Just bought an airport extreme to improve my wifi for my apple tv and iPad it seems to work but the light keeps flashing amber.
Any ideas?

The flashing amber light indicates that a setting needs to be adjusted or there might be firmware update for the product.
What operating system are you using on the computer that you used to configure the AirPort Extreme?
If you have a Mac, and you are not sure....
Click the Apple icon in the extreme upper left hand corner of the screen and then click About This Mac to see the OS X version number.

Laptop charger appears to be working but no light

I have a HP laptop dv6-1215ee and i am having some charger trouble. My charger plugged in appears to be charging the battery and working fine, but the light right where i plug in the charger is not on. I cross checked it with my friends HP laptop charger and my laptop was working fine as well with light on and everything. It is just with my charger that the light does not come on.
I plugged my charger in his laptop and the light didnt come on.
I started my laptop without battery with my charger plugged in and it blinked twice before going off. the laptop did start working on it though. (with my friend's charger, the light stayed on without battery)
voltage problems ? should i be using the laptop on that charger ? I am out of warranty.

there are loads of people with the same problem you'd think apple would investigate what the problem is an let us all know there really **** with customer service / satisfaction. Have you tried putting it in the fridge for about ten minutes been reading alot about that on threads wouldnt do it meself now

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Do you have any filters applied to your clips?
This happened to me before, I accidently had applied a broadcast safe filter to a color matte that was black....
I figured it out by duplicating my sequence and deleting items from my timeline 1 by 1 until I was able to export a reference movie.
Anywho, export again, this time with "self contained" movie selected.
Then try to import to Compressor.

When I connect Time Capsule to Time Warner Cable Modem, amber light flashes

I want to use Time Capsule as my primary wireless network base. When I connect my Time Capsule directly to my Time Warner Cable Modem, the amber light flashes and Time Capsule won't appear in AirPort Utility on my MacBookPro. I've tried unplugging everything and waiting to reset cable modem and Time Capsule.
Before I got the Time Capsule, I used a wireless router. The only way I can get Time Capsule to work is as a guest on my old wireless router network. I can't get the Time Capsule to configure itself directly with my Time Warner Cable Modem.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

This situation is pretty common now and it has nothing to do with the any of the routers but rather how cable modems are configured to work. They seem to latch on to the first device connected to them whether it be a router or a computer and will not allow any other device to access their network. The solution is to power off the cable modem and wait a minute. While you're waiting disconnect the old connection from the cable modem. Power up the cable modem and then connect the new device, router or computer, to the cable modem. Give it a few seconds to complete the connection and you should be ready to go. You have to do this every time you switch connections to the cable modem. This is also why you should set your router to serve addresses so that you don't have to do the cable modem samba when you want to connect a new device to the network.

You can try removing and reseating the memory and see if that works.
If that doesn't work, remove all but one memory module (if the PC has more than one), and see if the PC runs normally with one memory chip. If it beeps, remove and replace with the memory you removed and keep doing that until you find the bad memory chip.

Express Amber light flashing

I have "installed" the Airport Express to my wireless network. However, the amber light flashes continuously no matter what. It has never established a green light. It shows up separately from the "network" through my Airport Extreme and does not work simultaneously with my network to allow me access to both the internet and iTunes through my stereo. What am I doing wrong?

Simple answer - the network isn't set up properly. Though it wasn't 100% clear from your message, I am going to assume you already had a working wireless network with an Airport Extreme Base Station.
Get everything back to a known state:
1. Unplug your Airport Express from power.
2. Run the Airport Admin Utility, select to view the configuration of your Airport Extreme Base Station. Under the Airport tab, make sure the box next to "Create a closed network" is NOT checked. Under the Access Control tab, make sure there are NO entries in the table shown. Under the WDS tab, make sure all fields are blank, no boxes are checked, no table entries are made. Update settings to your Base Station.
3. Do a factory reset of your Airport Express per:

To set up your network:
1. Plug your laptop, Base Station, and Airport Express into power, all in the same room (for now). Make sure the laptop is able to access the internet via the Base Station.
2. Run the Airport Setup Assistant. Use its guidance to configure your Airport Express as a new base station that "joins" the existing wireless network created by the Airport Extreme Base Station.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and a message will appear to tell you why the amber light is blinking
If things seem to be OK otherwise, it might be something as simple as a notice that you have an update available for your AirPort.

