About 1 1/2 years ago, I had my macbook in for service to repair/replace the outter casing.  When I got it back, it no longer would pick up wireless signals like it used to.  I can plug in using the ethernet cord but wireless is spotty at best.  I never had issues using wireless, and now I have problems sitting 5 feet from the signal source.  .. and even then the signal goes in and out every minute or so.  It doesn't matter where I am or what signal source I use.  There is nothing wrong with the signal itself because I have other laptops that connect with NO Problems!  HELP!

  • My airport card is not picking up a wireless signal?

    Hi there,
I just bought an original Apple Airport card for my PowerMac G4 (mirrored doors)(1.25ghz). I installed a brand new D-Link wireless router w/ rangebooster on a PC located in the basement. The airport card is recognized by my mac, but it doesn't see any networks, even when I manually enter the name of the network I created when I installed the router to the PC. I'm wondering if it's not picking up a signal because the PC is located 2 floors below the mac. D-Link customer service say that shouldn't be the problem at all (with the model I have), and that it may be a problem with the installation/configuration of the AirPort card.
Is there a driver/update I should install along with the airport (original) card?
If anyone has any tips/knowledge on this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You!

  • Why is my Airport Express signal picked up by only one computer?

I have a 17" Powerbook G4 running 10.4.10 and have had no problems using my Airport Express device for the last few years. I have it set to WPA2 Personal. I also have a Macbook also running 10.4.10. Both have been on my network with no problems. In the last two weeks I have not been able to pick up a signal from my Airport Express on my Powerbook. My Powerbook is picking up all the other signals from my neighbors so I think my hardware is fine. I have since tried resetting my AE by pressing the reset button on the unit. I have tried reconfiguring the unit with Airport admin utility and Airport setup and nothing seems to work. My macbook is picking up the signal full strength. Both computers are only about 8 feet away from the AE. Anyone have suggestions as to what my problem may be?

  • HT1349 I have a Power PC G5 mac. It's Dual 1.8 GHz and has 1 GB DDR SD Ram. This mac has no wireless Airport Card. Where do I get one to install in the computer so that it is able to pick up wifi signal and how much is the cost?

I have an older Power PC G5 desktop mac. It has 1GB DDR and SD Ram and Dual 1.8 GHz. The problem is there is no wifi signal. I think I need an airport card to insert in order for this model to pick up wifi. How do I know which airport card to use?

Your Power Mac G5 had an option to have an 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme Card. You basically have two choices: 1) Search the Internet for vendors that still provide this card, or 2) Get a wireless USB adapter that supports both 802.11b/g, but also the newer 802.11n standard. An example of this USB adapter can be found here.

  • Power Book doesn't receive airport nor ethernet signal

OK, so I recently did an erase and install on my powerbook g4 from the original start-up disk. Then, I immediately updated to OSX 10.4.3 from my Tiger DVD. Now, my laptop won't pick up a signal from the airport. Internet Connect status says "not associated with any network, Status not available". Airport Admin Utility picks up nothing. Network Preferences says "airport is turned on but is not connected to a network" Network Setup Assistant detects nothing. I tried plugging the ethernet in directly, the pc link light goes off, and nothing. All this and my wife's macbook's connection is just fine through airport and ethernet. I must be missing something. Any suggetions?

Just a thought, if you are trying to use Tiger from your wifes Macbook and not a Full retail Version of Tiger thats your problem. Apple software that ships with there computers is machine specific. and will not interchange.
Be sure you go to system prefernces and then network and make sure you have the correct method you are using, choosen for your connection, and it has the little green dot, and drag it to the top of the list.
If it is a full retail version go to your apple and then choose Software Update and download them.
    Cheers Don

  • Airport card not picking up any signals after IP configuration changed

Just had cable internet installed in my apartment, and in the course of setting up the IP configuration for the built-in ethernet connection, my airport card has stopped recognizing wireless networks in my building. Before I changed these settings, the card was working, and there are several networks in the building that it recognized. Now, it recognizes none. The menu appears in the top bar, and I can turn the airport on and off, but it simply is not picking up any signals whatsoever.
I have tried a handful of tactics, including changing the Airport TCP/IP configuration in several different ways, rebooting several times, and even removing and reinserting the Airport card.
For info: I'm using an iBook G3 with OS 10.2.8. (I know, pretty old, but it's still chugging along...)
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure. What's strange is that the very same computer was picking up signals (not accessing them b/c they were all password protected), recognizing networks in the area at least, before I played with the other IP configuration settings. Now it picks up none. It shows that there are none in the area, even though I know that there are.
Also, often, when I click on the Airport icon in the menu bar, the computer hangs for up to a minute before the menu actually pops up.
I have an Airport Express unit that I have hooked up to the cable modem, and my Airport card won't even recognize that signal. I'm just not sure what I changed that made it go haywire. I've been using this computer on wireless networks for the entire time I've owned it. Never had this problem before yesterday.
Thanks for any additional suggestions anyone can offer.

  • Mac Book Pro 17" 2006 version won't pick wireless signal with Airport update 7.5.2 and later.

My 2006 old 17" Mac Book pro is won't connect to Airport Extreme older version with update 7.5.2 and also with 7.6.2.  In fact if I implement that update airport extreme will transmit over channel 100 which my Mac pro is unable to pick.  Any advise ?
    Thanks.

