My airport utility does not find my airport express device

My airport utility does not find my airport express device

In order for the AirPort Utility on your iOS device to find the Express, both need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. By default, the Express will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Can you iOS device find this network?

The airport utility does not find my Airport Extreme. I tried to reset the base, but I can`t make it. What can i do?

Please perform a Factory Default Reset exactly as follows:
Pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme (AEBS)
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first and continue to hold it in for at least 7-8 more seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AEBS
Release the reset button after the 7-8 second hold period
Allow 30-45 seconds for the AEBS to restart
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS
Open AirPort Utility to see if can now see the AEBS

  • Airport utility does not find any airport and time capsule hardware

Hi, I have 4 airport expresses (2 for music and one for extending network) and a time capsule that also acts as my wifi router. The expresses have always appeared and disappeared from the express utility, while the TC is always listed. Now airport utility cannot find find any of them, and after many rescans, and a few "successful" hard reboots (in the sense that they were configured, but then disappeared again), still does not see them. The strange thing is that the TC has to be working because this computer is hooked up to the internet via the wifi router, and it is working fine. Any ideas? The expresses are not that big of a deal, as I can always plug an ipod to play music, but they used to work. I am on 5.4.2 on the utility, having rolled it back a few months ago when some of these problems begain. thanks

    Welcome to the discussions!
It sounds like you are trying to scan for and configure your Apple devices using wireless. If you haven't tried this yet, I think you will have much better luck if you connect an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the device that you are trying to "see".
If this does not work at first, it may help to power down both your computer and the device, then connect the ethernet cable and power the computer and device back up.

Airport utility can not find my airport express...
I was trying to connect a PC  (Windows XP) laptop to my wireless network via the airport express.
I have a Mac with an airport that I use to get internet in my other room.  I am trying to get internet on the laptop too.
I somehow manage to erase my network & now my airport utilities won't even scan/recognize my airport??
ANY help would be appreciated, mac helpline wanted $59 to help & I live in a small northern community where they do not have anyone that will address a Mac issue!!
    Thanks for your time.

Thank you SO MUCH Tesserax for taking the time to help!
I powered everything down, slowly powered everything else up from the modem to the airport then the computer.  I then reset the airport & rescaned it through utilities.  I set up a new network & voila!  wireless up & running again.
I am going to try to connect the laptop to the network now.....well, mabey tomorrow night, I've had enough for 1 evening!
I will update....or possibly be begging for more help...we'll see!
    Thanks again for your time!

  • Windows 7 airport utility does not recognize my airport extreme

My iphone connects to my airport extreme and the airport utility sees it. So does my ipad and my friends laptop.
When I use wifi or wired connection (to lan port) from Windows 7 laptop to my airport extreme. The airport utility does not "see the extreme.
    I've uninstalled/reinstalled the following:
    - bonjour
    - airport utility
    - itunes.
I've wasted 3 hours on this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.....

    UPDATE
    * I located the IP address and admin password of the airport extreme and was able to log into to the (File / configure other) airport extreme.
    I believe it's a W7 bonjour issue.
As you can see in my attachments, Bonjour is installed however msconfig running services show it as stopped. I can't get it to start.
** How can I force bonjour to start? **
Here are my replies to your recommended steps:
What version extreme are you talking about? Actual model A1xxx from the base is a big help.
    - I forgot to check this
Step 1.. Ping.. Ping is your most important tool to find things on a network.
Open a command window and type ping 10.0.1.1 (or whatever is the current IP of the extreme).
    - Yes, I can ping it.
    Please turn off all firewalls.
    - Yes, firewall is off
Make sure the win7 is not in homegroup.
    - done.
Make sure win7 is set to home.. not work or public for location of the network.
    - done.
Step 2. .. This assumes you now have ping response.
In whatever airport utility you like, reset the extreme to use all SMB names.
    - WHERE do I make these changes?

  • This version of airport utility does not support my airport express

I have just bought a new MAc and am trying to add my old airport express base station on to my exisiitng wireless network so that I can use it to stream music. I had set it up ages ago with my PC but didn't really use it.
I can get the aiport utility to see it but it tells me that this version does not support my airport express.  Help!

Unfortunately, Apple has dropped support for the older AirPort routers in their newer operating systems.
You can still configure and administer the older AirPort Express, but you will need to have (or borrow) a Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC.

