My Airport Express keep losin the connection to my Itunes!

Hey
I just bought a Airport Express and hooked it up to my wireless network and using it primarily for Itunes. The problem is that it stalls and loses its connection. Any thoughs on how to fix this? Is the Airport broke?! Can I "change the channel"?
Thanks!
Mikkel

Can I "change the channel"?
Of course. You would change the channel on the wireless router creating the wireless network. The AX will automatically detect the channel that the wireless network is using.

  • HT1515 Can I use two Airport Express, one being the connection to my Internet Provider and the second one, being an extension to my wifi?

I would like to know if with them I could use one Airport Express as the connection point to my ISP and the second one, just to extend the wifi range. Anyone knows about this ?

    Yes you can.
But, remember that the AirPort Express is a router only. It does not have a modem on board, so you will need a modem to connect to your ISP.
Then, connect one Express to the modem and configure it to "create" a wireless network".
Configure the second Express to "extend" a wireless network.

  • Airport Extreme keeps dropping the connection

    Hi,
    I have this model:
    http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/
It is connected to the main router which is for TalkTalk, router is just a standard Broadband Wireless N ADSl2+ Router.
My settings in my AE are:
    Internet
    Connect Using: DHCP
    IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address: 192.168.1.1
    (nothing else is filled in)
    Internet Options
    Configure IPv6: Link-local only
    Wireless
Network Mode: Create a wireless network
    Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
    Wireless Options
    5ghz network name - ticked
    Radio Mode: 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g
    2.4ghz Channel: 1
    5ghz Channel: 40
    Network
    Router Mode: Off (Bridge Mode)
Is there anything else I can do? Can I give you some more information?

Overall the settings look good, except for the 2.4 GHz wireless channel in use.
When you say that the connection is being dropped, is this a wired connection to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme......or.......are you talking about wireless connections to the AirPort Extreme?
If wireless, have you connected a laptop or desktop directly to one of the LAN ports on the AirPort as a test to see if drops occur with that type of connection?
    Regarding wireless channels......
Channel 1 is the most crowded channel in the world, since most routers default to that setting. If you have other wireless networks around you, they are likely interfering with your wireless network, causing disruptions.
Try a higher setting like Channel 11, or 13 if it is available in your area.  Then work down a channel at a time to see if you can find a good one to use.

  • Why do I keep seeing the connect iPod to iTunes after a simple software update?

I was prompted to upgrade to iOS 6 today, and so I did. About 30 minutes later, iTunes flashes an alert that says: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." It says if I restore it, it'll be reset to factory defaults, but that I have the option to restore contacts and texts later. Will all my apps such as Facebook, Spotify, TextMe, and Twitter still be intact? I also don't understand why my iPod screen will not change or move...it's stuck on the picture of the iTunes logo with an arrow with a cord beneath it. Any help is appreciated!
    I also attempted this, with 0 result: http://geekindisguise.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/how-to-put-ipod-touch-iphone-into -dfu-mode/

    Maybe this:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
If the Apps are in your iTunes library restoring from backup will also restore those apps. Synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup. You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Airport express keeps loosing connection to Time Capsule

For several years I have had no issue with mt Airport Express staying connected to my Time Capsule/router. Now 2 of my Airport Expresses keep loosing the connection and flashing yellow. I have done the resets where I press in the little button on the bottom while plugging the AE back into the power source and reconnecting through Airport Utility and that will do the trick but after a short time the flashing yellow lights will go back on.
Would it help to turn off the router, rest all the AEs? It is so frustrating to keep loosing the connection and nothing else has changed; e.g. the AEs are all in the same place.

Same thing here! I didnt have the problem with airport express until I update the os from 10.6.2 to 10.6.6. I have been calling the apple support and they couldnt help (or thou sounded like they knew for that particular problem). I got from my work MacBookPro and same thing happen. I hope that apple will read this and just want to tell them that this is my 10 computer made by apple and God knows the last one! First of all they made the the fireware with the bad chipsets so I have to but extra cards and then airport. I cant connect at all to any wifi and have to put the cables on the floor from the wifi router to the ethernet input which is more than 10 metres. Apple sort this asap!!!!!!!!!!

  • HT4437 My airport express worked over the past year since it was purchased. Recently it keeps dropping off my iPhone 4, my brand new 5s and my iPad. It does NOT drop off my windows based laptop.  It does not lose wifi connection. Help?

