My Apple display power button is flashing short-short-long.

My Apple display power button is flashing short-short-long. I know what it means and I checked everything and everything seems fine. What can I do to ensure everything is really fine and the flashing stops. The computer and the display worked fine for over a year. It started doing it when I switched my computer off using the power button on the display. it never happened before.
thanks!

What you might try is unplugging the monitor at it s ADC connexion to the video card and the plugging it back in - all with the Mac turned on and everything working (and flashing).
I had an LCD/ADC flatscreen monitor that would dim the top half of the screen and start flashing whenever I would run Disk Warrior or Applejack or switch to a different startup drive. Simply unplugging and replugging would return it to normalcy - for days or weeks - but sooner or later.... Grew tired of waiting for it to go altogether and bought another monitor, but I tried it the other day on a spare Mac and - sure enough - it started up dim and flashing. Remedy was the same: unplug and replug the ADC connexion and it was back to normal. No idea why!
No guarantee, and no idea how long it might last, but the effort is small and the price is right.

If the display flashed short long short could the power supply be bad?

    Hello,
In order to determine what might be going on, I am going to need a little more information about your setup such as:
-what version of the cFP drivers are you using?
-where/what device are you outputting voltage to? at what voltage? how much current do those devices require?
-could you explain further by what is meant by '[at] approximately 30 seconds, all channels on that PWM shut off'. Are the lights on the modules still illuminated when the system 'shuts off' or do they remain on?
-Do you have another power supply you could try this with?
-Does the power supply meet the specifications for use with this module per p. 4 and 5 of the FIELDPOINT AND SPECIFICATIONS™ OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FP-PWM-520 and cFP-PWM-520  Eight-Channel, 5 V...
-Does the power supply continue to output 24VDC even after the 'shut down'?

  • G60 power led, charge led, and power button led flash continually

I have a G60 laptop that will not charge the battery or start up and when I plug the power into it the power led, charge led, and power button led flash continually
If I press the power button I here the DVD drive make a noise and a fan comes on and goes right off.

    Hi
Probably a hardware issue, may have to contact local technical assistance or HP
Is the system able to boot up with AC supply only with battery removed?
Try keeping it charged for 3 hours or so with battery & AC adapter plugged in the lap, and try powering it on again after that.

  • Cinema display power button

I have a 20" cinema display attached to a macbook pro. I usually just hit the power button on the side to turn it off, but all of a sudden when I try to turn off the monitor, it asks me if I want to shut down the computer. Not sure what changed or how to turn off the monitor now. Any ideas?

    Figured it out.
System Preferences > Displays > Display Power Button > Turns power on and off. Couldn't find it before.

  • DVI to ADC adaptor: Display power button no longer works w/G5?

I'm looking for answers on a topic originally brought up in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=221092&tstart=45
concerning the Studio Display's power button when attached to an ADC/DVI adapter for use on a G5.
I am having the same problem. I had previously used the monitor directly attached to an MDD G4, and the power button worked fine. Now that it's attached to the adapter, I can't power up the G5. The brightness button will open the Monitors prefpane, so I would say that it's not a problem with the overall USB system.
Otherwise things work fine, so it's not the end of the world, but I'd like some confirmation or denial of the problem just to know if there's a defect or not.
    TIA
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It is working normally. ADC has extra pins to support the power button and light. DVI connectors don't have these pins, so there is no way for the DVI to ADC adapter to make the power button work.

  • 30" Display power button

Just upgaraded my G5 with a 30" Display, however the power button the display does not start the computer as it did with my 23" display. The power button when pushed and the computer is on, it will turn off the computer, but it does not turn the G5 on anymore.
How can I get the power button on the display to not only turn the computer off, but also on??

It can't turn the computer on because it isn't powered through the computer anymore.
The power switch is only sending a command to your computer to shutdown... that isn't the same thing as actually turning it off. You could achieve the same result by selecting "Shutdown" from the Apple bar.
Unless Apple returns to the ADC connector, the days of powering on/off your computer from the display are over.

  • IPad Mini Display + Power Button Malfunctioning

HI I just got an iPad Mini (1st generation) two days ago and it was workig fine until today when I was clearing some app data in my settings, then the screen went out. I tried holding the power button to get it back, but it wouldn't work. However, I held in the home button on the bottom, and Siri still worked but I searched for something on the voice command and I couldn't bring up what it found because the display is still out. Can someone please send me options on possible ways to get the display back?  Thank you