Dynadock U3 - Ethernet not working - Send/Receive lights flash every 3 secs

My wife uses a Dynadock with a Spectre XP.
The Ethernet worked fine when I first set it up, but I've just noticed the wired connection is not operating (is operating on wireless only).
The Send & receive lights on the Dynadock n/w port flash every ~3seconds, & the status of the port in Windows alternates between Enabled & cable unplugged.
Not sure how long the wired connection hasn't been working, but my wide did upgrade to Win 8.1 a couple of months ago. At the time I had to upgrade drivers to get the video via the Dynabook working. I've checked & the Win network drivers were also upgraded as part of this.
Have seen a couple of other posts about uninstalling/reinstalling drivers (done) & cases where the network icon in device driver has a warning '?' (says "device is working properly" in my case).
Any recommendations, or suggestions for additional diagnostics?

I think the issue appears due to the upgrade to Win 8.1 system.
You will need to configure the network properties of the LAN adaptor:
For connection to the Ethernet network via a network cable connect one end of a network
cable to the Ethernet port (RJ-45) on the dynadock and the other end to your network for high
performance network access.
To configure the network properties of the Ethernet adaptor:
In Windows 8.1, move the mouse pointer and click icon in the lower-left of the screen to get to the
Apps view, and then click Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> View network status and tasks -> Change adapter settings.
In the Network Connections folder, double-click the connection icon for the dynadocks Ethernet adaptor,
which is indicated by dynadock Ethernet. This will open the Local Area Connection Properties window for you to
configure the network settings as required according to your network environment.
Note: The Local Area Connection icon in the System Tray/Notification Area will not show a connection. Open Network Connections to view the Ethernet Connection.

My new Westell Modem/Router will work as homenetwork, DSL light works but internet Light is off.

Hello, i recently recieved a new modem/router from verison tech support. Its a newer model adsl2+. Well it will work as a router but won't connect any devices to the internet. The DSL light lights up but the internet does not. It says the same then when i connect it to my other router. The devices are connected, but not to the internet. Please Help. Thanks.

Time Machine appears to be working but isn't backing up

I noticed recently that my latest TM backup on my MacBook is 8 months old. I've gone through MANY backups since then and they all appear to work—the clock spins and stops and I get no error messages. But then, just the same 8-month-old backup is there. It doesn't matter whether it's automatic or I hit "back up now." I'm using a Seagate FreeAgent USB connected external drive for backups.
The external drive appears to be ok. I can access it and everything stored on it works. I tried repairing the backup disk—both the main disk and the partition listed underneath—several times. I get an OK every time.

I typed "backupd" into the console and there are 2 repeated messages there: "Not starting TM backup after wake - failed to resolve alias to backup volume" and "Not starting scheduled TM backup - TM destination not resolvable." I don't know what these things really mean, BUT my MacBook is not my main computer so I don't keep the external drive plugged into it all the time, so of course it's not going to start automatically if the drive isn't there.
My software is up to date. I'm out of ideas. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I think a reset may be your only solution, however if you are backing up settings , messages, photos etc on SkyDrive , the phone should trstore quite easily (at least that has been my experience) and nothing on your sd card would be affected anyway. Unfortunately not everything will instakll and run on sd card so maybe install your game first on phone memory and install other apps after ?
Hope you get sorted ok and that maybe someone has a better solution than a reset.

Computer working but back light doesn't

I have a previous post indicating that the MacBook might be not recovering from "sleep", but I can now see that everything is working and the screen is not lit. What makes the screen light up? I don/t think there is anything else wrong.

before going any further, it might be good to make sure that the brightness of your screen is not turned down to zero. first, i would try with the screen buttons on the keyboard, (top row, left side, 2nd from left is for lowering intensity, 3rd from left is to increase intensity).
If this does not work: can you connect your MB to another Mac, so that you could see what is going on?

My IPod mini appears to be working, but I do not get any sound. I have reset it, but that didn't help. Is it possible that when it was exposed to a lot of sweat it shorted the speaker card?

My Ipod mini will not produce sound. I have reset it, still no sound. The only thing that I think might be causing this (and I want to know if I am correct) I carried it in my hand while walking in extream heat. The perspiration may have gotten in the device.

Be sure to try another set of headphones, if you have one.
Since you already did a Reset, the next thing you can try is to go to the Settings screen on the iPod (from the main screen). There should be an option at the bottom that says something like Reset All Settings. Choose that option to reset iPod to default settings.
If that does not bring back the sound, the next thing to try is a Restore in iTunes. Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Summary tab. The Restore button is there. This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. If the cause is a software or settings glitch, a Restore should fix it. Try putting a few songs on the iPod to check if there is improvement.
If that does not bring back the sound, it is probably a hardware problem. A fix would then require replacing whatever part is faulty inside the iPod. It could be the headphone jack or something on the logic board. Moisture getting inside could have caused the problem, but it could just be age; maybe the headphone jack is just worn out.

I suggest testing the memory. The specifications say that there is 1x2 GB and 1x4 GB (= 6 GB). Remove all of the memory and replace each module one at a time and boot. The single module should be installed in the slot nearest to the Processor.