  • AirPort Utility unable to find any Apple Express devices.

Help! This is getting desperate. I bought an AEX for streaming music to my hifi. Installed it yesterday and it worked on both my desktop (running Vista) and my laptop (running XP). However I was experiencing sound dropouts on the Vista machine so, having researched on this forum, I tried to change a couple of settings in my wireless router (D Link DI524) to try and cure the problem.
My wireless network is still working fine but since making the changes the AirPort Utility software just keeps telling me that it is unable to find any Apple Express devices and I cannot make a connection. It is the same on both my desktop and my laptop.
I can't see why changing security settings in the router should prevent the Utility from connecting with the device as it has to do this during set up anyway to be incorporated into the network. I have tried a full re-set to factory settings but that didn't work. Any ideas? Otherwise this thing is going back to the store.

It's ok. It seems to have cured itself. And downloading Vista Anti Lag has cured the sound drop outs too.

  • Airport Setup Utility does not find Airport Express

I have an airport extreme connect to my iMac and today installed an airport express in another room so I can use a printer and speakers for piping iTunes to the other room.
I connected my printer to the Airport Express and plugged the airport express into the socket to power it up. After initially showing a green light, then solid yellow, the airport express showed a blinking yellow light. The airport express is only located 10 feet from my airport extreme base station.
The Airport Setup Utility does not find an extpress in the area and I have even done a hard restart on the express to see if this fixes the problem.
Am I missing anything with the configuration of the airport express? Thanks for your help.

Ahh, I have the same problem... my airport keeps stopping and starting. I then tried using the setup utility with with express and it cannot find it. I tried rescanning, but nothing.

  • Airport utility does not support base station? Help!

I cannot get base station light to turn green. Blinking amber. I upgraded to a new Verizon modem and since then the base station does not work. What can I do?

Make sure the new Verizon Modem is not also a WiFi Router, if it is then that may be your issue.  If it is indeed just a Modem then your Ethernet Connection should work and your base station should be working.  You said "Airport Utility does not support base station".  Don't know what you meant by that.  Do you have an Airport Extreme, Airport Express or a Airport TC as a Base Station?  If yes, you should be able to set up your Network via Airport Utility.  If the Verizon Modem is only a Modem then unplug the power from your Airport Base Station, then unplug the Power from your Verizon Modem for at least 1-minute.  Plug the Modem back in and give it a moment or so, then make sure you do have an Ethernet cable going from your Verizon provided Modem to your WAN port on your Airport Base Station.  Now power up your Airport Base Station and go to your Airport Utility.  Find the Base Station and click on Edit...  Make sure your Network Name is correct, your Password is Correct, your Security method is correct (example:  WPA2 Personal).  If all correct see if your blinking Amber light is now Solid Green.

  • HT1998 My iPAD can use the internet through my airport extreme, but the airport utility does not see it so I can't create a guest password.  What am I doing wrong?

My iPAD can use the internet through my Airport Extreme, but the Airport Utility does not see the device so I can't set a guest password.

If your Mac is using the Lion operating system with recent updates, it will be necessary to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Select the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Click the Wireless Network Options button
Remove the check mark next to Create a closed network
Click Done, then click Update to save the new settings and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • Airport Card can not find the Airport Extreme Station

My problem is, that my PowerMac G5 with an Airport Card can not find the Airport Network from the Expreme Station. But I can see all other wlan-networks.
With me MacBook Pro I have no problems, I have an normal connection to the Station.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
In AirPort Utility how is your AirPort Extreme configured in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, Radio Mode list? If it's set to 802.11n only the AirPort card in your G5 probably doesn't support that.

  • Airport extreme does not appear in airport utility and will not reset

    Hi,
Here's the problem: My base station wasn't letting me reconfigure its settings via ethernet or airport. I unplugged all cables and performed a hard reset. Now, it will not appear in airport utility either on ethernet or wireless, and it will not revert to the factory 'Apple Network #######' broadcast. It is still showing the name of the previous network in my computer's airport settings. Also, running iStumbler, it too does not see a new network.
Question: Is it fried? If not, what should I do?
    Thanks.

