It can be the bridge. It could need firmware update. or the FW ports may be an issue. LaCie seemed to invent the phrase/tip 'resetting firewire ports' due to the issues with their drive cases.
You can try an SMC Reset.
So far I have avoided name-brand and tend to see them mentioned. Often with a new OS (though you are on 10.6.8, but when 10.6 came out there was a common complaint and thread of users: FW or USB worked but not the other interface).

2.0 GHz Intel Quad core i7 vs. 3.7 GHz Intel Duo Core i7 Processor: Why not make the Quad Core 3.7GHz?

I don't really understand processors, but is the 2.0GHz Quad Core i7 really a better processor in terms of performance? If it has 4 cores why not give it greater processing speed like 2.7 or 3.0 GHz?
I am asking because I am thinking about getting the high end Mac Mini, but I see that it's processor runs at 2.0GHz and the others in the line run at 2.5 and 2.7 respectively. Why is this?

I'm really oversimplifying here, but...
Let's just assume that each core runs at full speed all the time, the total performance of that processor would be the sum of the running totals of each core:
Duo Core i7 = 2 (cores) * 2.7 GHZ = 5.4 Ghz total processor power
Quad Core i5 = 4 (cores) * 2.0 GHZ = 8.0 Ghz
Like I said, oversimplified. But, you get the point. Not to mention, most apps still aren't optimized, so at a given time they only use a single core anyway. In this case, it'd be more beneficial to have more cores, since they would (hypothetically) be able to run more simultaneous processes (four vs. two in your case).
I gues the greater question is: what were you planning on using the mini for? Most CPUs go underutilized anyway, so you may be better off getting a 2.0, and maxing out your RAM and maybe adding a SSD. Those upgrades (the SSD especially) will result in a very noticeable increase in performance.

I bought an Apple TV two days ago for a lg tv. We had a blue ray player on one HDTV connection. It was working fine. Unhooked that plugged in the apple and ... Nothing. No Signal. The on light illuminates all cords tight. Do I take it back to store?

I would test it with the tv of friends and or relatives to verify it was broken

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

Since upgrading to 4.0, I am not able to vertically scroll using my touchpad on my laptop. I know the vertical scroll is ok because it's working fine with excel, word, pdf, etc.

i use Gateway NV56. scrolling works everywhere including FF 3.6 but not in 4.
I just gave up and rolled back to 3.6.
Did all that I could find on the forum update driver//turn off add ons//change config stuff.

How can I get iTunes running on Windows XP as well as a newer laptop running Windows 7 to both recognize my new iPhone 4S? It seems to work fine with Win 7 PC so far, but not at all with the XP OS separate laptop.

I have different libraries on each machine which I need to sync with the iPhone, both in iTunes. Hi turingtest2 - thanks for the reply. As you say It is how it is - and I have three workstations in this home (not counting three for my children and one for the family) and I pretty much always have more than one OS on each - that's how it is for me. I shouldn't have to worry about how many OSs I have (or how often I change them) just to have music while I'm working - through the PC sound system that is. I never have to worry about any other software, only iTunes. Once in a while (in the past) I've made a vendor call if I changed to many things to often (like CPU, GPU, memory, etc - or even a replacement MB) - but that hasn't happened in a couple years (at least since Vista) so I think (hope) they have fixed that for good. And even then it was a quick call and problem resolved. The only (glaring) constant problem is iTunes - limiting my own use of my own music (by counting an OS as a physical PC). Even with VM (which is just another OS) - although you can Attach things to multiple active OSs - it's still your own (purchased) music - and all on one PC. Thanks again!

Firefox won't work, every website has an error like the internet isn't connected but internet explorer works fine, how do I fix it?

This is the message I get for EVERY website I have tried: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at support.mozilla.com. I have checked the firewall and didn't notice any problems but I might not know what to look for. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program and still have the problem, I have also tried on different wireless internet signals and restarting my computer. I am using windows 7.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You're not addressing Apple here, you are addressing a user based community. An Apple employee may read your post but he/she will not officially respond to it.
You didn't say if your networking is Wi-Fi or USB Dongle based so I'm assuming Wi-Fi in this response. If you do a search of the forums you will find that quite a few are having Wi-Fi issues with Lion--things that worked fine with Snow Leopard are flakey or don't work at all with Lion so your problem may be another instance of the Wi-Fi issues in Lion. If not, then perhaps someone with knowledge of your specific issue will post. I see my other Macs (MBP, 24" iMac, 27" iMac all running Lion) fine but I don't have a PC to test.

