My airport keeps dropping, any suggestions?

We had the AirBook hinge replaced.  Since it was returned, it will not stay connected to the internet for more than 5 minutes at a time.  Any ideas?

Have you tried the following:
- Reset the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First from backup and if the problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Airport keeps dropping the wireless connection to my network 2 or 3 times a day.

    Hi,
Since apple's recent firmware update for my macbook pro, airport keeps dropping the wireless connection to my network 2 or 3 times a day. It then searches for a network but can't find it, but if I select my network manually it connects immediately ???
Any fixes for this ..... in layman's language please!
    Thanks,
    Steve

It is not the router. There are a number of factors that are involved. If the router is a G/N router you may have to switch to G-Only (or disable N). You may also have a 5 GHz wireless phone or other routers in the neighborhood interfereing with the signal.
    Try this:
    1. Open network preferences. Take note of what IP address is assigned. Then, click Advanced.
    2. Click on TCP/IP and select Using DHCP with manual address and type the IP address below that.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Set your Router to Wireless-G only (or disable N) and change the channel to 11 or some higher number.
This should keep it from dropping the wireless connection. It is a bug in the OS. Apple has not fixed it in 3 years.
You wireless connection will be a tad slower, but you really won't notice.
    Hope that helps.

Airport keeps dropping my prefered network

My new Macbook Pro drops off my home & work networks with alarming regularity. It is seriously irritating. But at least I'm not alone - see here for others in the same predicament.

About time Apple acknowledged this problem and fixed it I'd say.

  • My airport keeps dropping its connection to comcast

Have purchased a new airport extreme.  It has a green light for about 30 seconds and then switches to blinking orange then back to green.  Had a regular airport that worked fine.  No peripherals can connect.

I have the same problem with my apple tv and itunes. Home sharing is on but it keeps dropping out every couple of minutes - really annoying! I noticed tonight that it drops out when i select the shows and music in my library on the TV with the remote that comes with apple tv, but when i play tv shows or my music by selecting clicking play from itunes on my laptop it works. There's definitely a bug but try this work around and see if you have any luck.

  • Ping test keep dropping any advice

i run ping test (from a cable connection) and it keep dropping, i sent 100 ping test to www.google.com -n 100 i get 3% loss which make my game play very unstable and unplayable.
i've try all sort of things unplug tv box disconnect all laptop disable wireless and test and still dropping.
also called Bt many time and done.
many times, speed test, line test, noise test replaced my Home hub twice and i still having same problem.
it was fine anytime other than from 8pm - 12pm
this very frastrate me because if is work fine on other time that mean there are no problem with my equipment and my
setup i dont have anything install or turn on practically on that time of night.
i suspect someone is running a or business on our block make big amount of traffic causes my unstable connection.
    any advices ?
    thanks,

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router unless HH4 may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Win 7 desktop on ethernet port of Airport keeps dropping internet.