I have noticed this same exact thing with my iPad mini with Retina display. I notice it on YouTube, but it does it for only some videos consistently. there is this game called "Don't Starve" that I watch lots of let's plays for on YouTube, and the game has an over all sepia tone to it. Whenever I first start the video, some of the colors look off, but it fades sort of to where it should be. I pinch the video closed and everything looks off *outside* of the video, like there is no contrast, but it then kind of fades back to normal. Sort of weird, not exactly sure whether it is a display problem, or if it is a kind of auto adjustment feature... I notice it NOWHERE but videos. It doesn't really bug me, and I don't mind the screen fading back to where it should be after a video, (because at least the colors do go back to normal, rather than staying washed out!) but at the same time, it does concern me because I am unsure whether this is a software feature to enhance colors in video, or if it is a display problem. I have heard the retina mini does have image retention problems (for some devices only), which means that if a particular image is left on the screen for a long time, and then it suddenly changes, you can see an after effect of the previous image for a bit, which is a screen defect. Also, the iPad mini with retina display does have a lesser color gamut than other apple devices, seen easiest when comparing it with the iPad Air, it even can be seen when comparing to an iPad 3rd generation, or iPad 4th generation. I have observed this between my iPad mini with retina and the iPod touch 5th gen, iPhone 5, and this would also be seen between the iPad mini with retina and iPhone 5S, because the iPhone 5S uses the same screen as the iPhone 5.

  • My power button is flashing (white) and I have no video, no beep, just rapid flashing

The power button on my mac pro is flashing (white) and I have no video, no beep, just rapid flashing.

"Almost all flashing power button at startup problems are caused by RAM issues."
Wow, how a simple search here saved me a lot of time, THNX!!
One of my 8 Transcend 2GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM modules caused this fault. Strangely no red led on any of the 2 RAM trays, so I had to trial-and-error all modules on each of the two RAM trays to find out wich module broke on me.

  • Flashing Power Button and flashing red decorative bar on front of desktop tower

a brand new Desktop PC an Envy 700-230qe.  Have had it a few days.  This is the second one in less than 3 weeks because of the same problem. When the computer is at rest for a little while the power button and the decorative red bar on the front of the computer flashes.  I am well aware the power button and the red decorative bar have nothing to do with each other.  What is going on?    We right now have 5 HP computers in our house.  Never has anything like this happened.  We are so dissapointed.  I would be very grateful if someone could help me.  Thank you.

    Hi SunnyNoel,
    I have an Envy 810-150se.
When the PC sleeps the power button and the decorative red bar flash on mine also.
I have not found any HP documentation on this but I believe our PC's are designed to flash when in sleep mode.

  • Cinema Display power button doesn't sleep

I retired my older 15" Studio Display after recently purchasing a 23" Cinema Display. I loved the feature on my Studio Display that the power button would automatically put my computer to sleep. With my new Cinema display when I push the power button it brings up the Shut Down, Sleep, Restart, dialogue box instead. I changed the system prefs, and it still doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?

I have the opposite problem as Michael's. Mine gives me the option to sleep, powerup JUST the diplay or do nothing. I want to be able to powerup/shutdown the whole Mac using the diplay button on the side. Checked the sys pref and nothing there. Maybe somewhere else?
    Pls help. Thanks

  • Cinema Display Power Button Not Functional

The power button on my cinema display does nothing when pressed. The other button on the display (display preferences button) does work as expected. I have confirmed that the 'Disable power button' is not selected in the display settings panel.
The button glows brighter when I press it, but nothing else happens.
I would like to be able to start up and shut down my computer with this button since my bluetooth keyboard cannot do it, and I keep my laptop shut when it is connected to the external display.
I was just given this display, so I do not know if has ever worked.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Ron,
Possibly a daft question but do have either of the Cinema Display's USB or firewire cables plugged into your G4 as well as the DVI connection? This may sound obvious but I couldn't get the buttons on my 20" ACD to work until I plugged the USB connection into my Macbook.

  • 23" HD cinema display power button with 2010 MacBook Pro

The power button on my 23" HD cinema display (clear enclosure) doesn't turn on my 2010 MacBook Pro. I don't use both screens at once much and would like to leave the laptop shut. Is there a workaround?

Thanks! I found I can also start up, close the lid (and sleep), then just click to wake the machine.

  • Lumia 920 Power Button and Flash Stopped Working

The power button and camera flash randomly stopped working on my Lumia 920. The phone itself still works (I can tap to wake it and use it normally) but the power button does nothing when pressed. I tried letting the battery drain completely then let it re-charge overnight to no avail. I also attempted to perform a factory reset but the issue persists. I contacted both AT&T and Nokia Support but they are no help at all.

    hi mate,
sorry to hear that you are still having issues. in this case, there may be some hardware/software damage to your handset, and in this case it is best to contact Nokia Care directly. you can do this by clicking the Nokia Support link at the bottom of this page, or on Twitter via @NokiaHelps.

  • My microcell's power button is flashing red and green.

And I thought that we had already seen the shortest post of all time here a few weeks ago.....
Definitely need a lot more information but if I had to guess based on the mountain of symptoms provided, either the Mcell or the AC adapter is borked.

That doesn't help us at all. Is this a new MicroCell or did you buy it from eBay? Has it ever worked? It could be as simple as a failed/failing ac adapter.
If you want us to help, you need to provide more information than what is in the subject line.
