My airport card is not picking up a wireless signal?

Hi there,
I just bought an original Apple Airport card for my PowerMac G4 (mirrored doors)(1.25ghz). I installed a brand new D-Link wireless router w/ rangebooster on a PC located in the basement. The airport card is recognized by my mac, but it doesn't see any networks, even when I manually enter the name of the network I created when I installed the router to the PC. I'm wondering if it's not picking up a signal because the PC is located 2 floors below the mac. D-Link customer service say that shouldn't be the problem at all (with the model I have), and that it may be a problem with the installation/configuration of the AirPort card.
Is there a driver/update I should install along with the airport (original) card?
If anyone has any tips/knowledge on this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.

As Forrest mentioned, you may just have a location problem. If so, a booster may be your answer.

Newer G5 PowerMacs don't require the external t-shaped aerial, earlier models do and that is probably the cause of the problem.

Macbook will not pick up any wireless signals

Hi I have a Black Macbook, It is set up with bootcamp OSX 10.5/XP sp2
When I'm in Windows I can pick up 5 or 6 different SSID's, but when I'm in OSX I cant pick up any.
The wifi is turned on,I have tried deleting the service and creating a new one, no luck with that.
I know the wireless card is working because when I doot into XP I can pick up and connect to multiple SSIS's.
The card is listed in the system profiler.
Anyone got any ideas?

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem. You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:

Note the Apple Hardware Test is not definitive.
Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites. They have parts and installation instructions. To install an Airport card is fairly easy.

HT4628 I did the security update on 4-2-13 and now my airport card will not turn on. OS 10.6.8 Intel imac 4,1 core duo. My macbook pro did not have this issue and wifi here is working on that. Is there a setting that was changed? Thank you!

Airport Card can not find the Airport Extreme Station

My problem is, that my PowerMac G5 with an Airport Card can not find the Airport Network from the Expreme Station. But I can see all other wlan-networks.
With me MacBook Pro I have no problems, I have an normal connection to the Station.

In AirPort Utility how is your AirPort Extreme configured in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, Radio Mode list? If it's set to 802.11n only the AirPort card in your G5 probably doesn't support that.

I acquired an airport express to extend my cable modems wireless signal, BUT having difficulty getting set up.

Having trouble getting set up. I'm trying to set up airport express to extend my existing wireless network, so i can get a better signal for my iPad at the other end of the house. I can get a green light on the airport device , but signal is still weak. How do I tell if apple express has been properly set up. Does the apple express need to be connect via ethernet to my cable modem (either for set up or to operate properly)?

If you are trying to "extend" using wireless only, Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature is a proprietary design that is designed to only work with other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the Express could be configured to "extend" a wireless signal from a 3rd party modem/router or gateway.
More likely, the Express has been set up to "join" the wireless network. It does not provide any additional wireless signal in this type of configuration, which is designed for use with AirPlay.
I can get a green light on the airport device , but signal is still weak. How do I tell if apple express has been properly set up.
If you have a Mac laptop handly, you can perform a quick check to see if the Express is actually "extending" the signal.
Locate the laptop near your main router. Hold down the option key on the Mac and click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look for the BSSID and jot down the least few numbers for identification. The BSSID is actually the AirPort ID of the device to which your Mac is connected at that time.
Now move the laptop close to the AirPort Express and perform the same check, If you see the same BSSID, this confirms that the laptop is still connecting to your main router's wireless signal...and the AirPort Express is not "extending" the wireless signal.
If the Express is "extending", you will of course see a different BSSID when you perform the check.
Post back on your results, so we will know how best to proceed if you want to configure the Express to provide more wireless coverage. It will help if you can provide the make and model number of your "modem", which is likely a combination modem/router or gateway type of device.

Yes, if you plan to connect the AirPort Extreme back to the Motorola modem/router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Extreme extend the Motorola signal wirelesssly.

Airport card does not work with Airport Extreme when security is turned on

I have an iMac running OSX 10.4.11 with an Airport card installed (firmware version 9.52).
I recently replaced my Netgear wireless router with an Apple Extreme Base station and now I am not able to connect my iMac to the wireless network when WEP security is turned on - I get an error from the Airport Setup Assistant when I attempt to connect to the wireless network.
It works fine if the wireless security on the Extreme Base station is turned off.

First, I highly recommend that you switch to either WPA or WPA2 as WEP is no longer considered secure. If you must use WEP, I suggest that you try the following:
o Re-create the Network Name (SSID) on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o Try using 128-bit WEP, with a 26-Hex character key for the encryption type.

AirPort Setup Assistant says my Airport Card is "not configured"

I'm trying to install an AirPort Express Base Station that I got for xmas.
I'm using a MacBook Pro 17" with OS X 10.5.1, and my goal with the AirPort Express is to plug it into a stereo to play iTunes wirelessly.
By the way I use AirPort on my MacBook every day, all the time, for internet access through another base station which is plugged into the internet.
Okay, so when I launch the AirPort Setup Assistant and hit the continue button it immediately tells me "AirPort card not configured. In order to use the AirPort Setup Assitant your AirPort card must be enabled and AirPort needs to be turned on and set to use DHCP. Click OK if you would like to change these settings, or Skip if you would like to configure AirPort Base Stations using ethernet."
After I click OK it tells me:
"AirPort card error. There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again."
Obviously my AirPort card is working fine, or I wouldn't be able to post on this forum!
When I open Network Preferences I see AirPort is connected to my home network. In the Advanced Settings, on the TCP/IP tab I see that "Configure IPv4" is set to "Using DHCP". And "Configure IPv6" is set to "Automatically" (Not that I have any idea what these two things mean!)
Maybe someone on this forum is much smarter than me with this stuff? Ack!