Thanks "a brody" !   Now I know I am talking to someone who knows the problem;  I have checked with the site you advised me and I can tell you that my 17"MacBokk Pro (I am sorry for the mistake on first message) is one of them;  in fact  I have purchased that Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler.  However I forgot to tell you that my Airport Extreme base is transmitting at 5Ghz with the n protocol and my MacBook Pro has been working very well utill I tryed to update the Airport base to that 7.5.2 version: at that point my MacBook has never been able to pick the signal any more unless going backward to 7.4.2.   In doing some experiments, I have found that with version  7.4.2,  my Mac was picking the 5Ghz signal at channel # 44, instead, with the update 7.5.2 and later, the base started to transmit to channel # 100 and it looks like my MacBook is unable to go over the 44 channel ! (one more thing: my Mac has Leopard 10.5.8 OS).  I have tryed to change the channel in the Airport base back to # 44, but my model (my Airport Extreme base is not the last model) do not allow to change the channel selection to "manual": there is only one selection  "automatic".  This is why I tryed to see if my Airport Extreme card (Wireless card firmware version 1.4.16.2) was not fit to received and transmit data on channels over 44.
If you have any idea that will be greatly appreciated;  any how thank you very much for your time and help.

  • Wifi signal from Airport Extreme doesn't reach all areas of my house.  Is there a way to extend it without sacrificing bandwidth?  Airport Extreme version 7.6.1

The wifi signal from my Airport Extreme doesn't reach all areas of my house.  Is there a way to extend it without sacrificing bandwidth?  I have an Airport Extreme running version 7.6.1.

You will need to add another device like an AirPort Extreme to provide additional wireless coverage in the house.
The only way to preserve bandwidth on a network would be to connect the two AirPort Extremes using an Ethernet cable connection.
While you can "extend" using wireless only, typically half of the bandwidth on the network is sacrificed when you do this.

  • Mac Book wont pick up the Airport signal unless near the iMac

    Hey
Since the latest update (?) my MacBook has been blanking on my airport on start up. It's been using the same network for years. It only picks up with a cold reboot if sitting in front of the iMac. Then it's happy as Larry - full bars, anywhere I take it around the apartment.
Have cleared the Keychain and reloaded network from Preferences. Tried scanning but that stops prematurely after picking up a network signal 15 stories up - 25% strength on AirRadar - my own airport is 50-60% on AirRadar. Airport is on Ch 13, neighbours are on 1 and 6.
It's just blanking it like an ex after a bad break-up.
    Urgh.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Why doesn't airport always send or receive with good signal strength

Why doesn't my MacBook Pro AirPort always send and receive when it indicated an excellent strength signal?  When it doesn't work I have to turn AirPort off and then back on.

We use one windows machine and two mbp's (post 2012) at home. We have a modem *** router from a  non apple vendor that airport utility finds and connects with absolute ease. But doesn't stay connected. The signal drops often, what can I do?

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

  • Airport Shows Signal but doesn't work.

My airport seems to be working completely fine. All the bars are up, signal looks ok. I try to get on a site. Nothing. As if there was no connection. I also checked my iStat Pro and It's only getting 0-1/kbs up and down. No more. What's up with this?
Yet my Ethernet completely works. I just switched companies and it does the same.
I know it's a very vague question, but this seems like I set something up wrong. No clue!

go to system preferences, network, click airport, advanced, tcp
configure ipv4 should be set to "using dhcp"
    click DNS across the top
    this should be all blank
    click proxies.
bypass proxy settings for hosts and domains should be set to:
    *.local, 169.254/16
"use passive mode" should be checked
    everything else should be blank
I hope this helps, if that does not work, I want you to use the network diagnostics tool to ping both
66.117.136.6, and yahoo.com, then paste the result here.

  • Airport in macbook pro doesn't auto-find signals quickly and also drops sig

So recently, my macbook pro, which I use on campus, has been acting up when it comes to the airport. If I close the screen and open it up when I want to use the laptop, the airport won't find WIFI signals even though the computer itself has not moved. I have to use the "assist me" in network preferences or turn off the airport and turn it back on before it will find a signal. And then, if that's not enough of a hassle, it will randomly cut off from the WIFI signals I have and I have to go back and reconnect manually. If anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it. The macbook pro is only a year and a half old, it should not be acting up for the price I paid for this thing and the hype everyone gives them.

System Preferences>Network>Show:Airport>Airport. Select 'By default select preferred networks'. Put the network name in the box and click Apply.

  • Airport doesn't pick up my network

I am a college student, and our school has a public wireless network called HOYAS. Everytime I want to use it, it doesn't come up on the airport pulldown menu from the menu bar. Each time, I have to manually go to "Other..." and type in HOYAS. It wouldn't be such an annoyance except for the fact that everytime my computer goes to sleep and airport turns off I have to manually type in the network because it is what you use in viritually every building. Is there anyway to change a setting so that my computer recognizes the network?

    Try the following...
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.

  • My mac doesn't pick up the signal strong and everybod elses PC does

I go to a school that has a wireless network on campus. My airport connection works fine when I am in a room with a signal router, but when I go to a room without a direct router my mac only pics up one bar! The frustrating thing is that all the PC laptops get the signal just fine.
What's going on? what should I do....
