My aperture library won't open - it's stored on an external R6 pegasus drive?

Have been through the various other threads and followed most of the ideas - repair disk permissions, plist delete, rebuild database.
The application works ok and when it is not trying to access the library stored on the pegasus it works fine - I guess the librray on the pegasus must be corrupted some how but can I get to the unerlying files and re-import?
Help!?

Yes it's Mac OS extended. I've had it working before but since the file size became so large (200GB+) it has started to have problems. I just tried it with another laptop where I installed a new version of aperture and it said that the library rebuild had been interrupted. It restarted the rebuild and now I can get access but I'm worried about the stability going forward and every time I try to move the aperture library (by copying it to another external drive) or update the vault it just hangs.
So I'm not sure whether this is an imac issue, an aperture issue or a problem with the compatibility of the pegasus storage (I suspect the latter)?
Any thoughts on what to do or just cross my fingers and hope it doesn't happen again??

Anyone any suggestions how to fix this ****?

    Also one more thing
On the MacBook Air - Where aperture is working fine and loading the library, i tried to change the name of the library and then when I tried to open it it shouted with the error ""Error Opening Library--The library could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please upgrade the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again""
But when I changed the name back it was working fine again on the MacBook AIr

  • Help, everytime I try to rebuild my library, aperture crashes (was my aperture library won't open)

I have tried to recover my aperture library through all methods specified by apple. Rebuild was my last option. Is this library lost for good? It is with all my masters and organized painstakingly over the last year.
I am running osx v10.6.7 on an intel 17" macbook pro. The library is 250GB on an external 5ooGB  Harddrive. Aperture 3 with the latest version.
    Any suggestions?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

I have two libraries...the old (archive) library updated with the 3.4.3 update, but my new primary in another location did not. Now when I try to open the new library (3.4.2) I get a message stating that I need:
"To import this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded. Verify that you have iPhoto 9.4 or later. Then open the library in iPhoto to upgrade it."
I dont have 9.4 and cannot figure this out...
    Please help!

    Léonie,
After it started working again, the library will not open despite being upgraded to version 3.4.3.

  • My Aperture Library won't open.

It has been a week of trying to recover my 250gb aperture library. I have followed the support given by apple to the "t". To no avail. I've repaired permissions, repaired database, deleted user preferences, moved the user created presets, deferred preview generation, and even reinstalled aperture on my computer.
Generally, at this point I would just give up, but these are 7 years of photos organized and timed the way i want them to be. I will not give up.
As it seems not the rebuild database seems it would be the best solution but it starts off then just crashes.
Any suggestions on what to do?

    my advice...
    1) run disk utility (applications/utilities/disk utility), and then click on your external drive from the column on the left and then click "verify disk" on the bottom right of the disk utility window. This will check to see if the external drive has any problems. (If you have a program like drive genuis or tech tools then use that instead of disk utility.) Once your external disk checks out ok, click on your osx volume from the column on the left and then click "repair permissions". After this is done, continue to step 2.
    2) Do like the previous poster said and start aperture by holding the option key. When the menu comes up, pick "create new library". Does aperture start ok with the new empty library? if so, from inside aperture, at the top of the menu, click "file, switch to library, other/new" and pick your old aperture library. If it loads, then exit out of aperture and go to step 3. If it locks up, just force quit aperture (click the apple at the top left, then force quit, then pick aperture). Now go to step 3.
    3) hold down both the option and the command key. When the menu comes up, pick "repair permissions" after this is done, does aperture start with your library? If so, exit aperture and repeat but this time pick "repair database". It may take awhile. It should load. If it does, does it seem to be working correctly now?

  • I've upgraded to Snow Leopard, Aperture 3 won't open.

I've finally upgraded to snow leopard (hoping the bugs would all be worked out!)  Aperture 3 won't open.  I did the "fix" found under aperture support.  However, the advised,  3.1.1 update for aperture won't open either, saying it I need to install aperture 3 first (it is installed!)  help please....

Please see this thread and do follow all the instructions.
Just upgrade to Snow.  Now Aperture 3.1 will not start.
I know you have Aperture 3 installed and feel its silly to reinstall it but just try it.

  • Aperture database won't open

I had a drive failure today on Mac Pro.  The drive had the Aperture library and image files.  Using Time Machine I restored the entire drive to a new drive, but now, I get a message "There was an error opening the database for the library "-- new path here" - the only option offered is "Quit."
Does anyone have any suggestions?  I've tried opening using Option and Command keys.
    Rich

I figured it out.  The images were not in the Masters Folder (Package Contents), apparently, this most recent backup by Time Machine was not completed before the disk failed.  I went back a few hours and found a Library that had all of the images, and am up and running now.  Thanks C5Z for your suggestion.