Apple, if you're listening, it would be nice if something in the install flow had checked with my OS or something to see if I still needed to install what was on the CD. All I did was open the package (which was purchased in December) and follow directions, and wound up with a problem not covered in the documentation.

Airport card is not recognized by G3 iMac

I recently acquired a G3 600 MHz iMac, running OS X 10.4.11, and I want to join the iMac to my wireless network. So I purchased an Airport card ( tested card on a ibook running 10.4.11 and it works fine.) and seated it in the G3 iMac. For some reason the iMac does not recognize it one bit. I checked profiler and System Preferences and no sign of an Airport Card. I then opened the iMac and reseated the card, I even changed out the adapter with another adapter I had. After researching online, some people suggested an archival OS restore. Although I would try that but unfortunately I do not have any of the original install disks. So my question is: does anyone know how I can make the os recognize the card?

There are two versions of the original AirPort card, and their identify can be determined using the information below.
The poster you replied to may be referring to this post quoted below, though even if he had the initially issued card, it would not explain why the card is not recognized. Though incapable of supporting advanced security, it would otherwise be recognized and operate as expected if seated properly, as you have described.
The original AirPort card was equivalent to a WaveLAN Silver card, and supported only 40-bit WEP or 64-bit encryption, and did not support WPA.
The original AirPort Base Station which shipped with these cards on board was limited to 10 clients, had only a 10BbaseT LAN port, and supported only 40-bit WEP. Later cards which looked physically identical, supported 104 bit WEP, or 128-bit encryption, as did the AirPort Base Stations which included them. This second card, also manufactured initially in the Netherlands for Apple by AT&T's Lucent unit—later know as ORiNOCO—was equivalent to the WaveLAN Gold card.
The 661-2219 part number is distinguished by the M7600LL/* marketing designator screened on the label, as well as engineering revision part number 825-4889 and worldwide procurement part number 630-2883. EEE code G3G is embedded right-most in the last four characters of each part's serial number. *This character is typically A, B or C.
The 661-2569, on the other hand, is distinguished by an M7600LL/D or later marketing designator, engineering revision part number 825-5620, the same worldwide procurement part number 630-2883 and typically the phrase '128 bits' along the lower center of the label. EEE codes LH8, M6Y or QAC are embedded right-most in the last four characters of each part's serial number.
While a procurement number generally changes when a service part number change is made, this product did not, as Lucent remained its sole supplier, the 'change' to the card involved different firmware and not a physical change to the product, and Apple personnel largely considered them equivalent, though they were and are not.
Graphite AirPort base station models initially used the M7600LL/A, B or C cards, and was itself designated the M7601LL/A and later, the M7601LL/B. Both base stations were also designated as 661-2265 whole unit service replacement parts. Every card we've ever seen in a Graphite base station was a 661-2219 and was marked as described above.
Apple did not adequately document many of these parts and there applications at the time they were still in use, and all have disappeared from their inventory—except in limited cases—as has much of what existed for documentation. Given their personnel changes over the years, it's quite likely that no one there now can recall the subtle differences or properly identify these products. Once there are designated vintage, then obsolete, they drop quickly off of the radar.
While any properly functioning iMac compatible AirPort card properly mounted in a 076-0804 adapter would show up in the System Profiler without the antenna connected, the performance of such a card would be poor to abysmal.
I believe that you are completely correct when you indicate that either the adapter is not seated properly, that it is not working properly, or that the logic board is defective. The latter two scenarios are quite unlikely, though possible.

My airport card does NOT fit!

I've been searching and searching for my answer in the forums, so my apologies if the answer is already out there...
Problem:
I have a PowerMac G4 (firewire 800 - Mirrored Driver Doors).
I just bought an Original Airport Card that had said IN THE DESCRIPTION that the card would fit my specific computer.
However, when I received it, I found it does not fit!
I've looked at the computer manual and have seen exactly where the airport card should slide into.
BUT seems that the bracket that the card should slip into, is too small. I've now done search after search for which card that I REALLY do need, but all results say that this "original airport card" IS the one that I need. One result did say that I needed an adapter. But I dont see how an adapter would help me if the bracket is too small even for the card.
I am baffled and extremely frustrated.
Can someone be CLEAR about exactly what I need?

If it has a FW800 port on the back, it will use Airport Extreme
If it does not have a FW800 port (i.e., FW400 only), it will use regular Airport. When the original Airport cards were made and speced, the FW800 MDD G4 models had not yet been produced.

Airport Card (Powerbook) not seeing network after Update

Using software update, I updated the Airport file. Somehow it seems to have knobbled my airport card and which now wont recognise my netgear dg834gt modem.
I've been trying to fix this for two days now. grrr.
Is this update for Base stations and Express units only? hmm.
Is it possible there may be a shift in the password access? Maybe I need to reconfigure the router? I am currently trying all possibilities.....
I'm on a Powerbook 1.25 @ 10.3.9 - and have reinstalled the essential system software, but I think this screwed things up even more. My main Admin name has also been changed to 'root' ?
The router seems to be fine, (connected via ethernet right now) but the airport just wont find the network and i'm sitting right next to it -- ??
All was fine before -- but now it sleeps. boo.
Am looking all over all help sites and forums but can find no answers yet -

Update;
Things are looking v. dodgy for PB. have archived and installed, but still a dead Airport. Can this all have been done by an airport update?! -- hmm. Maybe a full erase & install will help. Maybe its something stoopid I've not done in my Airport network prefs...?
Airport Pref. 1 is set to 'Automatic'
TCP/IP is set to 'DHCP'
Apple talk is 'off'
Proxies -- all are not ticked. (is this correct?) Passive FTP box is ticked.
Am reconfiguring Netgear as should be done - restarting, P.B., etc...
The more this goes on, the more i'm feeling somethings blown up in the ariport card. grrr.
