My Apple Mini Display Port/HDMI adapter is not working after upgrading to Maverick?
I am using my 13" Macbook Pro Purchased July 2013 on my 42" Samsung TV. I route through a HDMI adapter (purchased from Apple) to do my presentations. As a note my setup has been working great for the last year. Immediately following the upgrade to Maverick my Samsung displays "No Signal" and changes state "Check Signal Cable" when the cable is disconnected. Obviously there is some type of signal but it is not recognized. I tried working with Apple support and they said that the adapter I was using must not be an Apple product. I investigated fully thinking I may have possibly bought the wrong item, after much research I have exactly the same thing sold on the Apple store online and I even went to 3 Apple stores locally to see if there was possibly another adapter that I should have purchased, but it was exactly the same thing I purchased originally. Help me fix the problem or please provide details on how to go back in operating systems to prior to Maverick (and not lose any of my data), this upgrade was a huge mistake way to many problems and not the quality that I am used to from Apple.
Had a similar problem, but the answer is not a good one.
You are going to have to wait until Apple fix this as some 3rd party monitors are not supported by this update.
So you can:
Go back to 10.6.7
Wait for Lion
or
Use Onxy to clear up your computer and it may link to it again.
I deleted some preference files, which when they rebuilt themselves after a restart did the trick.
It worked for me, let me know how you get on?

The Best Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter?
I am looking for recommendations on a good Mini Display Port HDMI Adapter for my Macbook Pro 2011 Sandy Bridge. I have gone through about 4 adapters in the past year due to the adapters become unresponsive after 2 or 3 months. I use my Macbook heavily on external monitors for my work (averaging 7 hours or more a day between various monitors).
I can rule out the HDMI wire itself not being the cause of the problem but the adapters have been a huge miss and drain on cash this year. If anyone who is also a heavy user can point me in the direction of a durable adapter I would be very grateful.I always recommend monopriice.com for cables and adapters.
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
But all these adapters are in the form of "pigtails" and no matter where you get them the strain relief and the cables can fatigue and break from constant bending or pulling (doesn't help your macbook socket any either).
Maybe you should order a bunch. They are cheaper that way at monoprice.
Another possibility might be you trying a mini displayport to HDMI cable. No adapter.
Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support (10 ft.)
But of course you could get about 6 adapters for the price of that one cable! -
Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter is not working. Please Help...
I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...
Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

Apple Cinema Display (20-inch DVI 2005) not working after 10.10.3 update
I have an Apple Cinema Display (20-inch DVI 2005) that isn't working after installing the 10.10.3 update. The screen is just blank, and the power light just blinks a few times every 30 seconds or so. I use this as a second monitor with my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012). Any way to fix this? Thanks!
Thank you for the update!
Next I would recommend the Reset the System section of the following article for additional troubleshooting:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.
I would reset the SMC and the PRAM together, in that order one more time, then do the Safe Boot if needed. -
Various Apple apps not working after upgrading to Mavericks
Some time after updating to Mavericks many of the native Apple applications started acting up.
Immediately the App Store would only show updates and only gave the spinning "loading" circle or blank screen in "featured" or "top charts," but all is well with "categories" and "purchases."
Notes gives me nothing; as soon as I click in an existing note to add text, or create a new note, it simply locks up and shows me the spinning beach ball with no end in sight.
Itunes seems to work generally well, but when listening to itunes radio, it'll get through about one song, but if I click the star to edit preferences (play more, don't play this), the song status bar stops and the app becomes unresponsive.
Messages will not open; "messages quit unexpectedly." Every attempt to reopen goes directly to the same message.
I have tried:
booting to recovery console/disk utility, all disks/partitions are good, don't need repair. Checked and fixed permissions.
I have deleted a couple cache/preference items suggested on another apple discussion, with no fix.
I tried time machine to go "back in time" (Marty!), but for some reason the last available backup was after the upgrade. There is one instance on the 21st of Oct, but it's purple and cannot be accessed. I chose the 25th and saw no difference.
I reinstalled Mavericks twice from recovery boot without deleting anything. No dice.
None of these problems existed before Mavericks. My wife's 2008 MacBook Aluminum Unibody is doing fine. Iwork seems good. Safari is good. I just created a new user account and will try that then report back. HELP!!!Notes log:

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable not working on MacBook Pro
only showed my background on my tv, didn't recognize actions though. I could see my desktop background but it didn't show what I was seeing on my laptop screen. Help? Do I need an adapter?
It's working perfectly. What you have is an extended desktop. If you move the mouse cursor off the edge of the MBP's screen you will see it appear on the TV. Similarly you can drag windows from the MBP's screen to the TV. At present the MBP's screen is the primary display and shows the menu bar and dock, and the TV is the secondary display. To change this go into System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangement. You will see an image of two screens, a smaller one representing the MBP's display and a larger one representing the external display. At the top of the smaller screen in the image is a bar, this represents the menu bar at the top of the screen. Drag it from the smaller screen to the larger screen. The external display will become the primary display and the menu bar and dock will appear there and any new windows or applications that you open subsequently will appear there too.