While it may sound similar to many others, this exact question hasn't been asked before, or 2 weeks of sleuthing hasn't found it.
Thinking I was doing him a favor, I convinced my boss to upgrade his old Linksys wireless router with a new Airport Extreme base station.
I have a Dell UnInspiring 850 running Windows 7 that is connected to the ethernet port of the Airport Extreme base station (the desktop doesn't have a WiFi card)
The WAN port of the Airport Extreme base station is connected to the DSL modem (which only has one in and one out port, so I cannot connect the desktop directly to it)
The Dell desktop keeps losing its internet connectivity (even though Network and Sharing says that it is connected and not one Windows 7 troubleshooter seems capable of troubleshooting anything), when left idle for more than an hour. For a while, refreshing the browser fixed it, but doesn't anymore. It now requires unplugging the Airport and the DSL Modem, which is justifiably trying my boss's patience. The 3 Mac laptops, the 1 Mac desktop, and the 1 Windows XP laptop are all perfectly happy and don't drop their internet connections, so it's not a problem with the Airport, it's a problem with Windows 7.
I have upgraded the BIOS on the Dell Desktop
I have upgraded the BIOS of the NIC card of the Dell Desktop
I have changed the Networking Group from "Home" (which I found out REALLY means a pure Windows 7 network, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the physical location of whether this PC is in a house or an office building), to "Work" (which I found out REALLY means a network of mixed operating systems).
I have done the command line ipconfig /all stuff.
I've called the ISP, who says there aren't any special settings necessary.
I've tried changing the Airport Extreme from its recommended Bridge Mode (which works for everyone), to all manner of other configurations, none of which work.
I've pulled half of my hair out.
My boss now wants to send back the Airport Extreme and buy a new Linksys. I can't say that I blame him, even though it's not the Airport's fault. Any ideas on how to fix this? I am now going to try and downgrade the firmware of the Airport in order to dumb it down for Windows 7 and am even going to resort to going into the registry (which is yet another suggestion by yet another frustrated user, since every user is valiantly attempting to solve this widespread problem). Simply buying him a Mac Mini would make this so much easier of course.
If someone who works at Microsoft sees this post, could you please get this problem patched and fixed once and for all instead of continuing to ignore it? This is why you're losing market share and customers...to Apple.
Thanks and apologies for the tone, but can you blame me?
    Christopher

I finally have time to read this forum to see if I can find a solution to what appears to be the same problem BrooklynBlueEyes has. In my case, I brought home an extra PC we had from work for my wife to use (to keep her off my mac). It had been upgraded to Windows 7. I just had bought an Airport Extreme, which works wireless and also through the wires we have running to all of the rooms. I have tried to get the PC to work (wired) through the Airport Extreme, but nothing I tried seems to work. I called the IPS (Comcast), which said it was an Apple problem. short of uninstalling Windows 7, is there anything I can do? I am not very techno-literate, so if you could keep any explanation on the simple side, it sure would help.
    Thanks.

  • Airport keeps dropping xbox connection!

HI all, My son has an xbox 360 hooked up wireless to my airport extreme. We have security set to wpa/wpa2 personal. He gets in a xbox live no problem, then after a few minutes or so the xbox drops the connection. We also have other Mac's, a Wii, and a Playstation3 all hooked up with no problem. The funny thing is this just started about 2 weeks ago. We have done everything to try and resolve it including replacing his xbox with a new one under warranty. We even tried a direct wired hook up to the airport with no success. Does anyone have any idea's? I'm about to pull my hair out!

I did wire the xbox directly up to the modem, and that works, unfortunately I can't leave it like that because there is only one port on the modem. This proves that the issue is with airport and nothing else.

  • My Airport keeps dropping signals!!

I am losing my mind!!! We have an airport extreme base station connected to our Vonage router from the DSL modem. It was all working just fine and then one day it just started to drop the signal throughout the day. It does in and out but still shows that I have full signal in the airport bars in my top menu. I tried the internet without the airport and just plugged directly in from the DSL and it worked perfectly. I also tried it with the airport out from the DSL and leaving the vonage router out of the equation and it dropped signals . this tells me that it is the airport.
In the house we also have two other airport extremes. they both extend the range of our network and one of them is used to connect to the stereo for itunes.
My system all worked fine before the system update and now it doesn't. I am at a total loss and am exhausted from trying to deal with this anymore. is there a soloution floating around in here that i am simply too frazzled to see?

I don't know if this is the solution or not, but I noticed after the 10.4.5 update, I could only see access points on channel 6.
My own access point was on channel 1 and I couldn't see it or connect to it, even with the SSID being fully broadcast. I changed the access point (Linksys WAP54G) to channel 6 and I'm connected for over 2 days with a rock solid connection.
I still do not see any access points in my neighborhood, including my second access point which is on channel 14 (Linksys WRT54G).
Let me know if this works for you.
    Regards,
    Sparkus

  • Airport keeping dropping out!

Airport says it is connected to my wirelsss internet connection, but it is not. Starts up ok and then drops in about 5mins. Only way to continue browsing is to turn of wirelsss and then back on. Then the cycle repeats itself. Any ideas welcome?