I'm may be having the same problem:
Airport Utility doesn't find the base station, despite being connected with ethernet and even now while I'm actually connected to the internet through it via Airport. In my first experience, I reset the base station, and then it did show up, though, as you said, not reset to factory defaults. On another occasion, it wasn't showing up again, but did the next morning when I sat down. Weird. This is on an Alum. PB 15" running Tiger (10.4.11). I also just got an Oct 08 MBPro with 10.5.5 and it's copy of Airport Utility is finding the base station right now while this machine is not. Is this some kind of bug? Both copies of Airport Utility are 5.3.2 (532.8)

  • ATT hooked up new u-verse router, now time capsule does not work and airport utility does not see it ?

ATT hooked up the new U-verse router replacing the older 2wire router. Old 2wire router worked fine with Airport +Time Capsule. Now only the amber light flashes. When I try to reconnect with Time Machine it does not find the Time Capsule nor does the airport utility find the Time Capsule. Any help?

Okay, the 3801HGV also doesn't bridge - but there is a workaround. Info on the workaround comes from 'SomeJoe7777' at this link:
    http://forums.att.com/t5/Residential-Gateway/U-verse-for-BUSINESS-2Wire-3600HGV- bridge-mode-or-another-AT-amp/td-p/2707013
As for connecting to your TC: the 3801HGV uses a default IP address of 192.168.1.254. It passes out IP addresses to your networked devices, and all of those IP addresses will be 192.168.1.something. The TC uses a default IP address of 10.0.1.1. As your primary router, if the TC's defaults weren't changed, the TC would be handing out addresses to your networked devices that are 10.0.1.something.
If your computer has an IP address of 192.168.1.something, it won't be able to see the TC if the TC's address is 10.0.1.1 (or anything else that's not 192.168.1.something). Hopefully that makes sense!
Go into System Preferences on your Mac, and click the Network icon. Click on Ethernet on the left side, and you'll be able to see what IP address your Mac has been given. My guess is that it has a 192.168.1.something address from the 3801HGV.
If I'm right about the 192.168.1.x address, and that your TC is running with 10.0.1.x addresses, then that's why your Mac can't see your TC. In this case, you need to change the Mac's Ethernet setup to manually set your Mac to a 10.0.1.x address for the TC to see. To do this, go to System Preferences, then Network, then click Ethernet on the left side.
Set the Configure IPv4 dropdown to 'Manually', and it will open up some places for you to fill in information:
IP Address: 10.0.1.15 (or a similar number that won't conflict with your TC's address, but starts with 10.0.1)
    Subnet Mask: put in 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.1.1 (I'm assuming here that your TC was running with the default IP address; if it was something different, then set Router to whatever IP address your TC was using.)
Then, click the Apply button to make your changes active.
Now, since your Mac's IP address will be in the right "subnet" for your TC, they should be able to see each other. (It's kind of like having to live on the same block as someone to be able to talk with them. In general, if your computers don't have similar addresses, they can't talk to each other. Of course that's simplified greatly, but you probably get the idea...)
Once you've got the IP addresses matched up, you should be able to see your TC. At that point, you can update the TC to work with the 3801HGV. I recommend setting it to bridge mode, but if you can follow SomeJoe7777's advice, go for it!

  • Airport Utility can not find air port extreme base station

I am running XP home on my computer and have an air port extreme base station connected to it wired. I have no problem connecting to the internet yet more times then not the air port utility can not find the base station. On occasion it will find it but most of the time it can not. Rebooting does not help.

I recently purchased one of the new Airport Extreme base stations and after carefully reading the instructions; I first installed the Airport Utility 5.5 that came on the CD onto my MacbookPro. I then connected the new base station to my macbookpro via Ethernet and power it up. I copied a previously saved configuration onto it. All my printers, IMAC and macbookpro were able to connect.
I then used my older base station and my airport express to extend the N and G networks through the house. My problem was (1) the new Airport utility would consistently lose the older extreme base station and the airport express, (2) An my HP printers keep losing the wireless connection to the new airport extreme base station. The only resolve was to consistently restart the new base station, after which (1) the new airport utility would see the older base station and express again and (2) the wireless connection to the printers would be restored.
After about a week of this, I removed the new Airport Extreme and replaced it with the older extreme (802.11N DRAFT) and de-installed the Airport Utility 5.5 and re-installed Airport Utility 5.4.2 and everything works fine.
Has anyone else experienced any problems with the newly released Airport Extreme (fully 802.11N) base stations and Airport Utility 5.5?
