My Apple TV has flashing light during update

The Apple TV was working fine until I started the lastest update. It now has a flashing light on the front, and displays a blank screen on the TV. It will not Airplay either. I have not diconnectedd it, and have checked all the cables, that are connected and they are fine. Hpow can I get my Apple TV working again?

We just had this happen today, and we were able to fix it using the restart instructions:
Restarting your Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with an aluminum Apple Remote
Press and hold Menu and Down (buttons 3 and 4 below) on your aluminum Apple Remote for six seconds and then release when you see the LED light on the Apple TV flash rapidly.
Hope this helps!!

No, it does not. There are some apps which will turn the screen white so you can use that as a flashlight, but it does not have an LED camera flash.

  • How to kill flashing light during sleep

I have an ADC 23" display. The power light flashes when the computer is in sleep mode. Since the unit is now located in my bedroom, the surprisingly powerful flashing light forces me to shut down the mac, rather than using sleep mode. How can I kill the annoying light?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
    Welcome to the discussions.
There is no easy way to kill this flashing light. Might I suggest you make a black dust cover for the display. This will cover the light at night, and it's a good way to look after the monitor anyway.
Some people have used the easier option of taping over the light, or making a velcro patch, but these things may leave a mark on the monitor if removed.
Just make sure that any ventilation holes are not covered.
    Cheers!

  • HT200154 apple tv has no light

Hi, I've just bought the Apple TV 3rd generation and it worked until it asked me to do an update, now it simply won't switch on. There is no power light and I've tried connecting it to three different PC's and it is not recognised.  I've also checked the batteries in the remote and they are tested and working.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hello Andy.
I would try the article listed below.  The two sections I would follow would be "Restarting your Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with an aluminum Apple Remote" and 'Restarting your Apple TV without a remote".
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): How to restart your Apple TV

If the unit is able to power on and registers on your tv but is unresponsive after the first steps are processed, a restore might be needed.  Below is the article that helps your process this.

  • Apple tv 2nd generation stuck during update

my apple tv 2nd gen is moving at a snail's pace at step 1, still preparing update.  What do I do?

So long as it's still progressing, I'd be inclined to leave it alone, however if it is stuck and clearly no longer progressing.....
You can't do much else besides pull the plug. If it causes further problems you should be able to restore as below:
Get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
On the other hand you may be able to simply start the update again. If however the update continues to fail, you should try the restore routine above.

  • I have been receiving messages "your apple id has been disabled"

I have been receiving messages "your apple id has been disabled" while updating or purchasing apps on apple apps store.
Had followed the advice to reset / change apple Id password via Apple Id but problem still persists.
Had sent 2 mails within 48hrs to itune support store via "manage my account" but with no reply except an acknowledged email from itune support. BUT I replied on the acknowledgment email from itune even there is an disclaimer saying "please don't rely" on the acknowledgment email. After sending the mail, a person named "manjunath" replied as itune support centre staff, asking for verification before investigating the problem before enabling the apple id. he/she asked me to answer for some security such as billing address, last 4 digit of credit card no., last purchased apps and order no. The mail does not appeared to  be and official respond from apple itune store, very suspicious .
Has anyone encounter this kind of mail, wonder whether is authentic and could rally resolve the matter?
It seems that many apple id users have encounter the " your apple Id has been disabled" problem, many complained that there is no respond for itune support to rectify the problem.
It seems that the only way ton resolve the problem is to email to itune support and wait for them ton resolve the matter for you.
Any one Please help to enlighten me.

Yuor last statement sounds about right. Any emails from apple will include a [email protected] email address- unless you specifically are given someones contact information that may be responsible for handling your case. The questions they ask seem typical enough to verify your account but Id be careful when responding. Id chose rather to email itunes and let them specifically handle it, in their fashion, uyes slow but they do get the job done.

  • My apple TV has stopped working completely.  Just a flashing Amber light

My Apple TV has stopped working.  When it is turned on I just get a flashing amber light and it does not turn blue as normal.  It doesn't connect wirelessly to my Mac and it doesn't connect to the TV.  I do not get the setup menu and it is totally unresponsive to the remote control.  I have tried connecting it directly to my Mac but this also does nothing.  I am at a loss as to what to do next.  I have a lot of films and music stored on it and I am worried that I have lost it all.  I am not sure which generation it is, but it is the silver one, model number A1218.  Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, it sounds as though your Apple TV 1 has failed. Unlike the later Apple TVs, you cannot connect it to iTunes to restore it.

  • What does rapid flashing light on my Apple TV mean, and how do I fix it?

MMy Apple TV has always worked just fine.... No problems. Tonight, suddenly, the unit isn't working, and the front light on it is flashing quickly.... I can't get anything to work.... I tried to connect it to my computer to iTunes, but nothing comes up on the screen. The trouble shooting manual says to do this, then click on "Apple TV" in the source list...... But there is no source list listed..... Anywhere...... Ugh. . Help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your Apple TV fails to restore through iTunes……..
Check that you have correctly followed the instructions for your model of Apple TV.
If not already, try using a powered USB port.
Repeat the process but this time try connecting the cable while iTunes is closed.
Repeat the process with another cable.
Try restoring the Apple TV on another computer in another location.

    Hey Ali.M27,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with your iPhone during an iOS update. If your issues persist, you may need to restore your device in recovery mode:

  • HT1320 Ipod 4th gen was accidentally disconnected from laptop during update process. Now permanent screen pic is of power cord w/ an arrow pointing up to itunes. Holding the ctr & power buttons together has no effect for reset.

Ipod touch 4th gen was accidentally disconnected from laptop during update process. Now permanent screen pic is of the power cord w/ an arrow pointing up to itunes symbol. Holding the ctr & power buttons together for 6-10 sec causes apple pic to briefly appear and power cord/itunes pic reappears. Powering off and on has same effect. Attempting to reset.

It sounds like the iPod touch is in Recovery Mode, Try to restore it from iTunes again.
If you run into an error when restoring the iPhone again, take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: Resolving update and restore alert messages

  • HT202157 My AppleTV (2nd gen) crashed last night with the latest update and now all I have a flashing light.  What to do?

My AppleTV (2nd gen) crashed last night with the latest update and now all I have a flashing light.  What to do? It showed a USB symbol point toward an iTunes symbol and won't reset after resetting with the remote.  Same thing.

usb symbol pointing toward an itunes symbol is apples way of trying to get you to connect the appletv to your computer running itunes so it can restore the apple tv's software
though it seems to be a connection few people make
