My apple mac is not charging

My MacBook doesn't seem to be charging when it's plugged into the power outlet. I have tried restarting, plugging it in again and other outlets...at least 3 times each. It was working earlier today.

There are several possible causes for symptoms that affect the MagSafe
adapter; some of them include minor issues, up through wear-related ones.
•Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters
An Apple Authorized Service Provider with technical test diagnostics can
check over the adapter and the MacBook/Pro itself for causes of this issue.
Also an Apple Store with Genius bar may be able to test and make a basic
preliminary diagnostic, often for free; however some repairs may be more
complex than first determined and may require other parts or service later
should the initial test not fully discover the main reason of partial failure.

The MagSafe Board (a DC-in Board in the computer) may be defective
or just the connective ends and surfaces may be damaged or dirty. So,
in addition to battery condition and life, MagSafe adapter & cable, magnetic
ends of the cable and in-computer connection, these can contribute to a
situation where the light is dim on the charging plug, or where insufficient
power may be getting into the battery and the computer, as needed.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
You could try and see (if no damages are present to power adapter/ports)
if a System Management Controller - reset - may help, if the matter could
be based in software instead of the hardware related to power.
So, depending on the actual cause of the symptom, service may be
required; and at some point, the battery could need replacement, too.
Good luck & happy computing!

Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.
Will the data on my iPhone be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPhone will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPhone and does not offer any data transfer service. During service, Apple may exchange your iPhone with an iPhone that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability.
Following service, your iPhone may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

  • Why wont my mac book not charge

All of the sudden my computer will no longer charge.  I am trying to determine if the issue is my power cord which no longer provides a green charging indicator light.  Or the Battery since  the power indicator states "not charging".  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    There are more possibilities.
    - a bad contact; does it effectively charge, how is the small chargeibattery icon in the upper right side of Apple bat? does it effectively charge, even if LED is off? sometimes, LED contact may be broken, but charge goes on
    - chip does not detect the computer; I have one such charger, which behaves erratically, sometimes it charges, sometimes does not; no, not a contact problem, a chip problem.
    - charger damaged
    - magsafe port damaged
    - battery damaged
One cannot say, you must take it step by step and isolate the issue: 1. connect another charger, just go to an Apple Center or ask a friend to let you test; 2. connect another battery; 3. connect your charger to another mac etc.

  • HELP!!! mac book not charging

ibought my mac book back in 2008 and have nothing but great things to say about it. Recently i ran into a charging problem where it just says not charging at the top. My mac is still working fine but i would like it to charge. I was wondering if it would be the charger, battery, or both? someone help me please

You'll want to provide your battery information.  The process is a little different depending on whether or not you have Lion installed or not.
    1) Pre-Lion:  Click on the Apple logo on the top left of your display.  Select "About this Mac" and then select "More Info".  Scroll down the left pane and click on "Power".  On the right pane, scroll down to the battery section and copy that whole section and paste it here.
    2) With Lion:   Click on the Apple logo on the top left of your display and select "About this Mac".  You'll get a pop-up like below.  Select "System Report".  On the System Report, scroll down the left pane and click on "Power".  On the right pane, scroll down to the battery section and copy that whole section and paste it here.

  • My mac will not charge when plugged in

I went to plug my mac in and noticed that the green light on the charger did not show up and it says not charging in the upper right corner. My mac doesn't die so I'm assuming it is gettig power but not charging. Do I need a new charger or batt.? Thanks

Battery information is found in SYSTEM PROFILER>HARDWARE>POWER.
Sometimes the power adapter does not show the light but is still functioning.  (that often the case with mine)  If on the menu bar the icon shows that it is charging, your ok.  If not, I jiggle the connector or snap it and that restores the connection.  If neither works, make certain the the connectors are clean, both on the adapter and the MBP.  Check to see if any of the posts are bent or missing.
If still no success, try another adapter if available.  If that does not work, the are issues with the MBP.  If it does, a new will be the answer.
    Ciao.

  • After downloading Mavricks my mac does not charge and is saying i need to service my battery, what is the problem?, After downloading Mavricks my mac does not charge and is saying i need to service my battery, what is the problem?

