addresses, so I kept the one for my G4 Tower and added the one for the airport card. Now my G4 talks though the ethernet cable to the ADSL modem and my notebooks talk through the airport card in the G4 tower. Pretty slick!
And RichB, yes, you were correct on both counts.. I had already configured Internet Sharing and yes, I do lose connection if the tower goes to sleep.
Thank you both, I'll know to go here first.... I am dissapointed in Apple's tech support, he refused to even go through my settings on my G4 with me because I was trying to get a PC to connect (even after I clearly explained it WAS already connected as the PC reported "excellent signal strength").
    Again, much obliged.

  • Adding a Lucent airport card...but need a slightly longer cable to make it

Not wishing to pay the premium prices now being fetched for the original airport card i bought Lucent Gold card from EBAY. It is installed in the computer now and without having to add any drivers my imac say it and added it at startup and now airport shows up in my network ports and is turned on. The only thing holding me back is that the card ias about an inch longer than the airport card making a connection to the internal antenna impossible. I need about another inch or two. I think I culd crack open the imac and find that there is plenty of slack...but I would rather NOT do that just yet. Does anyone know if there isa pigtail available to extend the imac internal wireless cable?
    Thanks!!

    Hey tm311,
That's interesting that it works without an antenna.
A common problem with the Airport card is not fully
seating the antenna. I'm impressed that you had
another antenna just laying around the house!
    Clint
I did not have one laying around...in fact this whole wireless thing is kind of new to me. I ordered this one online and it is coming today. I let you know if it improves the reception enough to make it worthwhile to install

  • Airport card recieves signal but won't connect to internet.

I have a PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4 (it came with an airport card) and in the next room over I'm using a PC with a D-link (Dl-524) 2.4GHZ router. The problem is that my laptop tells me it's connected to the group, and it says the signal is strong, but when I try to open Safari, Safari tells me I'm, "Not connected to the internet." Therefore, I think the problem lies not with the third party router, which is sending out the signal just fine, but with my laptop, or wireless card. Is there some setting I can change? This problem has existed for months, and I have to reset the router a couple of times a day.
This is what I do EVERY TIME:
*Reset the router - laptop still has the signal, now with the defalt groupname 'dlink'. Signal is still strong, but Safari tells me I'm not connected to the internet.
*Make a new group name for the router and click 'apply' (using the PC in the next room)- suddenly my laptop has internet.
It's bizarre. I don't understsand. Please help me.

Hello everyone. I'm wondering if there is any new information to be reported on this thread because I'm having the same problem as adrixray.
I have a MacBookPro that I'm trying to connect to my new Airport Extreme. I upgraded to the Extreme from an old Linksys wireless B router that has been running perfectly fine on my Comcast modem(s) for 3 years. I upgraded so that I could use the Extreme on my AppleTV but so far I've had no luck getting it to work.
I've tried power cycling about a dozen times, had Comcast reset the modem, even talked to Apple tech support for about an hour and a half on the phone-- no luck. Tech support tells me it might be an issue with Comcast but, as I say, I'm able to successfully connect directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and am able to connect wirelessly with my Linksys connected. I've tried to connect with multiple devices and all of them can connect to the wireless network successfully but can't connect to the internet even though the light on the Airport Extreme is green.
I've searched multiple forums and found that many, many people have experienced this same problem and so far I haven't seen any solutions posted. Could it be a defective batch of routers?
adrixray: I would love to hear if you were ever able to resolve your issue.
Many thanks to all for your advice/help.

  • HT4634 how to check if my airport card is installed? I can't find it in the network settings, so no WI-FI :-(

Since I bought this iMac more then 2 years ago, I wasn't really bothered that this feature (airport) didn't work in my iMac as I connected my iMac directly via Ethernet to the routher. The wireless router then connects to the other devices in my house. But I want to move my iMac to another room and need the airport-card to work. It was bought with it, but it has never been switched on. Any suggestions, where to check:
1.if the aiport-card has been installed when I bought it?
    2. if yes, how to switch it on? it doesnt pop-up on my screen when I use the '+' in the network settings? Only 'ethernet' and 'blue-tooth'.

Is there a way to see if the actual hardware with driver has been installed in the iMAC?
    it shows that tht following software versioin are installed for Wifi;
    Software Versions:
      CoreWLAN:          2.1.3 (213.1)
      CoreWLANKit:          1.0.3 (103.2)
      Menu Extra:          7.2 (720.1)
      configd plug-in:          7.4.1 (741.1)
      System Profiler:          7.0 (700.3)
      IO80211 Family:          4.2 (420.3)
      WiFi Diagnostics:          1.0.2 (102)
      AirPort Utility:          6.1 (610.31)
But I can't find any hardware in the list of 'system report' that refers to 'airport card'
Is there a way to find out if there is any of such a device built in the iMac at all?
the hardware overview shows: no devices installed  of the following:
    ATA
    Fiber Channel
    Hardware RAI
    PCI Cards
    Parallel SCSI
    SAS
    Thunderbolt drivers not loaded.
it's a iMac, OS 10.7.5, but started with 10.6 when I bought it, 4GB, ethernet, 27".Wifi never worked.
any other solutions that could work? thanks for your help so far Barry!