Mini Display port DVI adapter not working on Thunderbolt Port
For some time I've been using a mini display port to DVI adapter on an slightly older MBP to connect to my HD TV. I recently purchased a MBP with a Thunderbolt port and when I try to connect it to my TV via my mini-display-port-DVI adapter things are not working properly. The MBP is seeing the Philips TV but it isn't listing all the display modes and I'm not able to send any video to it. Does the Thunderbolt port require a new display port to DVI adapter?
Let me be clearer; I've got the MDP-DVI adapter connected to a cable that is DVI on one end and HDMI on the other. I've got both laptops so I can compare side by side. I plug in the MDP-DVI adapter to the old laptop and all works well; I plug it into the new laptop and while the laptop does see the TV, the display modes for it are all 1080p which is wrong I don't see any desktop image on the TV unlike when I plug it into the older laptop. This is very disappointing as I expect things to just work with Apple products.

Hi I have a recent macbook pro 12" (bought in april 2012) model number A1278. I'm trying to connect to a 23" apple cinema display (A1082) this currently is not working - i've bought an additional Apple MB570ZA Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - no luck!
im not sure what to do next - can anyone help?
im running OSX 10.7.4Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
Hope this helps.
Thanks. -
Mini display to hdmi adapter problem
Hi,
When I connected my mini display to hdmi adapter to hdmi, and hdmi cable to my ASUS PA238QR monitor, my early 2011 MBP 13" detects the monitor, but the monitor shows "hdmi no signal".
I tried unplugging everything, including the adapter and hdmi, but to no avail. I tried putting my computer to sleep, and waking it up, still, nothing seemed to be the cause of the problem.
I read through some old discussion on this issue, and nobody seems to have a solid solution besides purchasing another adapter.
I tried booting into win7 and still, the monitor shows "hdmi no signal".
I am 100% sure my monitor and hdmi works becuase when I used other laptops it's fine.
Thus, I'm suspecting it's the mini display to hdmi adapter's problem.
Is there a way I can make sure that my macbook pro is outputting the signal?
Any recommendation or advises are welcomed. Thanks for reading. If you've an HDMI port on your television, you could always try that.
I've used this adapter from Monoprice successfully - not bad for under $7.
Give your TV a try - if no go, then you'll know that it's an adapter problem.
Good luck,

Mini Display to HDMI adapter causing screen to go white/ gray
I recently purchased a mini display to hdmi adapter to hook my macbook pro up to my samsung led tv.
At first it worked great but after a few mins of inactivity both screens would go white or light gray and the macbook was totally unresponsive.
I pressed buttons, moved the mouse and nothing….I had to hard shut off and then restart the macbook to get the screens to come back up. I thought it might have been just a glitch but then it happened 2 more times all within the span of 2-3 hours. (keep in mind this is the first time ive ever used this adapter and have had no prior issues with my macbook)
I have no idea what could cause this type of issue.
Any suggestions or ideas on what could cause this? is it my settings or my computer?
I looked up the manual for my macbook online and my settings match what it says they should be… Im at a loss.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.* my connection is macbook pro - mini display to hdmi adapter - hdmi to hdmi cord - Samsung LED tv.

Apple Mini Display Port NOT working at resolutions over 1600X1200!
Problem:
Apple Mini Display Port does NOT work at resolutions over 1600X1200 on NON Apple Cinema Displays.
That means if you own any other brand of monitor such as NEC, Lacie, etc. you will NOT get native resolution on your 24 inch monitor as it is stuck at a maximum resolution of 1600X1200.
This story was mentioned on "Macbreak Weekly" show 4-14-2009. I have since checked with a few people and it would indeed seem to be true at this point.
I REALLY hope a solution from Apple comes soon and this is not some new policy of theirs. If so, it may be the last Mac Pro I will or can ever own. The reason is I do a lot of 3D work with C4D, Vue, Modo and Photoshop CS4 so I MUST have a monitor like the high-end ones from Lacie that have 100% color gamut and Adobe RGB. I can NOT be tied down to an Apple Cinema display due to that work. At this time, it seems this means I would only get 1600X1200 resolution on that 24 inch monitor.
Has anyone else confirmed this too and if so what the heck is Apple thinking or better still going to do about it? I LOVE my Mac Pro but if they start forcing displays on us then I won't be buying another Mac, it's just that simple. Thanks, but I think two things may be different in that setup.
1. If I understood correctly, it's a first gen without a "Mini Display Port" and
2. It was a laptop not a Mac Pro with a video card.
I think it has specifically to do with either one or both of the above combos. In particular I think it's the video card they are putting in them.
I am not sure if a new 2009 Apple laptop with a Mini Display Port connected to a NON Apple display would have an issue or work like yours does now. It would be interesting to get to the bottom of this for sure because it REALLY hurts people like myself that are into 3D design.
I will try to get back on this once I continue to find out more details. -
Is it possible to input itunes into DVI/HDCP input from imac with Apple mini display port? Or is there another way?
The problem with itunes is needing a computer running it. or continuous internet connection.
A Time Capsule is AC mains powered.. no battery. Although you can certainly buy an older Gen4 TC and modify it ...
https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/time-capsule-power-supply-repair-kits
I have run my TC on a 12V SLA battery.. which would neatly meet that part of the functionality you want. But it is heavy and not really the rugged sort of device I think you want.
But I would look at other media players and other ways of storing movies than iTunes.. if you want to carry the whole lot around with you .. A bunch of SD cards even you could plug into the ipad??
External storage for iPad?
A small cheap PC/Mac laptop with a 1TB hard disk in it.. and 11" or 13" screen.. can often be a much better solution than lugging around multiple items so you can fit Apple devices into your life. -
I cracked my screen. I want to use other monitor which I had one. I bought an Apple Mini-DP to VGA adapter. It worked. It means I can see ADDITIONAL screen. However I want to use this monitor for the main screen. How can I do?? Please help.
You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the monitor. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