  • My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

    Leonie,
Fisrt let me thank you for your reply and assistance!  So here is the problem with so more detail...I was not sure I was going to get any replies ; )
I restored from a time machine back up.
    History of Failure:
I was trying to launch Aperture when the kernal panic occured.  My computer had been closed, and asleep and the battery was dead.  I plugged in charger and it was restoring/waking up after being asleep/shutting down from dead battery.  I launched Aperture from the dock and as soon as it opened the kernal panic occured.  After that the computer would not turn on.  It would try to boot then it would shut off.  I even tried to safe boot to no avail.  I went to the Apple store and they told me that the only thing I could do was restore whole computer from back up.  So thats what I did.
Since then my previous aperture library: "2011" will not open.  I have created a new aperture library "2012", and it runs fine.  I have added new photos for about the past month...no problems.
When I launch aperture with 2012 library then try to switch libraries, I get the following prompt: "The selected library is from an older version of Aperture and requires a relaunch to switch."  I choose "Relaunch" and I get the following warning prompt: "There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library 20111.aplibrary”."  The only option is "Quit"
    Both libraries are version 3.2.3
    Computer stats: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, OS X 10.6.8
I have tried to launch aperture troubleshooting by holding option+command from both the aperture icon and from the library file, neither will launch the troubleshooting feature.
I am ok with computers, but not a whiz (mechanical engineer)...to me it seems as though there is a corrupt path or file or some sort of "check" that is failing, becuase the failure occurs so fast after trying to launch aperture. Maybe that doesn't make any sense but just a thought.
I hope that you may be able to provide some insight.  Thank you again for you time and I hope that you have a nice day!
    Mike

  • Reinstalled Tiger and now my iTunes library won't open.

Hi. I reinstalled Tiger and now my iTunes library won't open. And I can't install the latest 10.5 version of iTunes on this Mac. How do I get an older version of iTunes that will run this library? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

This is an issue alot are facing rightnow because the quicktime bundled with itunes is more "Up to date" for now than the stand alone is. Even when its removed some of its more updated registery keys are left behind.
GO here and follow ALL steps for removing itunes and quicktime, apple updater and ipod updater EXCEPT DO NOT install itunes til you get to the bottom of the page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

  • Library won't open after ML upgrade

My iPhoto library won't open. I click on the icon, and it will try to start iphoto, and will say that it unexpectedly quit a couple of times. Then it will finally pull up a balloon= asking me if i want to open the windows that were open when it crashed. Wither way, THe library won't show up, adn when I tell it to change to my iPhoto library, it does nothing. This started happenning as soon as I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I have run system update, and am running the latest version of all my software.
    Please help.

I had a similar problem, after upgrading to Mountain Lion on my (2008) MBP with iPhote form iLife'09 on it, it said it couldn't open the database because changes had been made to it with a newer version of iPhoto (?). After trying lots of things, like restoring the library from Time Machine again (first time I used the migration assistant), I finally found my solution: upgrade iPhoto to 8.1 first, using
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL885
Mystically, at first my MBP didn't want to run the update, said the developer was not to be trusted (???), I had to change my security settings temporarily to make it run software 'from any source', but that did the trick. I can now use my old iPhoto from iLife'09 again. Hope it helps for you as well.

  • 1.5.6 library won't open now that I download the 2.0 trial

I downloaded the 2.0 trial when it came out and put a few files in it to play around with. I left the 1.5.6 application on the computer since the 2.0 trial wouldn't allow me to use the 1.5.6 library. I would drag the 1.5.6 library onto the 1.5.6 application in the dock, however, though I used the 1.5.6 library with 1.5.6 earlier today I can not now load it in 1.5.6. A little popup comes up and tells me that i can't use it because it is a newer library, yet if I try to load it in 2.0 it won't let me update the library.
I NEED the 1.5.6 library as it houses all my photos. My vault is on another drive, one ironically that I can not get to at the moment (location redundancy).
    What can I do?

I retained Aperture 1.5.6 when I activated Aperture 2.0, too. I renamed the older version by adding the version number.
When I double-click on the icon for either version of Aperture it attempts to open the last library that was used by either version. I get around the problem by right-clicking (or Ctrl-clicking) on the library icon instead, then choosing which version of Aperture to use from the dropdown menu.

  • Iphoto default library won't open

I've been having iPhoto problems, and after all the research.... I've found that my computer STILL DOES have my photos!!! (hallelujah) I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager & the "missing photos" are in my "DEFAULT" folder on iphoto, containing a couple thousand pictures and whatnot. Ex:
HOWEVER, (this is what is giving me the biggest issue), I can't open that default library!!! I know that it's still there, the pictures are in there.... I just cannot open the Default library! I clicked on "launch iPhoto" and it asked me to choose a library to launch. A whole bunch of rebuild libraries popped up, but not my DEFAULT library that I need to open! Ex:
Why isn't my DEFAULT library popping up in this table? And how can I open this library? I've been "missing" these photos for weeks now, and have been searching high and low for answers. I am finally so close! Found the pics, but can't retrieve them! Help! -

  • My iPhoto library won't open

I have iPhoto 7.1 that shows up in my applications folder. Apparently, I upgraded to iPhoto 9.3 according to the App Store but it does not show up on my computer, When I try to install 9.3, it says I need 9.1.
My real problem is that the Library has been upgraded to 9.3 so the 7.1 version won't open it.
So I either have to find a way to install 9.3 or a way to move my library back to work with 7.1
I have installed OS 10.9 (Maverick)
I have the iMac 27 inch with  2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 and 12 GB memory
    HELP
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Terence
    It says in bold:
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
    Under that it says:
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
My problem is that I cannot find my latest version of iPhoto on the computer though the App Store says that it is installed