Can anyone help with this?  It is not wifi dropping the airport express. Wifi is connected. Music plays for 5 minutes or so and then goes silent.  It is as if the Apple iPhone and iPad is no longer recognizing the airport express. I need to open up the menu and. Lick on the airport express on iPhone and iPad to get it going again. Then it will drop over and over every 5 minutes or so. No problem with Apple TV. Also no problem with my windows laptop as all work s fine with no drops.  Crazy.

What does any of this have to do with the Apple TV?

  • Does an Airport Express require a wired connection to boost a Wi-Fi signal if I already have a wired Airport Time Capsule on the Network?

I want to boost the Wi-Fi signal around my house. I have a 3TB Airport Time Capsule connected to my Virgin Media modem via a WLAN connection but wonder if an Airport Express device can be used at a remote location purely wirelessly - apart from a power connection obviously?

Does AirPort Express require a wired connection.......if I already have a wired AirPort Time Capsule on the Network?
No, but you will have much better network performance if you do wire the AirPort Express.
The reason for this is that when you try to extend a network using wireless, you will typically lose about a half of the potential speed capability on the network.
There is no network speed loss when you wire the Express.
Here is what Apple's support document says about this:
In the case of a wirelessly extended network, throughput may be reduced to less than 60 percent of that of a single device. The general rule is to keep the Wi-Fi network as simple as possible. You can accomplish this by using the minimum number of Wi-Fi base stations required to service the physical network area and by using Ethernet wherever possible.
Extending the range of your Wi-Fi network by connecting Wi-Fi base stations together using Ethernet is always the best option, and will provide the best throughput

  • Airport Express stole my PC connection from the Extreme

(I posted this in the Airport Extreme (802.11n) forum, with no replies, so I will see if I get any luck with it in here).
I recently got the new Airport Express with 802.11n, and have just got it all up and running. My setup is as follows:
Modem is wired to the Airport Extreme.
Airport Extreme is wired to one PC (running Vista).
Airport Extreme is in a WDS network connecting to an Airport Express wirelessly.
Airport Extreme SHOULD be connecting wireless to my Macbook, another PC (running Vista), and a laptop (running Vista).
Airport Express is solely for connecting an Xbox 360 to the ethernet port (for the time being).
What it looks like in the Airport Utility however is that the Airport Express is claiming the wireless clients (as they appear in the wireless clients list, whereas they don't appear in the same list on the Airport Extreme anymore). So what this seems to be doing to my network is letting all the wireless devices (minus the Airport Express which is the only wireless client listed on the Airport Extreme) connect to the Airport Express, thus creating a dual wireless network, which in turn slows my connection to the internet significantly.
All items on the network are set up with DHCP, coz quite frankly, setting up static IP's scares me, haha.
What I would like to do is get the Airport Extreme to pick up all the wireless devices, and the Airport Express to only act as a hub to plug my 360 into.
    Appreciate the impending help!
PS. I should also mention that the Express is set up as a Remote, not a Relay... and yet, that's what it's behaving like.
PPS. For what its worth, I had all my computers turned off, unplugged the Airport Express and Extreme. Turned on ONLY the Extreme, then all of the computers, and it wouldnt even pick up the network from the Extreme where previously (pre-Express) it was fine. As soon as I plugged the Express back in, bam, the computers can connect to the network again... but still through the Express!

Alright, I have solved the problem. So stupid, but I'll let people here know in the event they have the same issue.
On the Airport Express under the WDS tab, there is a tick box that's for "Allow wireless clients" which had to be unticked.... I'm guessing I was too tired last night to make logic of that, like I was thinking that it needed to be ticked in order for the Express to communicate with the Extreme. Apparently not.

  • If an airport Extreme is combined with one or more airport expresses, what is the max number of connections? Is it just 50, or 50 plus 10 for each Express?

I would like to set up a wireless network with an Airport Extreme, plus one or more Airport Expresses to extend the range. I know an Extreme supports 50 users and an Express 10 users, but when they're combined does the number of users go up according to the number of Expresses combined with the Extreme, or is it limited at 50 no-matter how many Expresses are added?
    Thanks
    Steve

50 users + 10 users + 10 users + etc. I am assuming that each Express device will be connected using a wired Ethernet connection.
But, unless you have a truly fantastic Internet connection with your ISP, things are going to be mighty slow on the network since all users split up the available bandwidth.
So, if you have a 50 Mbps Internet connection, 50 users will have approximately 1 Mbps of bandwidth to work with. Few of us would consider having a 1 Mbps service in our home, even if we only had one computer....way too slow.

    Wirelessly
Just select the option to make your AirPort Express join an existing network in the setup process

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

Close all Apps and see if Activity Monitor shows any processes runnung.
Not that I think this is the cure but have you tried these resets:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