Hello, my father recently passed (using his ID) and I took over the payments on his mac and took his computer. I am not that familiar with mac, but am usually computer savy. However, this one has me stumped. I have no problem starting the built in cam and it seems to work fine with all other programs I've tried using it with. However, it will not work with yahoo. Whether I use normal yahoo messenger or if I try using Yahoo through I chat. The cam button will not light up, therefore, it is not clickable. Which ultimately means I cannot use my cam on yahoo, which is something I use 99% of the time compared to other programs. So why is this happening and what solutions can I take to try and fix this? The mac I am using is: Mac OS X, Version 10.7.4

1) If the iTunes preference window is open when you connect your iPod, the iPod will not be recognized by iTunes.
Also, iPods can work with many iTunes libraries, so that is not the problem here.
Is all the software on your computer up to date?

Does the iPod show up in My Computer when connected to your computer? Does it say Do Not Disconnect?

2) What part aren't you understanding. Here are a couple of free programs you can use to convert videos...

The programs should come with documentation and instructions to convert videos.
3) You can go to file-->add file to library, file-->add folder to library, or have iTunes open and drag the files into the iTunes library while viewing the library.. You can also import from CDs.
iTunes needs to be adding the songs to the iPod. You cannot just add the song files to the iPod.

How can I set the FF400 to be the sound output device in FCP 10.2? N.B. The FF400 is set as sound output device in both system preferences and audio midi setup.

I have the solution! Well it at least worked for me. This is the response I got from Apple, Can you please try the following steps towards fixing your audio issue, and report back with your results?
1. Open the application Audio Midi Setup (located in Applications : Utilities)
2. Select the Output Tab for the current output device
3. Select the Configure Speakers option
4. Select the Multichannel tab
5. Change the setting to Stereo Now mine was set to stereo but the left channel wasn't showing left. re-clicking on stereo reloaded the settings and after clicking apply it worked.

Will work fine with USB 1.1 but not with USB 2.0? Help!

Hi, I have installed my ipod on windows XP PC and it works fine with my USB 1.1 ports, however when i try to use my usb 2.0 ports all i get is
(a) the noise suggesting someting has been plugged in
(b) in device manager it says USB mass storage device wiht a yellow exclamation mark beside it. (it is enabled by the way)
(c) on the ipod screen it says 'ok to disconnect'
please i can't cope with usb 1 transfer rates and i dont have any spare slots to fit a firewire card before someone suggests it.

Did you add the USB 2.0 devices after installing iTunes and the iPod? If so uninstall and reinstall. If you are in a position to disable the USB 1.1 device (just while you reinstall) that might be worth trying.

L550/010 USB port not working properly, non-standard USB ports

I wondering if anyone can shed some light on this strange problem I'm having with my laptop USB ports.
Background.
I have a USB device (CED-M2 USB Chronograph). The device comes with Windows 7 software to upload fps readings.
The CED has a calculator style keyboard - so you can lookup data without the laptop.
My L550 PSLWSA-01000Q, is running Windows 7 professional.
Problem.
When I connect the CED into the USB port the buttons on the CED no longer operate, As soon as the USB lead is disconnected the buttons work. Uploading the data doesn't work either. The buttons freeze occurs as soon as I plug into a powered USB port (even if user not logged into Windows and programs are not running).
I've installed the upload program onto two PC's at home (Vista Home and Windows 7 Home) and both PC's connect to the CED and upload fine. Furthermore, the CED push buttons works perfectly! So, this leads me to think that the hardware or signals from the laptop USB ports is not standard.
I've tried all three laptop ports (e-Sata/USB and normal USB ports), same problem.
Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Firstly, thanks for repsonding.
All L550/010 USB ports appear to work well on other devices (Sierra Wirless card, HP optical mouse, HTC phone), doesn't matter which port (USB, Esata/USB) all works fine with these units.
I've tried connecting the Chrono via a USB 4 port expander - same problem, no comms, chrono buttons locks up. Connect to Home PC running Vista Home and Windows 7 Home and works fine 9 - just can't take those to the range.
The Chrono unit is self powered (9V Alkaline) and it's new, so USB supplied 5V is not a problem.
The buttons seize whenever the laptop is powered up. Also, if the chono unit is powered down, connecting the USB lead to the laptop turns it on (wakes up). This wake up functions on both home desktop PC's and laptop (good), however, with the laptop I can't power down the Chrono as the buttons don't work.
Whilst laptop connected, and rebooting the Laptop, the Chrono buttons will work just before the Press F2 for setup screen comes up - so could it be electrical.
I've downloaded the latest BIOS from Toshiba and Intel chipset too - no change.
I got the unit to connect once tonight - when I plugged my mouse in at the same time - USB configured for mouse, and whilst doing that the Chrono worked. Once mouse working, Chrono stopped. Can't repeat results.