I do not know if this answer will help much, but it is based on solid experience.
I tried using wi-fi and it kept dropping out.  I went through 3 routers!  A local salesperson told me enough with the new routers, it's your d*mn ISP.
Well, I started using speedtest.net to monitor my ISP's performance/signal strength.  I discovered that my signal FREQUENTLY dropped to very low levels.
My theory is that whenever the signal dropped, which was very, very often, I lost wi-fi connectivity.
I went to ethernet and never looked back, but with all these wireless devices, I'm wondering if I need to take a look at wifi again.  My ISP has cleaned up its act, so I might do better.
Unfortunately, I haven't tried it yet, so I can't announce the results.  But I thought it might possibly relate to your situation.

  • My iphone4 keeps freezing, any suggestions/help?

I have had and enjoyed my iphone 4 for a few months and untill the last few weeks it has been working great. A couple weeks ago it started randomly freezing in my camera app. it wouldn't allow me to take a pic or acces my alblum. To make matters more fustrating as of this morning it is freezing completely. I went to my alblum and when it froze I went to return to my home screen and it wouldn't go, so I restarted my phone and it took almost a half hour of freezing before it restarted. and once it did I couldnt text, call or acces my app's. So I reset my phone to factory network settings (the option to reset without losing app's) and now it is kind of working, but i'm worried at any time its going to freeze again. This is my only source of contacting my kids school and daycare when i'm out working, so any help would be appreciated...thanks

Follow the article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to set up your phone "as new iphone". Make sure that you preserve your latest backup by copying the folder to a safe place.
The folder where your backup data is stored changes depending on the computer's operating system. Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device, you should ensure the backup folder is included in your periodic data backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7).

  • Anyone know why airport keeps dropping when in clamshell mode?

I been using my MacBook Pro for about 3 weeks now and have no issues whats so ever, but then I bought a mini display to DVI adapter and connected my MBP to a 19 inch monitor, which works great, however when I am using airport the connection consistently drops and idea why?

Usually it's interference on the 2.4Ghz band.   Here's a quote from the support article and a link to that article.
Certain external monitors and LCD displays: Certain displays may emit harmonic interference, especially in the 2.4GHz band between channels 11 and 14. This interference may be at its worst if you have a portable computer with the lid closed and an external monitor connected to it. Try changing your access point to use 5 Ghz or a lower 2.4 GHz channel.

  • Airport keeps dropping out

Been having an annoying problem lately.  When I log on, I connect ok, but then mid session I get the white screen of death "not connected to the internet"  I have updated the airport driver to no avail.. THe only way to reconnect is to turn off airport and then restart it.  I also try renew dhcp lease which doesn't really fix it
    any recommendations?
    thanks

Try establishing a new location using the exact same details, but give it a different name and hit Apply. I think I may have done this in the past for what I think was a similar problem. Make sure IPv6 is turned off.
Also might be interference: try switching channels to a less populated one. Does this happen at any particular time of day, or is it random? Can be a dirty microwave oven or cordless phone blasting out across the entire spectrum
I occasionally have to turn Airport off and then back on again after wake from sleep when it doesn't snag the signal the first time. But this doesn't happen in the middle of a wake.
Option click on the Airport icon. What's the Transmit Rate and RSSI?

  • Airport keeps dropping

    Hello there,
I'm having quite few issues with my Airport since upgraded to Leopard,
It drops down constantly for no reason,
and i was wondering whether anyone's actually having this annoying issue as well.
    Thanks.

Yes I have experienced the same thing as well every 2 min or so, the wireless would drop out, and reconnect back. I tried changing a few settings like switch off scanning other networks, and disabling IP V6, but no luck. When I boot into my back up of Tiger the wireless works perfectly no glitches.

  • Airport keeps dropping Back to My Mac

Internet still works, but can no longer connect back to my mac remotely.
Checking my airport using the Airport Utility. Not only is the Back to My Mac status not green, but the little circle is missing all together. Signing back in puts it back to green, but goes off again soon after.

    Shouldn't be any Mac required.