My computer recently has stopped charging and when i go to the battery icon it says i need to service the battery, does this mean my mac actually needs serviced? Or is this just a glitch in the os? Can someone please help me. My battery doesnt acually seem to be depleating but its still a problem i would like solved. The battery lead has no colour in the LED. Please help

You can try an SMC reset:
Resolve power and other issues by resetting the SMCIn some situations, you may need to reset your computer's SMC.  Learn how to identify these conditions and reset the SMC.
If that does not fix it, you have software on your Mac that will reveal your battery's condition. Click and hold on your Apple menu (left end of menubar) and the press your OPTION key. The top items will change from "About this Mac..." to "System Information..."
When SI opens, look in the left-hand panel under hardware and find "Power" Click it. You will see this:
Copy/paste what I've shown (ingore anything lower on the screen) into a reply to your own post here. Please omit the serial number.
From that  we can get an idea if this is a software glitch or a real battery problem.

  • Mac Book not charging

My brand new Mac Book does not appear to be charging. The light on the power cord shows "green" but the battery icon in the top bar shows the power source as "battery", not "power adapter" and only 26% remaining. When the unit is off and closed, the power cord blinks "orange".

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.
    Black Batteries http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=macbook+black+battery&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_sop=12 &_dmpt=Laptop_Batteries&_odkw=macbook+white+battery&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0. m 270.l1313
    White Batteries http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=macbook+white+battery&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_sop=12 &_dmpt=Laptop_Batteries&_odkw=macbook+black+battery&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0. m 270.l1313
Or for $129 from The Apple Store  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA566LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
    Removing the battery:
Shut down the computer. Disconnect any cords connected to the computer.
    Turn the computer over.
Locate the battery latch on one side of the battery.
Use a coin to turn the latch a quarter-turn clockwise. The battery should pop up slightly.
    Lift the battery out.
    Installing the battery:
Place the right side of the battery into the battery compartment at an angle, as shown below.
Gently press the left side of the battery down until it sits flat.
While holding the battery down, use a coin to turn the latch a quarter-turn counter-clockwise. The battery should lock into place.

  • Why Apple/MAC does not offer server mounting application?

I am very disappointed to see that MAC /Apple does not offer simple server mounting application.
It is a  very basic facility provided in Linux. I am forced to use third party stuff like OSXFuse which still is not a permanent solution.
Hope someone at Apple could fix it.

I do not understand your question.  Do you want to mount file servers that DO NOT support CIFS/SMB or Apple Filing Protocol (AFP)?
Or do you want to mount file system formats not supported by Mac OS X (ext[234], btrfs, ZFS, etc...)?
Can you please clarify your question.
Finder -> Go -> Connect to server... will allow connecting to file servers via CIFS/SMB or AFP protocols.
Mac OS X will try to mount any directly attached file system (HFS+, NTFS (readonly), FAT, FAT32, exFAT).
What are you trying to mount?
NOTE:  No one in Mac OS X software development visits here.  This is a User-to-User forum.  You can send your feedback to:
    <http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html>
You will not get a reply, but it will be read by someone inside Apple.  I suggest you provide more details on what you desire, as they will not start a dialog with you as I'm trying to do.

  • IPad 2 stuck on apple logo and not charging but keeps rebooting without getting to the lock screed

My iPad 2 ran out of battery last night while I was playing a game on it, it keeps attempting to reboot but only gets as far as the apple logo before powering off, displaying low battery screen and rebooting again,  it has been on it's charger all night, I have tried resetting it but it just starts up again, can anyone tell me how to force it to shut down so it can try to charge before i try it again? (I can't get to the lock or the screen and pressing the power button and the home button together won't work) I thought the charger/cable may have been the problem but no cable or charger seems to work.
It doesn't seem to matter to it if it's connected to a computer or not

I am having the exact same problem!! did anyone figure anything out with this?!?!?!
it just keeps trying to reboot and it only gets as far as the logo then it'll reboot again!!

  • ITouch Frozen on Apple Logo and Not Charging

I have a second generation iTouch that is stuck on the low power and Apple logo even though I've plugged it in to my computer. It will stay on the logo screen for a couple of minutes, then go back to the low power, and again in a cycle.
If I unplug the iTouch, it will tell me the battery is low and to plug it in, and it won't show the logo screen. When I do plug it in, it has a little lightning sign but it's been charging so long that I don't think it's actually charging.
I've tried holding down the home and sleep buttons simultaneously, but to no effect.
Also, I can't restore it to factory settings because it's not being recognized by my iTunes.
    Please help!

Sounds like a hardware issue. I would get it looked at. You may need a new battery.
